PhonesXiaomi Launches In Africa To Compete Against Tecno, Itel And Infinix by NaijaTechGuy(op): 6:06am On Jan 22, 2019
A couple of months ago Xiaomi Global Spokesman Donovan Sung made a post about their new store that launched in Spain and also asked for suggestions on where they should launch their next store and here’s what I said.

https://i1.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Uxiaomi.png

This means the expansion of Xiaomi had been on the cards for a while.

If you have been following up Xiaomi for a while, you would know that they tend to compete on the foreign market rather than their home country China due to the congestion.

Now, the company is looking to take things to the next level and come to Africa. On Sunday, Xiaomi announced the establishment of their African Regional Department and Wang Lingming (Xiaomi’s VP) was appointed as the manager of the department.

https://i0.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Xiaomi-Logo.jpg

At the moment, in Africa we have over 1.2 billion people but the smartphone usage isn’t really too high and many people still use feature phones and because of this some phone brands don’t really do well in Africa. At the moment Transsision Holdings rules the African smartphone market with its three brands – itel, TECNO, and Infinix ranking at the very top in Africa in terms of market share.

In 2019, the Africa will become one of Xiaomi’s main pioneers in their international business, and their biggest rival here is Transsision Holdings.

What I Think About Xiaomi Coming To Africa

https://i0.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/redmi-logo.jpg

Xiaomi has everything it takes to succeed in Africa especially if it starts off with its recently established Redmi Brand. Redmi already have one of the core features that is missing in all the Transission brands – high quality specs at a low price. You can see how successful the Redmi Note 7 has been so far and we can guess how much the price would have been if it was a Transission product.

Transsision basically takes advantage of the mid-range and low-end smartphone market which is a strong competitive ground for Xiaomi. I believe this would also boost competition among the two brands.

The support for Windows 10 phones have just ended.

https://i1.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/microsoft-to-end-windows-10-mobile-os-support-in-december_f1yg.640.jpg

Although It’s very sad to see the Operating system go out of fashion, there’s nothing we can do about it.

Microsoft has already confirmed that it is officially killing off support for the OS. I actually knew this would happen at some point but I didn’t know it would be this soon.

https://i2.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/6ONd.gif

So if you’re still using a Microsoft Windows 10 Mobile phone, you have less than a year to upgrade to something else preferably an Android Phone.

Windows 10 Mobile Is Dead

https://i2.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/xwindows-phone-border.jpg.pagespeed.gpjpjwpjwsjsrjrprwricpmd.ic_.G2M1wMU0Yo.jpg

Microsoft has already published a support page detailing Windows 10 Mobile’s upcoming End of Support.

According to the company, Windows 10 Mobile users are no longer eligible to receive updates, including security updates, from December 10, 2019. Devices that are running Windows 10 Mobile version 1703 will no longer receive support even earlier — on June 11th, 2019.

So immediately it gets to the end of support date some of the features on the device will slowly stop working and Microsoft won’t do anything about it. Automatic or manual device backups will end on March 10, 2020.

With this notice, Microsoft just hit the final nail on the coffin of it’s mobile operating system

Alternative Option For Windows 10 Mobile

“Microsoft’s mission statement to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more, compels us to support our Mobile apps on those platforms and devices,” the company said, recommending users to move to an Android or iOS device.

Do you still have a windows phone?

PhonesAndroid Q – See The New Features Google Plans On Releasing by NaijaTechGuy(op): 7:28am On Jan 19, 2019
Android Q is already on its way although the current distribution rate of it's predecessor Android Pie is still pretty low, depending on how OEM's adapt some of us might use Android Q completely skipping Android P.

https://i1.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Android-Q-Exclusive-First-Look-And-Awesome-New-Features-696x365.png

Android Q Dark Mode
Although, it's still pretty early to confirm everything Google would be releasing on Android Q but some members of the dev team at XDA Developers already got an exclusive leak and one of the most exciting features in it is the fact that it has dark mode

https://i1.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/hello-darkness-my-old-friend-235588.jpg

Also, users  would get more privacy and also a desktop mode. Here a couple of screenshots

https://i0.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Q-1-498x1024.jpg

https://i1.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Q-4-498x1024.jpg

https://i0.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Q-3-498x1024.jpg

https://i0.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Q-2-498x1024.jpg

In May 2018, Google unveiled Android Pie and actually started working on Dark Mode then and considering most of the Google standalone apps are getting dark mode, it won't be surprising to see Google integrate it into the full OS.

There's also a possibility this feature would enable users force dark mode on some certain applications.

Improved Privacy
If you check one of the screenshots I posted previously , you can see the new permission settings. This would give users a little more flexible control over how apps use their data.

Desktop Mode And Native Screen Recording

The new desktop mode is quite similar to the  Samsung’s Dex and Huawei’s EMUI Desktop. Also in this new version, we will also have native screen recording , something that was already available on ROMs from various manufacturers.

Like I said before, It's still pretty early to know all the other features but be sure that Google would be following this path. We'll get more insight once the developer preview is out

iPhones are different from blackberries.

Blackberry strength was that it was the first phone that came with a cost effective messaging system. WhatsApp however killed it with it's totally free and accessibility on all operating standards and not just one.

iPhone on the hand strength is that it's still a phone and it is bought because it's a powerful brand. I'd like to have an iPhone X and a Samsung S9 just to impress clients. That's why people really buy these phones.

iPhone I believe still has long staying power and fast growing India just like China in the past may provide a massive boost to iPhone sales
Even Americans that use the phone mostly are even complaining . Take the premium factor off . They are becoming greedy

Apple iPhones are officially going to end up like blackberry soon. If you follow this blog, a couple of weeks ago I made a post about Apple losing about $57b , if you missed that post you can find it here - Apple Loses $57b .

This week I'm going to be closely analysing how Apple's iPhone downfall is just starting and how they might end up like BlackBerry if they don't start being innovative.

Apple enjoys the position it has currently based on the fact that in 2006 when the first iPhone was launched there wasn't any strong competitor and also due to the fact they have total control over their operating system something Google plans to have with the release of Fuschia OS.

Apple iPhones Coming With Recycled Features

Starting from the iPhone 7 to the the current iPhone XS Max , Apple has not added anything substantial to their devices apart from removing the headphone jack and adding a notch. All Apple does is change the processor and flip the cameras. Take a look at the image below and see if you can actually guess the phones in the image -

https://www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/apple-1-300x191.png

Then take a look at this second image with the names of the phones below them.

https://www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/apple2-300x191.png

Also like every year a couple of leaks about how Apple's new phone - The iPhone XI would look have also surfaced and here are the most popular ones so far

https://www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/apple3-300x225.png

Still in the flipping camera business eh?

It's one thing to recycle designs and features and a totally different thing to make them exorbitant. Make a quick Google search to compare the cost of upgrading from an iPhone X to an iPhone XS Max considering the only difference is that the devices.

Apple iPhones Are No Longer For Consumers

Apple has stopped developing phones for the users, all they are after is the money. Even Tim Cook confessed at some point last year that they were slowing older iPhones down. They want to force iOS users to upgrade so they can make more money.

I get the fact that every brand is out to make money but don't force your users to do something they don't want to and still extort them on top.

Why do users have to buy the fast charging cable differently, buy the Airpods differently and also buy the wireless charger differently?

https://www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/tenor-2.gif

By the time you calculate how much users have to spend to get the most out of their device , you can use it to get a very good laptop, a brand new Android Phone and a smart watch coupled with a wireless headset.

I'll be honest, Apple truly has added a lot in the world of mobile technology as we know it but they are really running out of ideas and if they refuse to start innovating they will lose out. Blackberry felt nobody could oust them from the mobile scene and we all know where that got them. Nokia too.

Take a look at this chart showing the market share of the top smartphone brands in the world

https://www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/prUS44188018-F-1-300x232.jpg

If you look closely , you can see how Apple shipments dropped in the second quarter of 2018.

You can't even say Apple has the best camera in the world right now. The Google Pixel 3 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro has even pushed it further down the chart. I know some people might say that the pricing is because Apple is a Premium company so they have to make premium products. Vertu was a premium brand too before they went off the grid completely.

It's obvious everything is moving too fast and Apple can't seem to keep up anymore . Also due to their current problem with Qualcomm , Apple is even looking to partner with Mediatek to be able to add 5G to their devices

With devices like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 coming with mind blowing specifications for just $150 (N60,000) and flagship devices from Huawei , Oppo and Vivo coming at a lesser price than the Apple devices, Apple should definitely sit up or they'll lose out on the mobile sector they have dominated for so long.

I know a couple of people might say I'm an Android Fan that's why I'm saying all of this but trust me I have nothing against Apple. This post was even written from an Apple Macbook.

All I'm trying to say is Apple should make the upgrade worth the price, if they can't they can chose to release phones once in two years , at least none of us would complain about their camera flipping antics.

I know many Nigerian iPhone users probably won't mind if Apple keeps extorting them because most of them only buy it to convince themselves they have some sort of class. Some of them don't even know what Airdrop does or that they can text another iPhone user on iMessage and some others play music via Xender and Opera Mini.

Apple should do what's expected as soon as possible or win a ticket to oblivion

So basically.. I'm seeing most people don't understand my point. Whether whatsapp and GB Whatsapp can be compromised.

A regular whatsapp user knows who to blame when something goes wrong and his data is leaked. Whatsapp would take the blame.

Now for a data breach that occurs because you feel the original developers of the app are too dumb to add updates and you download a mod. Who do you blame. huh

And for those saying GBwhatsapp would push whatsapp off. A MOD pushing the original app off the limelight. You guys are just funny.

Whatsapp is owned by Facebook and you can obviously see how they block accounts on Facebook and Instagram. Keep using it. I'll watch when someone here opens a thread saying he's been banned from whatsapp

@NaijaTechGuy

GB WhatsApp is the popular modified version of WhatsApp that many people tend to use these days because it offers more features than the Official WhatsApp application. You may be wondering why you should stop using GB Whatsapp in 2019 , well I’ll be explaining that in this post.

https://i0.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/GBWhatsApp.png

Let’s assume that close to where you live there are hungry wolves in the forest. Not that you’ve personally seen them when you’ve gone into the woods, but you’ve constantly heard them howl at night, and also heard stories of people being killed by them. There are safe paths, with some guards, that go through the woods.

The wolves rarely go through these paths, then there are those that are less sure and may have a lot of wolves. Which do you choose?

GBWhatsApp is not “safer” than the official product and that means there is risk. What type of risk?

There is no Privacy for one and as such you won’t find GB Whatsapp in the Google Play Store because it didn’t pass the security tests and also because it’s a clone app. I know we all love customization but how would you feel if you wake up one day and see that all your conversations have been posted somewhere online?

Also, if you use any other app for using Whatsapp other than the official app, there is a high chance that your security will be compromised. Whatsapp uses end to end encryption, i.e the sender and receiver can only read the messages because only they have the key. There have been unverified reports about the developers of the app adding malicious codes to the app and also there’s a high chance they’re gathering your data without you even knowing.

Now there are basic things the developers could have added to this –

1.A KeyLogger – so that everything you type will be stored in their server.
2.With banks starting to have transaction support on whatsapp they may keep track of your online transactions via your phone and they may copy those keystrokes of your data to clone your card.
3.Anything you send or receive will definitely not have end to end encryption like the original WhatsApp, and developer can receive the private data including image and videos.
4.They have access to read your SMS, they can receive the OTP as well.
5. Your memory card access is also there, so you definitely don’t have any privacy on that device at all

https://i2.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/internet-privacy.jpg

Also come to think of it , Just think about this –

Why does any developer put his/her continuous effort to develop an unofficial modified version of WhatsApp violating all of the copyright policies of the official application?

Why would anyone give you all those awesome looking features for free?

If he/she wanted to put his time and effort to build a separate new messaging platform like whatsapp with a lot of extra features and customization along with personalization options he/she easily could do that which of course eventually might have the potential to be one of the most downloaded and one of the most popular user friendly messaging applications in the world/

Nobody does something like that without any thing in mind so in this case, as no one knows the source code, there is a huge possibility that the privacy of users are being compromised every single moment. There is never something totally free without something behind it.

Immediately you install GB Whatsapp, you have already given the developer permission to access more or less each and every data of your smartphone, along with lot of sensitive information.

There is totally no assurance that the developer is not continuously spying on the daily activities you usually do with your smartphone. The day he decides to mess with the data he can easily do that because the users already gave him permission to,

I still agree that GB whatsapp still provides a lot of extra useful features but is it worth exchanging your entire online privacy and data including your contacts info, personal chats, messages, voice notes, gallery, camera, GPS locations, account information, call history just for the sake of using a single unofficial application.

https://i1.wp.com/www.naijatechguy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/anonymous_897439873434.jpg

Finally I need you to understand this

Whatsapp is not an open-source platform – This means that nobody can just simply copy and paste the code by making a few changes and launch it as a separate product. Such apps are cloned and might steal your information by adding some extra few extra lines of code.

You’ll soon get banned – Some of my friends have reported to me that their account has been banned by official Whatsapp for using some of these apps. WhatsApp is also going to try to implement ads on their platform this year as a way to generate revenue and the developers of these cloned apps may try to stop these ads from working on their own modded versions and the only way Whatsapp can successfully run their ad platform without any glitches might be banning these other cloned apps and its users.

Be it GBWhatsApp , YoWhatsApp , APCWhatsApp , PDPWhatsapp or any unofficial Whatsapp app stay away from it.

Unfortunately there's little you can do about that now. Do try to install a phone tracking app immediately you get a new phone.

An alternative to find your phone might be calling your network provider, they should be able to help track the last seen location based on the last network mast it was connected to.

How is this news sad

Entertainment bloggers this one is for you. I have to derail a bit.

An Open Letter To Entertainment Bloggers

Dear Entertainment Bloggers,

This is 2019 and you people should stop posting unnecessary content as news. I wonder how the international community looks at the kind of content you people post.

If Davido takes a selfie in the toilet, you take it as a headline. If DJ Cuppy posts about eating Amala you post it as a headline. If Wizkid takes a dump it's headlines. Like what in the world do you think you're doing?

Are you out of content?

Can't you see how TMZ operates in the US.

You can rip stuff off celebrities social media pages but add something to it and make sure it's worth making a headline.

The media now seems like it revolves around every celeb. All their Instagram updates are turned into a blog post.

I know many Nigerian may not complain because they're getting used to the mediocrity you guys do all in the name of blogging but to be honest most of you are disgracing bloggers globally all in the name of looking for traffic.

Maybe government should enforce licenses on entertainment bloggers here so not every dick and harry wakes up and tags himself a blogger or probably a regulatory body to handle all the rubbish you post on a daily basis.

Call this a rant or shots fired but you guys need to sit up and stop making our entertainment content revolve around every single update from a celeb page.

You want to give us original content, post about things that happen behind the scenes, scandals and exclusive content and watch your blog stand out.

Copy content from these celebrity pages and remain a needle in a hay sack.

This is 2k19. Sit Up or keep struggling
