oyibo4real: First of all...Congratulations! Classes are online for now but I have read a few times on the news that schools will be returning to in-class learning by Fall, Trent University still sent me an email to that effect this morning. It’s better you get an apartment in London to be safe except you don’t mind moving again. I also think it’s not wise to go back to Nigeria (except what you are going for is really important) because lectures are online, these are unprecedented times , it’s better to stay put. 6 Likes |

egobetatoday: If you like evaporated milk, most grocery stores carry them and they are very affordable. My kids like the regular liquid milk in bags, I think they are ok too (I’m not really into dairy sha) but that’s the only milk they know since they were born here so I’m assuming they didn’t have a choice. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s an alternative to the powdered milk we take in Nigeria (except you buy the imported one in African store). The only powdered milk I have seen is skimmed milk. Lest I forget, some Asian stores carry naija type of peak milk- it’s not that affordable but it’s not as expensive as the one you get in African store. 2 Likes |

sontelme: Yes you can, just ensure you go with your study permit and enrolment letter ( you can also go with transcripts and any other documents you feel maybe needed) because they will ask for it. I did this too a few years back because I didn’t want to apply for PGWP twice since they will only give me for the validity of my passport . 1 Like 1 Share |

Dameelee: Hi.. no it won’t be a problem. The only caveat is that you need a job in Skill level A B or O to qualify to transfer your status (PGWP) to your hubby. As a student, this is not compulsory, they automatically grant your spouse an open work permit for the duration of your study permit. 1 Like |

Dejavu44: Pls where did you get the info about needing Canadian ID to open a bank account. I opened my bank account with my Nigerian passport and study permit about five years ago. I also used my Nigerian passport and my auntie’s address to get my phone line. Maybe you should apply for your SIN after you have gotten your phone bill. Just wondering if things have changed, I applied for a new SIN (online)May last year and I didn’t need proof of address, they form just asked for an address. |

shadama: I’m sorry, I don’t know anyone that applied with COPR but my knowledge on this process is that you don’t need the Visit visa if you have COPR. But you’re right IRCC can be funny sometimes . Why not try it first and see what happens ? The processing time for visit visa in Nigeria (if you’re in Nigeria) is 8 months, that’s a long time. 1 Like |

shadama: You don’t need a visit visa but you need to apply for exemption letter( your sibling will have to notarize and fill a statutory declaration form and send it back to you, then you will submit this form with your application). Side note, I did this recently for my sister in US (she doesn’t have COPR yet but she has a pending EE application), IRCC approved her visit visa but didn’t approve the exemption letter even when I did everything that was asked. |

mobenjackson: He can use WES for immigration purposes but WES won’t evaluate his degree as a professional degree, hence he won’t be able to claim points for professional degree/Masters. I’m assuming you didn’t read our previous chats, you would have understood what I’m trying to explain. |

DRiches: The Vet will evaluate his degree with the medical body in Canada( he has to research what the body is )to be able to claim points for Masters. He can’t use WES and the likes. |

DRiches: https://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp Simulating their CRS is the first step. The Vet doctor can claim points for Masters/professional degree because of his profession but the Registered nurse can only claim points for Bachelors(Masters points is higher than Bachelors points). The Vet will also lose about 14 or 15 points on age. They also have to max out their IELTS to be able to have a high CRS. If their CRS is in the 470s, they may have a chance with EE, if not they may have to consider other options like PNP. There’s a thread for express entry, I think you will get better answers there pertaining to immigration. Job prospect for RN is great . I know people don’t joke with their pets here, so I’m assuming job prospect should be good for Vet doctors too. I have no idea of the immigration programs for Australia (there’s also a thread for this topic on NL) but I know for sure that it’s a very good country too. 2 Likes |
