Health / Is There A Drup Rehab Center In Nigeria? by naijawebe(m): 5:02pm On Feb 24, 2008
Please help!

Is there a Drug Rehabilitation Center in Nigeria? I've just been told by my family in Nigeria that a very close friend of mine living in Nigeria is seriously in need of help. He is now a drug addict (COCAINE) and needs help pretty soon. I am willing to foot the bill, but the problem is, do we have a good and credible drug rehab facility in that country? I am willing to do my friend a noble favour. He's been with me through thick and thin, and it is time I do my share. Credible drug rehab as in HOSPITAL FACILITY and not the BABALAWOS please! Will highly appreciate your help.

Thanks a Bunch.

She is in our prayers.
Try and read this link. Americans are now running to India for Hip Replacement Surgery, because it is cheaper in India than the US. They also have good Surgeons too. Hope she gets well quickly. "PRAYERS"

Politics / Re: Is 419 in our genes? by naijawebe(m): 5:31pm On Jan 29, 2008
Not just the Ibos and Edos my friend. I applaud the poster who brought up this serious and stern issue that is giving Nigeria/Nigerians a black eye and BAD NAME all over the world. The fact is that people from the Southern part of the country are predisposed to this nefarious acts and as such the culprits. How often do you hear an Hausa name been thrown around? I know everyone will jump on this post and criticize me, but then that has always been the problem with Nigerians. When we are accused, we quickly throw our defensive shield just to counter the accuser. Of course that is what civilized people should do, but before doing that why don't we all ask ourselves why the accuser came up with that analogy. There is always an iota of truth in every story. It doesn't have to be the whole story.
Let us always look at our people before defending them.
For your information I am an Edo, so don't just try and suggest that I am an Hausa or from the North. Far from the truth.
I am sick and tired of being looked at as a potential 419 once you tell an American at work that you are a Nigerian. Would you blame them? Absolutely not, that is the story they hear and read everyday from the web, TV and the print media.
Every 419 caught, tried and if found guilty should be put to firing squad. I know you would say this is a harsh penalty, but how then do we rid these rogues from the society? Give me your thoughts. Firing squad stopped Armed Robbery in Nigeria during the days of the Military back in the 60s and 70s. Do I want the military back in Nigeria, you bet I absolutely don't.

Why all these insults. Isn't this forum for mature individuals to rob minds and discuss what affects us all the most. Remember one of our kind came up with this idea by the name Seun. Please forget about the attacks and let us cheer up. If a thread is posted and you're not interested or has no relevant to your core belief, then do not reply or make issues out of it. We are civilized and educated citizens folks, and please lets behave like one.

Toyinrayo,
It is time we call a truce. I know we are both discussing issues that affect s Nigeria, and should never have gone this far attacking ourselves. We want the best for a country of about 140 million people that was once considered the Lion of Africa, and which of course is the biggest black concentration in the World. It has always been my sworn principle never to get into a shouting match with a woman, because of the respect and love I have for my mother who passed on not too long ago, and it is a promise I intend to keep. My mother was my closest confidant and I hold her in high regard.
My intended post was not to create acrimony and confusion among bloggers but an informed discussion. Our country has been decimated by shameless politicians that stash Nigerian’s money in foreign countries. They frequent US and UK just to name a few, and see the good things that drives Nigerian citizens abroad: good roads, 24 hours supply of light and most of all good and wonderful schools. They go home and continue the looting.
I have also decided to call this truce due to the recent passing of Lucky Igbinedion’s mom. May her soul rest in Peace! Amen.
I now have my hand outstretched to you and those who consider my post offensive.
This is a wonderful forum created by an astute Nigerian for every Nigerian both Home and Abroad to discuss issues affecting Nigerian our country. We as Citizens of that country are the only ones that can change the behavior and mentality of our politicians. Remember “Tianamen Square” in China and the “Orange Revolution” in Ukraine. The protesters changed their countries for ever. I know both you and I have good intention for our country. We should never resolve into tearing ourselves apart, because we are aiming towards the same goal.
Toyinrayo and mailmac,
With this, let us bury the hatchet and hope for a better Nigeria where you and I will be happy and gracious to call HOME.
LONG LIVE NIGERIA!

I am not surprised, because you were one of those Igbinedion thugs who sees nothing wrong with him stealing money allocated to your state. Your state is now the worst and most under-developed state in the country.

Investment / Re: Nigerian Banks, Stockbrokers, And Services For Nigerians Abroad by naijawebe(m): 2:10am On Jan 22, 2008
Hi NBA,

Happy New-Year to each and everyone of you, and thanks to this wonderful thread started by NBA. You are God sent. After going through all these musings, I am now more interested in buying Nigerian Stocks /Shares. God bless all of you,

A few questions for the experts:
1 It seems everyone picked Vetiva, and the minimum to open an account is 1Million Naira. After the account is opened, how then are stocks bought for you.
2. Do you make the pick of stocks /shares to buy or this is done by you chosen Stockbroker?
3. For someone like me who is a complete novice regarding trading in shares/stocks, it will be very hard and difficult for me to know the upward moving shares/stocks.
4. I would prefer them do this for me
My very important question is how does this work with you "NBA" who has an account with Vetiva and for all others who also have accounts with this firm. I recently bought my first shares last year which of course were First Bank and Access Bank , and I am still waiting for their certificates. This was done through my Older brother in Nigeria. I will honestly prefer to be doing this directly by myself with a good stockbroker. Has anyone received their certificates regarding these Banks? Please fill me in if you have.

So NBA, I need you to educate us please regarding this and more.

Once again, you are a blessing to those of us that are novices when it comes to trading in shares/ stocks. And please let me know if Vetiva does all the buying/selling, and only seek your consent before and after transactions?

Wonderful thread. Guys please keep it up. It is time we start thinking about home. "EAST OR WEST, HOME IS THE BEST"

NBA, if you need my e-mail address for more details let me know

Politics / States Allocation! by naijawebe(m): 4:48am On Jan 18, 2008
Why do States have to depend on Federal Govt. allocation to survive? They should TAX businesses in their state, and more so bring "CASINO" to their state, and see how much money that will generate.
Politics / Question For Lucky Igbinedion And His Attorney? by naijawebe(m): 4:40am On Jan 18, 2008
Why do the Federal Govt. and EFCC have to seek his consent and permission before indicting and declaring him wanted for PILFERING and converting Edo State funds to family business??

Reading through the 142 indictments. It seems Edo State was more of a family business than a State business:

Why then is Igbinedion snr (Gabriel Osawaru, the Esama of Benin) not under investigation?

Why is Mike Igbinedion not under investigation?

The Igbinedion's should be investigated methodically, and if found guilty, should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

They should be asked to regurgitate all monies stolen from the people of Edo State, and those stashed in foreign Bank Accounts, after which they should also serve considerable time in KIRIKIRI prison with "HARD LABOUR".

Culture / Re: If You Are From EDO STATE, Represent The HeartBeat of the Nation by naijawebe(m): 9:50pm On Jan 05, 2008
This is a wonderful thread going on here. If you’re here to discuss the issues affecting us Edos, i.e. Edo state, please stay put, but if you are here to discuss personal issues (Tribal Sentiments), it will be best that you leave, and let those of us who feel very strongly about our state discuss and talk about the things that affects us all.
TOPIC: Please talk about the present Govt. and what good he’s done since the inauguration of his government. The last time I was in Nigeria, and was in Benin City the capital, the city was such in a deplorable state that I had to go and live with a friend in Abuja. I was told that the Oba was also conniving with the then Obese Governor Igbinedion. All hands should be on deck. We should not sing the praises of those who have thrown this wonderful state into chaos. We are not called the heart beat of Nigeria for nothing; we were so named because all parts of Nigeria are included in the state. The major tribes: Ibo, Yoruba, and Hausa, and flair of the wonderful people of Edos. We are always peace loving and very unassuming. But being peace loving is now been used against us by successive govts, to them, we are scared to talk and act, which invariably seems to be the case. For Edo state to be the most underdeveloped state in Nigeria is abysmal to say the least. We do not need any Oba to tell us what to do, but a good government to give us what we need and want: good roads, good pipe borne water, and salary for the hardworking people of Edo state. The only good thing going for Edo state is our past glory. The good work of the two former governors, Ogbemudia and Ambrose Alli who was highly hated by the binis for taking a university to Ekpoma. If he hadn’t done that, we would have been left with only UNIBEN today. We now know the good work Alli did. We were unable to question the governor who pillaged the wealth of the state and made them his. The good and wonderful people of Edo state should speak out please, for if don’t, we may be scared for life. “You only live once”. I have had to stop going those Edo conventions Kojeiwa talked about, because nothing of significant importance is always discussed. When you try to talk about the failing govt. in Edo state - -they almost in unison shuts you down which is pathetic. After those years of Ogbemudia and Allis administration, the state is worse than what it used to be 20 years ago. What progress have we made? Absolutely none.
We should use this medium to send a strong message to the present Governor that we will no longer lie low again! We do expect the best from him. He is an intellectual and a law professor at that. The state allocation from the Federal Govt should be used wisely and not to line people’s pockets as Igbinedion did. “A word is enough for the wise” I will leave you my people with these little sayings of our elders:

“WHERE WE LOVE IS HOME--- HOME THAT OUR FEET MAY LEAVE, BUT NOT OUR HEARTS”
“FREEDOM IS A POWERFUL ANIMAL THAT FIGHTS THE BARRIERS, AND SOMETIMES MAKES PEOPLE WISH FOR HIGHER FENCES”
“START BY DOING WHAT’s NECESSARY, THEN WHAT’S POSSIBLE, AND SUDDENLY, YOU ARE DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE”
Thanks Kojiewa for this wonderful thread.
May the Almighty God be with you my Edo people in particular and Nigeria in general.

What a shame, never proud to be a Nigerian. 419 - The rush to be a millionaire, same igbo and yoruba. Do I get a flap for this, absolutely you bet. I am sick of your TRIBAL SENTIMENTS, and please get off it. It is high time we all see ourselves as just ONE NIGERIAN, and not a part of a whole. Big B1,

FYI: The president has made this decision simply to reunite the nation and start all over.
Retaining Ribadu is more or less retaining an expired failure.
A new establishment must be implemented and to accomplish this goal, we must make difficult decisions and during this process, many will cry and whine; but we must stay focused and never deviate.

Decision is decision; we must adjust and move on!

In my book, this is one of the best decisions President Yar'Adua has made in the past 7 months. We must give him credit and support.
We must also pay special attention to Ribadu's replacement and ensure that he's on the right track and remains there.

What Nation is the president reuniting? What a hoax. Is Nigeria a Nation? "A fragment of a WHOLE". A country Where you have the presidency running from one cabal to the next. Credit for what, for been so docile and ineffective. " Pay special attention to Ribadu's replacement and ensure that he's on the right track and remains there" How do you achieve and attain your goal? When the so called Obasanjo deviated from his campaign rhetorics against money grabbers and his daughters fake name for contract procurement, what did Nigerians do, and who monitored the Prefect?
