Politics / Endsars: Lagos Judicial Panel Report ‘ll Be Made Public, Fully Implemented-sanwo by NadiaR(m): 12:09am On Oct 22, 2021 |
Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has assured citizens that the white paper on the final report of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution would be made public and fully implemented in due course. Sanwo-Olu said the State Government would not make any attempt to cover up the recommendations of the panel, whether it is in its favour or not, stressing that the panel report would be helpful in strengthening true reconciliation and preventing re-occurrence of violence in the State. He said it had been tough for the state government in the rebuilding Lagos project aftermath of devastating destruction on Lagos. The governor made the remarks, Thursday, while addressing participants at the 10th National Council On Lands, Housing and Urban Development, held in Ikeja, with Minister of Works and Housing and former Governor of Lagos, Babatunde Fashola in attendance. The theme of the conference was tagged; “Housing Development as a Catalyst For Job Creation, Social Inclusion and Economic Development.” Sanwo-Olu, who seized the opportunity to comment on the #EndSARS saga and first year memorial reflected on the arduous task of rebuilding the state, one year after the state was hit by a wave of arsonist attacks resulting from #EndSARS protests. Recall that Lagos recorded a huge loss in assets and resources, following the violence that trailed the protest, as public transportation infrastructure, court buildings, police stations, private properties and iconic assets were razed by arsonists on October 21, 2020. Sanwo-Olu explained the panel was set up to look into allegations of human rights abuses against the police and also determine the cause of coordinated attacks on Lagos, noting that the panel’s final report would be fully implemented. The panel had only concluded its sittings last Monday, after 12 months it was constituted and submitted reports and recommendations to Mr Governor for further action. According to Sanwo-Olu: “The panel concluded its sittings about three days ago and has asked for time to put the reports together behind closed doors. We do not know the content of the report, but we want to say publicly that, upon the handover of the report, we will be making it public. We will not cover up anything. “This is not who we are and that is not what our Government stands for. We will make full disclosure of whatever recommendations that the panel will come up with. I assure citizens of Lagos that we will not leave anything to chance.” On the arrest of protesters at the Lekki Tollgate on Wednesday, the Governor announced that he had ordered an unconditional release of those detained by the police, except one person who was caught with dangerous weapons at the scene. Sanwo-Olu continued: “Yesterday (Wednesday), we saw a protest in Lagos and everybody that was arrested in connection with the protest have all been released, except an individual that was caught with dangerous weapons and who confessed to the police that he joined the protest to cause mayhem.” He however, commended the police for being alive with its responsibility to identify and isolate troublemakers from among law-abiding people who conducted themselves in line with the laws. Sanwo-Olu, also encouraged the youths to be stakeholders in the development of the state, while reiterating his commitment to reconciliation. Speaking on the rebuilding effort, the Governor said the destruction had slowed down operational activities of the affected public institutions, but stressed that the state government would not shy away from its responsibility to rebuild the facilities and restore their operating capacity. Sanwo-Olu stated: “It is exactly a year ago today when Lagos was hit by violence in the aftermath of the EndSARS protests. Lagos witnessed massive destruction of infrastructure, iconic buildings, transport infrastructure, police station and others. “Today being a year after the event, there is no better time to say how difficult it has been for us as a state and how committed it has been for us. “As tough as it is, the Government will certainly not shy away from its responsibility. We see the incident as a challenge and we will fix it with everything that we have.” Source: Vanguard Mynd44 |
Business / FG Begins Training Of 1,850 Persons On POS Business by NadiaR(m): 12:01am On Oct 22, 2021 |
*Beneficiaries to get N20,000 start-up capital, fingerprint machines, kits, others The Federal Government, Thursday, flagged off a programme aimed at training a total of 1,850 youths selected across the country on mobile money making business, otherwise known as Point-of-Sale (POS). The training will enable target beneficiaries to meet the minimum technical and business requirements for becoming mobile money agents and enhance their entrepreneurial competences to successfully start and manage mobile money businesses. The gesture, being carried out under the Mobile Money Agents Programme, introduced in 2020 to sustain the social inclusion agenda of President Buhari’s administration, would see the beneficiaries provided with a start-up Kits that include a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, fingerprint scanner and furniture (chairs, tables and umbrellas) as well as a modest capital of N20,000.00. Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Forouq, speaking in a keynote address she presented at the occasion, held in Abuja, explained that gesture was part of President Muhammdu Buhari’s administration to lift 100 millions Nigerians out of poverty in ten years. According to her, ”Since the inception of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration in 2015, the Federal Government has paid more attention to promoting the plight of the poor and vulnerable in the country despite the economic slump the administration inherited.” “This informed the decision to initiate the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) as a strategy for enhancing social inclusion. NSIP is one the largest social protection programmes in Africa with over $1billion earmarked annually to cause positive change in the lives of the poorest and most vulnerable in the country,” she explained. Farouq said, ”Since its introduction in 2016, the prorgramme has impacted positively on the lives of the poor and vulnerable in Nigeria”, adding:” I have personally witnessed the life-changing experiences of people who lived below the poverty line and those that are vulnerable to shocks.” Noting that, ”Over 12 million households have benefitted from NSIP interventions in the last five years”, the minister said: ”With the creation of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development by President Buhari in 2019, and the able leadership of the Honourable Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, these programmes are being restructured and revamped to respond to peculiarities of different parts of the country, to ensure the right beneficiaries are targeted, and to enhance impact on target beneficiaries.” ” In view of the life-changing experience of beneficiaries of NSIP, President Buhari has graciously approved the expansion of the programme to touch more lives and lift more Nigerians above the poverty breadline,” she further explained. Hear the minister: ”It is consistent with the President’s, now national, vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years. “The programme is designed to kit/tool unemployed youths and develop their competences to operate as registered mobile money agents. “The training we are starting today will enable target beneficiaries to meet the minimum technical and business requirements for becoming mobile money agents and enhance their entrepreneurial competences to successfully start and manage mobile money businesses.” According to her, ”Upon completion of the training, the target beneficiaries be registered with the Shared Agency Network Expansion Facility (SANEF) as Mobile Money Agents and be provided with a Stat-up Kits that include a Point-of-Sale (POS) Machine, Fingerprint Scanner and Furniture (chairs, tables and umbrellas) as well as a modest capital of N20,000.00.” ” We hope that the programme will provide job opportunities to the 1,850 youths selected from the 36 States and FCT as well as promote financial inclusion, by providing financial services to unserved and underserved Nigerians,” she said. According to her,” It will also enhance the integration of NSIP by enabling target beneficiaries to join the network of agents providing financial-related services under other components of NSIP (especially the conditional cash transfer and the grant for vulnerable groups) as well as in the enumeration/enrolment of target beneficiaries.” While thanking SANEF in ensuring that this event was successful, she said: ”The Ministry is implementing the Mobile Money Agents programme in partnership with SANEF. “ “This will enable the registration and onboarding of target beneficiaries upon completion of the training. We also deeply appreciate the support of other stakeholders and their contribution to the realization of Mr. President’s to lifting Nigerians out of poverty. “The training programme is commencing in Akure, Ondo State and Calabar, Cross River State. It will also commence in Kano, Kano State, Bauchi, Bauchi State and Nsukka, Enugu State next week. It is my honour to therefore formally declare the Mobile Money Agents training programme in Abuja for the 350 beneficiaries in the Federal Capital Territory and the six states in the North-Central geopolitical zone open,” she explained. Family / Please I Need Urgent Advice by NadiaR(m): 3:56pm On Oct 06, 2021 |
Good day NairaLanders! Please I need advice on an urgent matter. I and my fiance have been together for two and half years now. We've been through thick and thin for that period of time, I mean things I can't say here but if any of my close friends or family is reading this, they would understand. Now we are planning on getting married soon our introduction is dated December this year. But the main concern now is that we just did our genotype few weeks back and it was confirmed that we are both AS. At first I thought we could go ahead and make it work probably follow one of the solutions I found online (Fetus test or IVF) but looking at our financial status, we can't afford any of the two. We've both discuss on what to do and found out separation will be the best but looking at everything, it is hard for us both or should I say it's harder for me to let her go. At this point, I am calling on the doctors, nurses and those who have experience to advice me on what to do. Cc: RoyalRoy please help push to front page |
