31-year-old Nigerian man, Chimene Onyeri, will spend the rest of his life in federal prison and will pay restitution of $178,374.41 for his financial crimes, U.S. District Judge, Lee Yeakel, said, on Tuesday, in downtown Austin. .

On April 26, Onyeri was found guilty on 17 counts of mail fraud, identity theft, wire fraud, racketeering, witness tampering and the 2015 attempted capital murder of state district court judge, Julie Kocurek. .

Kocurek was in the courtroom both days of the sentencing phase. She is relieved and feels at peace at this time. .

"It's been two years and 11 months and it feels so good to wake up in the morning and to know my family is safe from Mr. Onyeri and his associates,” said Kocurek. .

There is no option for parole in the federal court system. Onyeri’s attorney, Victor Arana, was trying to get his client a lesser sentence of 30 years. Prosecutors say Onyeri has ten co-conspirators who are still awaiting sentencing.

Onyeri admitted to shooting his initial trial judge, Kocurek, in the driveway of her home, but, he denies attempting to kill, or even injure her. He previously testified he only wanted to scare her.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Onitcha Local Government area of Ebonyi Stat, on Saturday, suspended its party chairman, Mr Uchenna Agwu, for alleged anti-party activities, indiscipline and insubordination.


Mr Kenneth Nwali, Onitcha Local Government Secretary of the party, announced this in a statement in Isu, the headquarters of the Council at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting.

Mr Ifeanyi Ezeka, the Vice Chairman of the party, was appointed as the acting chairman of the party in the area.


Nwali said: “His suspension follows adoption of a motion sponsored by Mr James Okafor, Organising Secretary, urging the local government executive committee of the party to adopt an earlier report submitted by a disciplinary committee set up to look into the allegations.

“Executive Committee after a critical study of the report of the disciplinary committee, upheld the report.

“Also the chairman‘s refusal to honour series of invitations extended to him by the disciplinary committee to defend himself is a further prove of guilt.


“In the light of the above, the vote of no confidence earlier passed on Agwu is hereby sustained and accordingly he is hereby suspended from the party indefinitely.

“According to the scribe, the party has taken the decision in the interest of APC to serve as deterrent to others, instil party discipline and loyalty in the area.

“APC wishes to assure every member of the party of its support, cooperation and equal opportunities to achieve individual and collective ambitions and the development of democracy.

“We reiterate our commitment to the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and other candidates of our great party in the 2019 general elections,” the statement added.

The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees panel set up to discuss the possibility of having a consensus presidential candidate among the aspirants will meet with them (the aspirants) and also screen them on Thursday, The PUNCH has learnt.

The 12-man panel, which is headed by Senator Walid Jibrin, is expected to first meet in the morning of Thursday before inviting the aspirants for the screening.

Authoritative sources within the board told our correspondent in Abuja on Monday that all the 13 presidential aspirants had been contacted for the screening.

The aspirants are a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal; Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo; a former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso; and a former Governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa.


Others said to have been invited are President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; a former President of the Senate, David Mark; a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Tanimu Turaki (SAN); a former Governor of Plateau State, Jona Jang; and a former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi.

Others expected at the meeting are a former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido; Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed and Usifo Stanley.


It was gathered that the aspirants would be persuaded to have meetings among themselves and see if they could agree on a consensus candidate.

Jubril, who will chair the meeting, confirmed to our correspondent that the board would meet with the aspirants.

“We will meet them on Thursday in Abuja, but I will not tell you the location.

“We are talking with the aspirants and I have hope that they will all work together for the progress of our party which will make us win the presidential election in 2019,” he said.

It was gathered that the aspirants had, however, made up their mind not to drop their ambition.

A member of the BoT said that the aspirants “do not want to hear anything about consensus or stepping down for anybody at all.”

But another board member said that the aspirants could still strike a deal among themselves before the October 5 and 6 dates for the presidential convention.

Investigations by our correspondent showed that the PDP is looking for a presidential candidate that will be able to deflate the support base of President Muhammadu Buhari in the northern part of the country.
A member of the National Working Committee of the party, who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the party would prefer a candidate that would break Buhari’s popularity in the north.

He said, “We are praying to have a candidate that will be loved by the entire country; a nationalist, who will see the entire country as his base.


“We also want a candidate that is loved by the north, where we have zoned the ticket to. We need someone that can break the support base of President Buhari. That is just it.”

‘Killings, kidnappings caused by injustice’

Meanwhile, Lamido, on Monday alleged that heinous crimes such as killings and kidnapping were increasing due to injustice in the country.

Lamido spoke with journalists after he met with the forum of Southern and Middle belt leaders in Abuja at the residence of an Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark.

He said, “The culture of governance is deteriorating because of the absence of justice, which should be the anchor of governance but it is not in Nigeria anymore.

“That is why you are seeing all these kidnappings, Boko Haram attacks, killings in Taraba, Adamawa, Zamfara, Sokoto and all over Nigeria.

“This country is not being run according to law and order; there is nothing like justice in Nigeria. Therefore, Nigerians feel that this country is not good anymore.

“This government is trying to bury the contributions of our founding fathers; integrity and honesty are not new in our vocabulary.


“Before Buhari there was integrity; there was Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo, Aminu Kano and Nnamdi Azikiwe. These are people of honour and integrity. He (Buhari) has never for once paid tributes to our founding fathers.”

He regretted that President Buhari had breached the constitution by openly declaring that he would favour those that voted for him more than an area where he had fewer votes in 2015.

Lamido said, “More than anything, we are going through a period of injustice. In other climes, he (the President) will be impeached because he said he would work in favour of where he got 95 per cent votes and do less where he got five per cent”

“What is happening now is because this country is sick; we are looking for justice. We want a Nigeria where everybody will feel a sense of belonging, not nepotism anymore.”


The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo, spoke on behalf of the forum.

He said, “Our people are deeply upset by the state of affairs in the country. Our country is at a crossroads where leadership is critical; so we have invited you here to tell us what you have for Nigeria.

“We seek restructuring of Nigeria to address the problems confronting us. We seek answers to how your policies will address all these.”

The Federal Road Safety Commission has said its screening and physical fitness assessment for potential new recruits will commence from September 24 to 29.


The FRSC public education officer, Bisi Kazeem, said in a statement sent on Friday night that the screening would be conducted in all the state capitals.

According to him, applicants are advised to check their emails used for the submission of the applications on September 19 for relevant information.

He said the information will contain details like the venue, date, time of screening and items to be taken along for the exercise.

“Shortlisted applicants are to come with the summary data page earlier received and email notification slip which shall admit them to the screening venue,” he said. He said any candidate without the print out of the summary data page and notification slip for this phase of the exercise shall not be admitted into the screening venue. 

The corps marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, during an interview with News Agency of Nigeria  in July said the corps will recruit 4,650 officers and procure new logistics vehicles to improve road safety management in the country

The corps started the recruitment exercise across the country in May 2018.

So after sending out a tweet to Tim Cook few days before the Apple Event, I wasn’t invited but that shouldn’t surprise you that much, I’m a big bad Android lover, yeah I’m not a hardcore iPhone fan, Lol. I guess he wanted me to watch the event via twitter. Well, I’m happy I watched the event online and I really analysed the 3 new iPhone series because here at techcapon.com, we have all the details of all the products that were launched that day and I’m here to give my verdict. Well, I’m not here to tell you the latest iPhone series is not great, NO. I think they’re fantastic, they have a lot of good specs but as for me, I’m not going to be singing all that praise right now in this post. I’ll do that in another post or better still, leave that to all other tech bloggers but for now let me tell you the top 5 things I don’t like about them.

1. NO FINGERPRINT SCANNER/ HOME BUTTON.

Just the same way Apple removed the 3.5mm jack without thinking about our feelings or our opinions, they gone ahead to remove that iconic round home button that iPhone users love so much which also doubles as a fingerprint scanner. I guess they want to give the phone a new edge-to-edge design but a lot of smartphone users are so used to the fingerprint unlock. The round home button give made the iPhone look very pretty and unique. Now they replaced it with Face ID, meaning you must either use the Face ID to unlock your phone or the old school password feature. How insensitive of Apple.

2. BAD NAMES (XR, XS and XS MAX)

Yeah, you’re not the only one who thinks these new iPhones have really weird names. A lot of us techies do also. I mean what was Apple thinking when they came out with bad names like these ? What kind of naming is that ? XR, XS and XS MAX. Lol, try pronouncing those names 5 times consecutively and see if you won’t bite your tongue. What does XR even mean ? X-RATED or what. I think there are better names Apple should have adopted like the iPhone X Pro, iPhone 2X, or even iPhone Max and not XR, XS an XS MAX. Jesus.
