naija should learn from this. Evil, obnoxious and wicked men should be hastily and speedily brought to justice. If it were naija, I'm sure we will set up a committee to look into the investigation and after about 3 months, everything goes down the drain. |
baby_123: Get help with a trained psychologist. Besides its not the end of the world. There are ways to eliminate acne scars these days. If you have the money. If you have a problem, look for the solution. Don't just give up. Anyone that doesn't accept you, that should be their own problem really. But you have to love yourself first. How bad is it? And how old are you? You may just be having unnecessary body image issues. |
Lord_Reed: Psychologists have said that the bodily changes that place between puberty and young adulthood do tend to raise self esteem/self acceptance issues. I believe your friend has found his own issues more troubling than is considered usual. If he is going to overcome suicidal thoughts he will have to gain a good idea of his own self worth. For me I will point him to Jesus Christ who as the Representative of God to man made us know that above all things we are worth dying for no matter how we look or how people have rejected us, we are all precious. Thanks |
Pataki: Suicidal over acne? Sounds ludicrous, but my work with mental patients some years back has made me to see far worse than the ludicrous. This sounds so true but I don't really know how to go about it. Thanks for the great input. |
obowunmi: Find a therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist.Thanks. |
7842I: Solution? Buy a strong rope and hang it on your ceiling fan hook, then hang a dog or goat on it and watch the effects.......This is a joke right? |
My Vicky: Thanks |
Richfella: Bro, I'd recommend The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. He wanted to commit suicide too. Would be of immense help. Thanks |
My Vicky: Thanks for the contribution |
Winneygirl: Well, I undrstd d insecurity felt if U're not confident abt Ur looks. Thanks for the contribution |
obowunmi: You often have no way of dealing with certain life experiences as you go thru them. Many people are going thru psychological bondage and trauma. There is no shrink, psychological help, or psychiatrist. You are right about this. |
obowunmi: Suicide is a problem for people when they feel lonely and have no one to express their truest feelings to. Nigeria particularly is a place where the voices of young people are oppressed, repressed, and suppressed. This is another way to look at the problem but there must be a solution somewhere. |
slimyem: Sucidal thoughts over acne?It can't be that bad.Acne is the problem. Thanks for the contribution |

baby_123: Tell him not to pick the acne. Get acidiophylus (if that's the correct spelling) to increase the good bacteria in his body. Take it as directed on the bottle. When he is doing this, he should try to be on a veggie and fruit diet. Maybe for a week. Then he can start reintroducing other foods to see which foods trigger the acne. He should also reduce all hormonal food intake and stick to skim milk. Acne can be cause by hormones or bacteria. Also, water is very important. Take 8-10 8oz glasses a day! Most important, don't pick at the acne. It causes scars and spreads when he does. He should leave it alone. Using natural rose water as a toner after cleansing also helps. Find a good facial cleanser and lotion that is oil free and non comedogenic. Eg, aveeno. He should look into cosmetic procedures to reduce or eliminate the scars. I wish him luck. He's tried virtually everything you advised. But, thanks a lot and your advice is well appreciated. |

And how old are you? You may just be having unnecessary body image issues. That's a nice and great response from you. I will tell him the same. It's really bad, roughly 20 scars on both sides of the face if I'm not mistaken. In his twenties. |
baby_123: Suicide because of acne scars? What should people who have real health issues and life challenges do? Surely there is more to life for you than the superficial. Get a hobby or something. SMH.I understand your point but acne is also a serious health issue especially when it is tending to being chronic. It could lead to psychological imbalance, inferiority complex, low self esteem and so on and for a young person, these are not to be taken lightly. |
I understand how terrible acne could make one's life especially a young person. I becomes difficult to walk freely, to socialize, to speak confidently without thinking about what others thinks about one's marred look. But how can one actually deal with the stigma acne brings and not have suicidal thoughts? |
A friend told me that whenever she looks at her challenges in life, she feels like committing suicide and one also said that whenever he looks at himself in the mirror, he feels like killing himself because he has so many acne scars on his face. Then I remember I have also had to resist such odious suicidal thoughts once in a while. First, how can one deal with acne permanently? Especially when you have tried all medications and all supposed natural methods without any solution? Second, how can one grow facial hairs to cover scars on the side of one's face? Also, have you ever found yourself contemplating committing suicide? And how can one stop such unplesant thoughts? |
birdman: Can you add an example to buttress your point? I know tons of people, who by virtue of not being born into developed countries, had a starting advantage by going to those countries as young adults.I do not quite understand your point? |
ekt_bear: A fair point...I guess not reasonable for me present myself as typical in this case. |
One_Naira: You are wrong. This is a bad news for those that still believe in Nigeria. 80 spots are the states sampled so far so nigeria was last in their sample which you should be sad about. My point is that Nigeria is definitely not the best place to be born in the world but Nigeria is certainly not the WORST!!! If all the countries of the world are considered, Nigeria can not be the worst!!! I do not need any study nor any sampling process to know that to be born in Nigeria is a privilege as compared to being born in somalia, sudan, iraq, afghanistan, kosovo and so on. |
birdman: The study is too nebulous to be useful though. I would argue a child born to a Nigerian middle class family is luckier than one born to middle class African American family in 2013 on average. You can finish secondary school and university without an ounce of debt. And all the crap we pulled in boarding school in Nigeria would in the US get you a rap sheet so long you couldn't get into a good university, never mind a decent job. Lets not even talk about being born black in Britain or one of those Euro countries. My point is, Nigeria may be corrupt, but the state is not fundamentally designed to put you on the outside.Your comparison between middle class nigerian family and middle class african american family is only valid in very few isolated cases, on the average, your assertion is somewhat invalid. |
ekt_bear: i was born in naija and turned out okGood for you. |
Pukkah: I agree, Nigeria may not be the worst country to be born but Nigeria did not come 80th out of 200 (as you wrongly stated) because they did not rank more than 80 countries.Still 80th of course! I am among those who still believe in Nigeria! It's even good news that Nigeria was selected among the 80 countries sampled! What should the unrecognised countries do? |
Pukkah: Nigeria did not come 80th out of 200.I don't quite agree with this logic. Imagine you have an organization that ranks universities in Nigeria, then during the ranking process, only 50 universities are ranked and UI comes first, wouldn't it be right to say that UI is the best university in Nigeria (out of all the Universities in Nigeria even though only 50 were ranked). Besides, my point is that Nigeria is definitely not the best place to be born in the world but Nigeria is certainly not the WORST!!! If all the countries of the world are considered, Nigeria can not be the worst!!! |
