Smartphones have unarguably evolved into an irreplaceable part of our daily lives . Think of how many times do you use your phone in a day? Quite a lot times I guess . With such an important device that's a vital part of our daily lives, I must say I'm quite shocked and surprised by the mistakes and errors people make on smartphones and unnecessarily expose themselves to security risks. Here's a quick list of the most common mistakes people make 1.Not Locking Your Phone It may seem stress to type in your screen lock password or draw your unlock pattern any time you want to use your phone but this is one the easiest ways to prevent unauthorized access and/or use of your phone. Hackers can crack any screen lock security with some given time, but this step gives you a basic form of first level security that will prevent most people from accessing your phone. The best type of security code for smartphones are PINs or more preferably passwords . Screen patterns can easily be hacked. Set your phone to lock the screen after one minute of being idle. 2.Not Turning On The AntiTheft Feature On Your Phone On Not all smartphones come with this but with this option, the phone has a second layer of security. I once sold a Tecno H3 to one of my friends, I forgot that I set the AntiTheft feature on. Even after he flashed the phone, the AntiTheft feature was still in place. He couldn't use the phone until I unlocked it. One good thing about the anti theft feature is that once your SIM is removed, the app will anonymously send an SMS with the next sim card that's slotted in the phone to the number that you selected as security numbers. Once your phone gets stolen, you've got nothing to worry about. Except of course your pictures.. 3.Joining Public Wi-Fi Networks Some people are fond of doing this, joining any Wi-Fi network they see forgetting that this is also a major security risk. Information and data transmitted over public Wi-Fi networks are visible to anybody on the network if they know how to view it. Hackers can easily steal your details and remotely access your smartphone. If you have to connect to a public Wi-Fi network, make sure you're using a VPN like Droid VPN or TUNNEL BEAR VPN . VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and is a method to connect to websites securely . Otherwise, use your mobile data network. 4.Not Having An Antivirus Installed Some people will go to great lengths to make sure they have the latest and most up-to-date antivirus for their PC but the protection for their smartphone is Zero . 85% of most smartphones do not have security or Antivirus apps pre-installed . Only a number of smartphone users install antivirus and other security software. I recommend Bitdefender , AVG and Avast to secure your Android phone . Apple says their By installing an antivirus on your smartphone, you also avoid transferring a virus to your computer via USB which is a common problem these days. Some damaged memory cards may have the shortcut virus that replicates itself many times in a PC as shortcuts to programs but this can be fixed with Smadav PC Antivirus. 5.Forgetting or Refusing To Install Updates Most Smartphone manufacturers use software updates to improve functionality and to fix security gaps. In general, you should accept updates to your phone’s operating system as soon as you are notified. If you don't have enough data try subscribing and updating your phone. The same goes with applications on your phone. Make it a habit to regularly update the software running on your smartphone. 6.Not Verifying Your Apps Before Installing Only few people verify applications before they download and install them. By verification , I mean carrying out some basic research before installing an app. Many smartphone users download and install applications that come packaged with malware that gives a remote hacker root access. Most recently users have been hit with the Quadrooter and Gooligan Malwares. Quadrooter constantly shows pop-up ads and installs apps without permission. All this can be avoided. I think where the problem lies is mainly with Android phones because of the relaxed rules required to host an app in the Play Store. iPhone users are safer due to Apple’s closed wall policy. 7.Clicking On Any Link You See It's generally more difficult to spot a fake login page on a smartphone than on a computer. Furthermore, shortened URLs make it extremely difficult to detect illegitimate addresses. The best way to stay secure is to avoid clicking on suspicious links sent via SMS or instant messaging apps. 8.Jailbreaking or Rooting I know many hard-core rooters and jailbreakers will probably bash me for this one. However, the fact remains that non-rooted Android devices and non-jailbroken iPhones have a certain level of security that limits the amount of access a user has to vital parts of the phone’s operating system. Jailbreaking or rooting gives you access to hidden system settings that allows you to do much more with your phone. Everything comes with a price and the price you pay for that is greater security risk. I'm not saying you should avoid rooting your phone. All I am saying is that if you choose to do that, make sure you know what you are doing. 9.Not Switching Off Bluetooth You've probably not heard of the terms bluejacking , bluebugging or bluesnarfing. These are situations where hackers can gain access to your phone using your Bluetooth connection. Using this method, the hacker only needs to be at just about 30 feet away from you and you’ll never ever know what just hit you. Within a matter of seconds, a Bluesnarfer can steal details such as confidential information and even login data to various sites. So, unless you are transferring or receiving a file, for God's sake switch off your Bluetooth connection. 10.Storing Sensitive Data On Your Phone I don't understood people store ATM card PINs, bank online passwords, sensitive images/videos and other such sensitive data on their phones. If your phone is stolen, it wouldn’t take a geek to know that a four digit number stored as a phone contact is a PIN to one of your accounts. With more analysis , a clever crook can mess up your life. Make sure you check yourself and make sure you're not doing any of these things to save yourself from security risks. 49 Likes 8 Shares |

Everyone and everything has a story. I want to use this opportunity to share my experience with you. It's been a tough but fruitful journey. I'll start from the very beginning so you can understand this story. How I Started I started using computers at the age of 8, and I love anything related to Tech and Gadgets. I always dreamt of owning a website and making it become popular. I designed my first website with wapka and it took me about 3 months to even get it done because i didn't have any knowledge of html. To be honest the first blog was a mess at first but after I got to know about CSS. I began to pick interest in web design. At this point in time, I never knew there was a way to earn money from a website. All I wanted was a platform to express myself. With the web design knowledge i had gotten from wapka, I moved to blogger. Designing my blog was as easy as ABC because wapka already gave me the required knowledge. I opened a news blog but it didn't go well so I decided to move to my area of expertise. Tech. Challenges Tech Blogging is very challenging, I guess this is because most people who come to tech blogs are usually people who need a solution to a certain tech related problem and in order to keep their trust, you have to try to help them out unlike the entertainment blogs where its almost unnecessary for the blogger to respond to comments. You don't just wake up one day and say you want to open a tech blog. If you have no knowledge about gadgets and technology, I'll advise you stay in entertainment. Another challenge is writing phone reviews, this is the part that can really get frustrating for any serious minded tech blogger. In order to keep up with the trends, I have to read the reviews of another blog to write my own reviews. I think this is because I'm not based in Lagos as most companies prefer to send phones to bloggers that are based there. Apart from the device I received from Obi Worldphones via Invicta Africa and devices I've used myself or requested from friends, for any other review I get details from different blogs then compare it before writing my own reviews but I guess it may be quite different if I get to more devices to review as I have my own view of things. Tech Blogging has helped me work with quite a number of brands, Invicta Africa, Obi World Phones, JiJi, etc. in just a Year. What I've Learnt So Far 1.Running a Tech Blog Alone Is Very Stressful 2.Keeping Partnership With Brands Is Very Important 3.Tech Blogs Tend To Earn More Than Entertainment blogs 4.Affiliate Marketing Favors Tech Blogs more. 5.Having a good relationship with your audience on social media helps a lot 6.Being controversial once in a while helps but avoid getting into trouble or posting anything that will ruin your reputation 7.As a Tech Blogger, remember you're not just there to make your money, you're also there to help people. Never neglect your audience. 8. Don't chase potential advertisers away with high costs of advertising. 9. Sometimes schedule posts and take a few days off. Even people working at top tech blogs like TechCrunch get days off. 10. Reduce blogging stress by using an RSS FEED Reader. That's my story. What's yours? I'd like to know. 6 Likes |

kinkonp:it actually depends on the platform your website is running on. I'm working on making Bots for Facebook Messenger. This kind of Bots should be able to handle advanced transactions. Sadly it won't be available till early 2017. You can also integrate Payment systems like 2checkout, QuickTeller, Vogue or Etranzact. Cheers |

Basically, blogging can be stressful but most times the stress level depends on your niche. Tech Bloggers get to do a lot of stressful work, from replying comments and emails to uploading roms and writing reviews of devices. Most comments on Tech Blogs are usually from people seeking clarification about something on the post or requesting for something. I used tech here as a case study because it's my niche. I'm a student of Uniport so I can clearly understand how blogging and school work can weigh you down. Here are 5 strategies I use to reduce the stress. 1. Don't Search For News, Let The News Come To You This is the best way to get latest updates without stressing yourself and going round tons of websites to get stories. An RSS feed reader can help you do this. Simply add the feed URL of all the top sites in your niche to the feed reader. Once there's a new story you get it instantly. No stress. 2. Schedule Posts For The Future Assuming you have a lot of lectures during the week and you won't have enough chance to make posts every day you can simply make the posts on weekends then schedule it to post at any day of the week. Blogger and WordPress have this feature, it'll help you keep your readers updated while you attend to other relevant activities. 3. Let The Internet Work For You You may wonder how you'll be able to share your posts if you schedule posts. It's very simple I don't bother myself about sharing posts unless if I want to share it on Instagram or Google Plus Communities. Use IFTTT to automatically share your blog posts to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit and a whole lot of other websites. If you have a Facebook group, Hootsuite can handle the posting on the group. 4.Get Someone To Help You Run Your Blog Automation can do everything for you but a human touch always stands out from work done by just computers. It's quite possible your RSS feed reader may not cover everything you need to know because you didn't add as many sites as possible. In this case, you can employ someone to post for you either on a weekly or daily basis if you have the cash. You can also offer the person an incentive like free data subscription every month. 5.Set A Schedule For Replying To Comments You won't be on the PC or Phone 24/7. I hardly use my laptop to blog these days. I find it easier using my smartphone so it's possible you may also like using your smartphone. Set a specific time schedule to reply to Comments. This will keep your readers engaged and know when to come back and get a reply to their questions. This is my 5 point strategy of reducing blogging stress as a student. It's totally unwarranted. I just want to remind you of something. This forum is a faceless forum, you don't know who you're talking to. Your search queries, the number of minutes your device is online, etc. Google may decide to send the data to Android OEM's based in the country to improve sales.
