The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two dispatch riders for allegedly attempting to dispossess the driver of a ride-hailing company, Uber, of his vehicle in the Anthony area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspects, Sule Abdulkareem and Celestine Joseph, ordered the ride from Obalende and claimed to be going to Anthony.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the driver, who sensed danger when the suspects attempted to snatch the vehicle from him, drove to where operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad were stationed and the men were arrested.

It was learnt that a gun was recovered from the suspects.

Abdulkareem told PUNCH Metro that they planned to use the vehicle as collateral for a loan to start a business.

He said, “I met Celestine (Joseph) when we were both dispatch riders for an online retail company. I left the company when my salary was being deducted illegally even after I had paid fully for the motorcycle that was given to me.

“When I left the company, my friend told me that he wanted to start a restaurant and bar business on the Island and that he needed N1.6m for the business. We looked everywhere to get a loan, but nobody was willing to give us. It was during our search for the loan that somebody told us that we would need collateral.

“We had wanted to use that Toyota Corolla as our collateral to get the money; unfortunately, we were unable to rob the driver of his car. We both agreed to rob the driver. It was an unfortunate incident.”

Joseph, who stated that the gun was given to them by a friend, said they used it to protect themselves from hoodlums while they worked for the online company.

He said, “We planned to snatch the vehicle from him before he got to Maryland; when we asked him to stop at Anthony bus stop, he refused.

“When he did not stop, we decided not to rob him again, but we were arrested by the police.”

Adamawa State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old man, identified as Pwadimadi Zeham, for allegedly raping a 4-year-old minor.

The suspect, a resident of Mbulawa ward, Numan Local Government Area of the State, was arrested by Detectives attached to Numan Division.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Suleiman Nguroje, “The suspect, who happened to be a close neighbour to the victim, took her into his room on July 23 and had carnal knowledge of her.

The mother, upon noticing the unusual behaviour of her little baby, closely monitored and observed sperm in her private part, hence she reported.

The victim is now undergoing medical screening while the suspect is taken into custody for investigation and prosecution,” he said.

One Mrs. Ifeoma Ezeugwu, has been arrested for allegedly drilling nails – in two places – into the head of 10 years old girl, Miss Chinonye Nnadi, who served as her housemaid.

Chairperson of the WomenAids Collective WACOL, Prof. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, said her office was alerted on Friday about the case. According to reports, the suspect also tortured the girl with a hot pressing iron.

“This is gory and torture of a young innocent girl whose only crime is being born to a poor widow who had to give her up to live with someone in the hope that she will get an education and survive.

We pray that she recovers. We demand full wrath of the law on this woman that inflicted such a level of physical injury on this girl. I spoke to the distraught mother of the victim.

She is a poor widow living in a rural village in Aku, near Nsukka, Enugu state. It is time to eradicate child labour, ban and punish heavily anyone using children as domestic help.

The Child Rights Act and the NAPTIP Act must be effectively enforced. WACOL will follow through to ensure that justice is done in this matter” she said.

A house in Rockville, Maryland, United States, purchased by a former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, in 2016 for $1,347,200m -- N522,713,600m (N388 per USD) -- has been uncovered.

The residential building located at 10821 Symphony Park Drive, which attracts an annual tax of $18,198 -- N7,060,824m --was purchased by Ajimobi during his second term in office as governor of the state in 2016.

According to findings by SaharaReporters, the purchase of the house in America is in gross violation of the code of conduct laws of Nigeria, which forbids serving public officials from operating bank accounts and purchasing property outside the country.

It was also gathered from sources at the Code of Conduct Bureau that the property was not listed among assets declared by the former Oyo governor until his tenure in office elapsed in 2019.

Also, checks with top real estate players in the US indicated that the Maryland property of Ajimobi was now worth at least $1.6m -- N620,800,000m.

The revelation comes days after Ajimobi died at the First Cardiology Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, as a result of Coronavirus complications.

Before his demise, the late former governor had been embroiled in a bitter feud with the Oyo State Government headed by Seyi Makinde over the revocation of 48 plots of land belonging to him.

According to the state government, the revocation became necessary after the property violated its land administration laws.

Unwilling to lose the choice property without putting up a brave fight, Ajimobi took the matter to court where it remained until he died last week.

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency has increased the pump price of petrol to N140.80/143.80 per litre from the present N121.50 per litre.

The regulatory agency announced the new retail price band to marketers in a circular dated July 1, 2020 and signed by its Executive Secretary, Abdulkadir Saudi.

The pump price of petrol was on June 1, 2020 reduced to N121.50 per litre from N123 per litre.

“After a review of the prevailing market fundamentals in the month of June and considering marketers’ realistic operating costs, as much as practicable, we wish to advise a new PMS pump price band of N140.80 - 143.80/litre for the month of July, 2020,” part of the circular read.

A graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Shuaib Isola, has died after being hit with a magic ring, following a disagreement during a football match he was officiating over the weekend in Iwo, Osun State.

One Lateef Ahmed has been arrested by the police in connection with the death. The deceased allegedly collapsed after being hit with the magic ring by his friend, Lateef.

According to reports, Lateef hit the deceased following a dispute at St Mary’s Grammar School football field on Sunday. Isola was confirmed dead at the General Hospital, Iwo, where he was rushed to, as all attempts to revive him proved abortive.

Yemisi Opalola, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, while confirming the incident, said the family of the deceased evacuated his corpse and declined autopsy. But investigation will continue into the incident.
