President @MBuhari regrets the recent unfortunate action of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives from the Lagos State Police Command, which led to the avoidable death of Mr. Kolade Johnson, and commiserates deeply with the family of the deceased.

The President acknowledges the genuine outrage regarding the activities of SARS and reassures the public that swift actions have already been taken.

Suspects are in custody and an orderly room trial is set to commence immediately, following which indicted officers will be prosecuted in court.

According to PMB, “Government will not tolerate in any way the brutalization of Nigerians or the violation of their rights. Any officer of the law enforcement agencies or any other govt functionary caught in this act will certainly be visited with the full weight of the law.”

Recall that following directives from the Presidency in 2018 to overhaul the management and activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, steps were taken by the @Policeng leadership to restructure and reform SARS.

The President recognizes that a lot more remains to be done and this effort must be sustained.

He reassures that this administration will continue to ensure that all officers in the Police and other law enforcement agencies conduct their operations in strict adherence to the rule of law and with due regard to International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.

President Buhari is currently meeting with Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha behind closed doors.

The meeting is holding in the president’s office at the State House presidential villa, Abuja as Okorocha, who is the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors forum, is currently under suspension by the governing party.

He fell out with the leadership of the APC after the party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, accused him of trying to impose his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, as his successor. Also, Okorocha, who ran and won a seat as the senator representing Imo West under the APC, is yet to receive his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The electoral body said the returning officer for the election declared Mr Okorocha winner under duress.

President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Abuja on Monday for Dakar, Senegal to attend the inauguration of Senegalese President, Macky Sall, following his re-election for a second term.

Mr. Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, who confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said the President’s trip followed an invitation from his host.

According to the statement, President Buhari, who is ECOWAS Chairman, will be Special Guest of Honour at the ceremonies, to be attended by other African leaders at the Diamniadio Exhibition Centre on Tuesday.

It stated that the Nigerian leader would be accompanied by Governors Mohammed Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai and Tanko Al-Makura of Bauchi, Kaduna and Nasarawa states respectively.

Others on the Presidential entourage include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama; National Security Adviser, Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd); Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai, and other top government officials.

“The President is expected back in the country at the end of the inauguration ceremonies,” the statement said.

Senator Ben Bruce has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to turn his eyes towards education and not just remain focused on anti-corruption.

The lawmaker representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District in the National Assembly made this assertion via Twitter on Sunday, March 31.

Ben Bruce argued that those who open the doors of schools shut the gates of prisons.

He said, “Dear President @MBuhari, Invest in education, not just in anti-corruption.

“Instead of throwing people in jail, remember that he who opens the doors of a school closes the doors of prisons.

“It is sad that you have built not ONE school. Not even one. Yet you want crime to end?.”

Senator Bruce also spoke on behalf of kids who leave school to get a job and the growing rate of unemployment in the country.

Two weeks after his defeat at the polls, the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council PDP candidate for the Feb. 23 House of Representatives election, Engr. Abdulsalam Mustapha Kachalla, has decamped to the APC.

Engr. Kachalla announced his decamping to journalists on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

“My decision to join the APC is largely informed by the credible leadership demonstrated by President Muhammadu Buhari and Borno Governor Kashim Shettima; and for my former lecturer, Prof Babagana Umara, who is now the governor-elect.

He said he joined APC in the interest of his people and future generations, adding that the “state cannot afford to be in the opposition any longer given the bitter experience of gross underdevelopment and total neglect it suffered between 1999 and 2015 when the PDP controlled the Federal Government.”
