Duude,

Cut down on the images yo. I am on broadband, but I gotta confess, when I saw all those squares on the screen denoting images, I immediately left. I can only imagine how long it would have taken if I had a 56K modem.

Cut down on images and let me know, and perhaps I will go visit again. I promise to give you constructive criticism cheesy

TravelRe: Is Life Really Better Abroad? by my2cents(m): 5:44am On Apr 01, 2006
Having been abroad (by which I assume you mean obodo oyibo) for 10+ years, I think I can say with full confidence that life is better abroad in terms of the opportunities it presents us to succeed. Success itself is not guaranteed, but the opportunity to succeed is. As Tony Blair once said, how good a country is can be observed by how many are trying to leave, as opposed to how many are trying to enter. Based on that alone, abroad is better. If not, I challenge you to go to the US embassy at 4am on any weekday. If you no see at least 100 people for dia, make I naked baf for bafroom LOL

Home life is only better, IMHO, in terms of morals. As far as money is concerned, even working for $5 an hour is better than home. For one, even if you work for 5 minutes, you will get paid for it.

FashionRe: Where Do You Buy Your Clothes? by my2cents(m): 5:38am On Apr 01, 2006
The same clothes una dey buy for brand name store, na im I dey buy for Outlet mall, at 1/2 price!! In the end, it covers my unclothedness. If you are in the Georgia area, take a trip to North Georgia Premium Outlet. When man wan go naija, na so im go go there to buy Nike T-shirts at $3 a piece. That way, 10 shirts don cover family. Jos A Banks business casual shirts, $20 a pop.

I am not a playa-hata wink Nothing wrong in wearing the best. For me, man don suffer for dis obodo oyibo o, so before I spend $1, na congress go approve LOL

LiteratureRe: Which Books/Novels Are You Currently Reading? by my2cents(m): 5:34am On Apr 01, 2006
I am currently reading "The Art of War". Man, after 50% reading, I ask myself whether "the powers that be" read this book before going to war. Some of the things Sun Tzu warned against were definitely not heeded by the generals at all.

It's a good read. Previous books I have read in recent months are: 20 Immutable laws of branding, The Fair Tax plan, Copy This, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and My life (Bill Clinton). As you can see, I am not that much into fiction grin

CareerRe: How Much Money Must You Make Before Returning To Nigeria? by my2cents(m): 5:29am On Apr 01, 2006
to me, it's more like how much money I have in the bank. Based on calculations, for me, it would be at least $200,000 cool

For the sake of argument, I will say this though - how much money I must make is kind of like asking how much a human life is worth, priceless. But if I were asked at gunpoint, anything less than N20,000,000 wouldn't even tickle my fancy. I need to be at least half as comfortable as I am here.

CareerRe: Nigerians Studying Abroad: Would You Go Back Home To Work? by my2cents(m): 4:55am On Apr 01, 2006
Sure, there are many good companies back home which pay good money. Check out my boy's company, located in Calabar of all places: http://www.kapstoneng.com . Flash developer, I believe, is making N3.5million. That is a lot of money in Naira for people back there o!

If I ever had the opportunity, I would rather run my own business, rather than work for anyone. Why deal with potential non-payment of salary? The stress for kill me o! Perhaps, if they paid me at least as much as I make in the states, plus housing and car allowance (to mention but a few grin), I for think about am.

Even if I were tempted to move back, I would still have to think about 419, lack of security, basic infrastructure, etc. I love my country, but let's get real - if I am paid N10million a year, yet every time I want to make a phone call, I have to set my head a certain way and stand in a certain place so as to get signal, is it worth it? Is it worth sleeping like a cat due to fear of being robbed? The answers are not as easy as you may think, even for me.

In summary, IMHO, moving back to Nigeria to work is like a mosquito you see perched on the wall - it is easy to kill abi? Now, suppose that same mosquito perched on your scrotum, would it still be that easy to kill?

Hey guys,

I just joined Nairaland. I have been browsing the site from time to time and spreading the news about it as well. I have chosen to be an observer until now. The dialogue, for the most part is constructive too. In general, I am happy that such a site exists for the advancement of IT skills amongst Nigerians in Nigeria and the diaspora.

I am more of a web architect than designer/developer. My goal is to start a business in Nigeria where I offer advice on SEO, web standards, website design/redesign, architecture, etc. I do, however, create websites on the side. One of such is http://www.southsouthforum.org . Nope, I am not advertising for them grin. This is a site run by folks in the US for the sole purpose of promoting a candidate from the south-south region. Other than the header and a few photos, it's all CSS and readable on screen, PDA and is printer-friendly as well. I have another site: www.geocities.com/myibibio , my pet project devoted to preserving the Ibibio culture in the diaspora.

Patriotic comrades!! Do check out these 2 sites and provide constructive feedback. They have been live for at least 6 months and do well on the search engines. They have also been viewed by folks in pretty much every single continent, except antartica (so I must be doing something right wink).

Anyway, I am just proud to finally be a registered member of this site. I look forward to reading/responding to your posts.

May we all succeed in our respective endaveours in Jesus name - Amen!!
