The driver that drove the truck that exploded last Saturday at Eleyewo community in Akure North local government area, Isiaka Yinusa, has said that he did not know that he was carrying explosives.

Yinusa is still recuperating from the surgery he has undergone to remove shrapnel from his stomach as he was rushed to the hospital unconscious.
He said the last thing he heard was ‘everybody run’ before he went blank and woke up at the hospital.
Speaking in an interview monitored on the state television, Yinusa said his boss contacted him to move some items from a stranded truck at Osu axis along Ife-Ibadan expressway.

Yinusa said they loaded the consignment and was to deliver them to a company in Auchi, headquarters of Estako West local government area.
The driver said there was a police escort team and a staff of the company where the explosives were to be delivered.
He stated that when they got to Akure at the Shasha market and the vehicle become faulty, they decided to pass the night there.

Yinusa said he was sleeping inside the truck when one of the police escorts told him they should urgently leave the area because of the population in the area as smoke was emitting from the truck.

“I was sleeping inside the truck. I heard a bang on the vehicle door that smoke was coming out from under the vehicle.
“We quickly move. The policeman that led the team said we should move ahead. As we were moving, the policemen in the escort started flashing him that he should stop. As we got down, I saw fire coming out from the vehicle. We brought out fire extinguisher. While other vehicles parked.
“They tried to assist. Suddenly the policemen shouted everybody run. As I was running, I heard a band and noticed something in my abdomen. That was all I knew and I woke up in the hospital.”

A man has cried out after his father and 3 brothers were allegedly killed on their farm by suspected herdsmen.

Mr Jacob, who lives in Lagos, said the male members of his family were killed yesterday, March 31, 2020, in Arimogija town, Ose Local Government Area, Ondo state.

He wrote: "Herdsmen came to their farm destroyed their crops and killed them."

He said his father, Late Elder Jacob Oguche and his brother Jacob Adura Godday died immediately after the attack. His younger brother, Jacob Eneku, who was shot in the chest by the suspected herdsmen, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

He added that he is the only son left and he needs to travel to see the corpse of his father before they are buried but he cannot travel because of the lockdown.

He wrote:

"Please Nigerians come to my aide. Fulani herdmen kill my father today with three of my brothers cold blood in their farm.
"Please help me announce it all over tv, radio & media.
"I beg government of Lagos state permit to go and see my family corps. This case happened today 31.3.2020. Please help me pass this msg to Lagos state governor. I have been to three different police stations, Ikeja, Egbeda, and Alimosho.
"I need to go and see my father & my brothers corps plz help me if you can I need to go out of Lagos.
"I'm the only boy remaining for my family."

He added: "My little brother still in the hospital he was shot in his chest I need to go out of Lagos. I'm the only man left for them to carry their corps please help pass the msg if this can get to Mr governor. Please."

A patrol team of the Nigerian Navy Ship Victory in Calabar has intercepted 204 drums of diesel being smuggled to Cameroon.

The team also arrested four suspects in connection with the seizure. The suspects are Okon Asuquo Okon, Unwana Etim Nkereuwem, Ndundu Bassey Entom and Victor Etim Effiok.

Handing over the petroleum product and the suspects, the Commander of NNS Victory, Rear Admiral Vincent Okeke, who was represented by Navy Captain Ibrahim Gwaska, said,

“On Friday 13 March 2020 at about 0930, NNS Victory patrol team on routine patrol intercepted and arrested a wooden boat laden with substances suspected to be illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at Calabar River entrance en route to the Republic of Cameroon.

“The boat was arrested with four crew members on board. The boat, crew and the impounded product was escorted to the Base. On arrival at the Base jetty, 204 drums of AGO were offloaded from the wooden boat.

“Investigation revealed that the suspected illegally refined AGO was loaded from Ijaw Creek around Bonny Island, Rivers State and was heading to Wovia in Cameroon.”

He added that on the same date and location another boat laden with 105 drums of AGO was arrested.

“However, the suspects absconded on sighting the Base gunboats. Prior to this very arrest, on 4 March 2020 to be precise, the Base patrol team arrested three suspects and 54 drums of illegally refined PMS in a wooden boat at Agbana West Point by Tom Shot Island Breakwaters.

“These were handed to the State Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps by Capt I.A. Gwaska at about 1330 Friday, 6 March, 2020 on behalf of the Commander NNS Victory, Rear Admiral Vincent Okeke. Similarly, on Saturday 7 March, 2020 a wooden boat laden with 42 bags of rice was arrested without suspects. The total market value of the arrested items is N22m.”

He warned would-be criminals to desist from illegal acts and engage in legitimate business or face the wrath of the law.

The state Commandant of NSCDC, Danladi Elisha received the petroleum products and the suspects and promised to diligently prosecute the matter.
