The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, through the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services, has banned the killing of donkeys across the country.

Dr. Olusegun Awoniyi, the Agency’s director said that the Federal Government has made it an offence for anybody to kill donkeys and trade on its skin. The agency explained why it has been invading donkey skin processing camps across the federation and seizing donkey skin from owners.

According to Awoniyi, the policy was made by the federal government to avoid the ‘work’ animal from going into extinction. Awoniyi said,

“Apart from Nigeria, many countries have placed a ban on the killing of donkeys and trading on its skin. Nigeria has received a lot of memos from many countries discouraging the killing of donkeys and trading on its skin or meat.”

Dr Awoniyi disclosed this while reacting to the alleged invasion of donkey skin processing camps of Dried Meat Preservers Association of Nigeria, DMPAN and seizing of over 2000 processed donkey skin worth over 80 million Naira, across the states in the country. Members of the association from Anambra, Sokoto, Gombe, Kaduna, Bornu, Oyo States and other parts of the federation had in a press briefing in Onitsha, demanded explanations from the federal government, over the invasion of their donkey skin processing camps and seizing their goods.

The association’s spokesman and chairman of Onitsha branch, Mr. Ikechukwu Aniude, alleged that some group of people wanted to hijack their business through Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services. He said:

“Apart from the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services invasion of our camps, almost all the security agencies are now involved in seizing our goods and extorting different amounts of money from our members across the federation.

“Some of the places our goods were seized are Rara, Mahuta, Fakai Local Government Area of Kebbi State. 1600 pieces of donkey skin were seized from two of our members on June 26, 2020, and taken to the Divisional Police Station in Mahuta Koko Zuru road in Kebbi State and two of our members, Hope Abumen and Christian Nwanya were detained there for three days because they followed them to know the destination of their goods.

“Others places our goods are seized are Kaduna, Bornu, Sokoto and Oyo State, while security agents extort various amounts of money from us starting from Sokoto to Nsukka Enugu State.”

A Lagos base legal practitioner, Chuks Nnalugha has condemned those calling for zoning in next year`s governorship election in Anambra State.

Speaking in an interview with irukkanews,Nnalugha who is the legal adviser to Anambra State Indigenes Lawyers Forum (ASILF), said that since the governorship has rotated among the three senatorial zones in the state, candidates should start running base on their own personal credentials instead of the zone they hail from. He said that it is heartbreaking that at this time and age, people would still be talking zones where candidates should come from instead of people with competence to transform the state.

According to him,for Anambra to join the league of frontline states in the country,they have to discard zoning and go for competences. He said that former governor Peter Obi was not elected because he hail from Anambra Central but because he was a successful business man and people believed that he had the capacity to transform the state.

According to him, Peter Obi did not disappoint those that saw his credentials and voted him into power. He told irukkanews thus,

“It is disappointing that people should be calling for zoning in a small state like Anambra. Since they are talking about equity and justice. The US Government has discovered a drug-smuggling Tunnel equipped with its own railway and lift at the US border with Mexico.

The Tunnel which is 4,300ft is believed to have been built by El Chapo’s Sinaloa cartel and is recorded as the longest known illicit underground route into the United States.

The drug-smuggling tunnel which is on average 70ft below ground and almost 6ft high and 2ft wide was reportedly built with a ventilation system, high-voltage power cables, and drainage.


According to the Mirror, the tunnel starts in an industrial area of the border city of Tijuana in Mexico, ending in a neighborhood of San Diego, California. where its entrance was found covered by several sandbags.

San Diego customs official Cardell Morant said;

“The sophistication and length of this tunnel demonstrates the time-consuming efforts transnational criminal organizations will undertake to facilitate cross-border smuggling.”

It was also reported that El Chapo, whose real name is Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera sent some men to Germany to learn how to construct such underground passages to take millions of pounds’ worth of drugs into the US.

Back in February, the famous drug lord was found guilty of 10 charges, including drug trafficking and money laundering by a federal court in New York.

In July 2019, El Chapo was handed a life imprisonment sentence, ending his notorious and brutal criminal career after he was recaptured in 2016 and extradited to the US.

A cross section of Nigerians have called on Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe to be wary of President Muhammadu Buhari`s attacking dogs who would go to any length to do him in.

Speaking while reacting to the call by the senator for Buhari to resign,they said that the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC)and the Department of State Security(DSS),would be working round to clock to see what they would use to intimidate and persecute the senator.



According to him, the call for the president to resign is not out of place since security is one of the major planks on which he was voted to power. They said that since the president has failed to deliver on the reason why he was voted into power,he should resign.

Samson Elehor said that though Senator Abaribe spoke the minds of the majority of Nigerians, he should watch his back because the EFCC and DSS would want rubbish. He said that the main reason why people voted for Buhari in 2015 was because as a retired military general ,they felt that he would be better on the issue of security than Goodluck Jonathan.

According to him, since Buhari has failed in that regard, he should resign.

His words,

“I want to say that Senator Abaribe has stirred the hornet nest with the call that President Buhari should resign. Though what he said is the mind of the majority of Nigerians, the attacking dogs of the president, the EFCC and the DSS must come after him. They would not leave any stone unturned till they get something to persecute him. President Buhari has failed on all the planks that he ran for the office of the president. Insecurity is now worse than before. The Boko Haram that we were told would be defeated within two months is still waxing strong after five years. Our economy is in a mess. Nigeria today is the poverty capital of the world. We have even overtaken both China and India who have population of a billion plus”.

Contributing ,Blessing Chukwuka described Senator Abaribe as a very courageous person. According to her,if somebody is found wanting in a responsibility, the honorable to do is to resign. She said that since Buhari has failed to delivered on his promises to Nigerians, he has no business staying in office even a day longer. Speaking further, she said that if a referendum is hold today on whether Buhari should stay or leave office, a greater number of Nigerians would vote for him to leave.

She said that all those criticizing Senator Abaribe for telling Buhari to resign are either hypocrites or living in denial.

President Muhammadu Buhari has named Mr. Edward Adamu as Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.

This new development comes barely 24 hours after the President announced the replacement for FIRS’s Fowler with a northerner, a move criticized by Nigerians.
President Buhari has, however, written to the Senate seeking for the screening and confirmation of the new AMCON chairman.

The letter which was read at Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President, Dr. Ahamd Lawan, is reproduced below;

“In accordance with Section 10(1) of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) Act, 2010, I hereby present Mr. Edward Lametek Adamu for confirmation as Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria by the Distinguished Senate.
“While hoping that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

Buhari had appointed Banire as AMCON Chairman in July 2018.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna State has upheld the election of Abdullahi Ganduje as duly elected Governor of Kano State.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate had on April 11 filed a petition at the Appeal Court against the October 2nd judgment of the election petition tribunal.


The election petition tribunal had upheld the election of Ganduje of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the March 24 supplementary election held in some electoral wards in Kano State.

However, in a unanimous judgment delivered on the petition on Friday, a five-man panel of the court led by Justice Tijjani Abubakar dismissed the appeal by the PDP and its governorship candidate, Abba Yusuf.

The court affirmed the October 2nd judgment of the Kano State Governorship Election Tribunal, which had dismissed the petition by PDP and its candidate, challenging Ganduje’s victory at the supplementary election.

It could be recalled that the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal led by Justice Halima Shamaki had in its unanimous judgment on October 2nd, dismissed the petition filed by the PDP and Yusuf on grounds that the petitioners failed to prove their claims that the election was marred by irregularities and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

The tribunal also held that INEC was right in declaring the March 9 election in Kano State inconclusive and also in declaring Ganduje the winner of the supplementary election held on March 23.

The lower court also said that declaring an election as inconclusive where there are lawful reasons is constitutional.
