Beijing has long supported Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe despite claims of rampant corruption and repression committed by his government. Today (Dec. 4), Mugabe returned the favor.

Speaking after Chinese president Xi Jinping at the China-Africa summit underway in Johannesburg, Mugabe countered the notion that China is a neocolonialist that is draining Africa of its natural resources:

“Here is a man representing a country once called poor, a country which was never our colonizer. He is doing to us what we expected those who colonized us yesterday to do… We will say he is a God-sent person.”

Mugabe is referring to the wave of Chinese infrastructure projects and loans given out across the continent over the past decade. Critics say these projects have done little to develop local economies and that China is exploiting the region while ignoring conflict human rights abuses.

Zimbabwe, a former British colony whose economy has struggled under Mugabe, has been home to Chinese infrastructure projects for decades now. In the 1980s, China built the country’s National Sports Stadium, its largest shopping mall, as well as hospitals and power stations. China is also the largest buyer of Zimbabwean tobacco.

Xi visited Zimbabwe earlier this week, and the two countries pledged to stimulate Zimbabwe’s struggling economy. China promised to building a new parliament for the government. “Our detractors have sought to portray our relationship [as] purely commercials ties, driven by China’s desire to extract our mineral resources,” Mugabe said. “Our relations go much deeper.”

ENUGU – Following ground swell protests at Ontisha,Anambra State and other states of the south-east geopolitical zone staged by members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra,IBOP,last Tuesday,calling on the Federal Government to release their detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, the two pro-Biafra groups, Wednesday, disassociated selves from acts of arson and violence that culminated in the razing down of Onitsha Central Mosque and burning of some vehicles.

This came as the Inspector General of Police,Solomon Arase, warned that the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, will henceforth, arrest and prosecute persons found to be engaged in the breakdown of law and order by way of protests,especially in the old eastern region.

It would recalled that over 40,000 members and sympathizers of MASSOB and IPOB,had last Tuesday,shut down commercial and business activities in the south-east geopolitical zone in an avowed stance for the creation of the sovereign State of Biafra hinged on perceived injustice,marginalization and neglect meted to the people of the region.

In a statement made available to newsmen by MASSOB Acting Leader, Uchenna Madu which reads in part,”the setting of Ontisha Central Mosque,vehicles ablaze and making of burning fires which depicts violence are not done by the members of IPOB or MASSOB under my leadership.

“This unwarranted acts of violence are perfected by hoodlums sponsored by agents of the Federal Government to create impression that non violence and peaceful pro-Biafra group have turned violent on our agitation for Biafra. Our oppressors are no longer comfortable. There is no evidence of terrorism in our protest. How can we now resort to violence now that we’re told that the presidency is about negotiating with leaders of pro-Biafra group?

“With today’s killing of our members and injuring many with bullet shots,we are no longer comfortable with the presidency’s move for dialogue. Federal Government move for dialogue is hypocritical and deceitful. Any Igbo group,organization and persons negotiating,meeting or dialoguing with the presidency on our behalf without our consent or mandate should stop now.

“MASSOB led by Uchenna Madu and IPOB led by Nnamdi Kanu have never mandated any person to negotiate for us. Even in this persecution,arrest,killings,clampdown,suppression against us by Nigeria Government,we shall continue and intensify our non violence agitation for Biafra. For Nigeria to release their Armed Forces against non violence,defenseless Biafra agitators shows their wickedness and the devilish mind of President Muhammad Buhari against our people.”

The apex Igbo organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, rose from its Imeobi (highest decision organ) meeting in Enugu and called on the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the detained Director of Radio Biafra and leader of IPOB, unconditionally.

However, the meeting, which was billed to hold with representatives of MASSOB and IPOB was boycotted by the pro-Biafra groups.

Ohanaeze‘s directive was contained in a communique jointly signed by the National President of Ohanaeze, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey and the Secretary General, Dr. Joe Nworgu.

They said that agitations and public protests over Biafra had been exacerbated by the detention of Mr. Kanu, the director of Radio Biafra. At the meeting attended by representatives of both the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, in Enugu yesterday, Ohanaeze further expressed displeasure over the continued incarceration of Kanu, saying that it was gravely concerned over current wide-spread public Biafra agitations in states of the South-East and some other states of Nigeria for the actualization of Biafra.

The communique read in part: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural organization of Ndigbo in Nigeria and the Diaspora, is gravely concerned by current wide-spread and public Biafra agitations in states of the South-East and some other states of Nigeria.

“These agitations and public protests have become exacerbated by the detention of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the promoter/proprietor/director of Radio Biafra by Department of State Services, DSS.”

It further stated that “Ohanaeze Ndigbo fears that these developments may threaten the security and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians wherever they may be domiciled, and consequently, decided to summon an emergency meeting of Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo to discuss the situation.

“This emergency meeting was held in Enugu at the National Secretariat of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Sunday, (yesterday), November 29, 2015. Representatives of the various organizations and associations involved in the current public protest also attended the meeting.

“The Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo, after extensive candid discussions and analysis of the situation is of the view that the current agitations are the direct result of the excruciating pain of severe injustice, marginalization and exclusion of Ndigbo from decision making structures in Nigeria as currently configured.

“The Imeobi Ohanaeze Ndigbo strongly avers that the exclusion of Ndigbo in decision making structure presents danger to the unity and well-being of the country, not only now, but also in future, and should be redressed urgently.

Attacking Uwazuruike

Meantime, the movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, also yesterday, lashed out on the leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazurike, accusing him of hypocrisy and deceit over his call for the unconditional release of the incarcerated director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government.

This came as the former Chairman of Police Service Commission, PSC, Chief Simon Okeke cautioned some Igbo elders to “stop making pronouncements that can be very infuriating and dishonourable to the agitating groups . He also urged them to speak out early when youths start derailing, instead of keeping what he called “criminal silence” and subsequently condemning them when things get out of hand.

MASSOB and IPOB leaders after their joint meeting attended by other leaders of the two groups said: “Chief Uwazurike’s appeal was “an expression full of insincerity.”

The groups’ statement made available to newsmen by Mr. Uchenna Madu, and spokesman of IPOB Mr. Emma Powerful on behalf of other leaders, also alleged that “Uwazurike has never liked Mr. Kanu because he (Kanu) is becoming more popular, consistent and trusted by Biafra agitators,” adding that “in Uwazurike’s mind, he is happy with Kanu’s ordeal in the hands of the Federal Government .”

Chief Uwazurike while addressing loyalists and friends of MASSOB who stormed Owerri for the third anniversary of the exit of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, which had Ojukwu’s wife, Chief Bianca Ojukwu, Dr. Fredrick Fasehun and Major Hamza Al- Mustapha in attendance had called for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

“We do not believe in Uwazuruike’s call for Mr. Kanu’s release, just as we condemn the speech at Ojukwu Memorial ceremony where he also said that some people claiming to be champions in their little knowledge, forget that Igboland is landlocked and the five states of South East contribute less than eight per cent of the economy of Nigeria. That is the height of his deceit that he is actually fighting for the actualization of Biafra. It is a statement of somebody that has been compromised, and should not be taken serious.

“That statement was indirectly encouraging the Nigeria government to continue their detention and persecution of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the current Biafra hero. If not, how can somebody like Uwazurike be making such comments and he wants people to take him serious? We saw where he was going and we decided to leave him,” they said.

Discrediting agitators

Chief Simon Okeke, who was the former PSC chairman regretted that some Igbo leaders had been discrediting the youths agitating for the sovereign state of Biafra.

He said: “The war is over, we have all integrated into Nigerian, there was the doctrine of ‘no victor, no vanquished,’ so the Nigerian experiment has been going on. I have served as PSC chairman and even after that, I have been in pursuit of progress of Nigeria, starting with peace and progress in Igbo land. I think we should stay together as a country, but issues of Igbo marginalization and victimization are real. They are there and very glaring and must be addressed, but not with violence and incessant protests.

“Sometimes truth can be bitter, but it must be told. There are certain pronouncements from Igbo elders that can be very infuriating and dishonourable of someone that calls himself an elder.

“I have always spoken aloud, I have always said that our Igbo elders should correct the youths early when they are going astray, but they seem to be keeping silent. Their silence is what I have always called ‘criminal silence.’

“If you see the young ones going astray and fail to speak out, your silence is criminal.,” he said.



Discussing with Buhari

Meantime, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, weekend, revealed that the governors of the South East geo-political zone had taken a decision to discuss issues revolving around the recent agitation by IPOB in the country.

Governor Umahi made this known when he received the leadership of the Abakpa Main Market Traders Association at the Government House in Abakaliki.

According to Umahi, the South-East governors had listened to the complaints of the agitators and had decided to discuss the issues with the President.

“We have listened to the complaints of the boys. There is no way anybody would say that what they are saying is completely outside the truth, but just like husband and wife, you must have a way of getting along through dialogue.

“The governors of the South-East have taken up the matter with Mr. President and I believe that we don’t need another war in this country. I want to plead with you to encourage whoever is involved that we have taken up the matter and we will do everything possible to make sure that their feelings are addressed.

“We should not support secession. We should not support demonstrations; we should not support the castigation of our leaders.”

It was a statement from the heart of the North until Britain called them to order and destroyed the tape. He cannot deny saying so. This Alhaji is at it again.

A shocking yet revealing phone conversation between two politicians has gone viral.

In the audio conversation, which is currently circulating on BlackBerry Messenger and Whatsapp, a Northern politician identified as a People’s Democratic Party member is speaking with another politician from the South West by name, Kunle.

The 20.38-minute audio recording, which appears to have been made by one of the parties or an eavesdropper, the Northern politician, identified simply as Alhaji, reveals the sinister plot of the Northern politicians to attack the business interests of the people from the South East and South South region of the country.

Our investigations have led us to the source of the audio, who does not wish to be named. The Trent can authenticate that the recording is a real telephone conversation that happened just after the inauguration of of President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29, 2015.

Alhaji takes time to reveal the plot of the Northern elites to frustrate people from the South East and South South of Nigeria and revealed that there is a Satanic alliance with some elements of the South West to also join in frustrating the South Easterners and denying them their rights under the constitution to live anywhere they wish and do business anywhere in Nigeria.

The Alhaji reveals that this plan to ‘destroy the Igbos (which means anybody from the South East or South South)’ is central to the strategy of the All Progressives Congress. He also reveals that former Governor Tunde Fashola, of the APC, used the last four years of his tenure in office to execute this plot to destroy the business base of the “Igbos”. He also revealed that the plot includes arson against the markets dominated by “Igbos” in Lagos and denying “Igbos” business licences, even though they qualify for them.

Alhaji, who obviously did not know he was being recorded, went on to reveal a deep hatred by the Northern politicians for the people of the South East and South South. He revealed that if President Goodluck Jonathan had won the March 2015 elections, “they” would have caused Boko Haram to “spread to Kano, to Gombe, to Sokoto, and all over” in order to frustrate Jonathan’s government.

This, in essence, confirms suspicions that Boko Haram and the carnage that the Islamist terrorist group has unleashed on the people of the North East and other parts of Northern Nigeria is a political tool in the hands of the power-hungry elite of the North.

He also mentioned that Jonathan would probably have been killed in office if he remained as President beyond 2015.

Alhaji, who is well spoken, revealing that he is part of the Northern elite made it known that the Northern politicians in the APC do not trust Imo governor, Rochas Okorocha and former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. He says, “they are just there, nobody trusts them”. Such comments are instructive especially against the backdrop that Amaechi is acknowledged by chieftains of the APC to have bankrolled 80% of Buhari’s campaign.

In detail, Alhaji reveals that ‘the North’ preferred former Kano Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso because he is radical and had begin to implement some of the plans of alienating people from the South East and South South from Kano. He said that had it not been for Bola Tinubu’s support for Buhari, Kwankwaso would have won the APC presidential ticket in the party’s primary of 2014 held in Lagos.

Alhaji goes on to reveal some long-standing ethnic suspicions between the major ethnic groups in the country. “Who doesn’t have ancestors? Don’t we all have ancestors?” He asked in frustration. He then went on to complain why attempts to buy land from the Igbos ends in rejection “because the ancestors say they shouldn’t sell the land.”

He also claimed that the gang-up against President Goodluck Jonathan in the last election was also religious. According to him, the Muslims in the South-West teamed up with the Muslims in the Northern part of Nigeria to vote out President Jonathan because he was a Christian who empowered the people of the South East, against the original Northern domination plan of keeping the Igbos under subjugation.

Nnamdi Kanu-led Radio Biafra has announced its presence in South Western State of Lagos.

The controversial station, which recently floated a TV station in south eastern part of the country said the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation, NBC, is down and out after its recent alleged clampdown on them.

Radio Biafra, is known for its constant attacks on the Nigerian government, describing it as a zoo.
In a terse statement released on Thursday, the group called on Ndigbos in Lagos to tune in to 89.1 on the frequency modulation band.

“CHK 89.1 BIAFRA FM is now live in Lagos. Tell Biafrans in Lagos. Another milestone completed.

“We are now in Yoruba territory, they won’t doubt our resolve again. NBC is down and out. The Zoo must fall!”, the statement said.
