A young girl was allegedly beaten to death by her half-sister for bedwetting in Lekki, Lagos.

According to the deceased father, the 13-year-old girl identified as Precious Omenka was reportedly staying with her stepmother, Seki Eko and half-sister, Nneka in Lekki, Lagos when her half-sister brutally beat her for bed wetting that led to her death.

The deceased father, Mr. Emeka Omenka, said he had Nneka out of wedlock with Seki Eko. He later got married, and his wife Ifeoma raised Nneka as her own as she found it hard conceiving her first child.

Mr Emeka Omenka said his older daughter Nneka asked that her younger sister Precious pays her a visit.

"Precious went to Nneka’s house in Ikota, Lekki on October 12, but was returned on October 16 looking weak with complaints of body pains. She told us that she had been beaten by Nneka and her mother Seki Eko for wetting the bed.

Mr. Omenka said Precious gave details of how she was kicked in the stomach, chest, and sides several times. She added that she was beaten with a mop stick and a cable as well.

Precious, a JSS 3 student, was taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Ebute Metta where she died on October 25 from complications resulting from the beating she allegedly received from her half-sister Nneka and Nneka's mother.

According to The Nation, Precious' death certificate revealed that the primary and secondary causes of death were Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Cardiopulmonary Collapse.

Reacting to his daughter's death, Mr. Omenka said:

"I am in pain. My heart is broken. Nneka is my first daughter. I had her out of wedlock with one Seki Eko I was in a relationship with. Nneka was trained by my wife Ifeoma who loved her like her own child.

"When I got married to my wife, it was difficult for her to conceive and so she brought up Nneka like her own child. So, when she came and said Precious should come to her place, we did not have any reason to deny her request.

"Her husband lives in Dubai. She promised to send her to a private school to appreciate my wife for taking care of her.

"Precious went to her place on October 12. It was that weekend that it rained all through. Then, on October 14, which was a Monday, it also rained and Precious said she peed on the bed. That was her offence that made my daughter and her mother to descend on her like that.

"When they finished, they brought her back and dumped her at my place in Apapa Road, Ebute Metta. She was complaining of body pains and narrated what happened to her at her sister’s place in tears. I could not bear it and I wept as she was talking.

"My wife and I bought painkillers that we gave her. My wife was also using hot water and cloth to massage her body. We did not know that it was so bad. When we saw that she was not getting better despite the painkillers, we decided to take her to FMC because that’s where she was born.

"She was already stooling on her body, and her mother was cleaning it. So, at the hospital, she was rushed to the emergency room after the doctors said she was short of blood. They did so many tests and scans and discovered that she was bleeding internally and that her bladder burst too.

"She was in the hospital some days and was booked for emergency surgery. I was busy running around to raise money to save my daughter’s life. I even borrowed from friends and family members so that she could be saved but at last, we lost her.

"Nneka did not tell me what happened to my daughter and did not even come to the hospital until her relative from her mother’s side who works at the FMC called her to rebuke her. That was when she came and spent about N14,000 on my daughter’s drugs that day.

"I did not go to the police station then because I was busy running around for my daughter to be alright. But after she passed on…my kinsmen advised I report at the station. I went to Denton Police Station and Iponri but they told me it did not happen in their jurisdiction and that I should go to Lekki to report.

"I just sent a message to her husband and told him what she did. My wife has been inconsolable since then.

"I want justice for my daughter. I feel very disappointed that this happened to my family. I want human rights to come and government to investigate this case. Nneka is my daughter but Precious is also my daughter and she did not deserve to die like that," he said.

The Nation reports that Nneka told those around her that her younger sister died as a result of ruptured appendicitis, adding that the girl was ill before she took her to her house.

But the mother of the deceased told the publication that she was still in shock over the incident and denied insinuations that Precious might have been ill.

She said:

"My daughter was very healthy and even cooked for her younger ones that day before following Nneka. Nneka and her mother should explain what happened to my daughter. Nneka was brought to my house when she was 17 and we trained her at the university. I never did any wrong to her and then, she chose to pay me back this way?"

Meanwhile, a coalition of child advocates has volunteered to take over the case and ensure justice.

Sources at the police station said an order to exhume the teenager’s body would be sought so that autopsy could be conducted.

Police spokesman Bala Elkana confirmed the case was reported at Ajiwe Division in Ajah, adding that the suspects have been arrested.

The men of the Lagos State Police Command has revealed that some of the ladies whose nude pictures were found in Victor Duru`s phone have declined to come forward in order to prosecute the suspect.

According to the Police, some of the ladies who were contacted declined to push for the case, saying that they want to be left alone.

The suspect, Victor Duru, a Madonna University drop out was arrested last week Thursday for repeatedly taking nude pictures of girls at gunpoint and blackmailing them for money.

The 23 years old man who is a protocol officer at a new generation church located at Oregun Ikeja, Lagos State was arrested at Ijeshatedo, Surulere and later transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department(SCID),  Panti, Yaba, Lagos, where he is currently being held for more investigation.

According to a police report, nemesis caught up with the suspect when one of the girlfriends, name withheld, whose pictures he had taken in conjunction with his friend at gunpoint while lodging her in a hotel in Ijeshatedo called at RRS Headquarter to report her experience.

The report has it that Police arrested the suspected and preliminary investigation revealed that he has been using the nude photographs of his girlfriend to blackmail her in exchange for money.

It was also discovered that the suspect was keeping the nude photographs of other girls while lodging them in hotels and his apartment in Ijeshatedo.

“The suspect obtained the nude photographs of the victim with the assistance of a third party at gunpoint while there is a growing suspicion that Duru also laced the drink of another girl with sleeping drug as the photographs obtained from one of his mobile phones revealed”.

On interrogation, Duru said that the girl in question is a member of his church and also his girlfriend adding that they have been dating for almost two years.

His words,

“she was my girlfriend. We are from the same church member. We have been dating for almost two years. We were having break up issues. So, I invited her to an hotel in Ijeshatedo. I excused myself and invited my friend, Frank Obinna, to meet me in the hotel. Obinna and I had planned this together.The gun was a toy gun. He entered the hotel room and held the lady at gun point. I told her to co –operate, naked her for Obinna to take her pictures. We took seven different shots of her in the nude with my phone. I discharged her that day. This was in September”.

Speaking further ,he said , “by early October, 2019, I called her to give me N80,000 or I would throw the nude photographs online. She was only able to offer me N10,000, which she transferred into my brother’s account.Last week, Obinna called her again and requested for N40,000. She promised to send something. She was a wonderful girl that had been assisting me before the problem started. On many occasions, she has assisted me financially”.

Duru, it was gathered attempted to escape from police custody in handcuffs while police were trying to effect the arrest of his accomplice, Frank Obinna in Ijeshatedo.

The victim, in her statement to the police, alleged that she thought Duru’s friend was a waiter when he entered their hotel room.

“He brought out his phone, I was asking my boyfriend what was going on, he slapped me telling me to remove the blanket covering my body.

I refused. He dragged it out of my body telling me to cooperate. I refused again. He asked his friend for the gun threatening that I cooperate.

His friend took several shots of my nude. Both of them abandoned me in the hotel room after.

I asked him almost a week after what he wanted to do with my photos and he told me that it was the beginning.

The following Saturday, he threatened to put the photos online unless I pay N80,000 in order to delete them. I paid N10,000 with a promise to pay the balance afterward.”

She added “after a week, his friend called me offering another option for me to pay him N40,000 and a night with him. I refused. He threatened that I would hear from them very soon”.

Some of the ladies whose nude photographs were found on his phone when contacted by the police to come forward in order to prosecute the suspect declined to push for a case.

The suspect along with some of the exhibits recovered from him (a toy gun, mobile phones containing the nudes of the ladies have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti for further investigations.

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Kaduna State wing, pleaded with kaduna teachers yet to receive their salary to exercise patience.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the appeal by NUT followed ongoing mobilization for a protest by newly recruited teachers some of whom were not paid for up to five months.

The State NUT chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Sirajo, in a statement issued to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna, pleaded with the teachers to exercise patience as the union and government were working to settle the issues.

“It should be noted that some LGEA teachers have started enjoying the new minimum wage. We are also assuring teachers that the October salaries have been approved for prompt payment.

“The union also wishes to disassociate itself from a planned protest by some groups of aggrieved teachers on the issue of the delay in the payment of the September salaries.

“The union is not and will never be part of such protest. Therefore, those having the intention to do so should desist,” the state NUT chairman said.

Sirajo also dismissed the rumor going around about the NUT Endwell subscription being raised to N4,000, saying it was false.

He added that the union would consult widely if there was a need to raise any charges as was done in the past.

“While the union pleads with teachers to stay calm and face their jobs diligently, we assure all our members of our resolve to protect their interests at all levels as we engage government to find a lasting solution to their problems,” the chairman stated.

Imo state senators, Ifeanyi Araraume, Rochas Okorocha and Hope Uzodinma gang-up against Hon.Emeka Ihedioha, grand illusion-Imolities

Imo State indigenes under the aegis of Imo Peoples Assembly (IPA), has said that the gang up of Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and Senator Hope Uzodinma against the governor of Imo State, Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha would be an exercise in futility.

Reports had it that after Imo Governorship Election Tribunal affirmed that Emeka Ihedioha was duly elected in the March 9, governorship election, Araraume, Okorocha, and Uzodinma have been having secret meetings on how to unite in case Appeal Court orders for a re-run of the governorship election.

Information gathered had it that the trio had decided to use Senator Araraume as a consensus candidate if that should happen.

Reacting to this development, the President of Imo Peoples Assembly, Prince Ignatius Ozaraebuka said that what they are planning can never work.

According to him, Imo indigenes have put the governorship election behind them and moved on.
He said that even if the governorship election is conducted 20 times, Ihedioha would still defeat a combination of Araraume, Okorocha, and Uzodinma.

Speaking further, he said that it is very unfortunate that upon how the trio castigated themselves during the election, they could still come together to start conspiring against the people of Imo State.

His words,

“We have heard that Araraume, Uzodinma, and Okorocha are holding nocturnal meetings in Abuja against the good people of Imo State. They are plotting on how to take us back again.

But we the people of Imo State are not disturbed. We are waiting for them. We have also heard that the disgraced immediate former governor, Rochas Okorocha is planning to bankroll Araraume who they want to adopt as a consensus candidate in case the Appeal court orders for a re-run of the governorship election.

However, we know that the majority of Ndi-Imo voted massively for Rt.Hon.Ihedioha in the March election and we will do it again and again. The evil conspiracy against the good people of Imo cannot work. We are happy with Ihedioha. We are happy with the power rotation and we are also happy that the governor started well.

In his contribution, the secretary of the organization, Mrs Stella Ogwuegbu said that Araraume, Okorocha, and Uzodinma have reconciled while their supporters in Imo State are still not in talking terms with one another.

According to her, it showed they never meant well for the people of Imo State.
She said that Imo people have settled for Ihedioha, adding that nothing can change their decision.

“Okorocha swore that over his dead body would Senator Araraume rule Imo State and now he is planning to use Imo state money to bankroll Araraume governorship re-run election. But God is on the throne. There will not be any re-run. Ihedioha won the election free and square. Election tribunal has affirmed it and Appeal court will also affirm it because it is the will of the people.”

Another explosion in Enugu-Onitsha expressway, barely 24hours the last Onitsha inferno happened

Following the Onitsha Inferno, there has been another fire outbreak in Anambra state.

The explosion reportedly happened at 3 am along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway by Bessoy Filling station.

According to Punch, The tanker carrying petrol was said to have fallen in the middle of
the road, spilling its content into the drainage.

This resulted in the destruction of buildings, vehicles and other valuables.  No casualty was recorded as of the time of filing the report.
