Politics / Re: Was There Ever Slave Trade In Northern Nigeria? by myobjective: 1:44pm On Jul 28
Jerryherd:
cool

It was very rampant in the North, their trading routes were both trans Sahara and trans Atlantic

Tafawa balewa's father was a slave

The major problem was that after Fulanis took over Hausa kingdoms, they only kidnapp and sold hausas... This made many Hausa flee down South and met with British Colonialist soldiers

The British and the Hausa fleeing slaves started the British west Africa frontier force... They succeeded in sending Fulani emirs away and stopping the slave trade

British in turn made Hausa the First Constabulary of Nigeria, later local police, which later became Nigerian Army

.

Slave trade was the most profitable trade of the Sokoto caliphate. The Fulani jihad only took control of the 7 Hausa states and they were not interested to spread Islam to pagan tribes since this will hinder the raiding of these pagans for slaves. Since Muslims can't sell fellow Muslims as slaves. The Fulani ruler can't sell Hausa as slaves but they can raid pagan tribes like Bauchi (Bauchi means land of slaves in Hausa), Plateau, Nassarawa, Niger, Kebbi and generally areas you will see Christians today in northern Nigeria.

For example, Tafabalewa father is from a none Hausa from Bauchi, hence he was enslaved by the Fulani.

Kwara is Yoruba, Nupe and Baruba land. Fulani has no inch of land in the state. They are the visitor. Never repeat such nonsense again in your life.

I laugh at how ridiculous most of you sound on this platform. Many of you normally bring your self-esteem problem to bear on this platform.

I can tell you that I have spent more time living around Hausa/Fulani than any other ethnic group aside Yoruba in Nigeria and in all this time I don't give a Bleep what they think of me.

The reason we have such relative peace is because Sharia as not been introduced. We are seeing a dress rehearsal concerning the hijab situation in ilorin. Implent Sharia law in the southwest and see the age long omoluabi ethos shattered.
Disprove my analysis if am wrong. The only thing you can argue about is likely the %

I was born and still resides in the north. The Yoruba ethos of religious tolerance is more than that.

I have a Christian sister whose daughter now resides with my mother. Her name is Esther. Her dad and mom are Christians buts since she has been living with more mother for years, she dressed in a big hijab and perform every act of worship of a Muslim. Both of her parents have no problem with her choices. Yorubas are that liberal.

Exactly. That other guy is clearly a Fulani muslim extremist posing as Yoruba

Don't mind him! That is their mode of Operandi.

Yoruba are the most liberal group in Nigeria. I remembered how I was allowed to stay in a Redeemed family house despite being a Muslim. The only thing my fellow Yoruba Christian needed was the fact that I'm Yoruba. Even though I categorically told them that I wouldn't take part in their worship and praises.
This event opened my eyes to Yoruba togetherness. Without that accommodation that year in PH I wouldn't be stranded when I went there for my NYSC.

I will always take my Yoruba brother first before any group. My ethnicity is a better bond than any monotheist religion I may have been born into.

1. Lagos :even a blind man knows there are more christians than Muslims in lagos.even when you factor non indegenous settlers into the equation
2. Ogun state is also an example.
3 oyo is close with more Muslims than Christian around 10-15% difference in favour Muslims.
Osun has more christians than than muslims.but the Muslims are the northern part ,ikire, Oshogbo, ede Imuran have much muslim but also a very sizeable Christian population, while Ilesha is predominantly christians coupled with ife down into ondo states
Ondo state &Ekiti state,:there are more christians in ondo and ekiti state. Infact they are over. 75%

This your analysis doesn't reflect the reality on the ground but the question is why does it matter what demography of follower of both religions is more?

Who has carried out any census to determine what faith has the largest follower?

Religion will continue to play the second fiddle in the life of the Yorubas no matter how hard extremist from both religions tries.

I'm from a town with a predominantly Muslim population and will still have relatives that are Christians. Live and let live is the true Omoluabi ethos. Religions will always play second fiddle no matter how hard the Pentecostal churches and Salafist element tries.

So which scholarship exam is that?

Which organisation conducted the screening?

For sure, if it is a foreign body, the body would have sponsored it and Buhari has no power over it.

If it is fed govt body, then I say without iota of doubt, this is a big fat lie. Fed govt scholarships are usually spread across geopolitical zones, and indeed, states, so how comes no Northerners passed?

Keep lying to yourselves.

Some of these clowns making noise about Northerners always make me laugh. Go to schools dominated by Northerners and see how they beat their Southern counterparts in all ramifications. Yes, I'm a living witness, (ABU Zaria) but you can bullshit yourself that Northern graduates can't compete with you. That is nothing but self deception.

Minister of communication and digital economy is a northerner. Pls which of the ministerial nominees performed better than him during screening. As I have said, you can bullshit yourself to feel satisfied, that is your business.

They can't actually compete when pitted against southerners.

I went to a northern school. Fut Minna and in my set, there was no single core-northern first class graduate from the school of engineering. In my department, all the three first-class were Yorubas. Ondo, Oyo and Kwara.

It's what it's. The problem is not that they are naturally daft, the problem is they don't in most cases have the hunger.

The core-northerner society has a problem with scholarship, they are too none charlatan and believe that attending a university alone is all that is needed to survive since the requirement for civil service has been ridiculously lowered for them under the pretence of quota.

I'd like to see this process playout at some point. They should clamour to join another state instead of trying to create a new state. The latter is more difficult since it requires more consensus approve. Nass will not care since the politicking only changes slightly compared to America where house seats are apportioned by population.

I predict after the first sucessful attempt at this we probably would see more ethno majority states forms based on culture, religion and partisan politics later. It will make governors more interested in developing areas overall knowing certain tax cows will choose different place to be yoked.

It may be too late to redraw any map at this point. We may have to redraw the nation and grant ethnic nationalities their independence. Nigeria is going nowhere has it's currently structured.

While this is totally true and discomforting, it's also a fact that most middle belters were very vigorous in their desperation to be identified as northerners for a very long time... Alligning with the north politically and culturally, fighting fulani battles with pride and happily discarding their identities just to assume the fulani invented wack-one North identity.. That behavioral trend that have lasted for the better part of a century, helped cement the notion that everybody from Benue going upwards are all northerners..

Political power! The military power gave the core north an edge and ensure political patronization by middle belts and northern minorities but since the coming of civilian gov't and the endless religious riots in the north, these alignments have begun t shift.
The average northern minorities from Gombe, Plateau, Adamawa, southern Borno, Taraba, Niger, Nassarawa, Southern Kaduna, part of Kebbi feel at home and have beginning to shift their alliances to the south provided they are Christians.

For the case of Kwara, Kogi and Benue, these states are not so different from the southern states they share boundaries with.

My friend it's not just about politics, remember afonja, the fulanis would always have something to entice their subject to

This is why Hausa can't still get rid of them

You people should be first careful against them before a disintegration can come

When Nigeria disintegrate, economic realities will realign interests and view.

It makes political sense for Saraki to claim partly Fulani ancestry but when Nigeria disintegrate, it wouldn't make any sense to hold such views. Who will want to be cut off from the huge economy of the south, the port in Lagos and the oil in the Niger Delta (southern Nigeria remains)?

Even the Nupes below the river Niger, the Barutan and other minorities in Kwara will opt to go with the south. I visit these a tad and I talk with politicians here.

But I take them with a pinch of salt, it is what it is

If plateau benue was as close as kogi kwara is to south they would have been ditched the north by all means since.

Because I'm partly from Ilorin in Kwara.
Take the case of Kwara, the Yoruba speaking part of Kwara (apart from Ilorin) has been fighting to be reintegrated back to the southwest for ages.

Ilorin has a Fulani emir that the only legitimacy to the title is religion. Whenever the issue of separation comes up, he is always scared of what we befall him.
There is also the presence of mostly Yorubanized Fulani who doesn't want to be joined to the southwest but these are group are small even in Ilorin. An overwhelming majority of the people are Yoruba and pro-Yoruba.

Taking about Saraki being pro north is juvenile. Saraki is not even an indigene of Kwara or Ilorin. Saraki father is Egba from Ogun while his mother is Iseyin from Oyo. Saraki is married to a Christian woman from Owo in Ondo state. Saraki daughter is married to a Christian man from Ogun State. How can you say such a man is pro north?

Forget what politicians say and look at their personal life for a clue. I know most of you have never been to that part of Nigeria to actually have a first-hand knowledge of things.

I am actually not talking of religion

I believe it's about where ties currently lie.

The average kogi people are pro Arawa (they nod with silence and would never challenge Arrewa on anything even though they are closer to Edo and Abuja than core North)

Kwara people is filled with mixed Yoruba fulani genes e.g Saraki (they are always under pressure to prove their alliance to core North since they are neither here nor there).

But you see that Benue and Plateau that is in the heart of core North they are always ready to slug it out against Arrewa and flow with us.

Ultimately these ties and loyalty would come in when it becomes full blown blockade from arewa

Talking rubbish from your anus. Kwara is an overwhelmed pro-Yoruba state. The Nupe in Kwara north will even side with the Yoruba when shit it the fan.

Why did the union stop those vehicles from crossing the River Niger bridge into the Kwara state? They know they wouldn't be able to do anything if it crosses.

Most kogites are pro south. The majority of the Kogi east are Yoruba themselves, Kogi central is egbiraland and Ondo host the second largest population of Egbira people in Nigeria. The Igala people are closer to the east than anyone. The only part of Kogi that will go with the North is the part north of the River Niger.

When shit hit the fan, the River Niger bridge is the boundary between the south and the north

Not really. I am from a town in the Akoko region and I can tell you that there's no Yoruba word in our dialect.

Which part of Akoko are you from?

There are so many dialects in the Akoko region of Ondo state, the majority are eastern Yoruba dialects.

Most people always mixed up with being Yoruba to speaking Oyo dialects. Oyo dialects is a northern Yoruba language and it's was adopted as a standard Yoruba dialect.

I know this because my father is from Ikare and my mother from Ilorin.
The Ikare dialect which is the largest dialect in Akoko Ondo overlaps with the standard Yoruba with more than 80%, I know this because I speak both languages.

The only influence in much of Akoko apart from the OYO we're the Nupes, Owo and Ibadan. Though, there are groups that speak an Edoid language in Akoko Ondo, but they now have been Yorubanized.

Finally, the Standard Yoruba dialect is being spoken as a second language or first language by all Akoko Ondos.
