Recently Had similar discussion regarding kids and YouTube ( how it would be nice to have tween and teen version) . You can't really control it to be honest and if you horde the information, they'll hide and browse the whole information if that what it takes.

Their inquisitiveness is sometimes mind troubling .
I quite agree with you.

Is it okay to tell children how much salary we earn each month? I'm just wondering what to tell my children if they ask me how much I earn? I always feel the matter of money is similar to discussing sex with kids, though I may be wrong. So, should our kids of 5 to 12 years know how much salary we take home at the end of the month?

Family7 Habits Of Chronically Unhappy People by MyVicky(op): 5:05pm On Nov 19, 2014
There are seven qualities chronically unhappy people have mastered.

According to Psychology Today, University of California researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky states: "40 percent of our of our capacity for happiness is within our power to change."

If this is true and it is, there's hope for us all. There are billions of people on our planet and clearly some are truly happy. The rest of us bounce back and forth between happiness and unhappiness depending on the day.

Throughout the years, I've learned there are certain traits and habits chronically unhappy people seem to have mastered. But before diving in with you, let me preface this and say: we all have bad days, even weeks when we fall down in all seven areas.

The difference between a happy and unhappy life is how often and how long we stay there.

Here are the 7 qualities of chronically unhappy people.

1. Your default belief is that life is hard.

Happy people know life can be hard and tend to bounce through hard times with an attitude of curiosity versus victimhood. They take responsibility for how they got themselves into a mess, and focus on getting themselves out of it as soon as possible.

Perseverance towards problem versus complaining over circumstances is a symptom of a happy person. Unhappy people see themselves as victims of life and stay stuck in the "look what happened to me" attitude versus finding a way through and out the other side.

2. You believe most people can't be trusted.

I won't argue that healthy discernment is important, but most happy people are trusting of their fellow man. They believe in the good in people, versus assuming everyone is out to get them. Generally open and friendly towards people they meet, happy people foster a sense of community around themselves and meet new people with an open heart.

Unhappy people are distrustful of most people they meet and assume that strangers can't be trusted. Unfortunately this behavior slowly starts to close the door on any connection outside of an inner-circle and thwarts all chances of meeting new friends.

3. You concentrate on what's wrong in this world versus what's right.

There's plenty wrong with this world, no arguments here, yet unhappy people turn a blind eye to what's actually right in this world and instead focus on what's wrong. You can spot them a mile away, they'll be the ones complaining and responding to any positive attributes of our world with "yeah but".

Happy people are aware of global issues, but balance their concern with also seeing what's right. I like to call this keeping both eyes open. Unhappy people tend to close one eye towards anything good in this world in fear they might be distracted from what's wrong. Happy people keep it in perspective. They know our world has problems and they also keep an eye on what's right.

4. You compare yourself to others and harbor jealousy.

Unhappy people believe someone else's good fortune steals from their own. They believe there's not enough goodness to go around and constantly compare yours against theirs. This leads to jealousy and resentment.

Happy people know that your good luck and circumstance are merely signs of what they too can aspire to achieve. Happy people believe they carry a unique blueprint that can't be duplicated or stolen from -- by anyone on the planet. They believe in unlimited possibilities and don't get bogged down by thinking one person's good fortune limits their possible outcome in life.

5. You strive to control your life.

There's a difference between control and striving to achieve our goals. Happy people take steps daily to achieve their goals, but realize in the end, there's very little control over what life throws their way.

Unhappy people tend to micromanage in effort to control all outcomes and fall apart in dramatic display when life throws a wrench in their plan. Happy people can be just as focused, yet still have the ability to go with the flow and not melt down when life delivers a curve-ball.

The key here is to be goal-oriented and focused, but allow room for letting sh*t happen without falling apart when the best laid plans go awry- because they will. Going with the flow is what happy people have as plan B.

6 You consider your future with worry and fear.

There's only so much rent space between your ears. Unhappy people fill their thoughts with what could go wrong versus what might go right.

Happy people take on a healthy dose of delusion and allow themselves to daydream about what they'd like to have life unfold for them. Unhappy people fill that head space with constant worry and fear.

Happy people experience fear and worry, but make an important distinction between feeling it and living it. When fear or worry crosses a happy person's mind, they'll ask themselves if there's an action they can be taken to prevent their fear or worry from happening (there's responsibility again) and they take it. If not, they realize they're spinning in fear and they lay it down.

7. You fill your conversations with gossip and complaints.

Unhappy people like to live in the past. What's happened to them and life's hardships are their conversation of choice. When they run out of things to say, they'll turn to other people's lives and gossip.

Happy people live in the now and dream about the future. You can feel their positive vibe from across the room. They're excited about something they're working on, grateful for what they have and dreaming about the possibilities of life.

Obviously none of us are perfect. We're all going to swim in negative waters once in a while, but what matters is how long we stay there and how quickly we work to get ourselves out. Practicing positive habits daily is what sets happy people apart from unhappy people, not doing everything perfectly.

Walk, fall down, get back up again, repeat. It's in the getting back up again where all the difference resides.

Christianity EtcThe Fuss About America Being A 'godless' Nation By Nigerians. by MyVicky(op): 4:01pm On Sep 18, 2014
I realized that Nigerians are overly reactive to any news about the disregard for God by some Americans and then they begin to label America as a 'Godless' nation and begin to analyze how Obama is the Antichrist and so on. In my opinion, it just goes to show how ignorant and indoctrinatedly docile some religious people could be. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Christian by God's grace and I'm not in anyway condoning the the disregard for God openly professed by some Americans. In case you don't know, American Christians are usually and arguably more loving, caring, sincere, down-to-earth than most Nigerian Christians and America has the largest christian population in the world (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity_in_the_United_States). The American people who trample on God are usually in the Minority and that does not warrant labeling such a nation 'a Godless' nation. The fact that about 70 million people out of about 300 million do not believe in God or trample on God's name does not in anyway justify such act of blasphemy from religious Nigerians.

Besides, with all the 'Godliness' we profess in Africa especially in Nigeria, what do we have to show for it? It's all religiousness with no tangible values to the common man and the masses. America is still millions of miles ahead of Nigeria and most countries in the world. America has regard for human lives than we have in Nigeria and America cares for her children than we do in Nigeria and some Nigerian religious organizations. I wish time would allow me to say more....So, let America be! Make Nigeria a better place to be!

Just my humble opinion.

HealthExperimental Stem Cell Treatment Causes Woman To Grow A Nose On Her Spine by MyVicky(op): 12:39am On Jul 17, 2014
Stem cells are seen as one of modern medicine's most promising magic bullets, but that doesn't mean that we understand them. A paralyzed woman from the US has learned this the hard way, after an experimental treatment caused her to grow a nose-like tumor on her back. The unnamed person took part in a trial whereby stem cells from her nose were applied to her spine in the hope that it could repair the nerve damage that led to her paralysis. Unfortunately, the treatment was unsuccessful and, eight years later, the subject found worsening pain in that same area. When surgeons operated, they found a tumor comprised of nasal tissue that was producing a thick substance that was remarkably close to mucus.
Anyone who could be put off a life-saving treatment should probably relax, at least for now. The procedure used by the Hospital de Egas Moniz in Lisbon was unorthodox and bypassed a process that would have grown specific cells in a lab before implantation. Instead, the clinic simply inserted parts of the nasal lining straight into the spine, which is most likely why the tumor was able to form. Despite this, a 2010 report on this same trial found that there may be benefits to the procedure, with some subjects actually seeing positive results. Either way, now that the problem has come to light, the University of Iowa's Brian J. Dlouhy, who removed the tumor, has suggested that all stem cell trial patients should be given much more attention after their surgery to ensure this is a one-off event.

Stem cells are undifferentiated biological cells that can differentiate into specialized cells and can divide (through mitosis) to produce more stem cells. They are found in multicellular organisms. In mammals, there are two broad types of stem cells: embryonic stem cells, which are isolated from the inner cell mass of blastocysts, and adult stem cells, which are found in various tissues

The stem cell controversy is the ethical debate centered only with research involving the creation, usage, and destruction of human embryos. Most commonly, this controversy focuses on embryonic stem cells. Not all stem cell research involves the creation, usage and destruction of human embryos. For example, adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or destroying human embryos and thus are minimally, if at all, controversial.

Christianity EtcRe: Few Reasons Why Some Christians Don't Celebrate Christmas! by MyVicky(op): 6:35pm On Dec 27, 2013
sammy_ademola: We could also argue that Christians must not do whatever has not been commanded in the Bible. For instance, Christians must not observe nor celebrate independence days since they are not in the Bible. Christians must not board airplanes since there was nothing like it in the Bible. Christians must not own houses since our Lord said He had no where to lay His head, Chrsitians must have the poors and impoverished as their friends and daily companions since that was what the Lord did. I am just confused the more about so many of the inferences we make from the Bible and I don't even know which is true or not!
I see what you are saying.

Christians Who Don't Celebrate Christmas: Here's Why

article by Good News Editor

Why do some Christians not celebrate Christmas? Here are the reasons some gave for kicking the Christmas habit:

"I cannot find Christmas in the Bible nor can I find that Jesus Christ told us to observe Christmas. Santa Claus is a lie that some people teach their children every year. For that matter, Christmas is false since it has nothing to do with Christ or His birthday.

"Beyond this, business people, who make most of their income during this time of the year, have increasingly promoted Christmas. Well-meaning people go in debt during Christmas time to give gifts to other people, which in turn motivates other people to give gifts to them. It makes no sense to keep a religious holiday that is not biblical, that Christ never sanctioned, that promotes lying to children, that puts people in debt and that blinds people to what Christ really taught."

—P.A., Georgia

"It is a historical fact that Christmas is not the day or the season when Christ was born. So why observe a day that is a lie? Most people do not want to admit this fact. For example, how does the use of Santa Claus depict the birth of Christ? How does the Christmas tree depict Christ? Celebrating Christmas violates at least the First, Second and Third Commandments of God's Ten Commandments. Observing a pagan holiday is a sin. God condemns the worship of pagan gods.

"The Bible does not command people to observe the birth of Christ as a holiday. This day, Dec. 25, is the date that has been observed for centuries as a pagan holiday in honor of the pagan sun god. God commands those who want to serve Him not to observe pagan holidays or any custom that breaks His holy laws."

—D.S., California

"Our family traditionally celebrated Christmas on Dec. 24. We then followed up with a family day on Dec. 25. One day I had a strong desire to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, which I thought I had been doing up to that point. I met a number of people who were having the same strange experience. We asked ourselves, 'What does God think about Christmas?' 'Are we truly pleasing God?' 'Am I doing something that Jesus did and taught?'

"I began to think of the songs we sang, 'O Tannenbaum' and 'Oh! Christmas Tree.' I had been singing to a tree as though it were alive and had some strange power. We decorated it and placed our gifts below the tree as though the gifts and good feeling emanated from and through the tree.

"I thought about the words to 'Silent Night, Holy Night,' a truly beautiful piece of music. I wondered about shepherds and their flocks in the fields on a lovely evening at the end of December. But this was a contradiction. December was a very cold time of the year and sheep wouldn't be in open fields during that time.

"The Christmas stories about Santa Claus and the shepherds in the fields on Christmas Eve were false. I found out that Jerusalem has rain and cold that time of year and it sometimes snows in the region. Sheep are sheltered in the wintertime, not left out in inclement weather.

"I discovered that the Christmas tree and its ornaments and giving of Christmas gifts come from ancient Roman festivals. I also learned that the Christmas tree represents idolatry, which is an affront to God (Exodus 20:4-5

). Jesus Christ never sinned in His life and says we should avoid sin, going against God's will (Hebrews 12:1-4

).

"The gifts our children had asked of Santa Claus created a financial burden on us. The lies about Santa Claus and his flying reindeer were misleading our children.

"Also, the Bible tells us it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35
). During Christmas time, I saw little joy in giving and I saw children always expecting to receive. I have come to understand that godly blessings come from carefully obeying God. This is why I don't keep Christmas."

—B.B., Canada

"God tells us to avoid the ways of the ancient pagans. Though modern Christianity observes Christmas, this is where it came from. To be frank, Christmas is a lie. Christmas is a substitute for righteous behavior. It makes people think they are doing good things for God, which somehow does Him service."

—A.H., Australia

"I have heard that Christmas has been around for nearly 4,000 years. If that is true, and I think it is, I do not see any evidence that the early apostolic Church observed Christmas or tried to 'Christianize' a pagan festival that predated Christ's birth.

"It seems clear to me that the apostles and early Church kept the Holy Days recorded in the Old Testament, and there are several Old Testament scriptures that speak about the Holy Days being kept by all people after Christ's return to earth. The Bible is clear that we are to shun paganism and observe the annual Holy Days and the weekly Sabbath day."

—D.N., Oklahoma

"I figure you can't go wrong sticking with what the Bible says and by following the example of Jesus Christ Himself and the apostles and early Church. They never kept Christmas or anything like it. They knew what the Scriptures said about trying to use other religions' practices to worship and honor God. It just doesn't work; God expects better from us.

"It's a shame that most people have never looked into the Bible and history to learn for themselves the true origins of Christmas. It's an eye-opening study, one I started when I was only a teenager. I've learned so much more about what God is all about and what He wants and expects from us since I started relying on His Word rather than human traditions that have no basis in the Bible."

—R.A., Colorado

You are sooo right about Christmas. the shepards were in the fields. even to this day shepards are not in the fields in winter. Besides we can back up astronomy. Not only that, the shepards in the field went to see a BABY. The maji went to see a YOUNG CHILD in a house. Christmas is the worship of DAGON the fish god's b-day. Easter as well is the pagan god of ester, a fertility god.For dagon's b-day the people would take evergreen type of trees and decorate them and exchange them with each other. It is definitaly not Our Saviour's b-day. Our Lord told us to not to have anything to do with pagan rituals or to practice as they worshiped in any way. We are not even to say thier names.

Hence, I do not doubt God's healing given that Jesus Christ is same yesterday, today, and forever(Hebrews 13:cool.

A friend asked me why is Nigeria not able to have her own Visa lottery program? I felt that's way too much to ask from our dear country. I believe Nigeria must fix the critical sectors of her economy before even dreaming of having a visa lottery program. How can you have such program when your educational sector is in shambles and marred with incessant ASUU strike actions, how can you dream of such program when you cannot guarantee stable supply of electricity, pipe borne water, good and pliable roads, decent health care system and so on. In my opinion, the country is still very far away from such realities! I may be wrong, so what do you think fellow NLders?
