@HOUSE: I have some advice. Reading through this thread, I think it pays to SELL YOURSELF at these Interviews. It pays. I figure these people (V.O.) at the embassy also want to know apart from 1. you will come back and 2. that you can finance your study. They also want to know that you will be an ASSET not a LIABILITY to their country and economy. That is why Ivy-league admitted applicants always get the Visa. But you don't need to be ivy-league. I have noticed that things like 'i got a SCHOLARSHIP' even when it's partial not full also scores with them. Then, AWARDS. Also travel experience, high intelligence, articulation and such. Anything that makes you an ASSET grabs their attention. Because if we look at it carefully, the US is the biggest thief-nation in the world stealing the brightest and the best from all nations to enrich themselves. They are looking for an ASSET in us. So, please when you respond to their questions, sneak in brief evidence of your being an asset. I have read several posted interviews where the girl or guy should not have gotten the visa but because they sold themselves as ASSETS along the line, the got it. Please sell yourself, your course, your school and your country. I believe it helps. And please, the most important factor in getting this thing remains GOD and His favor. God will help us.
@bolded, very true.
I had a scholarship from the school which allows me to pay instate tuition and fees.

@HOUSE: SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES PLEASE POST YOUR INTERVIEWS SO WE CAN LEARN O. aBEG.
Thanks to my friend Shavel for informing the House.

@House, I am back with the good news of my victory in details. Sorry for the delay as I have been trying to inquire the best flight ticket (cheap, yet quality 1-way route flight to TX) to book. Need assistance from previous successful nlders currently in the State.

Lemme start from the difficulty experienced in choosing SERVIS Fee Payment option- 1)I didn't wanna travel all the way to Lagos from my state and then to Seme border to experience all the hassles and problems nlders ve been faced with, so I ruled that option out. 2) I have a domiciliary account with Diamond Bank so I thought of using a foreign bank draft but the branch was not very sure about the process, so I was left with just one option - 3)Holla @friends in the States to make the payment. After effecting the bank wire transfer to him, He finally made the payment via WUQP on Friday 5, july, so I was checking the SERVIS site like every 30mins to confirm if my payment have been received as @Tue or few hrs to my appointment.

I learnt from a ndler's post and All my docs were arranged into Immigration (Passport,I-20,Appointment letter etc),  Education (BSc, Official Transcript in the school's envelope, Award Letters( I finished the best grad student of my class), GRE, TOEFL, etc) and Finance (Affidavit of Sponsor from a High Court, sponsor's bank Cover Letter and Statement spanning last 6months showing bal. like N8-9m), except the SERVIS fee receipt which made me check the site every 30mins. (Pls pay very early oh, ). It finally reflected by 10:17pm abj time and na printer wan com be wahala (finally printed it sha) and I decided to relieve myself of the unneccessary tension by watching a nice film like 21.
By 12:04am, I carried my 2-page "Visa Likely Q&A" Prep paper, go tru some of the areas I nor dey fluently flow  well; put alarm for 4:15AM.
By 12:28am, na kabash(prayer) and sleep get am cos my destiny is to be decided in few hours time by one officer (God forbid say make d person be d chinko!). ABEG ABUJA APPLICANTS, AVOID THIS LADY BY ALL COST BY GOIN TO THE REST ROOM, NO MATTER HOW COMPLETE YOUR DOCS ARE OR/AND HOW CONFIDENT YOU FINK YOU ARE

Too much Ac woke me up like 4:07, I enta bathroom dey kabash mostly in tongues (lol) till like 4:52AM, I baf sharply, waka comot for bathroom dey sing praise for already gotten Victory. (Trust me, confidence full my body anyhow, after my spirit don charge wella or abi na afta all the tips this great thread don give me). I recall I halla on top my voice "nothin dey stop me jare, !".

I reach embassy by 6:03am as number 5 person or so. Sat down close to someone who asked me if I know nl, I answered yes and to my shock, na cleverdude i dey yan with! See shaking and hugging nah, (lol). We waited till like 8:15 or so, see rush when d security say "queue up", oboy yea (no dolling oh, me and cleverdude grab 4th and 6th place on the line).

Make I fast track go  interview proper: after all security and biometric checks, we sat and it was next, next, next, Chinko dey counter 6 dey deny family and individual anyhow (all her interview dey take up to 15-35mins, u go fear fear), counter 9 dizzyfrenzy told us nor dey, so we try observe who dey give visa anyhow make We pray to get that person. We observed say na counter 8 (fine man) and 7 (sweet lady) we pray to get.

Next! Next!! Next!!! Before I know it, e won reach my turn oh, As my heart wan cut, I enta rest room sharp sharp do some kabashing in tongues again(lol). As I show like dis, na only 1 sweet family dey immediately before me; they finally meet the sweet guy(window cool; I just dey pray inside so the Chinko go still dey querrel interview with one govt official applicant so the sweet lady fit halla next for me. Finally, God answer my prayer as the sweet lady say next, e nor reach 3sec afta I hear "Next" from sweet lady (counter 7) before the Chinko dey deny that big man. Wetin concern me jor, I focus on the sweet smile and face in front of me so my 2-3mins 4-question interview went like this:

Me and the VO: Good Morning (I nor know who greet first agn)

VO: Can you pass your Passport and Applications over? (pointing at my hand containing docs like 1-20,Passport and confirmation page from the biometrics person)
Me: I pass the docs sharply.

VO: Can you pass your certificates, transcripts, score sheets and financial docs pls?
Me: I pass everything as I arrange them above.

VO: extracting data from my I-20 or Confirmation page and Typing on her pc; then was perusing through my education docs first (I interrupted her to explain that the "Award Letter" located beneath my BEng Cert. was given because I finished as the best grad student of my class), she read through it, smiling and saying "Congratulations".
Me: Thank you

VO: Why did you wanna do a graduate degree in petroleum engineering?
Me: I gather boldness and started explaining with confidence: " There are lots of opportunities in the Nigerian Oil & Gas Industry and these opportunities are bound to increase with the signing and passing into law of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) presently at the Senate; Its very paramount to acquire the required expertise via a graduate studies at Bleep University which would strategically position me to take advantage of these opportunities when I return to Nigeria"  She was just smiling, my belle full with joy for my composure, confidence and answer.

VO: Who's your sponsor?
ME: My Father

VO: (opened the transcript envelope and was going thru my courses from yr1 to end); she then asked "What is Differential Equation"?
ME: I was shocked, then built my momentum again to refire a confident reply to the best of my knowledge at that point in time "Differential Equation is an equation relating the change in one parameter/variable due to a change in another, more explaining till she start to give me that sweet smile again"

VO: Flipping to yr-2 course page or so in my transcript, she asked: "What is Fluid Mechanics?"
ME: I scatter the answer for her, describing forces and energy losses associated with fluid flow process in pipes, conduit, restrictions, " She interrupted me smiling again saying "I studied Fluid Mechanics and you are very correct with your explanation, you are truly intelligent. bla bla bla",

Then, suddenly she turned sideway to the cupboard to get a red/pink card and a white paper, giving me my docs without the passport and saying "Pick your visa Friday Morning at this address and make sure you go to the USA with your I-20 so you wont ve any probs, I nor care wetin she dey yan again as overflowing joy don full my belle"

See me see yankee education, Dreams can really come to pass.

Thanks to my friend dizzyfrenzy for the demo interview I had with him as It made me put finishing touches to a few of my prepped answers and to all nlders for your tips, ideas, encouragement, prayers and wishes. The God who did this for me and other nlders would do this for you all. There is no way you wud go through this whole thread or even half of it that you mentality and confidence wont improve. I took time to study it from page 1 to end and I guess it paid off big time.

So for those of you asking and worrying if you would be asked academic questions, I think this is only done in Abj as my friend dizzy pointed out and its based on what course you are goin for or what courses you did on your transcript. So science/engr students shud expect sci/math questions and management questions for management students!

Get your docs right and well arranged, be confident when replying any question (I guess the way I distracted her with my Award Letter and how I answered the 1st question made all the difference that she didnt bother asking "What are your plans after grad" and "Why this sch? or how many schs did you apply to?" and always, pray for God's grace!

For many of you worrying about financial docs, the VOs ve many applicants so they hardly check out details of all documents (e.g say ur Father is the sponsor if the surname is thesame, they wont question you if the person is truly your Dad or not or "why is your uncle/cousin sponsoring u?" as no time for all that".

You can either reach me, dizzyfrenzy or any willing successful ndler for help on docs requirement/arrangement and maybe a demo interview so we can perfect your prep and give you more confidence. I can be reached on my YIM or gimme a ring on 08181649331. Just wanna help but Dont Flash pls.

Thanks House for your patience with me but most importantly for your help, tips, encouragement and prayers. Let us know who's next so we can put you in our prayers.

@ Previous successful ndlers, Which Airline would you recommend for my trip to TX in 1st week of Aug? and how do I go about the booking? cost and quality service is my concern,
Your answers are needed urgently

My International Student Office informed me that my I20 would not be sent out until 7days time. I wonder when I will get it to enable me apply. I may have to send a mail and do the expedite Visa Option or what do you people suggest?
Mail them to get you a scanned copy of your I-20 or betterstill, just your SERVIS Number- thats all you need to fill your DS-160 and to book your appointment. You shud get a date in early Aug- only do emergency booking if you cant find any date before your school's resumption.
I am not very sure you'd get a June/July/early Aug date as dates are filling up fast. so be proactive my friend.

Hello y'all, been reading posts from here and it's been awesome. I have also had the discretion to separate facts from scums being said here. Overall, I think this site is very helpful. I am a potential fall applicant also. I would like to chip just something very lil'-no offence to any one. Please, when we pass info, let us be accurate with it. I have seen a lot of people pass the wrong information here. I am privileged to always be online and I get a lot info from the internet too (Thank God for internet and google). Often, people ask questions here that they could easily find for themselves on the US embassy website.
@ syndikate in particular, it says that a visa can be issued to a student at least 120 days to resumption. Furthermore, you can only enter the USA only at leas tas from 30 days to yr resumption. I will advise that You have your i20 nos sent to you by email (the nos I said) cos I have also not received mine, but so as to book a date early, I had the school email me the nos while the hard copy was posted last fri. I booked my date last fri and for abuja, the earlies date I got was august 8 . Pls, I would advise you to book ASAP before the dates all get filled. aight?
ALL the best y'all and again, lets verify info before we post them here. You can't be issued a Visa 6 months to resumption. Only 120days(4months) to resumption

JESUS CHRIST! Never knew dates wud fill up so fast, now August. Na wa oh. I guess it wud be emergency dates for the remaining Fall 2011 applicants.
Who's next to go get his/her Visa? lets know, encourage and pray for you,

@myforumid,
is been a while. Saw your post abt leaving for the visa section, congrates man.

Hmm, abt doin great in d gre, well my quant was nothing to write home abt. Anyway my scores,

verbal- 610
quant- 710. Took it abt 6 days ago.

Man, i don't knw wat to do,i really planned nailing it but what can i say. Am not certain of a high quant score in a retake, since those questns were nt strange to me. I really make silly mistakes esp @ d start.(i noticed it in powerprep practices) Need of your 2cents of advice,a frank one wud b appreciatd.lol.
Frankly speaking, I dont know what to advise, but I guess the gurus in the house wud suggest that you retake it again if you can esp. if you want to be certain about your admission chances after paying a whole lot in app fees.

Getting into pet engr schs in the US now is very very competitive (infact, I suspect politics don enter), I thought finishing the best grad student of my class(top 1) and getting a great gre score would give me an easy ride with funding into many if not all my chosen schs but I was wrong.

You may ve to get Scylla's favour to get admit in any usa pet engr schs wif your math score but I sincerely wish you success weda or not you decide to retake the gre cos I cant guarantee if you wud ve an improved score. The prep alone is time and energy sapping but it may just be worth it.
Hope my 2cents encourages you to make the right decision.
Success bro.

Your Initial post regarding your email sound like scam but now that yu have come out clearly that you are not one of those that come here for scam. . . . . they are are really sorry for the negative words they put against you.

@fris

I will like to know which date you will be leaving for the state cus i will leaving by middle july and i'm thinking of flying via Emirate also and when i get to JFK i will schedule another flight going to Salt lake City Utah.

@Fall Applicant

Make Una come out and share experince together bcus if you pple don't work as a team you can never achieve anything.  Look at the last year fall applicant they all work together as a family. I can remember Djunit walking down to fellow NL member house to share experince together all in the Name of Visa interview not to talk of bomly, Ojap and chigazom that was denied visa at thier Initial attempt but with the help of fellow NL they got thier VISA the following week.

likewise the spring the applicant also we all work together by sharing emails, phone # and pray for each other. The key we all use here P&P (pratice and pray), do not feel timid of asking any question related to yur visa interview or yur school. And if you are denied for the first time don't feel obsolete . . . . . You ccan do better next time

Papa God wey make  me, Mohaka, fris smile go make Una Laugh ooo. . . . . .

You ve to understand that members here currently dont ve early dates so there is no story to share.
You are not getting replies to your question probably because we hardly have any member with a case similar to yours or going for flight training which hardly takes up to 2yrs (I guess?) but I do know that while reading from the page 1 of this thread to the end (I advice you do same or goggle the pages up), there was a guy or two who got visa going for flight training and he was asked questions about flight, planes, his courses, and why that school? So do your research bro,
perhaps, can you tell us the docs you ve in your possession and a sample of how your first interview went? Then, we may be able to help formulate possible questions or someone with similar case as your would come up!

Some students can come up with the req. $$ for yankee studies but have no statement to back it up for the consular to see and you may fall into this category. I trust you wont give up bro, but I'd advise you sorted out this $$ statement palaver before going back there agn.

@House, I'd encourage we share our strong and weak areas in the house or IMO, to any member of the House by YIM as this wud go a long way in helping each other esp.in areas of our likely weaknesses.
I think if my friend Shavel had shared his e.g the documents in his possession detailing this $$ statement thing, we wud ve pointed out this area as a form of weakness wif possible solutions and prayer in this direction (there is norin prayer cant do) or betterstill, someone wud ve likely helped him out wif a clean $$ statement bearing his sponsor's name wif enuf balance via the 9ja way (gonga aso pointed this out and he was almost stoned, hope I wont be criticized now)..

Reading tru the pages (pg 1-158 now) where nethacker, femilangy, gonga aso, oyewole and co posted a list of the docs and credentials in the possession weeks/days before their interview made me wish I was part of that era, God's time is the best, so I'm good. I greatly admired their era,
They have gone now and are busy with yankee life and studies hence their absence from the House but we are here in thesame path, lets be smart and copy many of the attitude that made most of them a success (onto Visa oh).

My dummy email agn is ghummer1 at gmail dot com and my YIM is da.ghost63 at yahoo dot com.
So who's next, reloaded right?
Success to you and everyone else and this I mean the inactive members readers (like fris) of this great thread.

Hey House, I have successfully booked my appointment for Abuja for July 6th,
For those eyeing Abuja, please get your I-20 fast and book early as 6th July was the only date in July that I saw. Hope more dates wud be available.
Thank God for His grace in getting this date and thanks to everyone in the House for sharing the tips on getting started yesterday when I was very happy for getting my I-20 but almost confused on what next to do. Still cant believe that I have a date already and I can now relax myself with SERVIS Payment and interview prep!
its one step at a time but by faith, "Yankee here I come".
My prayers to shavel and others who are going for theirs 2moro,
Success.

My advice though gotten from Timotee and co in the House,
fill up the DS-160 form today using your SERVIS number.
Make sure you are careful wif the whole process, then print out your Confirmation page making sure the bar code is properly shown(use pdf printer to make a pdf copy out of it esp. if u dont ve an installed printer
; also send it to your email). Than rush to GTB tomorrow to pay for your visa app fee (N22400).
Then SERVIS fee payment shud be next in the picture immediately; whatever option you have decided on. Options are in the House.
Success bro

Timotee:

@ Myforumid3:
After, gettin your I-20 form, go to www.ustraveldocs.com/ng and fill out your DS-160 form online. U'd get a confirmation number. Next, pay your visa application fee (N22,400) at any GT bank. U'd get a receipt and u'd need d receipt number to book a visa appointment interview (also at www.ustraveldocs.com/ng) at either d Abuja or Lagos centre. If there're no available dates within 60 days of d resumption date on your I-20 form, then send a mail requesting an expedited interview with a scanned copy of your I-20 form. For payment of d SEVIS fee, I paid for mine using a foreign bank draft obtained from GTB and sent it via courier. This option is quite expensive as d bank charges u an extra $10.5 and if u want d SEVIS receipt sent to u by courier, SEVP charges u an additional $35. On d other hand, u could go to d ECOBANK just after d Seme border and pay using Western union (descriptions have earlier been given on this thread). U don't have to have paid your SEVIS fee to book an appointment, but u'd need it for d interview. And by d way, I also got my I-20 form by regular mail (PO Box) too.

@Timotee and Dis guy,
I am very grateful for the insightful guidance. I shall fill my DS-160 today and may ve my Visa application and SERVIS fee paid tomorrow but
@Timotee and All in th House, I stay very far from lag so I'd definitely prefer the GTB foreign bank draft for my SERVIS fee payment, Can you throw more it like:
Can I make the payment at any GTB bank branch even though I dont ve any account wif them?
What is the total cost (all charges inclusive) if I chose the expedited courier option (in $ and in naira)?
How long did it take you to get your SERVIS receipt after payment at GTB?
Can I make all my payments at GTB once i.e. both SERVIS fee and Visa fee?
Hope GTB collects the naira equivalent for this foreign draft?
I'd appreciate if I get your YIM or email contact or please add me up on: seuncaroline@yahoo.com

Thanks again. I'd really appreciate everyone's contribution.
We shall all get our visa. Who's going next?

Got this info from the Nigeria US Embassy site,
https://www.usa-vfsglobal-ng.com/guidelines.aspx
I am a prospective student. Do I still need an I-20 for my interview?

Yes. The DS-160 replaces all current visa application forms, but it does not replace the I-20. You will need to receive your I-20 from your school before you complete the DS-160 so that you can provide your correct SEVIS number on your DS-160 application form. Please note that students will not be able to complete the DS-160 without a SEVIS number.

solo4deji:

there is still date available 4 July in Lag 4 Abj na Aug dey. if u cant get it just add me on yahoo messanger

solo4bean88@yahoo.com.

To all applicants for fall I hope u guys preparing your interview at d embassy I wish u d best.

So my question is:
Since I have my I-20 (which has my SERVIS number) with me and I read from people in the house that dates are not available in july for abuja, except few in lag, Can I go ahead to fill the DS-160 form and book for appointment using the SERVIS number on my I-20 or there is something I would need from the paid SERVIS receipt that I need to include in my appointment application and DS-160 form filling?
I'd appreciate any help from the House and all that have passed through this process?
