Senator Monday Okpebhelo, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been given 24 hours to explain his pledge to provide insecurity if elected in the September 21 election. During his campaign rally at Ovia-north LGA on Thursday, the APC candidate goofed while addressing the crowd. A video shared on Facebook showed that Okpebholo made the mistake after Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo north, raised concerns about the security situation of the state. Reacting to issues raised by Oshiomhole and other speakers on the podium, Okpebholo said his administration will “transform” Edo state if he wins the governorship election. “We’re going to provide you with insecurity,” Okpebholo said as Oshiomhole, who was standing by his side signalled to him, after which the candidate corrected himself. But in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, Imman Ekpe, national coordinator of The Edo Salvation Group (ESG), said the group was seriously bothered by the viral video showing Okpebhelo vowing to provide insecurity as governor. Noting that it had waited days for Okpebhelo and his enablers including Oshiomhole, to deny the video, the group said that it was now satisfied that the video was apparently not a fabrication. “Like many people in the Edo State project we were concerned about the video that showed the APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebhelo saying that he will provide insecurity to his listeners. “We believe that this is a serious issue that must not be put aside and we truly believe that Senator Okpebhelo does not understand what he said. “While we pardon him for his error, but it also underscores the issues before the voters going into this election. It brings to question the capacity of the candidate who has made several other gaffes including using transformers as the complete answer to electricity. “These gaffes clearly point to the fact that Senator Okpehelo is not an option as he will either be a dummy for Oshiomhole or really provide Edo State with insecurity through his gaffes if he becomes governor through his lack of capacity. “In the light of this, we painfully ask Senator Okpehbelo to within 24 hours go on television to explain what he meant by providing insecurity or we would come out to openly disclaim him as a candidate fit for office.” https://dailytrust.com/edo-okpebhelo-given-24-hours-to-explain-promise-of-providing-insecurity/ |
This Birnin Gwari had always been a high-risk area for decades with recurrent 'armed robberies' especially involving travelers on the Old Lagos Road, predating boko haram. One had always wondered why. Just search or google 'mineral resources in Birnin Gwari'. It's quite obvious the distribution of these 'bandits' correlates with locations rich in mineral resources. |
I'm sure, if Goodluck Jonathan took this route, the likes of Buhari and Tinubu would have remained mere frustrated protesters, probably exiled. This attempt at gagging and intimidating a few individuals and advocacy groups would boomerang badly. I'm pretty sure SERAP and Ajaero are not sponsors of boko haram and banditry. This administration is fiercely going after law-abiding critics, leaving criminals in and out of government. |
There is nothing wrong in a man praising his wife. I see no logic in a man restraining himself from appreciating his wife just because he had an ex. Reno, enjoy your marriage o jare! |

A terrible move if the government is behind this sham of not verifying and licensing qualified Nurses. If they want these nurses to return to Nigeria, they should be employed and paid just as their counterparts in these Countries. You can't have a bunch of illiterates in the National Assembly justifying competitive pay as their counterparts in advanced countries and expect healthcare professionals to live as slaves. Lie Lie! If any nurse is deported as a result of such senseless policy, all nurses should down tools nationwide. |
When a defective educational system is combined with programmed misorientation and mental laziness, this is what you get. Many of the so-called 'journalists' we have today are definitely not exempted from this predicament. |
delishpot:Very likely. A ruptured aneurysm. |
gistray:Threats do not faze us Edos. And we are discerning also. He apologized for the post made 3 years ago.

Odingo1:Records and facts about the coup have always been Ifeajuna, Ademoyega were masterminders behind the coup. Nzeogwu only got involved at a later stage and he oversaw operations in Kaduna, Zaria. Besides, the reason it was called an 'Igbo coup' was because Igbo leaders were 'spared' while those from other parts of the Country were eliminated. |
Even bandits wan explore ethnic manipulation strategy. madridguy:This is the best time for the government to decimate these rogues. |

The criminals responsible for these MUST be identified and made to face the full wrath of the law (Capital Punishment). No Country with reasonable inhabitants compromises on this. If Customs and the Nigerian government do not name these importers, then they are just jokers. Anything short of this would encourage many more which would enter unhindered. |
All this long story. Who are the criminals responsible for the imported goods? Are they unable to identify them? Or are they untouchable? If no one is used as a scape -goat, expect many more to pass through. |

Nigerians should brace up. The average expense for petrol for a car would be around 300k per month. That means the average salary/income should be about 800k to 1m. |
ladychioma:Wetin concern Amaka and Benin, Edo State?

How about restricting registered lines allocated to one NIN to 4! Is that beyond their capacity? Definitely telecoms or their agents were the ones who registered hundreds of lines to one person. Individuals cannot register themselves. |
There are lots of potentially dangerous products everywhere at the moment. Everyone has to be careful with what you consume. This has gotten beyond desperation for money. |
I watched the interviews, he appeared to display some level of arrogance while having no answers to critical questions which exposed the level of preparedness to serve Edo people. I'm quite impressed with the level of journalism practised at Channels and Arise. Asue seems to be the man for this job. |
May his soul rest in peace. What could have led to such fatal accident? Bad roads? |

babasolution:How come Igbos made up the highest number of slaves from West Africa? And you claim citizens of empires or kingdoms were slaves by being in their own kingdoms? babasolution:The Aro system was established in the 17th century, while slave trade was very much ongoing during the 15th century. The Aro system seemed to organise various Igbo groups in order to establish coordinated governance, and like other traditional systems may have prescribed slavery as a form of punishment in their justice system. But it's doubtful it was the major factor which contributed to the high figures. It's more likely, prior to the Aro system, there were multiple smaller groups who may have taken advantage of one another, depending on influence or strength, and may have sold members of 'weaker' groups as slaves for economic gain. This definitely doesn't sound like a democratic setting! |

When told that some filling stations operated by independent marketers in Lagos and many other states dispense their products for as high as N900 and N1,000/litre, the NMDPRA official said such outlets would be brought to book if apprehended. If apprehended, abi if the NMDPRA is functional at all because basically ALL stations, apart from NNPC sell between 900 and 1000 per litre. |
CyrusVI:The thing tire pesin. But this strongly suggests these terrorist groups may be sponsored by the West. With the West and 'follow-follow' AU not in good terms with the regime, followed by more strengthened ISIS attacks aimed at taking over the Country. Africa needs help, and only Africans can provide such help through innovative solutions to Africa's own problems. You can't be isolated and be waiting for Russia. |
