We have the ND univ, one of the 12 new federal universities he created. What he did was the right thing instead of the narrow and scrawny regional mind set that Nigerians have now come to exalt. We have a ND university in Bayelsa and we also have a new federal university in Katsina. That is the sign of a mind that has transcended scrawny regional politics and approach to development.

When it comes to actually taking full advantage of a ND presidency, it was the ND that messed up and not GEJ. GEJ is suppossed to be a president for all Nigerians. The region was supposed to come together, decide their roadmap/blueprint and present it to the centre, which will then support - with a bureaucratic backing and a certain percentage of equity

Instead of this scenario, what did we have? We had Amaechi who made himself an enemy of GEJ by his actions, and Delta state, which was in the opposition. With the foolishness of Amaechi, the two states that should at least have had a united front (Bayelsa and Rivers) could not politically unite to present a common front.

When it comes to development the truth is that the centre is not supposed to declare unilaterally what the regions need even if it thinks it knows. The regions are supposed to be the major drivers in coming to the final decision about the things they need and the priority that should be attached to each one

In conclusion, GEJ did well across Nigeria
1). 12 new universities,
2). almajiri schools,
3). Youwin which I know at least one beneficiary of,
4). fed govt scholarships,
5). the completion of the oil and gas polytechnic in Bonny,
6). the Agric sector,
7). building more roads than any other govt had built - according to Fashola,
. improving power generation inspite of gas line sabotage which he complained about and had the say he was giving excuses,
9). attracted foreign investment,
10). saw the economy expand with GDP of over $500bn, less than 10% of which came from oil
11). implemented the local content bill which forced the oil companies to award a specified percentage of the contracts to Nigerian indegenous firms. The amount of Nigerian oil servicing companies that have grown on account of just this one move is great. The amount of revenue they have earned is worth being thankful to all those who had a hand in seeing it through.
12). he also listened to the call of the people and created a conference where the elders and best minds from all across Nigeria were able to voice all their inner lingering concerns, with a view to making recommendations that will make the country live more prosperously and in greater peace, harmony and unity.

Please not that many of these things do not just favour one region but can and will be felt across every region of Nigeria. That is what a Nigerian president should be. Someone with the skill, someone with the ability to carry every region and every ethnic group in this big ship called Nigeria, along
