AutoJoshNG: Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday commissioned eight new computerized vehicle inspection centers in addition to the 10 available centers across the state.
The opening of the centers was aimed at ensuring that vehicles plying Lagos roads meet international standard as well as ensure drastic reduction in road carnage, he said.
The exercise, which would be rounded up today would put an end to human-error prone testing in checking the health status of vehicles on the roads.
The eight new centers are spread across locations in Oko-Oba, Ayobo – Iyana-Ipaja, Oko-Afo, Badagry, PWD, Gbagada, Agric-Isawo and Epe. This newly commissioned centers joined the Ojodu and Odogunyan-Ikorodu centers earlier commissioned in April 2017.
With the centers in place, the government plans to completely eradicate physical inspection of vehicles while the issuance of road worthiness certificate would be hinged on the inspection of vehicles at any of the testing center.
Gov. Ambode who was represented by the commissioner for transportation, Mr Ladi Lawanson said 10 more centers would be commissioned before the end of the year. This is part of the state government’s plan to replicate the centers in all 20 local government and 37 council development areas in the state.
“We’ve taken this route to ensure that unlike what happened between 2013 and 2016, when over 416 lives were lost to road crashes and 2,498 injured. Research has however proved that the road crashes on our roads are as a result of human errors which has proved to be responsible for 90% of accidents while mechanical and environmental factors account for only 10%. Today we are proud to say that since the inauguration of the two centers at Ojodu and Ikorodu, 93,768 vehicles have been taken there between April 2017 and December 2017. To this effect, 53,970 vehicles passed, 39,798 failed and 29,977 of those that failed had a retest and passed. It is noteworthy that over 60% of the vehicles that failed was as a result of faulty brakes while others failed due to issues relating to lighting, suspensions, tyres and so on.”
The Managing Director of the Lagos State Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS), Prince Segun Obayendo said each of the centers has capacity to inspect 80 vehicles per day.
He commended the governor for putting in place the safety infrastructure which he described as a project to save lives.
“This is about doing the right thing to get the right result by checking the health status of our vehicles. Unfortunately, we have not been doing this in the country, we have compromised on this,” he said.

I'm a single mum to a 2.5 yo girl and I'm about to turn 39. My baby's father is out of the picture. He bailed on me while pregnant and only came back after 2 years and me taking him to court. Now he wants to "take things where we left them" but my understanding and gut feeling is he just wants free passes with me.
I made so many mistakes with my dating life that I find myself in this horrible position of being a single mother about to hit the big 4.
I have a great job, a career, enough money to be comfortable, a wonderful child, family and friends but I still feel lonely and depressed at times. I neve envisioned this life for myself and never imagined never marrying.
I've been working on myself, working out, finding new hobbies, building up my self confidence but I don't know how in the world I would or could find a man.
Is there any chance someone like me could find a decent man to share my life with ?
Dont fall victim of ritualist and kidnappers oooo

BoneBlogger: A Nigerian lady has got herself trending yet again after revealing why she's not a wife material. The social media influence, Angela Nwosu took to Facebook to share her reasons as she smoked shisha.
Read her lengthy piece below;
I am not a Wife Material!
All of the pictures I’ve seen on social media depicting wife material are of women cooking alone, doing all of the cleaning and doing their “womanly duties.” Don't get me wrong, there are two different roles in relationships that one partner will be better at than the other. Me, proudly smoking shisha and not afraid to post it on a platform as big as Facebook, shows that I am not a wife material, I hate that word, with reckless abandon. Girls are forming and pretending, not being themselves, all to be termed a wife material and land a husband living their lives just to please the society and painfully, publicly stand on a morality higher ground, while doing terrible things in secret. The only way I survive on earth is being myself and not what society wants me to be, na only me waka come. And yes, the shisha pot belongs to me.
No, I am not married and no, I am not a feminist, but I’m a firm believer that relationships are a team effort. To make a relationship work, responsibilities of the household must be shared. I’m all for cooking and burning down the house together. This is the 21st century and there are so many more opportunities for men and women than there have been in the past.
Like I said, I’m not a wife material. If I ever get married, I’m not turning into your slave just to be ‘a perfect wife material’ I’m not your mother, nor will I ever be. I’d much rather call in a pizza and watch movies than slave over a meal that requires 3 hours of my time to prepare. If your friends are over to hang out with you and watch the game, I’d rather be sitting on the couch yelling at the T.V. too, than catering to you and your friends. I also won’t expect you to be the only one supporting our family. I’m not broke and Amadioha isn’t taking care of me for nothing, ighotago?
I’m not your typical girl or typical girlfriend, I am extremely different and I definitely won’t be your typical wife. I won’t wake you up with the smell of breakfast, because chances are, if it’s a weekend, I’m sleeping until 12pm. I will probably burn at least one piece of food every time I cook for you and then proceed to tell you we’re going to eat out and do shisha afterwards. For your birthday, I’d rather buy you Play Station 4 that we can play together, than buying or making you something more sentimental. When you wake up next to me, you won’t see Sleeping Beauty. You'll see that my mouth will be dry of no lipstick from the previous day, you will always see my spots clearly, my eyes will be partially open and my hair will look like ike okuko.
I don’t have unrealistic expectations for a husband to be “hubby material,” and I don’t want someone to have unrealistic expectations of me to be “wife material.” I know that people have their faults and it’s hard to live with someone no matter how much you love them. I don’t expect my future spouse to have to pay for everything we have just like I hope he doesn’t expect me to cater to his every need.
Who makes these rules anyway? These rules for what is wife or husband material and what is not? I’m not even “feminizing” here, just wondering why we tend to subscribe to the notion that a certain set of qualities are desirable for marriage. That a girl doing shisha is wayward, an ashawo and a disgrace to womanhood, therefore, will never get married. There’s a statement my mother says “as our faces are different, so also are our needs different”. What Mr Okoli requires in a wife may be completely different from what Mr Okonkwo wants and for Miss Angie and Miss Doris, their list of requirements will also differ by a sharp margin.
Dear future husband, I will be your best friend, your support system, your spouse, your partner in crime but more importantly your ashawo. I won’t be your second mother or your babysitter. And we definitely won’t just exist in the same house. We will be 50+ years old and still be attending concerts, watching Boondocks, while drinking cheap wine and taking spontaneous trips to the beach.

fabinfos: The Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has expressed optimism that the state’s economy will soon record a giant leap with the expected generation of over N70 billion yearly from the state’s Rice City project.
Speaking during the test run of the project at the rice factory situated at the Ayade industrial park, Calabar, the state capital, he said the project stemmed from his determination to free the state from over dependence on federal allocation.
The Cross Rivers Rice is the largest and first of its kind in Africa.
Ayade said the Rice city was one of the signature projects of his administration and will be certified ready for commercial activities in June.
The governor disclosed that the rice seedlings were natural with no chemical, adding that it was time other states and the federal government patronized the facility.
According to Ayade, “When I told Cross Riverians that my ambition was to restructure the state from over dependence on federal allocation, I truly meant it because with projects like this; we are going to generate more revenue for the state…we are partnering with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to ensure that most of the seedlings are acquired from here.”
The governor expressed his delight that the state was on the path of economic independence even “after we lost our oil wells unjustly. We now have an investment that needs federal patronage.”
Ayade explained that should the state enjoy full federal patronage, the Rice City will achieve a yearly turnover of 70 to 100billion Naira.
He thus called on the federal government to focus on the procurement of rice seedlings from Cross Rivers state because, in his words, “we have no competitor”.
He disclosed that everything about the project was wholly local content with no foreign impute, adding that the factory can produce for 24 hours per day.
Describing the project as the biggest rice seedling factory in Africa with a perfect automated irrigation method, Ayade further disclosed that it would employ over 500 workers when operational.
Some state governors, he said, have already indicated interest to place demands.
“The rice seedlings that will be produced from the factory will be called “Cala 77” because it is very natural and totally organic”, he said.
abc115: Government officials, journalists and elated residents of Ogembo (a small farming town in Kenya), were shocked as the Governor of Machakos County, Alfred Mutua; and others plunged into the river while taking a tour of a newly constructed footbridge.
Ogembo residents had waited to have the newly constructed Ogembo Nyakorokoro footbridge inaugurated.
And on Friday (today), the wait was over, as Governor Mutua, aided by the Deputy Governor of Kisii, was on hand to declare the footbridge open.
It turned out that the contractor did a shoddy job, as the footbridge gave way under the weight of dignitaries and villagers who had trooped out to celebrate the august event.
Worse affected was Governor Alfred Mutua, who escaped what would have been death-by-drowning as the bridge collapsed while he was taking a selfie.
Mutua, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and their entourage, which included journalists, had been standing on the recently constructed Ogembo Nyakorokoro footbridge in Ogembo area of the county when the bridge caved in, reports The Star. The governor, the deputy governor, as well as two journalists, fell into the water, before they were rescued.
Mutua and Maangi were pulled out and rushed to Ogembo Hospital in Kisii County in an ambulance.
However, the governor dismissed the report about selfies.
“I have been baptised by River Gucha and now I must build a house in Gucha,” he said, as reported by Radio Citizen.
He reportedly said that he was safe and that he was having lunch at Maangi’s home.
“The bridge caved in after a crowd of those who accompanied us joined us,” he said.
Kisii Communication Director, Maseme Machuka, said the bridge was weak.
The Ogembo post office-Nyakorokoro footbridge was constructed by the Ministry of Public Works as part of the Economic Stimulus Project under the Constituency Development Fund.
“The Governor and DG were unhurt in the incident and they went on to address residents before going for lunch,” he said.

Neyoor: Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has declared that it has discovered fake notes totalling the sum of N22 million during a 'stop and search' operation aimed at stemming criminality in the state.
While parading the suspects before newsmen in Gombe on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Shina Tairu Olukolu disclosed that the men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), intercepted the syndicates of the fake currency dealers during a stop and search operation around Billiri local government area of the state.
The Police Commissioner said that “As I have always said, crime does not pay. These suspects have been dealing in fake currency for so long but the long arms of the law have finally caught up with them today".
He added that “I want to reiterate the resolve and commitment of the entire officers and men of the Command that we will stop at nothing to eradicate crime and criminalities in the state”.
While reacting to the allegation against them, one of the suspects, Sani Ibrahim confessed to Journalists that he became a dealer of fake naira notes to meet his basic needs due to the economic condition of the country.
Sani Ibrahim who looked remorse while talking to Journalists said, “It is not my wish to produce fake Naira notes. It was one Alhaji (names withheld for investigation purposes by the Police) who brought me into this line of illegal business last year when the economy became tough for me and I approached him for assistance".
He further confessed that “We operate in Gombe and Nasarawa states because that is where we have people who trade in our fake currency”.
Commissioner of Police assured that full-scale investigation is going on to track down all those involved in the criminal acts pointing out that as soon as possible they will be arraigned.
Shina Olukolu also used the medium to warn politicians in the state to shun political violence as the Police will not tolerate any form of malpractices in the scheduled state congress of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) which is holding on Saturday in the state.
He advised anyone who does not have any business in the conduct of the exercise to steer clear of the venue warning that anyone caught causing a breach of the peace will not be spared by the Police.
The Federal Government has faulted claims by the Lagos State Government that a Federal High Court had shut down the Ikoyi marriage registry, insisting that the report was false.
The Ministry of Interior said that the court, presided over by Justice Chuka Obiozor, simply upheld the judgment of a Federal High Court delivered in 2002, which was not appealed.
It explained that the case, Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1760/16, between Egor Local Government Area, Edo State and three others Vs. Ministry of Interior & others, cited by the Lagos State Government, was actually struck out by Justice Obiozor in his judgment delivered on April 30, 2018.

The Director of Legal, Ministry of Interior, Bola Odugbesan, made the clarification in a statement in Abuja on Friday, in reaction to a press statement on Thursday by the Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Bisi Olufuwa.
Olufuwa had claimed that Lagos State had secured a court injunction restraining the Ikoyi registry from conducting marriages.
Dismissing the claims, Odugbesan presented a copy of the judgment by Obiozor, who described the case as “an abuse of court process” and struck it out.
Checks by our correspondent also showed that the Lagos State Government was not a party to the suit.
Clarifying what transpired in the suit, Odugbesan said, “In the case, the court was invited to interpret the provisions of the Constitution conferring on local governments the powers to register marriages.
“The Minister of Interior, through his Counsel, Bola Odugbesan, argued that under item 61 of the Exclusive List, matters connected with marriage under the Marriage Act, issuing of marriage certificate and its registration are outside the purview of state and/or local governments.”
“The Federal High Court in its judgment dated April 30, 2018, struck out the case of the plaintiffs, i.e., Egor LGA & Ors.
“The court held that the case is an abuse of the court process in view of the earlier judgment of the court in 2002, which upheld the sanctity of the rights of the minister to issue licences to places of worship to conduct marriages, and the registrar under the Marriage Act to register marriages.
“It is instructive to note that Lagos State was not a party in the case,” the director explained.
Odugbesan insisted that the Federal High Court never ordered the closure of Ikoyi Marriage Registry, as claimed by Olufuwa.
engineerboat: Shocker: FG Turns Accused to Witness Against Dasuki… Court Grants Another Bail to Ex-NSA
In a desperate bid to get at a former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Muhammed Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) at all cost, the Federal Government has confirmed that it was turning a co-accused in his trial Salisu Shuaib for a witness to give evidence against him.
For the second time in 24 hours, the Federal Government brought a 25-count amended charge against Dasuki but he was granted another bail by Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf of an Abuja high court after denying all the charges.
Dasuki who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, was re arraigned along with a former Minister of State for Finance, Badhir Yuguda, former Sokoto State governor, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, his son, Sagir Dalhatu and their family company, Dalhatu Investment Limited.
However, like the charge of Wednesday, former Director of Finance and Supply in the Office of NSA under Dasuki, Mr Salisu Shuaib, was dropped from the list of accused persons. Counsel to federal government, Mr Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), confirmed to newsmen that after the examination of the report of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the alleged money diversion, it became imperative to drop Shuaib from the charge.
Jacobs said that instead of being a co-accused person, the former Director of Finance will now be used to as a witness to testify for Federal Government in the trial of the five defendants. Like the re-arraignment of Wednesday, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf ordered that the five defendants should continue to enjoy the bail granted in 2015 when they were first arraigned on the alleged offense.
Part of the charge against Dasuki was that he misappropriated and engaged in alleged criminal breach of trust by dishonestly transferring the sum of N3.5billion into the account of Dalhatu Investment Limited, an offense punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code. Yuguda was alleged to have dishonestly misappropriated a whooping sum of $9.8million, an equivalent of N1.9billion and another N200million he allegedly transferred to the bank account of Jabbama Ada Global Services, an offense punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Act. On their part, Bafarawa, Sagir and Dalhatu Investment were charged with dishonestly receiving the sum of N4.6billion from the Office of Col Dasuki, an offense punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
Aside the five defendants, prominent politicians were named in the charge as beneficiaries of the alleged Public fund diversion. They are a former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, former Chairman of the defunct National Republican Convention, Chief Tom Ikimi and one Robert Azibola, a cousin of Former President Jonathan as well as former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
However, all the five defendants pleaded not guilty to the amended charge dated May 11, 2018 and signed by Mr Chile Okoroma, Director of Legal and Prosecution Department of the EFCC. Meanwhile, Justice Baba-Yusuf has adjourned trial of the defendants to July 9 and 10.
