Men of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested Isyaku Babale, 30, of Anguwan Dawaki in Bauchi Metropolis, for allegedly stabbing his brother to death.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Ahmed Wakil, made this known in a statement on Sunday in Bauchi.

He said the suspect was arrested following a report received by the Divisional Police Officer, Township Police Station, Bauchi, and detectives from the division were drafted to the scene immediately.

“They rushed the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital but he was certified dead by a medical doctor.

“The development prompted the detectives to initiate a manhunt for the suspect, who was apprehended near Kasuwan Shanu area of Bauchi metropolis.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the detectives revealed that the suspect used a knife and stabbed his elder brother on the March 31, 2024 at about 0400hrs after an argument between them,” he said

Wakil added that the altercation started when the younger brother (suspect) asked his elder brother (victim) to stop taking cold patch liquid, popularly known as ‘Sholi’, in their room because of the unpleasant odour of the liquid.

“Both of them became furious with each other and began fighting. Shortly after mediation, the suspect ran and picked a sharp object, suspected to be a knife, and stabbed the victim in the stomach.

“Further investigations revealed that both men were always fighting using dangerous weapons,” he said.

Wakil said the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident to unravel more motives behind the action of the suspect before prosecution.

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspect over the abduction and murder of 12-year-old Christopher Bala in Magama town, Gumau Local Government Area of the State.

DAILY POST reports that the victim, who was reportedly abducted on March 21, 2024, while on an errand, is the son of a Police officer, ASP Bala Yarima of Gumau Division.

A statement issued on Thursday by the spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, revealed that the Police received a distress call about Christopher’s abduction and immediately swung into action in a bid to arrest the perpetrators.

The suspect, Rabi’u Ibrahim, who was identified during preliminary investigation, was said to have confessed to the crime.

He also confessed to collecting N200,000 ransom from ASP Yarima.

Ibrahim reportedly admitted to strangling Christopher out of fear of being recognised, and burying the body in a shallow grave at Bazale village hill.

“He admitted that, fearing that Christopher recognised him, he went ahead to strangle the 12-year-old victim and buried the body in a shallow grave at Bazale village hill.

“Following established procedures, the Bauchi State Police Command exhumed the victim’s remains. A postmortem examination conducted at the General Hospital Toro confirmed the cause of death as strangulation.

“Subsequently, the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation, following a directive by the state commissioner of police,” the statement said.

A 17-Year-Old Secondary School Student, Owami Visagie, was raped and murdered allegedly by her cousin in Gauteng, South Africa.

The Grade 11 learner was last seen going to extra classes on Sunday, March 24, 2024, and was later found dead at her cousin's house in Refilwe in Cullinan, east of Pretoria.

Gauteng MEC of Education, Matome Chiloane, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, March 27, said he was devastated to hear the news of the pupil.

The MEC's Spokesperson Steve Mabona says the victim was a learner at the Chipa-Tabane Secondary School in Refilwe.

He says according to information at their disposal, Visagie attended extra classes over the weekend, including Sunday.

Visagie left her house on Sunday morning and by 6 pm when she was still not home, her mother filed a missing person’s report.
Mabona says it was established that the victim was last seen with her cousin.

He says by Monday morning they went to the cousin’s house where Owami's body was discovered.

The 30-year-old suspect handed himself over on Monday night and appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Visagie's uncle, Peter Mthethwa expressed disbelief and rejection of the suspect, saying he cannot accept him as family or allow him into their house.

“I cannot accept him as my family. I can't let him in my house. I won't. If the police release him I won't go next to him. I don't want to see him again,” he said. “It's the first time we see this. It's something we never expected.

They were so close that even the girl's mother used to leave him with her when she went anywhere and tell them to wash the dishes when done eating,”

“All he said was, ‘I didn’t do it. He ran away because he was afraid that when the community caught him they were going to kill him, that's what he said."

Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Lt. Col Mavela Masondo on Thursday, said the case has been at Cullinan police station.

He confirmed that the suspect handed himself in to the police, adding that he made an appearance in court on Wednesday.

A 400-level student of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), John Rudeh, has been declared missing.

A statement issued by the university’s Students Security Task Force, SSTF unit said Rudeh went missing on Friday, March 22, 2024, during the stampede that occurred before the distribution of rice palliatives donated by the Nasarawa State Government.

The statement issued by the commander of SSTF, stated that the family of the Student lodged a complaint after all efforts to reach him failed following the fatal stampede.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Emmanuel Okpara for allegedly beating his wife, Patience, to death in the Agege area of Lagos State.

Okpara was said to have physically assaulted his wife on Monday after a heated argument reportedly ensued between the couple.

A Police Source who spoke to PUNCH Metro said Patience sustained internal injuries and started vomiting blood in the process.

According to the source, the deceased’s son, who arrived at the scene of the incident the following morning, found her in a state of unconsciousness and immediately rushed her to the hospital for medical attention.

The source said, “The son of the deceased reported at Elere Division on Tuesday that on Monday around 1am, he received a phone call that his mother’s husband, Emmanuel Okpara, beat her, leading to injury and vomiting of blood.

“When he rushed to their residence on Tuesday morning, he did not meet Emmanuel but saw only her mother. He subsequently rushed her to Orile Agege General Hospital where she was admitted for medical treatment.”

The Police Source said the suspect was later arrested and detained.

Meanwhile, Patience, who was undergoing medical treatment since her admission to the hospital, was declared dead on Thursday morning.

The doctor on duty was said to have confirmed this to the Divisional Police Officer who visited the hospital to examine the condition of the late Patience.

“Unfortunately, when the DPO visited the hospital to check the victim, the doctor on duty informed him that Patience gave up the ghost at about 6am on Thursday,” the source disclosed.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, adding that the corpse would be evacuated to the Mainland General Hospital mortuary, Yaba, for autopsy.

“The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody. The deceased’s corpse will be evacuated to the mainland general hospital mortuary in Yaba for autopsy, and investigation is ongoing,” Hundeyin said.

PUNCH Metro reported in January that a three-month pregnant mother of six, Deborah Fawolere, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Idowu.

The deceased was reportedly confirmed dead after being taken to the Gbagada General Hospital in Lagos State.

A 39-Year-Old Man, Ernest Okporu, has been arrested for allegedly raping his landlord's 11-year-old daughter in Osubi town, Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.

Human Rights Activist, Kelvin Ejumudo, who disclosed this on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, said the suspect is currently cooling off in detention at the Orerokpe Police Station.

According to Mr. Ejumudo, the incident happened on Saturday 23rd March 2024.

"One Mr Ernest Okporu, 39 years of age and married has allegedly raped and defile the daughter of his landlord on Saturday 23rd March 2024 in the Osubi area of Delta state," he wrote.

"I got a distress call from the mother of the little girl and well meaning Deltans that a minor has been raped and defiled. The little girl said Mr Ernest asked her to go bring his charger from his apartment at the back of his fridge and little did she know he followed her and grabbed her from the back, tied her hands to the back and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

"Thereafter he threatened to kill her if she told anyone and then forced her to wash her bloodstained pants.

"The medical reports show that the hymen has been broken, there was penetration and presence of semen.

"Mr Ernest okporu admitted to the crime and was pleading for forgiveness from the father of the little girl. He’s currently cooling off in detention at the Orerokpe police station in okpe local Government council area of Delta state and will be arraigned in court before the end of the week.

"I especially want to appreciate the DPO Orerokpe Division of the Nigeria police force Delta State Command CSP Paul Oboware for his stand on this case to ensure justice is served and will not be swept under the carpet."
