Most people normally take blogging as journalism. I wouldn't say that they're totally wrong since the two jobs deal with information distribution. There are many things bloggers can learn from journalists but I'll just put down 4 of those things. 1. Your Posts Should Surround A Particular Niche Most journalists handle a particular news section of the company they're working for. Due to the workload, they are placed on different sections that they can handle. I don't know why most Nigerian bloggers want to be like "Linda Ikeji", that posts about almost everything. Make your name known in a specific niche . If I think of Sports Accessories and kits , I think of Nike, Puma and Adidas, if I think of smartphones, I think about Samsung,Infinix, Tecno, etc. What area will people think about and remember you? 2. Avoiding Plagiarism There are too many CTRL+C and CTRL+V( copy and paste ) bloggers these days who produce no original content but copy from other people without giving credit. Journalists understand the importance of avoiding plagiarism because they can get sued. Bloggers are not exempted from this too. Google is totally against this too . 3.Avoid Misleading Headlines And Writing False Posts A journalist who posts an article with a misleading headline can get fired or punished for it. Some Nigerian bloggers are guilty of this. In a scenario that a farmer takes his chickens in a bus to market and something happens to the bus, an average blogger may twist the topic to " Passengers turn to fowl at Ketu Market". It's quite strange. Although the online community loves dramatic titles and stories, it won't be nice to lose the trust your readers because you made a false post. 4. Have A Post Schedule Articles of most journalists that have columns on their various newspapers usually come up on specific days. It's a good way to keep readers engaged. This helps readers of the column know which day their favorite column would be coming up. As a blogger keeping a post schedule also makes your readers know when to come back and read new posts. Did I miss anything?. Let me know. |

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PyqQCCz85eM/WFBwsIXFzAI/AAAAAAAAGmk/P8jmndldxlw/1481666091346.jpg It's quite possible to make money with your blog without ad networks although ad networks help to boost revenue, but it's always better to have something else that earns you money on your blog. I've run this blog for almost six months without an ad network because I was test running some things. So, here's a quick rundown of ways to earn more money without an ad network. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jsO0EvCcP_Y/WFBws2DL3EI/AAAAAAAAGmo/DN1wd39Z0hM/1481666420580.jpg 1. Offer Other Services On Your Blog Unless your IQ is less than 0.0005%, there's always something else you should know how to do apart from just writing posts and clicking on the publish button. Only do this if the skill you have is related to what you blog about. Don't do it if your skill it's totally unrelated to what you do . It's would be quite absurd to see a Tech Blogger start offering Food Catering Services. You'll end up losing readers trust and they'll be like : https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-jcBGQVIshgw/WFCUnvBNYgI/AAAAAAAAGnI/IQwQgEYCnZs/4597544_44566704454884img20161106195651editjpeg23da48a2b4d9c0d524e67742595fdb31jpeg4cc9b7bf683b5479c95fcbfa69155ea8_jpeg9f81a88ba1b4dd71493a068eb00338ce.jpg If you run a multi-niche blog like an entertainment blog, almost everything fits. On my blog for example, I offer services like logo designing, app development for blogs, website design, etc. All this services help to boost my monthly earnings. So my earnings are not tied down by some ad network's CPC or CPM. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-LHEkiAacVNs/WFCUm_6cbBI/AAAAAAAAGnE/P-vw3OFKBes/1481666675030.jpg 2. Search For Advertisers There’s a popular quote in my country, "if the mountain doesn't come to you, you go to the mountain". There are 2 major stumbling blocks you'll face in this method. A. Where To Search For Advertisers. B. What To Send To Advertisers. Just keep reading and I'll break the blocks to the size of a mustard seed. Waiting for advertisers is just like going to church and the pastor says that you must get an alert this week and you stay at home without going to work, sleeping all week waiting for an alert . You don't just sit back and wait for advertisers to contact you, try and reach out to them. Also make sure that you have a reasonable Alexa rank and traffic statistics. The common mistake bloggers make in this method is going for the popular brands that are advertising in their niche. The possibility of these "popular" brands ignoring you is 97%.. I once tried contacting about 50 popular brands in the Tech niche(most were smartphone brands) but only 4 brands responded after some days . I changed my strategy and decided to go for the starters in the industry. I got an instant response the very first day. If Plan A doesn't work try plan B. Another problem you may have as a blogger is when you want to search for advertisers then you discover that you've hit another stumbling block. "You Don't Know Where To Start Looking For Advertisers" At this stage you've reached a huge block, without help from anywhere or making research you decide to quit the idea with the mentality that advertisers are hard to find or contact. On the contrary, Advertisers are everywhere. Brands are always looking for a way to expand their reach. The first place to search for brands that are advertising are on : A. Top blogs in your niche. The funny thing about most of the brands is that they tend to prefer a sponsored post to banner ads and you have to be really smart to discern the difference between a sponsored post and a normal post because most bloggers who get sponsored posts craft it in such a way that you can hardly notice it's a sponsored post. Once you see the sponsored post, analyze it properly. Google up the name of the advertiser in this format - "contact email for (Advertiser)" (remove the brackets). With this you should get their email. You can also check the banner ads on the blog B. On Facebook You use Facebook every day but you forget the potential that Facebook holds. Facebook is in fact the gold mine of advertisers. 98% of every brand runs adverts on Facebook. Facebook has upgraded its pages in such a way that you can contact the page directly from messenger by just sending a message. If emailing a brand doesn't work try connecting with them on Facebook. Look for the brands advertising in your niche, send them a message and wait for a response. You just hit stumbling block 2. "You don't know what to send" There’s a simple way format you can use to contact advertisers without sounding like a nursery school student. I believe you learnt how to write a formal letter in secondary school or junior high but just in case you suck at letters, I'll give you a little clue. Personally, I send advanced emails and attach media kits sometimes but I'll highlight how to do that later, I won't want to derail this post or make it too long so the people who have the patience of a fruitfly can still learn something. Here's a simple format : Hello Sir/Madam, I am (Your Name), I run (Your Domain Name). My website is focused on (give a brief description of your blog and vision ). I want to work with (Advertiser Name) because I believe that my blog would help boost your brands online presence and products as well. I'm sincerely waiting for your response. Best Regards, (Your Name). Try to sound as professional as possible, you don't go and start asking a brand or it's representative, "How is your family". It's not done. I believe I've cleared all the blocks, you may now cross over without any issues. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y0cA_LP9kSs/WFCUltGmGnI/AAAAAAAAGnA/eSAjxG4WnO0/1481666442099.jpg 3.Partner With Offline Businesses I believe bloggers should also be entrepreneurs . You should understand how social media works and know how to reach a particular audience. Try to reach out to people that have a thriving business and have the vision of expanding their business and taking it to another level. Don't contact pessimistic people. Considering the fact that some successful businesses don't have an online presence. As a blogger you should meet with the owners of the business and give them a detailed explanation of why they should promote their business online. I won't write what you should say to them because I believe that this method is for people that are smart not people that'll go about destroying the reputation of bloggers so you should be able to figure that out yourself . If you have a good audience and traffic you can just promote it on your blog and drop the business number on the post otherwise open a page on Facebook and run an ad for the business and keep your own share of the bounty. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lt-jl6p93yk/WFBwwGKWjwI/AAAAAAAAGms/HXNtm7fES5c/1481666453431.jpg 4.Affiliate Marketing Unless you're new to blogging, this shouldn't be new to you. Here's a simple description of what affiliate marketing is. It's like bringing someone to a store, when he buys a product, the shop owner pays you a certain amount from the money paid for the product . Affiliate marketing works well in niche blogs. The success rate of affiliate marketing on niche blogs is 85.7% against the 37.2% of multi niche blogs . If you blog about tech, sell tech related products, if you blog about fashion sell fashion products but If you blog about everything and you don't have reasonable traffic go and open a supermarket. I'm kidding though, you can sell everything. Don't feel that this post was made by a 30 year old blogger with experience in blogging. I'm just 19 so correct me if I'm wrong.. . I'd love to know other ways you earn as a blogger without ad networks. |
If you want to really enjoy more comments on your blog and make your blog more interactive you must take some things into consideration. 1. Compatibility 2. Interactivity 3. Feed Back It has to be compatible not only with your blog but also different Web browsers plus it has to be interactive and it should be able to alert you on new comments on your posts so you can reply the comments. WordPress default comment box offers all of this. Unfortunately Blogger doesn't offer 1.Compatibility. You can never comment on a blog running with blogger's default comment box from a low end device. You must use a computer or a smartphone which is really bad. However There is a List Of Comment Box Systems that will be of help to you and your blog. 1. IntenseDebate This is the comment box I'm using here on NaijaTechGuy. One thing I love most about it is that it's interactive and most of all compatible with all browsers even low end devices . I don't need to over emphasize much on this since I'm using it on my blog and you can test how it works. To install this on your blog register at http://intensedebate.com and follow the instructions there. 2. DISQUS Disqus Is used by over 750,000 websites even by News Giants CNN. However The ability of the visitors to login with their social networking IDs and features like leaving a video response make it one of the most delightful comments management systems. Although there are many demerits of using Disqus. Some of them are inability of place url or links on names (hence the person leaving the comment can’t be easily traced), and the inability of linking the social media comments and the unavailability of Disqus when its server is down makes it quite inconvenient. To Install This On Your Blog Please Visit http://disqus.com 3. FACEBOOK COMMENT BOX What could beat the social media giants commenting system?. This comment box remains one of the favorites for many bloggers who want to drive more traffic to their blogs from Facebook. The fact that it shares what the user comments automatically to his/her wall makes it a top way to drive traffic and more comments. However Facebook comment boxes have to be installed with app id's for it to work well. For more details and to install on your blog visit http://developers.facebook.com 4.Google Comments Current in the Nigerian Blogosphere this won't be very good as Google plus is yet to get more ground as a social network in the country. However if you aim for global traffic and comments Google plus comments rock. It's relatively easy to set up in Blogger. All you have to do is to enable Google plus comments from your blogger dashboard settings. 5. Livefyre Undoubtedly One Of The Best Out There. The Livefyre community comment, a free comments management system is used by many bloggers and small publishers. Bloggers love this comment system because of its compatibility with social networking sites which means visitors can easily interact with the comments posted in Livefyre comment page and can directly access them using Twitter, Facebook or Linkedin. Livefyre is also available in mobile and tablet friendly versions |

ThePhoneGuy:Where's he based.. |
No problem @ ThePhoneGuy.. I'd check it out.. Brands just forget the bloggers not based in Lagos. Most of my fellow tech bloggers are based in Lagos.. They've forgotten those of us in Port Harcourt .. I will not say anything about the brands again. Till next year.. |
ThePhoneGuy:Thanks for the contribution, but I don't think I've heard of any other female tech blogger. My blog's doing pretty well. I have my own style you can check it out.. NaijaTechGuy.com.. Sometimes it's not always about style.. |

Elxandre: .. Guy wetin sef.. U see her for dream ? |
Congrats to her.. Elxandre considering the fact that I'm a tech blogger I'll let you know some things. In Nigeria, she's unarguably the most popular female tech blogger and the mere fact that she's a lady gives her an edge over we guys. I've worked with a number of brands, I know how some of these things work. Although I'd say Samsung should also add other Tech Bloggers to the advert stuff they're running. Every blogger has their own part in the industry. I'm still a university student running a fast rising tech blog this makes it easy for me to advertise a brands product to other students because I'm in the system. I guess when I get to the stage she's in. I'll have more opportunities . The only thing I don't like about Misstechy is the fact she doesn't reply emails. I rest my case. |
cool
but they dont make 3 times the cost of the phone. its just more than others. also remember apple pays it staff more.
.. I will not say anything about the brands again. Till next year..
