Crime › Re: Masqueraders In Police Net For Stabbing Job Seeker To Death In Ondo by nabegibeg: 3:55pm On Oct 10, 2018 |
Bilaludeen: MEN of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a masquerader in Akure, Ondo state capital, over the killing of a job seeker, Femi Makanjuola, who was stabbed to death.
The suspects, Olu Olowokere and two others at large were alleged to have killed the deceased around Oke Aro area of the state capital while demanding money from him.
According to a source, the masqueraders demanded for N50 from the young man who was in the area to buy raw beans but he refused to give them money, while three of the masquerades pursued him and eventually stabbed him to death.
The source said Makanjuola who was residing with his brother had just secured a job with Dangote Cement Company, in Benin said “the young man planned to resume work next Monday and he was planning to cook beans on this fateful day when the masqueraders descended on him and stabbed him to death.
Speaking during the parade of the suspect, the State Police Public Relations Oddiver (PPRO) Femi Joseph, said two of the masquerades and their guide, Olowookere, have been arrested by men of the state police command while two others have taken to their heels.
Joseph said the command had begun investigation into the incident and said the arrested suspect has been assisting the police with relevant information on how to apprehend the two other suspects.
He said “All over the world what we know about masquerade dance is to entertain the people. What happened in Akure was to the contrary and absurd.
“Five young boys were on an outing with one of them acting as a masquerader, and they got to where one Femi Makanjuola was. The masqueraders demanded money which the deceased refused to give and this did not go down well with the masqueraders.
“This led to an argument between them and they eventually stabbed the deceased after he had been thoroughly beaten by the masqueraders and his followers. Investigation is ongoing towards apprehending other accomplices involved in the crime.
However, the suspect, Olowokere denied his involvement in the killing of Makanjuola but confirmed that the deceased was stabbed by one of his followers and said “I’m not the one who stabbed the boy, It’s one of the two masquerades that accompanied me that committed the crime.
“They went back to town after the outing which I didn’t authorise them, It is when the police came to my house that I realised what the boys had done. They are currently on the run,” http://surecontents..com/2018/10/masqueraders-in-police-net-for-stabbing.html |

Crime › Re: #FreeBhadoosky: Hakeem Badmus Arrested On Orders Of Cornerstone College, Ondo by nabegibeg: 3:39pm On Oct 10, 2018 |
alfa2016: Nigerian Influencer Hakeem Bhadmus popularly known as Bhadoosky on Social Media was this morning arrested by the Police – The Police men detained his wife and asked that he reported to the scene – He was told by the police when he arrived the scene that he ‘threatened someone’. He was then whisked off to the Akure, where the complaint was allegedly lodged – Investigation revealed that Cornerstone College Ondo, whom he called out for an action against some of their graduating students in July are behind his arrest – Nigerians upon hearing the story have through the hashtag #FreeBhadoosky called for his release, urging the Police to the right thing The hashtag #FreeBhadoosky is currently No 1 on Twitter following the arrest of one of Nigeria’s finest Digital Media influencers Hakeem Bhadmus, better know as @Bhadoosky by men of the Nigerian Police Force. According to a statement by the Digital Media Practitioners of Nigeria(DMPN), Nigeria’s foremost Digital Media body, he was arrested in Ibadan where he resides this morning after men from the Ondo State Police Command detained his wife to lure him to the scene. The statement posted on their official handle @DMPNig reads:
Earlier this morning, news of the arrest of DMPN’s Vice Chairperson @Bhadoosky got to us. From our findings so far, his wife was used as a bait to lure him out of his Ibadan home & he was whisked away by the Police who refused to disclose any specific reason for his arrest.
He has since been transferred from Ibadan to Ondo State where the Police claim he “threatened someone”.
We find the fact that the Police cannot state the crime he is accused of very alarming, but even more, the draconian nature with which he was whisked away leaves more questions than answers.
DMPN hopes that the Police is not being used as a tool for intimidation and harassment of an innocent citizen.
We will love to make it clear that no form of intimidation, harassment or unlawful arrest of any of our members will be treated with levity. #FreeBhadoosky
#FreeBhadoosky: Nigerians Call For Release Of Influencer Hakeem Badmus After He Was Arrested For Speaking Against Ill Done By Secondary School In Ondo
The arrest which was allegedly ordered by Great Cornerstone College Ondo is as a result of a Twitter thread Bhadmus did on July 21, 2018. In the thread, he drew attention of the general public to an occurrence that had happened in the school. Bhadmus narrated with pictures how the school had printed names of students who refused to pay the sum of N5000 for purchase of a 32″ television set for the school. The names of the Students were printed in their send forth magazine as debtors. See embedded tweets below:
What would you do if you find out your child’s name was printed on his/her school’s send forth magazine as “Debtor” because he/she didn’t pay N5000 to buy the school a parting gift? A school you were paying N104,000 per term for six years? Thread
— Bhadmus Hakeem (@Bhadoosky) July 21, 2018
As expected the school received a lot of backlash after Bhadmus’s tweets went viral. Instead of addressing the allegations and making public their side of the story, the school decided to bully Bhadmus and his friend who informed him of the situation in the first place. His friend was arrested some weeks ago, but Bhadmus was arrested today, and whisked out of his state of residence Ibadan. He was taken to the Anti-Kidnapping unit at the Governors office in Akure, Ondo state where the school is located. See some of Bhadmus’s tweets this morning on the matter:
So my wife called me some minutes ago to meet her at UI gate without stating reason. On getting there, I found out that she was with some officers of the @PoliceNG from Agodi Gate Area command. Cc @akinalabi @segalink @BabajideFadoju @WaleOzolua @AAAjimobi @YemieFASH @dmpnig

Since his arrest, Nigerians and members of the Digital Media Practitioners of Nigeria have taken to social media to demand his release, asking the Nigerian Police Force to do the right thing, and not side against a law abiding citizen operating within the ambits of the law to call out injustice.

Crime › Re: Carpenter Arrested By Police, Imprisoned After Being Labelled A Kidnapper. Photo by nabegibeg: 3:02pm On Oct 10, 2018 |
ChangeIsCostant: A man who is alleged to be a kidnapper and was arrested by the police - has claimed innocence of the crime he's being accused of. Last week, the man identified as Mr. Harris Terungwa Magudu, was arrested and paraded alongside some suspects at the Benue State Police Headquarters in Makurdi.
Report has it that Mr. Harris (a father of two children) is a graduate of Industrial Physics from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi and a carpenter alongside two of his friends who were arrested with him on grounds of kidnapping.
Read the report shared by Ukan Kurugh, a philanthropist who visited him in prison as he seeks for justice over the 'unlawful arrest'.
On Sunday, October 7, 2018, I was accompanied by two friends to the Makurdi Maximum Prison where we met with Mr. Harris to hear his story. He has been tortured beyond human recognition and he limped in pain to get to where we sat. The whole of his body is covered with scars and deep wounds that have been left untreated.
He explained that, on or about 19th day of September at about the hour of 8pm, he left his home on Benue State Civil Service Commision Street to get airtime and on his way back, a car was parked and he saw some persons around it. Since it was dark he didn't get to notice who they were until he got too close when they had already pointed a gun at him, slapped him and asked him to lie down. When he lay down, he discovered a woman was also lying down alongside her daughter. They searched him and finding just his phone on him, they took it. They also took the woman in the car and drove off.
Later same night, the woman returned and explained how they took her around Makurdi town in the car and ended up dropping her at Naka Road where she boarded a bike back home. That night, they were later to hear that, another woman had been kidnapped. This whole incidence happened and events overtook it.
About two weeks after the incident, men from the headquarters of the Department of State Services (DSS) Called at his house and inquired to know a few things about him and whether he was missing a phone. He explained the above incident to them and how his phone was lost in the process. They advised him to go and make a formal report to the police about his missing phone and then proceed to block the line. This he did the following morning. He reported at B Division and proceeded to block the line.
About a week after the call of the DSS officers, his younger brother whom he (Harris) had made his next of kin while registering the line that was lost called Harris from the village that his (younger brother) attention was needed by the State Head of Service for an employment letter. Harris's younger brother had been a casual staff of the Benue State Government. So the call made it seem like, they were to be interviewed and made permanent staff. He then urged Harris to call the number and get the letter for him.
Harris in a bid to get the letter for his younger brother walked into the waiting arms of the police, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the IG of Police. There was no letter from the Head of Service after all. It was a bait to get to Harris. Upon discovery that he was the one they wisked him away. The family was lost as to his whereabouts for days before he showed up in handcuffs in company of police officers severely beaten up. They ransacked his house but found nothing as the wife and kids cried. They again took him away.
As he explained this to me and my friends, Harris cried. He said he underwent the torture of his life, that he should admit to being a kidnapper and offering up the arms that they use and mentioning names of his accomplice. Since he couldn't say admit to what he didn't know, they tortured life out of him. They made him wear handcuffs and forced him to squat, forcing his hands to his ankles, fixing a stick across his laps from behind, tying and suspending him on an iron bar up and severely beating him. Harris said he contemplated suicide but there was no way. The forced handcuffs have created deep cuts on his wrists. He has a broken leg and scars all over his body.
His community had come together when they discovered of his arrest and spend a whole day at D Division where he was initially kept attesting to his innocence and insisting that, he should be released. They police refused and later got them arrested and detained for hours as he was later made to understand.
On a second time again, the police showed up in his house with him and acussed the wife of hiding guns for Harris, asking her to bring them. The wife who was in tears brought forth their two kids as the guns she was in custody of. The police shot into the ground in the presence of the kids and removed the empty bullets. They took the family flat screen TV, collected the wife's phone and again left.
They continued their torture on him everyday while also denying his family access to him. They moved him around the police station in Makurdi to spend the nights. He said he has slept at the C Division, E Division, D Division and the Police Headquarters.
The torture became unbearable and there was no way to carryout the suicide he contemplated and the police told him, the only alternative was to admit to the crime. Absent choice, he admitted to what he has never done in his life and what he would never do. His friends with whom they did capentry where also picked and paraded as suspects alongside him. At this point while Harris analyzed, he could not hold back his tears and so we too, we all cried.
Harris was also made to confess before the Commisioner of Police on Camera else there were threats that he would be tortured to death. His body is testimony to the torture he underwent. Since then, there has been no medical attention and he has a dislocated leg occasioned by the torture that has been left unattended to.
When his friends got a lawyer to engage the police, the police promised to charge him to court but never did. It was until a motion of production otherwise called habeas corpus was served on the police that, they hurriedly charged him to court and got him remanded at the Makurdi Maximum Prisons in kanshio where he is.

Politics › Re: Nigerians Petition Buhari Over Locked Shops In Ghana by nabegibeg: 2:47pm On Oct 10, 2018 |
15Ebisco: Delegations of National Association of Nigerian Traders in Ghana (NANTS) and Nigerian Union of Traders Association, Ghana (NUTAG) on Tuesday stormed Abuja, the nation’s capital to protest against continuous locking of over 400 Nigerian shops in Ghana by the Ghanaian authority.
A protest petition which was addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari was received by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora in Abuja.
Presenting the petition, Barrister Ken Ukaoha, NANTS President-General, lamented that the discrimination against Nigerian traders in Ghana dated back to 2007 when they were subjected to paying exorbitant taxes geared towards ruining their businesses.
According to him, the Ghanaian authorities passed a law which compels all foreigners to have a minimum of $300,000 USD in 2007 and later increased it to $1 million USD in 2018 as minimum capital to start a business in Ghana.
He opined that Nigerian traders were specifically targeted as over 400 shops belonging to Nigerians were locked up since July 27, 2018 till date despite their various appeals to the appropriate authorities.
Ukaoha said under ECOWAS protocol which Ghana was a signatory, Nigerians should not be branded as foreigners but a community citizen as long as they are carrying ECOWAS passport.
Regrettably, he said a Nigerian, Mrs Stella Upaleke, had committed suicide, because of the huge bank debts the closure had caused her and still in the mortuary in Ghana.
He said despite the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari who took up the matter with his Ghanaian counterpart, President Nana Akufo-Addo on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York, with a promise that the shops will be re-opened, they have remained shut down.
“The diplomatic relations between the two countries is being threatened with this Ghana behaviour as they are playing politics with means of livelihood of Nigerians in Ghana.
“We have over two million Ghanaians in Nigeria and Nigeria has been treating them well. We had petitioned the National Assembly and ECOWAS on this matter as law abiding citizen who didn’t want to take laws into our hands’’, he said.
Corroborating, Chief Emeka Nnaji, President of NUTAG said that Nigerian goods worth billions of dollars are being locked up with sizeable number of it as perishable.
“We are living in palpable fear in Ghana as they are after our lives. We were beaten and tortured in Ashante region while incredible taxes are imposed on us in order to cripple our businesses’’, he lamented.
Dabiri-Erewa while responding on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari commended them for the mature way the matter was handled and assured them of delivering the petition to the President.
Dabiri-Erewa in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Wednesday by her Media Assistant, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, while responding, said she was worried that despite the assurance of President Nana Akufo Addo of Ghana to President Muhammadu Buhari that the shops will be re-opened, and despite an instruction to reopen the shops on Sept 27, the shops still remain closed.
She said, “Let me advise you to continue to be good ambassadors of Nigeria despite provocation. Don’t even think about retaliation as Ghanaians are our brothers”.
The Presidential aide, who commiserated with the family of the deceased Nigerian trader who committed suicide, led others to observe a minute of silence in honour of the deceased.

Amagite2: Nigerian gay rights activist, Bisi Alimi has talked about with what he went through because of his sexuality.
According to him, he attempted his first suicide at 17. Read as he posted on Facebook below...
"This month 14 years ago, I was at one of my lowest in life (many came along after that). I was hopeless and helpless. I was also contemplating suicide. I was 29. 12 years early as a 17yrs old boy, I had attempted my first suicide, all due to my sexuality.
I am still broken, though I am healing. I still feel that I am worthless and useless a lot of time. I still feel I have no purpose in life, despite what people see. My struggles with mental health never went away, I just became stronger.
Tomorrow is coming out day and we know being LGBT is one of the reasons people like me suffer depression from childhood. Please as we celebrate Mental Health Day, a day before Coming our day, let’s show some love by reaching out and spreading positive message."
