Trump having a business and living in New York is like swimming in shark infested waters. A Republican can never get fair hearing or justice in deep blue demonrats infested States like New York. It's all dirty politics - and we know it.

Trump has lost several court cases in ruby-red Florida. How about that?

Trump’s historic indictment does not prevent him from continuing to run for president in 2024.

News of the indictment has certainly supercharged Trump's fundraising efforts, but it might not affect Trump's 2024 chances. His MAGA base is still a minority in the U.S. electorate.

Manhattan grand jury votes to indict Trump — NYT

This could very well upend his 2024 ambitions.
Foreign Affairs / Former U.S. President Donald Trump Indicted For Hush Money Payments To Porn Star by N2B2: 10:50pm On Mar 30, 2023
NEW YORK, March 30 (Reuters) - Donald Trump has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury after a probe into hush money paid to porn star Stormy Daniels, becoming the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges even as he makes another run for the White House, a law enforcement source said on Thursday.

The charges, arising from an investigation led by Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, could reshape the 2024 presidential race. Trump previously said he would continue campaigning for the Republican Party's nomination if charged with a crime.

The specific charges are not yet known and the indictment will likely be announced in the coming days, the New York Times reported. Trump will have to travel to Manhattan for fingerprinting and other processing at that point.

Bragg's office and a lawyer representing Trump did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Trump, 76, sought re-election in 2020 but was defeated by Democrat Joe Biden. Trump has falsely claimed he lost to Biden due to widespread voting fraud and has called the investigation that led to his indictment a "political witch hunt." Bragg's office last year won the criminal conviction of the businessman-turned-politician's real estate company.

A grand jury convened by Bragg in January began hearing evidence about Trump's role in the payment to Daniels days before the 2016 presidential election that he ended up winning. Daniels, a well-known adult film actress and director whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, has said she received the money in exchange for keeping silent about a sexual encounter she had with Trump in 2006.

The former president's personal lawyer Michael Cohen has said Trump directed hush payments to Daniels and to a second woman, former Playboy model Karen McDougal, who also said she had a sexual relationship with him. Trump has denied having affairs with either woman.

Federal prosecutors examined the Daniels payoff in 2018, leading to a prison sentence for Cohen but no charges against Trump.

No former or sitting U.S. president has ever faced criminal charges. Trump also faces two criminal investigations by a special counsel appointed by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and one by a local prosecutor in Georgia.

Politics / Re: Mc Oluomo Bans Illegal Agbero Taxes In Part Of Lagos, Following Protest by N2B2: 9:45pm On Mar 30, 2023
“Mc Oluomo told us this afternoon when we held a meeting with him at the state council that no driver from Oshodi to Tollgate must be compelled to pay illegal agbero taxes anymore,” he told FIJ.

We are only to buy two tickets in a day, after which we will not pay anything aside from loading fees.

Mc Oluomo is not an elected public official, neither is he a law enforcement agent, yet he extorts Lagosians uncontested and commands great power & influence in Lagos — thanks to ruling party's chronic corruption.

Politics / Re: What Constitutes Ethnic Slur On Nairaland? by N2B2: 12:02pm On Mar 30, 2023
Penguin2:
About 3 days ago, Seun made a commendable effort towards bringing sanity back to Nairaland by announcing the ban on ethnic slurs which is what has hitherto made Nairaland a very notorious platform for propagation of ethnic hatred and what not.

However, his article was vague as it did not enunciate what constitutes ethnic slurring, the words, phrases or sentences that could be adjudged as such.

So, I write this to seek clarification, both for myself and for others who might want to know so that we can be properly guided.

They say ignorance of the law is not an excuse, but I also think the law should not be deliberately hidden or made vague and ambiguous and left only to the judge to interpret as he wills.

So, what constitutes ethnic slur on Nairaland?

Don't bother. The NL mods haven't figured it out yet.

The ban was a hurriedly-enacted effort to feign neutrality after allowing tribalist trolls to run rampant for the entirety of the elections.

Now that the national exercise is over, it's back to "we love the Igbo people" and "One Nigeria" so that the NL userbase will not reduce.

It is well.

The DSS has identified some key players in the plot for an Interim Government in Nigeria.

Which players? Why has the DSS not named & shamed these so-called perpetrators?

Do you now understand why no one takes the agency seriously? The DSS is nothing more than a propaganda arm of the ruling party, only capable of arresting people who criticize the government. Now, it's spreading fake allegations to cause panic and dissuade the political parties in court lawfully seeking redress over the just-concluded election.

Politics / U.S. To Place Visa Restrictions On Individuals Who Undermined Nigeria's Election by N2B2: 7:27pm On Mar 21, 2023
MARCH 21, 2023

Nigeria carried out the second round of its electoral process with gubernatorial and state assembly elections on March 18. The United States is deeply troubled by the disturbing acts of violent voter intimidation and suppression that took place during those polls in Lagos, Kano, and other states. Members of the U.S. diplomatic mission observed the elections in Lagos and elsewhere and witnessed some of these incidents first-hand. The use of ethnically charged rhetoric before, during, and after the gubernatorial election in Lagos was particularly concerning. We commend all Nigerian political actors, religious and community leaders, youth, and citizens who have chosen to reject and speak out against such violence and inflammatory language, affirming Nigerians’ commitment to and respect for the democratic process.

We call on Nigerian authorities to hold accountable and bring to justice any individuals found to have ordered or carried out efforts to intimidate voters and suppress voting during the election process. The United States likewise will consider all available actions, including additional visa restrictions, on individuals believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining the democratic process in Nigeria.

Following the February 25 national elections, the United States joined other international observers in urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve voting processes and technical elements that experienced flaws in that voting round. The March 18 elections appear to have had significant operational improvements, as polling stations generally opened on time and most results were visible on an electronic viewing platform in a timely manner.

The United States renews its call for any challenges to election results to go through established legal processes, which must not be interfered with. We further call for Nigeria’s people to work together as they participate in and continue to strengthen the country’s vibrant democracy.

You think other Nigerian tribes have forgotten the fact that your Igbo soldiers planned a coup that killed the prominent leaders of all other tribes but hinted their own Igbo leaders to flee. That is the sin that your Igbos sinned against other tribes and why they find it hard to trust you.

Who's reading all this gibberish, Mr. tribal agitator?

You can crawl back from the fringe as your type always do, but remember that the divide which exists today was in the past fomented by the tribalists that came before you — and you and your troll lot have continued the hate-filled tradition.

For me, I lost the interest to go out and vote not because Tinubu won.
No, he was the second candidate who I preferred after Atiku and I somehow believed he will win.

Make no mistake: the election was rigged.

Also keep in mind that, the moment you chose not to exercise your right to vote, the riggers won. They hoped to disenfranchise you enough to no longer believe your vote is valuable; that makes it easier for them to rig.

Nigeria will get there. It may not be today, but the country will get there one day.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What's Your Salary Expectations? by N2B2: 1:17pm On Mar 13, 2023
SMJay:
He rejected the job but someone better took the job at a lower salary.

How do you (or whoever wrote this) know the friend wasn't the better candidate? Salary is determined by budget and the perceived value of the prospective employee.

Your friend's expected salary would only anger you if you believed he wasn't a good fit for the role. The funny thing is — if you met someone you think is overqualified for the position, like an expatriate, you wouldn't flinch at higher-than-average salary requests.

Morale of the story: if you're certain you can over-deliver, and have performance evidence from previous roles to back it up, ask for whatever you think you're worth and watch budgets expand for you.
