Why can't I modify my post post in this section? I mistakenly closed /code with /quote. I meant: setenv auto-boot true -[n3rve] |
Ah, that's expected. TU can't kick you out of recovery when you upgrade using that method. You need libusb installed on your PC (must remove once done or it will generate a BSOD at every turn off) and iRecovery.exe. I use both softwares to establish a shell into the iPhone, execute this command: setenv auto-boot true[quote][/quote]After which, you do a reboot or fsboot & you should be back on. I used that to kick an iPhone 4 out of the stupid recovery loop after I preserved the baseband on 01.59.00; All dandy now |
Tumababa, You couldn't preserve the baseband? How come? Didn't you get the expected 1013 error? -[n3rve] |
By the time iTunes generates a 1013, it's far past the stage of upgrading the firmware itself. I did that when I needed to stay on an unlockable baseband. The 1013 error is more of a success story for jailbreakers/unlockers, l☺l. The thing is that now that you commented out the gs.apple divert (which u shouldn't do if u rely on an unlock), your baseband has been updated to match 4.2.1's BB which is 03.10.01. As such, you can't use that iPhone on an unsupported carrier for the time being. It also reduces resale value, FYI. Anyways, it's a good thing that you're jailbroken now. -[n3rve] |
A 1013, hmmmm, what do you get when you ping gs.apple.com? I think you either used Tiny Umbrella which automatically diverts request from iTunes to a designated server (Saurik's). Anyways, the good thing about that error is that you're already updated, you just needed to kick it out of recovery. It just failed during the bb update. -[n3rve] |
I glanced through the news entry. It's saying that a tethered jailbreak for 4.2.1 (Redsn0w) has been avaiable before the Chronic Dev's Greenpois0n release. There's nothing to worry about, you can safely jailbreak your iPhone on 4.2.1. -[n3rve] |
Mind linking to what you read? I jailbroke mine using Greenpois0n RC5 & used Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to install cydia & hacktivate. I have absolutely no issues besides being on a locked baseband (03.10.01) which has nothing to do with the JB. What your phone's firmware/baseband version & do you require an unlock? -[n3rve] |
What do you mean by "can't last a reboot"? I jailbroke my iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 & I don't have any issues with a reboot. -[n3rve] |
pharuk:For one, you're missing out on the new features. -[n3rve] |
drious:From the README: > Supported iDevices: - iPod Touch 2G (all bootroms) - iPod Touch 3G - iPod Touch 4G - iPad 1G - iPhone 3Gs (all bootroms) - iPhone 4 - iPhone 4 Verizon (_not_tested_) - ___AppleTV 2___ (support will be added in RC6) -[n3rve] |
Yes, forgot to post. I'm untethered now ![]() Still waiting for the unlock though, 03.10.01 -[n3rve] |
Waiting for the Windows version, #:-s -[n3rve] |
Just a heads-up guys, the Chronic Dev Team have released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. This is currently only available on MAC, I hear a windows version is around the corner. Just thought I'd let y'all iFanatics know - I'm about to try this on my iPhone 4 (currently tethered JB'n with Redsn0w). Expect my success stories, I hope. ![]() Note: greenpois0n's servers appear to have been slammed with hits so you'll probably need to source for alternate download links. Good luck ![]() Chronic Dev-Team Releases Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 [Update] -[n3rve] |
The BlackBerry Desktop Manager has the ability to tether, just key in the configuration (APN, username & PW) and you're good to go. -[n3rve] |
Does IWP still work? -[n3rve] |
Bearing in mind that Etisalat will soon roll out 3G, this will most likely come in handy. Thanks for the upload Texazzpete ![]() -[n3rve] |
Those that have problems with the Torch (9800), can you browse now? I got the torch for my girlfriend during the yuletide season, she activated BIS as normal and surfing the web using the browser has not been an issue. Regarding the service book issue, I can backup her service books, use MagicBerry to edit it to remove personal information and host it somewhere for you to restore unto yours if you still can't browse. -[n3rve] |
It seems this died , -_- |
Double N, how's your 3GS now? |
@Ogagusp3 This is suppose to be a review thread, I'm not sure your inquiry is welcome here. What iPhone do you have, OS version? I have that problem too and as far as I know, it's caused by Winterboard crashing, you may want to try uninstalling and re-installing it before evaluating other options. -[n3rve] |
Tumabab walked me through this. I'll probably be restoring to 4.0.2 stock firmware later today since its baseband is unlockable. Thanks. |
You mean iTunes will backup apps purchased from the App Store right? I'm talking about Jailbreak Apps/Themes. |
Why don't you just walk into a shop and weigh your options? Unless you're looking to buy a fairly used one? Checked nairalist? |
Secondly, I have quite a few apps on my iPhone now. Is it possible to make backup copies of these applications before messing around with the firmware. I'll really like it if I could preserve them somehow. |
Hey Guys, I've had an iPhone 3GS 16GB white lying in box & I've just decided to start using it. It's currently jailbroken (tethered) and is running 3.1.2 (7D11), modem FW: 05.11.07. I was wondering if I could do an un[/b]tethered jailbreak now? This is one of the reasons why I've not been using and I'll really like to avoid the need to run limera1n every time the device is shut down. I was looking into this on iClarified and it looks like the untethered jailbreak will only work if an iPhone 3GS was made before or on week40 (2009). I've looked at the serial & it's 889[b]50[/b]Wxxxxx, I guess I'm out of luck for the time being -_- My question is, what other options do I have? Are new jailbreak kits around the corner? It is safe to update to one of the newer firmwares? I downloaded these today: [b]iPhone2_1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw iPhone2_1_4.2.1_8C148a_Restore.ipsw Can I disable the baseband update and upgrade to one of those? |
pharuk:I host the images on external sites like tinypic & stream (use the IMG tags on the forum). -[n3rve] |
This should be in "Technology Market" & why don't you post images of the phone you want to sell? We know how to google "Nokia C3", thank you ![]() -[n3rve] |
Well, I have a friend who hasn't paid for subscription for the past few months. At some point, MTN activated BIS to work with the specific BlackBerry handheld unlike now where your SIM holds the activation and would work if inserted into another BlackBerry. This happened when MTN still activated BIS on the SIM for the specific phone, she misplaced her phone, bought a new BlackBerry & activated BIS for the second time when the previous subscription she activated with the old phone had not expired, since then she hasn't paid a cent for BIS. ![]() |
texazzpete:I was aware of the little changes that were implemented in the 9700 - 9780 upgrade but still decided to go for the upgrade for a couple of reasons: I tested OS6 for a few weeks when the first .344 leak was released & couldn’t imagine going back to OS5, I was way too addicted to the OS. I had no choice but to continue running the leak which was unstable, it ran okay for the most parts but had some pretty annoying sluggish moments here & there, the ‘Pages too large to load’ errors, memory leaks and BBM avatars, not to mention the periodic crash when using the universal search. I got the 9780 ‘cos I had some spare cash & really wanted to run the official OS6 version and fast. Now I’m content that I don’t experience any of those issues and the software feels like it was designed for the device, not being squeezed into the device like it felt on the 9700. However, if you’re not as desperate as me, I’ll suggest you hold out until RIM pushes out a substantial upgrade or until a carrier drops the official OS6 for the 9700. Official OS6 for the Bold 3 (9650) was released today, I expect a 9700 release to follow shortly after. -[n3rve] |
