you are still corrupt, the fact that you received it makes you corrupt. the fact that you didnt have them prosecuted makes you guilty.

West Africa pirate threat on rise
By Frank Gardner
BBC Security Correspondent

The BBC has been given revealing footage of a pirate attack off Nigeria

World attention on piracy off Somalia has diverted attention from the growing threat of attacks off west Africa, according to shipping experts.

The International Maritime Bureau says it knows of more than 100 pirate attacks off west Africa last year - yet only 40 were reported.

This is partly down to a reluctance by shipping companies to upset the local West African authorities, it says.

The latest attack happened when pirates shot at a tanker off Nigeria's coast.

Without warning, the pirates opened fire on the Greek-owned tanker, officials say.

The bullets hit the ship's accommodation area but the unarmed crew fought back with parachute flares and by hurling metal objects down at the pirates as they tried to board.

Amazingly, no-one was hit and the pirates eventually gave up.

While piracy off Somalia has been grabbing world attention and attracting regular patrols by major navies, attacks on the other side of the continent - in the Gulf of Guinea - risk being overlooked, officials say.

grin Yep, and we must keep it that way. grin

My prayer is that in the future, people can upload images, movies and documents implicating the criminals in government/power so that we can expose them. We need to start targeting corrupt politicians, police officers, NEPA officials, ministers, senators, governors and local government chairmen. I remain hopeful.
AMEN!

Who are these 'Nigerian YOUTHS' we speak of? That term ticks me off!!

God doesnt will such on people abeg and if he does he only did such because he expect us to work and get themselves out of such. instead we pray to him and wait for him to get us out, while we sit on our backsides, legs crossed and rolling our thumbs.

im not saying its bad. i support it but i stil dey vex. they should simultaneously educate the drivers so they know to slowdown or stop when these kids/pedestrians are in the zebra crossing. and not keep up the speed like the kids/pedestrians have a run me over sign on them.

u caution someone because he didnt slow down for pedestrians at a zebra crossing and he responds to you by saying. "na you papa draw am there" angry shocked

Govt begins transport education in schools

By Mudiaga Affe

Lagos State Government is to introduce transportation advocacy education in both primary and secondary schools in the state, a top official, Mr. Kayode Opeifa, has said.

The move, which is part of government's efforts to catch them young and make them change agents, will be carried out in public and private schools.

The programme will be inaugurated on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and it is to provide basic traffic knowledge to the children in order for them to develop a positive road user attitude and behavoiur.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Opeifa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, said the children would be engaged as change agents and vehicles of communicating traffic safety values to their parents and other adults.

He added that the programme would also inculcate traffic safety values and ideals in young citizens and create road safety awareness in them and potentially reduce their risks to road traffic accidents.

He said that a holistic approach of impacting traffic safety awareness through a four-pronged strategy had been adopted which included establishment of traffic safety clubs in schools, enhanced traffic safety zones, school bus drivers' safety training and annual road safety awareness programme.

According to him, registered members of the traffic safety clubs in the various schools will be designed as road safety ambassadors and will be exposed to traffic safety lessons as well as practical exercise, debates, quizzes and games.

He said, "The enhanced traffic safety zone will be accomplished through the installation of signage and traffic signs as well as traffic safety corners in the school playgrounds."

If the government is working Okada man will not act that way believe me.
I dont and wont believe you.

The Govt, can make law but they don't  enforce it. People litter the street even in the west but if they are caught they will be fined. Who catches them? not fellow street users but Govt agents(might be paid officers or Camera). Who will catch okada man when he acts nobody. So the govt failed to put in place what with check those acts thats why they take the blame.
its like u r telling us that, since government is not providing electricity you wont provide it for urself if u can.

not all laws are enforced before we adhere to them. sense, maturity, et all comes into play.

Nigerian problem is too complex that nobody knows where to start addressing it. If we can correct the citadel of justice first we might have a chance to correct other areas. Who will correct it will be the next question that comes to mind. Again we cannot achieve anything without UNITY. We have been skipping that for a long time, we all shout One Nigeria which we know within ourselves that such doesn't exist. If we can do things by merit and quota we might as well have a chance of meeting up with other countries like Rwanda(pathetic we are trying to be like Rwanda) again can we take the line of merit? not in the near future.
i agree with you here.

Since we cannot vote them in we cannot question them. Until our votes starts to count we haven't got a chance to move ahead.
this only would happen by making it count. majority of the people dont want to make it count.

@ BOSS

focus on the subject matter, not Abati.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the way we are doing things if we can't even seem to make progress given all our inherent advantages. Why can't we get things straight? The article posits that it is due to poor leadership - is that the problem?

Is poor leadership the reason why okada men in Lagos defecate by the roadside? Or is it the cause of so many people not paying tax?
I totally agree,

but i bet some would argue that its because the 'leadership' aka government didnt provide public bathrooms thats why they do their BS by the road side. they might even go further and argue that, even if there were public bathrooms. the people are too poor to afford to pay to use them. Nonsense! always giving excuses for everything they know should not be.

You have yet to define the WESTERN in democracy you continue to harp on about. I can go anywhere and make superfluous claims myself that WESTERN sugar will not do us all anygood. I will not make much sense until I explain what exactly WESTERN sugar is and why, compared to other kinds, it will not work.
"western democracy" reminds me of people who say "international passport" nollywood helped sow that seed in people as well the two phrases make me sick to me stomach.

TGIF to you all by the way.
