Enugu, community in fresh showdown over centenary city project By From Lawrence Njoku, Enugu | 13 March 2017 | 4:20 am Map of the Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City The long-simmering distrust between Enugu State Government and Amechi – Uwani community in Enugu South local government council over marginalisation claims appear set to threaten multi-billion naira Centenary City project, following fresh demand by the landowners for the return of their land and restraining of the private developer. The massive and ambitious project, the Enugu Centenary City (Enugu Lifestyle & Golf City, ELGC), a partnership project between the State government and a South African Company- Private Estates International Limited began in 2009, after the Sullivan Chime administration issued the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) to the firm to develop a modern city. Designed around the style and comforts offered by the most advanced cities whilst retaining broad African influences, Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City according to the promoters, will be the best place in Nigeria to live, work, learn, play and shop. It is set on 1,097 hectares of lush green savannah with the Udi Hills as a picturesque backdrop. The residential plots present breathtaking views of the golf course, lakes and reserved green areas. Irrespective of the plot size (ranging from 300m² – 3,000m²), the city promises to deliver a lifestyle of luxury, serenity and security. The price for each plot depends on the community and plot size and goes for N16, 000 per square meter or 14,000 per square meter depending on the plot type. ELGC development coincides with the 100 years anniversary of the creation and existence of Enugu city. Currently, the proposed amenities include shopping malls, institutions, and offices, playgrounds that would make it distinct. Last week, placard- carrying members of the Amechi Uwani community numbering over 2, 000 staged a peaceful protest in the area, asking the developers to quit and state government to return their land over alleged insensitivity on the part of the developer. Some of the placards read: “Agbana centenary city is not for sale”, “Government don’t acquire land to sale, they acquire for public interest”, you cannot take our land and turn round to sale it N15million per plot”, where will our children live if you sale this land?” Give us back our land as it is no more for ESUT”, among others. Led by their traditional Prime Minister, Chief Micheal Oguejiofor Okenwa, they said the land was forcefully taken away from them without negotiation or compensation on the guise of overriding public interest. “We went to court against Enugu State government and the private developers and our suit No/E/416/2012 has been pending at the Enugu State High Court. More than a year ago, the defendants told the court that they wanted out of court settlement and requested time. We agreed but the defendants failed to initiate any negotiation since then. Efforts to get the state government’s reaction proved abortive. But the company said they acquired the land through the Enugu state government in 2009, after they convinced government of their determination to have modern city project. The company’s Project Manager, Chamberlin Mbachu called on the state government to resolved the issues as it was already creating a negative impact on the project. https://guardian.ng/property/enugu-community-in-fresh-showdown-over-centenary-city-project/ |

nonsobaba: O be real. We both know that wawa are the filthiest of igbos. The parts of Onitsha that are affected by that report are areas populated by wawa people (okpoko and fegge). Also, the air pollution in onitsha is caused by the ubiquitious wawa okada riders. That is why Obiano has proposed to ban okada riding in Onitsha and Awka immediately he resumes his second term.
The report proves that Onitsha is already a global city that just requires the weeding of the aforementioned Wawa nuisances to make it more attractive. You can even see Karachi, Pakistan's biggest city, sitting close to Onitsha on that report. I didn't see Enugu there even though it hosts Obiagu, the biggest slum settlement in Igboland.
BTW, Enugu has igbotic roads. Go to akwa-ibom to know what road construction is all about. Lol, anambra's peanut IGR comes from Okada since no serious cooporated investor goes to the filthy state, that is why any ban on okada will spell doom and they won't be able to construct the china roads they are managing to construct,. Onitsha is a gloabal city in in pollution and filth, Enugu is not your mate. we will soon apply fashola's law and dump your filthy as.s in your upper iweka jungle before you bring your life of filth into this lovely state

Politics › Re: Photos: Newly Constructed Roads In Aba by MXrep: 9:38am On Apr 23, 2017 |
Rosskii: Something else that needs to be realised is that not building sidewalks has economic costs in the long run. It kills tourism and commerce, and leads to ill health.
Tourism because tourists do not want to come out of their hotels and be jumping gutters, and walking through sand and weeds, so they decide NOT to visit your country at all. Commerce is ruined because the public are discouraged from doing window shopping, with the impulsive buying that comes with that. This amounts to countless billions in lost revenue for businesses and taxes to govt across the country. Health is affected because the human proximity to putrid, open gutters, must take a negative toll.
We must do better. shut up my friend, Street in Sagamu can't even get ordinary taring

Sidewalks are not meant for just ''major roads''!!!! How many do you have in Ile-Ife and Owo |
Politics › Re: Photos: Newly Constructed Roads In Aba by MXrep: 9:30am On Apr 23, 2017 |
Rosskii: Dude, stop this nonsense. It doesn't matter if it's a city of 20 million, or a town of 5,000 people. Whenever you build a road in an urban or residential area, you MUST build pedestrian sidewalks alongside the road. This is the way it is done all over the world. Motorists do not have superior rights to pedestrians. Roads are meant to cater for BOTH motorists AND pedestrians. We need to rid ourselves of the mentality that sidewalks are some sort of luxury. They are not. They are an essential part of urban infrastructure in any society. How many do you have in Ogbomoso and Sagamu?? |

Rosskii: SHUT UP.... I'VE BEEN IN CONSTRUCTION SINCE BEFORE YOU WERE BORN. THERE IS NO PROVISION FOR SIDEWALKS ON THOSE ROADS, UNLESS THEY PLAN TO DEMOLISH THE ADJOINING HOUSES, WHICH THEY DON'T. SECONDLY, SIDEWALKS ARE BUILT SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH THE MAIN ROAD, NOT ''AFTER'' THE ROAD IS BUILT, IN ORDER TO KEEP COSTS DOWN. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY NO PROVISION FOR SIDEWALKS HERE.. These are innermost inner streets, stop comparing it with major roads. Major roads reconstructed in aba came with covered drainage and sidewalk

Abuja was not the only functional airport, if we shut down this port for repairs how are we going to cope?? Before Abuja was repaired, Kaduna airport was upgraded to do exactly the type of job Abuja airport was doing, so you should advocate that Calabar port to be upgraded to Lagos standard, cargo diverted to Calarbar, then Lagos repaired |
