In this era of human existence, it is not uncommon for individuals to have a role model. The role models are usually selected from accomplished folks from all works of life such as religion, politics, entertainments, academics, industry and so on. Some even go to the extent of attributing their successes to such role models. Just randomly ask someone beside you of his/her role model and you immediately receive spontaneous response from them and one might look awkward if one doesn't have a role model. Please, I want to know if people can succeed without a role model and what are the merits and demerits of having a role model? |
The progress and development of Nigeria is seriously at stake until all the diverse ethnic groups can truly unite and be aversed to all forms of tribalism, ethno-centricity and ego-centricity! Virtually no Nigerian would complain if asked to change his/her name to an English/American/European/Jewish/Arabian name; We are very quick to adopt names like Vicky (Lol), Jennifer, Cinderella, smith, Candy, smart etc but visibly angry @ each other's tribal appellations! I'm sure your husband won't ask you to change your name if you bear 'Blessing, Praise, Joy, Gift, Jewellery, Mary etc' and you wouldn't complain either if he had asked you to change to any of the aforementioned names! This is just a case of pure subconscious tribal disapproval. You love each other but dislike each other's tribal lineage. You need to communicate more with your husband and dispel every iota of tribalistic tendencies he may have against you and you should also examine yourself objectively and get rid of such tendencies; the long term survival and bliss of your home partly depends of this! Good luck to you and your home. |
I prefer water but if the preferrable isn't available, then the available is preferably. so, I use whichever is available. |
Staying for real. |
I don't see anything wrong in what GEJ has done; it's expected that he sends such letter to the respective countries! He did the same to the families of the victims of BH atrocities in Nigeria. In my humble opinion, GEJ should just forestall the future occurrence of such odious incident by strategically tackling the BH menace once and for all. I believe the govt knows what to do but either lack the will power to do it or just don't want to do it because of the people involved. |
To the about 870,000 members of Nairaland, I respect everyone and his or her opinion. I had been visiting NL for about 6 months before I finally decided to be a member because of your comments. Some of the comments are intelligent, incisive and insightful, some are funny, laughter-inducing and creates an ambience of paroxysm of laughter, some are unintelligible, undecipherable and convoluted-the diversity of opinion makes the forum an eventful one. How I wish we could all change to our real names-even for a day, so we know our true identity. Moreover, I'll like to mention just very few user IDs that came to mind while I type this message: IDs like Seun,mukina2,OAM4J,Frosbel,dyt, freecocoa, slimyem, rokiatu, dayokanu, chaircover, ink_nerd,killz,aisha,pendo89,jarus,nayah,ifyalways,mclatunji and so on and so forth. You guys are doing great and your various comments sometimes make me feel like meeting you in person or knowing who you truly are! You guys should keep the flame burning, |
29 years is a very long period of time. I don't need to sympathize with you anymore because, as someone rightly noted, you are triumphant already! I personally feel you should just let him be and face his judgment here on earth or hereafter except he repents and does necessary restitution to you. On your part, thumbs up to you for reaching out to him and I feel you should even find a place in your heart to forgive him and move on victoriously with your life. There are several complications with the idea of publishing his name and contacts and even if you eventually succeed in nailing the asinine guy, of what good will it be to you, that won't reverse the evil done and two wrongs don't make a right. Instead, strive to be the great woman you wanna be! |
Admittedly, I like CR7 than Messi but I wouldn't allow sentiment to becloud my sense of reason. Messi is way ahead of CR7 currently. I'm damn sure that the almighty soccer midget called Lionel Messi would over perform in any league in the world. I believe CR7 is a more complete player and he is quite unique and exceptional in his own way but he has not measured up to Leo when the big picture or holistic perspective of a soccer player is considered. Messi is a soccer genius. Both of them are exceptional in their own stylistic niche but Messi is far ahead in that exceptional ambience! |

, Wait and see the end of the case before you apportion applauds/credits; it might turn out to be another political/diplomatic move to silence the masses. |
, I'm just thinking about Nigeria's performance at the Korea/Japan 2002 world cup ![]() |
@OP, Send her away fast or you found yourself praying ''to be sent away'' !!! Be content with your wife and kids. |

Congratulations Man Utd !!! |
RM should please extend the point to 10 again and let it remain like that till the end of the season!!! Breath of fresh air needed in the La Liga pls. |
One of the greatest mistake made by Chelsea was allowing Muo leave! AVB's sack - long over due. Chelsea needs a more competent manager!!! |
That sounds like a breaking news to me. |

Having a First class is not enough as 'NL Forumites' have advised you and a First class in itself is not a determinant of your success in life, YOU determine your direction in life. In retrospect, I had class mates back then in the University who deserved to finish with a first class but could not. The department produced just six first class graduates; not because the 1st class guys were better but because they were smarter, more focussed, more determined and had a bit of the luck-factor or God-factor. The pure truth is that, today, the 1st class guys ain't more successful than the rest of the class and as a matter of fact, some of the 2.1 and 2.2 guys are better placed than the 1st class guys - though, we can't rule out the prevalent nepotism, god-fatherism or favoritism in the country. The First class degree is just an opportunity and one must not stop there. One thing I know is that if you are intelligent and work smarter, not only harder, making a first class isn't a big deal. You shouldn't also feel frustrated for not being able to make a 1st class. |
I am not an economist and I might not fully understand market forces and the full interplay among foreign exchanges, but as a layman, one thing I know is that the value of our exports to the US is far greater than the value to China and I don't personally feel it's a nice move because even if the Yuan appreciates, we ain't exporting goods to China and I don't see the Yuan appreciation accruing additional income to our economy. Also, there has always been a latent and cold diplomatic rivalry between the US and China and the Chinese government is well aware of that fact and as a result might not be overtly pressured into revaluing her currency. Equally, we cannot really trust the Chinese government as we are not sure of their long term motive. |
I like the smell of baby powder, sand after light shower, dried fabrics, my own flatulence-lol |
, Someone should please save Portsmouth from folding up! |
Novak Djokovic saw it coming based on his comment immediately after the Aussie Open 2012 semi final clash btw them. Congratulations to Murray and I hope he'll repeat the feat @ the remaining 3 grand slam competitions of 2012! |

What do you expect from an inept system that had to wait for UK to convict one of her ex-governors? |
In Nigeria, Even though I am not a fan of the 'mouthedness' of OAU graduates, I will strongly recommend OAU, UNILAG, UNIBEN, ABU, UNN, FUTA, FUTO, to you in that order, that's if you have the cerebral stamina and intellectual prowess to cope with the engineering programs there. |
I don't' like controlling people neither do I like people being controlling or over bearing on me. I prefer a relationship without do's and don'ts. Of course, as matured minds, you should know what is wrong and what is right and we don't need to set rules before we avoid the wrongs and do the rights! That said and done, if the partner is the type that sets unrealistic expectations or the insatiable type, I think setting rules/ bounds is better in such relationships. Sorry, zero years experience! |

The NDLEA argued that it cannot afford such exorbitant compensation. Please, my question is that what happens to NDLEA if it defaults and refuses to pay within the stipulated 21 day period? Will NDLEA be compulsorily folded up? Will the directors and heads be sacked? Who takes responsibility for the inability to pay baba Suwe, NDLEA or FG? Will the Nigerian judiciary be compelled to reconsider its verdict? Help please!!! |
Please, will the SGF allow that his child be posted to Gombe or Zamfara let alone a remote village in Borno state? The poor usually suffers from any policy these insincere people formulate. Imagine a graduate of accountancy/law serving in a remote village, working with rural susbsistent farmers, wasting a complete year in the name of serving his/her father land? While the well connected graduate of Agricultural science and extension finds his way to an oil multinational or a conglomerate! These people are only out to make policies strategically directed not at themselves but at the masses and those without God fathers. |
