Yea, I don't need to argue with you because you haven't even ripe to get one, how would you know how it works? You only hear people saying it. I see reason why aroy1 is always on your neck here, it's because you don't cut your coat to suite your size. My emphasis is that ADEBYTE's advise to the HELEN is possible, I'm doing it here.

@djunit1,

The general statistics part of your statement were all Pure Bullshiit. Does living expenses and school fee same from state to state that one can't survive with GA? I got my GA position right from Nigeria since last year June and I have already knew how the allowance will go. Out of the allowance, 70% goes for dorms of which food plan is included, 30% goes for my school fee, though this doesn't completely solve my school fee because I have few of it to pay, I don't need ride to class because I only need to walk less than 3 mins to class. Therefore, getting GA in affordable schools and states can solve most school fee problems. I just walked to the student account office and told them I want my allowance going towards my tuition and I was told I'm good and clearance was placed on my student ID card. So ask me, if I have paid all my school fee. ADEBYTE, explanation is proven right in this country. This is US, many Americans don't buy cloths for fashion like in Nigeria, most times they get cloths good enough to shed the cold wind. Ask most of them to remove those jackets, all you see is T-Shirt not even polo shirt, how much is T-Shirts in Nigeria?
hey my friend imperiouxx, been long you know.

Hey House, I'm quite impressed with what I have read so far,
I'm a Nigerian doing grad studies in the States and its usually difficult trading full time but I think I could use some help scalping the market even if that means depriving myself of sleep here esp during the London Market (My time zone is GMT-6, so you guys are ahead by 5hrs or so).

GboyegaD:

it is a wonderful thing beign here in the US however, their lifestyle is totally different. Unlike our communal lifestyle where you want to know who your neighbour is and the likes here, you are on your own.
The best we can do is to encourage as many that we know who would want to come study abroad to do so because it is a wonderful experience and there are facilities to aid your studies.
My friend GboyegaD is right.

Its ok folks. Lets not fight over trivial stuffs. We are all "right".
When I made my post, I said "no quarrel meant", so why the fight?
Lets continue to give advice on VISA enquiries and encourage more serious focused and hard-working Nigerians with passion to change Nigeria some there to come over to the States. I'm yet to come to terms with the fact that I am the only African in my program and probably just the whole College of Engineering (just 12 graduate students admitted into my graduate program) and 1 of just 3 Africans at the Intl Students Orientation (it was Asians and Indians by my right and left and all over the place); that goes to show the disparity in development between Nigeria and other Asian countries.
Check out happyschoolblog dot com and see how Indians are encouraging themselves;

If you consider the job market and economic situation plus the bills and constant tax you'd ve to pay here, then life could be termed "tough and horrible"; Its not completely a "Bed of Rose". My friend told me not "to always try to calculate the naira value of everything I buy here cos I would end up not buying anything at all", so financially, its pretty tough but not for people whose finances are consistently been pumped from back home or have some legal money-generating ventures they are involved in.
You'd be very frustrated if you come here to hustle, so its vital to be financially buoyant and prudent but pls and pls dont use the word "battle" cos it makes it sound like there is something else to it, something quite disheartening if not completely discouraging.

My advice for anyone coming here on a low budget (poor folks), try hitting a very high score on your GRE/GMAT/SAT to increase your chances for funding (instate fees/scholarship/TA/RA) or betterstill, apply to schools in State like Texas that offer in-state tuition fees to intl students which gives you the eligibility to pay all fees like an american,
and the remaining semesters' fees could be waived if you perform absolutely well (like = > 3.6/4.0 in your first semester).
I cant believe the very low school fee plus health insurance that was taken from me cos of instate tuition scholarship, yet my profs are already offering me RA/TA positions which could take off my living expenses and bills. Dont know about what you guys are going through in OBAMALAND but I'm enjoying life here (not the many pleasurable distractions which could easily derail a serious student)

My friend in PennState U doing same program as me is complaining of how he would pay his over $25k school fees (no living expenses) when my school took just a little over 1/5th of that amount and guess what, my school is in oil industry capital state (Texas) and ranks 7th in US News Petroleum engineering school ranking; so newbies, be very careful on your choice of school.

abeg once again, make we nor quarrel oh.
na VISA advice na femilangy create this thread for.

nethacker:

I hope all those dat got their visas r really prepared for the nxt battle ahead? wink
USBound:

@Nethacker: what's the next battle?
@nethacker, abeg tell the House the battle! as if nor be sweat battle, atleast compared to the 7yrs (5yrs engr+2yrs nysc) we suffered studying CRAP in 9ja.
Abeg nor dey use match-stick fire scare people wey don see hell-fire before, yet excelled distinctively. lol
I hate it when u guys in obamaland try to subtlety discourage people aspiring to come to OBAMALAND- A LAND OF OPPORTUNITY INDEED IF YOU ARE FOCUSED AND HAVE YOUR FINANCES STRAIGHTENED OUT.
Abeg oh, No querrel meant!

@biikey and other Tx mates, let me and Gboyega know where in Tx you reside so we can have a great time during Thanksgiving or xmas or anytime bro.
@my friend Gboyega, hope u don get ur ticket, you get my number now abi? halla me when you land for Houston or DFW Intl airport.

@all, Forget all the rubbish they (9irians in USA) post about life in the States cos Life is extremely sweat and convenient here (I wonder how I have suffered lived in Nigeria all these years?, I am imagining how much talents must ve gone down the drain or th the grave in Nigeria! wink sad sad Gosh! shocked shocked), although, be good with your finance and have a focused mind.
For all prospective VISA/GRE/GMAT/SAT Applicant, if only you can have a taste of life here for some minutes, you wont joke with your VISA/GRE/GMAT/SAT Prep!

@my friend Physicall, I'm really happy for you, congrats and welcome on board.
Please how long after making your payment for emirates airline does it take them to issue one an e-ticket? I ask cos I got a mail yesterday saying they ve received my payment from Zenith Bank and they were asking why I booked a 1-way flight and I replied them that I'm a F1 Visa Holder, and even attached a scanned copy of my VISA but I'm yet to hear from them 2day.

they were most def doing their jobs. everyone does their job, but there is nothing wrong with being nice about it.

anyway, my attention is not the VO's, its the students, cos most of us are actually not redy, and seriously dont deserve the visa. Just prepare yourself properly, cos its like going for an exam. you never know what will be asked so you have to read properly and widely, then depend on the favour of God.
selah.

Pls, does anyone know how to track their passports online, cos i need to leave lagos asap
. plus the guy also kept my I-20 and sevis reciept. hope that is normal

I dont think the trackingMYPassport link doesnt works anymore, You should just go to the Pick Up/collection centre the next evening say 2-3pm and you'd surely get it. At that time, (3pm and beyond) you shud ve received an email asking you to come pick up your VISA but dont wait to receive the email cos if you do and end up goin there late (4pm), they would be closed. Congrats again.
Same goes for my friend Abats4niaja, I'm sure you ve already started booking your ticket and packing your luggage.

I propose that we successful VISA Fall students connect and share our contacts as we plan and yankee together, Life in yankee would be better for us all of we network like our predecessors femilangy, nethacker and co did. Shoot me a mail (da.ghost63 at yahoo dot com) and when we are over there and ve changed our email ad and fone contact, we can then connect again and update our contacts. Counting down to my exit from Nigeria. Few days more and excited.

@House, It's cheaper to book your flight directly with airlines flying to USA and early too. Mine just totaled Naira 182 000 one way to Louisiana. I booked the local flight from JFK to Alexandria over the phone with my GTB MasterCard and it worked perfectly only i was told to show the card at airport checking. Delta airline.

I beat the cost by first booking emirates to JFK for 151 k Naira and then search all airlines to Louisiana and next available flight with 3 - 24 hours departure from New York to my time of arrival at JFK and also cheap. then got one closest match and worked fine.Got my e-ticket almost immediately and the $ equivalent deducted from my saving account attached to my GTB Naira MasterCard.   All fares came to 182k. Cheaper than booking all at once with any airline from Nigeria.

Wow fris, thats quite totful of you. Since I'm yet to pay for my emirate booking direct to dallas, I think I should look in your direction. Can you shoot me a mail (da.ghost63 at yahoo dot com) or betterstill gimme a ring on 08181649331 as I may need you to ease up the process for me. Thanks
