JAMB has fixed 1st July for 62,140 Candidates to Rewrite the 2017 UTME. The previous results of these candidates have therefore been cancelled. This was confirmed by The registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, at a press briefing after the board's management meeting in Abuja.

The 62,140 cancelled results include 57,646 candidates in centres-induced malpractice, cry 3,811 late registration, and 683 candidates who had biometric challenges. sad

He also explained that the rescheduled examination was for candidates of centres with mass malpractice, but the candidates were deemed innocent.

48 centres have therefore been banned from conducting any future JAMB exam, as a result of gross technical deficiencies, extortion from candidates, organised examination malpractice and other damaging infractions, as concluded by JAMB.

24 other centres were suspended from next year's JAMB for not meeting expectations required for the success of the exam in their centres.

We believe the candidates to re-write their exams will be duly notified via email, and may be required to reprint their JAMB Exam Slip in due time.

Congrats to all those who now have their results, as we await the 2017/2018 Admission Screening Process. grin

Education / JAMB To Conduct Mock Exam Before 2017 UTME- Over 1.7 Million Will Sit For The Ex by Naijabams(m): 6:12am On Feb 15, 2017
The Joint Admission Matriculation Board has made known to the general public that the body is working with the possibility of conducting a “mock examination” not only to test its preparedness with the new technology, but also to examine some people that are desirous of knowing their competence with the JAMB examination.

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar on Tuesday while briefing the press after a meeting with the stake holders said that the body would soon commence the sale of the application form for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination(UTME).

Over 1.7 million candidates are expected register and sit for the Computer Based Test (CBT) across the country, adding that they are also increasing the capacity of the CBT centres to maximise their effectiveness to examine more candidates within a given date.

According to him “We are expecting 1.7 million candidates and we want to make sure we satisfy these candidates within a week or there about. That is why we are increasing the capacity of the Computer Based Test centres to be able to examine more candidates within a given date
“If we are talking about 1.5 million candidates, it means that in a given day about 60,000 or 70,000 candidates will take the examination.

“We have invited stakeholders to critique the process because we don’t want to go in the wrong direction. We are creating some ICT facilities and we want our stakeholders, prospective candidates, respected scholars, institutions, civil societies to come together and critique what we are doing, so that we can be sure, before we go too far in a wrong direction.

“This is with a view of harvesting good ideas that could improve what we are doing. We thought we are coming here to get dismantled, all we have put together, but what we are having are cheers that we can do it this way, or amend it that way.

“I must be frank with you, I cannot promise hitch free examination because we are testing certain things. We are changing certain things. We want to question the status quo and of course, we expect a fight back by interest that will be trampled upon. grin

“We are going to be as sincere as possible in the direction we are going. We are going to be as flexible as humanly possible. We are not promising hitch free examination.
“We envisaged that there will be hitches here and there, but they will not be insurmountable. Rather than promising the nation hitch free examination, we will be promising a direction we will all be pleased with.

“Initially there might be hiccups and of course one would not have been appointed if it is routine. I believe that I have been given a very difficult job and that is why I’m promising that it will be all smooth,” Oloyede said. undecided

Education / Jamb Candidates Should Not Choose Unauthorized Courses In Specialized Varsities by Naijabams(m): 9:03am On Jan 10, 2017
The Federal Government has warned specialized institutions in the country, which have been running programmes that are not in conformity with their mandates, to stop such with immediate effect.

In a statement on Sunday, the government directed that such universities should stick to their core mandates for which they were set up and desist from running programmes which have no bearing to their names and foundation.

It described as unfortunate a situation where universities of agriculture offered programmes in Law and management courses such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, among others, and most of these institution go as far as changing the nomenclature of the courses, a situation where they have now have Banking Engineering, Accounting Technology among others.

The statement by the spokesman for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had directed JAMB “to delete all such courses on its portal.”

He added that all candidates desirous of sitting the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the statement advised, “should not be hoodwinked into such programmes as they are illegal and are not provided for in JAMB brochure.

He described specialised universities as those set up to pursue specific courses and programmes to generate manpower in particular sectors of the economy.

He said, “Some of these specialised institutions include universities of agriculture, universities of technologies and universities of medicine, amongst others.

The Federal Government has observed that these institutions have derailed from their statutory responsibilities, thereby running programmes that are antithetical to their mandates.

The government notes the unfortunate situation where Universities of Agriculture offer programmes in Law, management courses such as Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, among others.

Foreign Affairs / Former Cuban Leader, Fidel Castro, Is Dead by Naijabams(m): 10:13am On Nov 26, 2016
Fidel Castro, the Cuban revolutionary leader who built a communist state on the doorstep of the United States is dead.

Mr. Castro, who for five decades defied U.S. efforts to topple him, died on Friday at the age of 90, state-run Cuban Television said.

Mr. Castro had been in poor health since an intestinal ailment nearly killed him in 2006 and he formally ceded power to his younger brother, Raul, two years later.

It was Raul who announced his brother died on Friday evening.

Mr. Castro took power in a 1959 revolution and ruled Cuba for 49 years with a mix of charisma and iron will, creating a one-party state and becoming a central figure in the Cold War.

He was demonized by the United States and its allies but admired by many leftists around the world, especially socialist revolutionaries in Latin America and Africa.

Castro transformed Cuba from a playground for rich Americans into a symbol of resistance.

He fended off a CIA-backed invasion at the Bay of Pigs in 1961 as well as countless assassination attempts.

His alliance with Moscow helped trigger the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, a 13-day showdown with the United States that brought the world the closest it has been to nuclear war.

He swept away capitalism and won support for bringing schools and hospitals to the poor.

Education / ASUU To Embark On One Month Additional Strike by Naijabams(m): 9:51am On Nov 22, 2016
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has instructed its members nationwide to commence a one-month additional warning effect strike to begin from Wednesday, November 23 to protest the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the Federal Government.

The union stated that the strike action will be “total and comprehensive”, adding that there would be no teaching, examinations and attendance of meetings in any of its branches while the strike lasted.

Reports also noted that the union would be going on strike over part payment of salaries, non-payment of subventions and the inability of the Federal Government to provide funds for the revitalisation of public varsities, among other reasons.

The National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, while unfolding the plans for the protest, at a press conference after its emergency National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, on Monday, said several efforts to get the government to respect the terms of their agreement has proved abortive.

This failure puts ASUU leadership in a severe difficulty responding to enquiries from members of the union about the state of affairs in our engagement with the Federal Government. Following a nationwide consultation with our members, the NEC of ASUU rose from its meeting on Sunday, November 20 with a resolution to embark on a one- week warning strike starting from Wednesday November 23 2016.

Crime / Christians Sentenced To 80 Lashes By Sharia Court For Drinking Communion Wine by Naijabams(m): 10:03am On Nov 19, 2016
A Sharia court in Iran has sentenced three Christians; Yaser Mosibzadeh, Saheb Fadayee and Mohammed Reza Omidi, to 80 lashes of the cane each, after finding them guilty of blasphemy for drinking Holy Communion wine during communion service.
The trio converted from Islam to Christianity earlier this year and were said have consumed alcohol during a Holy Communion service which Iranian authorities said was against the principle of the Sharia Law.
The trio were later arrested at a house church gathering in Rasht, Iran, and charged to court by Iranian authorities for consuming alcohol.

Mosibzadeh, Fadayee and Omidi spent weeks in prison before finally being released on bail, but will now be subjected to the cruel punishment of being flogged in the public after being found guilty by Islamist judges.

Security agents also raided the home of their pastor Yousef Nadarkhani and his wife Fatemeh Pasandideh and arrested them at the same time, but they were not detained

According to reports, it is not illegal for Christians to drink alcohol in Iran but under Islamic law, Muslims are forbidden from drinking or converting to Christianity because the Sharia Law sees it as illegal.
