NAIRAFAME had reported that Jerro, who resides in Beirut Lebanon, sent in an image alongside the data page of the 30-year-old Nigerian, Peace Busari Ufuoma to a Facebook group called ‘Buy and Sell Lebanon.’

The culprit had placed a $1,000 bill on the domestic worker.

However, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) on Thursday announced that the suspect has been arrested.

She, therefore, commended the Nigerian mission in Lebanon for its swift action.

She tweeted, “Breaking news on trafficked Nigerian girl for sale on Facebook by a Lebanese! The Lebanese Government just announced the arrest of Mr. WAEL JERRO for onward prosecution against criminal sales of a human, a young Nigerian girl.

A couple in Lagos have been arrested for the death of their 19 year old housemaid.

Mr and Mrs Fortune Stephens, (pictured left) were arrested by Operatives of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) of the Lagos State Police command for the death of Joy Okom Adole, at their home at number 18 Ogundola street, in the Bariga area of the state.

The couple called the police to report that their housemaid had committed suicide at their home on April 20th following a misunderstanding. When the police arrived, Joy was found hanging from a rope in her room. The couple was taken to the station for questioning and during preliminary investigation, a different story emerged of how Joy may have met her untimely death.

Her family believe that Mr and Mrs Stephens or only Mrs Stephens beat Joy to death and staged her death to look like suicide.

Narrating what he believes happened to LIB, a cousin of late Joy, Philip Ejeh, said she worked for the couple for just four months, starting from 10th of January. She was being paid N15000 a month, but the money was paid to an agent who brought Joy to the couple and not directly to Joy.

What really happened is that on April 20th at about 4pm, I received a call from the village that our sister, Joy, is somewhere at Bariga where she is working as a househelp but that she is now dead. I never knew she was in Lagos. So I made enquiries and they sent the agent's number that brought her to that place to me. I called the agent who narrated what happened.

The agent said it was on Sunday evening April 19th that they called her that the girl is misbehaving and that she should come and take her away. Actually when the girl started working on the 10th of January, they began by paying her N10, 000. Subsequently the couple refused to pay her salary and she decided to stop working. Joy said she wanted them to open an account for her so they can be paying her salary to her directly and that if they are not ready to do that, she is no longer ready to work.

They started complaining that the girl wasn't working as they expected her to work.

On the 10th of April, they asked her to leave their house since she wasn't ready to work with them again. She packed her things and went to the bus stop but couldn't find a bus due to the lockdown. She had to go back to their house. The couple saw her and were like they had told her to go, why is she still hanging around. They called the agent who pleaded with them that since there is a lockdown, they should bear with her and manage Joy pending when there is free movement so she can come and move her away from their house.

They allowed her to enter their house but on the 19th, they chased her again and were like if the agent doesn't come to pick her, they never want to see her around their house again. At that point, they were beating her again. They called the agent who pleaded with them to still keep her since there is no movement. She told them to please keep her until Monday April 20th that she would find her way to come and pick her up. The agent heard the husband telling the wife that she should stop beating the girl and that the beating is okay. In the process, the phone went off.

On Monday April 20th around 7am, they called the agent and was trying to make some enquiries about the girl. The agent was like any information you need about the girl, ask her and she would supply you with the information. They continued to insist. It was around 11am that they opened up to her that Joy is dead. The agent was like what happened. Who killed her? What killed her? The couple said she was supposed to wake up and that she did not wake up so they had to go and check her room only to find her hanging. The agent was like this is not possible, you should tell me that you beat her to death.

They told her that they were saying the truth and that at the moment, they have moved the corpse to the police station and then to the mortuary. They sent the photo where she hung herself. The agent forwarded the picture to us.'' he said

Phillip said Mrs Fortune alleged that she found out that the deceased stole her indomie noodles and some of her other personal belongings.

Igando residents allegedly killed three suspected members of a robbery gang who invaded their community, then dumped their bodies in a canal.

Residents claim the suspects were members of the "One Million Boys" robbery gang, who had earlier written a letter warning residents to keep money for them that they were going to pay them a visit, Vanguard reports.

The bodies of the three robbery suspects were found floating on a canal by the link bridge between Igando/Abaranje, on Tuesday afternoon, April 21.

A resident, Mr Ojo Majekodunmi, explained to Vanguard how the men were caught and killed.

He said: “ On Monday night, there was an uproar everywhere that these bad boys were approaching our area. We armed ourselves with cutlasses and took positions. But we did not see them until 5am when we heard they were at Sadiku Olowora street. By the time we got there, the vigilante group whose members are OPC had already overpowered three of them.

"Cutlasses and a lighter was found on them. During interrogation, one of them said the lighter was meant to burn victims’ window nets, in order to gain access into their apartments”.

Another resident, Kelechi Nwamobi, told the publication, ”One of the suspects said they didn’t mean to kill anyone. In his dying state, he begged everyone he had stolen from since the lockdown started, to forgive him, saying, they were forced to burgle homes because of hunger”.

The publication adds that it was later discovered that the robbers who were lynched were not members of the One Million Boys gang, but were hungry burglars.

Seven people who formed the vigilante group that apprehended the three burglars have been arrested by policemen from Ikotun division. They were faulted for taking laws into their hands by carrying out jungle justice on the suspects, who were said to have been without any gun, as initially claimed by residents.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered for further investigation into the matter.

The accident, involving a Mazda bus and a motorcycle, took place at about 9:30 am on Tuesday, April 21, around the new Kara Market on the Lagos -Ibadan Expressway.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Tuesday, April 21.

He said that the accident was caused by reckless driving and wrongful overtaking on the part of the driver of the Mazda bus.

The bus driver hit the motorcyle, then the bus lost control and rammed into a moving trailer from the rear.

Eighteen passengers - 13 males and five females - were on the bus when the accident occurred.

Six people were injured while two men, one from the bus and another from the motorcycle died in the accident.

The injured victims were taken to a hospital while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the State Hospital’s mortuary in Isara Remo.

Facebook user, Kelly Mark who shared photos of the burnt notes to Facebook wrote: "Please guys this is what happened to me this afternoon, I have been saving this cash for sometime now. Only to be called dat my house is on fire.

"I ran down and after putting off the fire my saving box was burnt, after opening it I found the money inside like this. Inside this Covid 19 wahala.. am confused of what to do."

The Federal Government has warned Kano residents against buying drugs being sold as 'COVID-19 vaccines' in the state.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed raised the alarm at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) in Abuja on Tuesday April 21, and he said the yellowish vaccines being sold in Kano have not been certified.

Lai Mohammed said;

“The federal ministry of information and culture and its agencies have put up a public enlightenment and advocacy campaign to continue to reach Nigerians with information on how they can protect themselves and avoid contracting the disease.
“This is necessary because in the absence of any vaccine or drug, non-pharmaceutical intervention remains the most effective way to contain the spread of the disease and protect Nigerians.
“By the way, you must ignore the vaccine being hawked in Kano which is called COVID-19 vaccine. It’s yellow in colour. It is not certified by anybody; please don’t patronise the hawkers.
“The campaign has, therefore, continued to focus on the need for the populace to adhere strictly to social distancing and mass gathering restrictions. Wear face masks and ensure good personal hygiene.”

The driver had reportedly explained that they were coming from Lagos and going to Kano, pleading that they should be allowed to pass through as they pledged not to stop in the state.

But the security at the point called the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who doubles as the Chairman of the state Task force on COVID-19, Ibrahim Ahmed Matane, to seek permission to allow them to pass through the state.

Matane, on arrival at the point where the truck was stopped, told the security personnel to escort the trailer through the road it came into the state, insisting that there was no waiver for any truck that is not carrying food items, fuel or other essential products to enter into the state.

A wildlife organization in Kenya has announced the birth of a "Zonkey" which came after its mother, a Zebra mated with a donkey.

The stray Zebra began an amorous affair with the donkey after it ventured out of the Tsavo East National Park, into a community bordering the park. It became an honorary member of a local woman’s cattle herd before Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (an organisation that works to rescue and rehabilitate animals in Kenya), were called in to relocate the wildlife into a protected area.

The Zebra was transferred to Chyulu National Park, but her foal was only noticed few weeks ago as it has a gestation period of 12 months.

The group wrote;

It's a Zonkey!

Working with wildlife, one learns to expect the unexpected. Even the most seemingly straightforward story can eventually reveal its true stripes and end up surprising us all.

Last year, our SWT/KWS Tsavo Vet Unit moved a wayward female zebra from community land back to a protected area. It was an uneventful translocation and the zebra has been loving life since. We did, however, have quite the surprise recently, with the appearance of a baby zonkey - a hybrid between a zebra and a donkey - by her side.

Zebra's have a 12-month gestation period, so it's not been difficult to connect the dots as to the origins of this lovely little character. It seems that mum encountered a rather amorous donkey before she was moved!

SWT also shared an elaborated statement of the amorous Zebra and Donkey on its website.

It wrote;

Last May, the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veterinary Unit received a call from the KWS Community Warden at Mutomo Station. A stray zebra that had ventured out of the Tsavo East National Park and into a community bordering the park. She made herself right at home there, becoming an honorary member of a local woman’s cattle herd. This situation continued for many weeks, until the story was aired on local media, and then our team was asked to help translocate the zebra back to a protected area.

At this point, the zebra had become fairly habituated to community life, so we had to choose her new home with that in mind. We settled on our Kenze Anti-Poaching Team’s base in Chyulu National Park, so they could keep a close eye on her while she settled into her new home. Translocating the mare was a straightforward process; after sedating her, the team put her in the back of a pickup truck and took the most direct route into the National Park. Waking up upon arrival, the zebra — who was quickly proving herself to be unflappable and extremely adaptable — got to her feet and ambled off into the bush. Our Kenze team saw her frequently over the coming weeks and months; she became a regular at the water hole and often availed herself of the nearby salt lick.

We’re happy to report that mum and baby are thriving. Their new home is in an area that isn’t plagued by heavy predation and thanks to the lush conditions, water and grass plentiful it is a good place to call home. We have over the decades raised many orphaned zebras, and in time, we will add to this unusual pair when it becomes time to release any zebra orphans, while this unusual pair wait for some wild zebra's to discover them both. Until that day comes, they seem quite content to spend their days grazing side-by-side, a sight that makes us all stop and marvel at the wonders of nature.
