Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufa’i says the 218 Almajirai who were repatriated to Kaduna from Kano, Nassarawa, Plateau and Gombe States would be enrolled in free and compulsory primary education.

The governor said every child in the state including the Almajiri has equal opportunity and access to 12 years of free and compulsory education in the state’s public school.

El-Rufai who disclosed this on Monday on his Facebook page added that the COVID-19 test was carried out on all the Almajirai and they all tested negative.

He explained that children would not be denied Islamic education, noting that, plans have been put in place to ensure the children go to Islamic school in the evening and at the weekend.

“I am pleased to see our Almajiri children the batch of 218 from Kano, Nassarawa, Plateau & Gombe States looking well & free of Covid 19. With the support of @UNICEF_Nigeria, AMA Foundation, other NGOs & philanthropists, they are being restored full human rights as children, dignity & hope!
“Every child in Kaduna has equal opportunity and access to 12 years of Free and Compulsory Education in our public schools.

“The next step is for the Commissioner of Human Services & Social Development, Mrs Hafsat Baba and her team to return them to their parents in collaboration with Local Government Chairmen and Traditional Rulers. All the children are to be compulsorily enrolled in the primary school nearest to them so they have modern education and life skills in the morning, and continue their Quranic or Islamic education in the afternoon and over the weekend.

“That is how many of us got our education. That is what the Nothern States’ Governors’ Forum decided. These children may the future of Northern Nigeria. – Nasir @el-Rufai.”

The Almajirai are currently kept in interim care at Government College, Kaduna.

The governor, therefore, assured the children that the state’s decision to reunite them with their families is in their best interest.

The 2013 contract between dancehall singer, Cynthia Morgan and Northside Entertainment, headed by music executive, Jude Okoye, has surfaced online.

A copy of the contract was sent to Tunde Ednut by Jude Okoye, in response to the allegations made against him by Cynthia Morgan.

Recall that Cynthia who now goes by the stage name Madrina alleged that she was not allowed to use her stage name and that she no longer had access to her social media accounts following her exit from Jude Okoye’s Northside Records.

She also claimed that she lost all she had, including her name, VEVO account, and royalties after they had some issues centering on her contract.

In an Instagram live chat with Tunde Ednut, Jude stated that he doesn’t have the right to take Cynthia Morgan’s name because it is her birth name.

He also explained that Cynthia Morgan, who has been free since 2017, changed her name to ‘Madrina’ while still signed to his record label.

Jude also denied taking over her Instagram and Twitter account, but admitted that he took over her VEVO account, adding that it was a means of recovering over N40m he spent on her.

He further stated that he paid Cynthia Morgan’s house rent, bought her a Range Rover and even gave her money to buy a land for her mother in Benin.

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria no longer has money to import food owing to the impact of COVID-19 on the nation’s economy.

While speaking with journalists during the Eid celebrations at the state house on Sunday, the president described the impact of the virus as “frightening”.

He said the pandemic has affected both the developed and the developing countries.

“Nigerians can see that the COVID-19 has reduced us, both the developing and developed countries, to the same level,” he said.

“In fact, we have fewer casualties than they have. So, it’s a very frightening development.”

The president asked farmers to maximise the season of rainfall to increase food production.

“I hope the rainy season would be bountiful so that we can get a lot of food,” Buhari said.

“I wish the farmers will go to farms so that we can produce what we need in sufficient quantity so that we don’t have to import food.

“In any case, we don’t have any money to import food. So, we must produce what we are going to eat.”

He appealed to Nigerians to continue to observe the health precautions issued by the federal ministry of health and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

“I advise Nigerians to be very careful and take the advice of the Ministry of Health,“ he said.

“The ministers of health have been doing very well, speaking and educating the citizens on the deadly virus. So, we should be very careful.”

A man has killed his wife after he accused her of having an illicit affair with another man.

According to reports, the man identified as Yikatey Somatey was arrested for killing his wife at Gando near Nyanyema, a suburb of the Sawla-Tuna Kalba District of the Savannah region in Ghana.

The 60-year-old man had accused his wife, Bora Bonbiatey 57, of cheating on him by having affairs with another man in their community.

Information gathered by Ghanaweb indicated that the man lured his wife to the bush in the name of performing a family ritual.

While in the bush, he poured pepper in her face before using a machete to inflict multiple wounds on her, leading to her death.

He was then said to have disposed of the body at a nearby bush and absconded. He was however arrested a few hours later.

According to the Sawla District Police Commander, ASP Degraft Armah Adjei who confirmed the news to journalists, the woman’s uncle reported the incident to the police.

“When the police got there, the deceased was lying lifeless with multiple wounds on her head believed to be from a cutlass.”

The body of the deceased has since been handed over to the family for burial, he added.

The police in Ogun state have arrested three friends suspected to be ritualists after a fresh human hand was found in their possession.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, states that the three friends, Mathew Idosu, John Feyisetan and Samuel Adegbola, residents of Owode-Yewa, met with a herbalist, Michael Itomu, to seek spiritual means of getting rich quickly. The 40-year-old herbalist informed them the only way out was to get a fresh human hand which will be used for a sacrifice for them.

Getting the fresh human hand proved difficult until Mathew informed his accomplices that he had a friend in Abeokuta who could be of help. They met with the said friend with the promise of giving him N1 million that they did not have.

True to Mathew's belief, the friend in Abeokuta, together with two other friends, made sure they got the hand and presented it to them, a development that soon caused a fight as Matthew and his accomplices could not redeem the N1 million pledge. The ''fresh hand providers'' took Matthew's accomplices, John and Samuel, to the bush where they beat them blue, black before releasing them.

Suspecting that Matthew might have had a hand in their "punishment," since he did not get a taste of the beating, the two accomplices took up a fight with him, so much that their secret filtered out to neighbours who alerted policemen attached to Idiroko Division.

Oyeyemi in his statement said the DPO immediately ordered their arrest.

"Upon the information, the DPO, Idiroko Division, CSP Opebiyi Sunday, detailed his detectives, in collaboration with men of the So-Safe Corps, to ambush the suspects, an effort that led to the arrest of the three friends at Owode-Yewa and, eventually, the herbalist in the early hour of Tuesday, May 19, 2020.

Preliminary investigation revealed that it was Mathew Idosu who contacted a family friend of his in Abeokuta, who provided the hand alongside two others who are now at large. On delivering the hand, they demanded for the agreed one million naira but the money was not readily available, this led to serious scuffle between them and they angrily took away the duo of Samuel Adegbola and John Feyisetan to a bush where they thoroughly beat them before they were released on 17th of may 2020.

It was the action of those who supplied the hand that made the whole secret to be leak, which eventually led to their arrest.

The fresh human hand has been taken to Idiroko General Hospital for preservation" Oyeyemi said

The Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.

A 62-year-old woman has died while struggling for COVOD-19 palliative shared by the Rivers state government in Elele Kingdom, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the State.

According to source, the deceased, Mrs. Florence Onuobodo arrived at the venue with others waiting to receive the palliatives. A stampede ensued and she was trampled upon by others who were also struggling to collect the food items. Four other women including a 91-year-old woman sustained varying degrees of injury during the stampede.

Commenting on the incident, a counsellor representing Elele, ward 4, at Ikwerre LGA Legislative Assembly, Emmanuel Amadi, denied the allegation that the process for sharing the palliatives was poorly managed. He said it was unfortunate that the deceased died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where she was rushed to.

A 23-year-old man, Uchenna Mbahotu, has been arrested by the Imo State Police for allegedly defiling two underage sisters.

The suspect was living in the same compound with the 11 and 9-year-old sisters he allegedly abused, the Imo State Police spokesperson, Orlando Ikeokwu, said.

According to reports, he was trusted by the girls' parents, so, he abused that trust by allegedly abusing the girls sexually.

Ikeokwu, who said the suspect would be charged at the conclusion of investigation, stated that Mbahotu took advantage of his familiarity with the victims to defile them.

According to him, personnel of the Orji Police Divisional Headquarters arrested the suspect.

The PPRO stated, “On May 13, 2020, based on a report by the mother of the victims from Nkwo Orji, Owerri North Local Government Area of the state, operatives of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Orji, arrested one Uchenna Mbahotu, 23.

“The complainant reported that the said Uchenna Mbahotu defiled her two daughters, aged 11 and nine.

“She further stated that the suspect took advantage of the fact that her family allowed the kids to get close to him as a next door neighbour to perpetrate the evil act.

"However, medical examination conducted on both children revealed that only one was defiled.”

Four suspected cultists with guns were apprehended on Sunday, May 10, by Ngwuru Neighbourhood Watch in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The chairman of the neighbourhood watch, Mr Ferdinand Onah said that the boys who are in their early 20s were apprehended at Ogbaegu, in Ngwuru following intelligence reports from the residents.

He said that they were 15 in number, adding that his men are still ransacking the area to arrest the rest of the gang.

Onah said: "We have been monitoring them over time because of their activities in our area. They are always in twos in their motorcycles and they always carry their bags where they hide guns and other items for operations.

"When we got intelligence reports about their activity in the neighbourhood, I positioned my men in strategic locations. That was when we saw two boys with bags speeding with motorcycle towards our direction. We ordered them to stop but they refused. We then chased them with our own motorcycles until they jumped from it and started running. We also pursued and nabbed them."

He added: "We discovered guns and other items in their bag. While we were with them, we got another report that two of them were also caught by our men at Ogbaegu.

"We brought them together and handed them over to the police who transferred them to Enugu for further investigation. They were about 15 in number but others ran away. We are still searching for them. They have been robbing the residents and snatching motorcycles."

Boss Mutapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, today disclosed that President Buhari has directed the presidential task force on COVID-19 to pick up the COVID-19 Syrup from Madagascar that has been reported to have plant-based “remedy” for Coronavirus.

Mustapha while addressing newsmen at the daily briefing of the taskforce in Abuja today, said Madagascar has donated some of the products to Nigeria through Guinea-Bissau, and arrangements were being made to pick them up.

He, however, said that the syrup will be subjected to the standard validation process for pharmaceuticals

''I have received instructions from Mr President to make arrangement to fret it home with a clear instruction that I should subject it to the validation process similar to what will happen to any other medicine or syrup or vaccine that is discovered or created internally. It will be subjected to the same process before it is put into any form of use.'' he said
