Nairaland / General / Re: Help Bring Tosin Home **important** by nanidee(f): 9:46pm On Dec 14, 2011 |
To know that such a young and beautiful black lady with incredible potential is missing and there is nothing about it on google or on the news is extremely devastating. However, thanks to the internet, I know we can do something about it. Spread the news. I am hoping we can use the social media to circulate this news and help bring her back home. We might not be powerful enough to have this on every TV news channel, but I believe we can use the power of the internet to bring Tosin back home. Pls, post this link and let people see her face. Make sure every friend or family member of yours does the same. If you see her anywhere or have any information, please call 911 and alert the police in your vicinity. If the news media will not do it, we will use the resources that we have to spread the word. Everyone is praying and fasting for her return but I know we have to take action and broadcast the word; I believe God uses people to answer prayers. I believe she will be found by God's grace. Let us use the power of the internet to let the world know about her, hopefully find her and bring her back home to her loving family and friends! Here is a link to her pharmacy school profile - http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/pharmacy_services/residency/residents/2011_12/oyelowo.html And here is an article about her winning a scholarship from the Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation - http://readme.readmedia.com/Olutosin-Oyelowo-Receives-Scholarship-from-Alpha-Kappa-Alpha/1882198

Nairaland / General / Help Bring Tosin Home **important** by nanidee(f): 9:44pm On Dec 14, 2011 |
I saw this on my facebook page. Please let us all help in anyway we can. Yesterday, I heard one of the worst news ever. I found out that the beautiful lady whose picture is on the left, Tosin Oyelowo, went missing on Friday, December 9th in Charleston, South Carolina where she is working as a resident after graduating from the University of Charleston West Virginia School of Pharmacy last summer. I never even knew her personally, but I remember seeing her at several events here in Raleigh, NC (where she and her parents have lived for some years since they moved to US from Lagos, Nigeria) including her dad's 50th birthday party some years ago. I remember noticing her beautiful skin and calm persona. To hear that she went missing few days ago is very shocking and painful. If I didn't even know her personally but I'm crying as I am typing this, then I can't even imagine what her parents, family and friends are going through right now. The news was sent to me as a prayer request text from a friend of mine. I, immediately, called him back to find out what happened and he told me. Heartbreaking, to say the least. My friend mentioned that he had done a google search and there was nothing about it on the news and he felt that it will be great idea to use Facebook and social media, in general, to spread the news and help increase the chance of someone finding her. However, he wasn't too sure if to go ahead and do that on his own. I went ahead and told him that I will go ahead and do something about putting the news out there for everyone to spread since the media will not do it (and we all know why).

Politics / Re: Free Meal For Lagos Pupils by nanidee(f): 9:24pm On Dec 14, 2011 |
Personally, i dont see the rationale behind this. Besides, i wonder how a largely populated state like Lagos will pull this off. Considering the numerous schools in Lagos, the project will be abandoned in little or no time. I can imagine that the quality of the food will be sooooo low, that even the 'hungry' children will refuse it. Let the government improve the standards of living, and the people in turn can adequately cater for their children. Tackle the issue of unemployment, and poverty would be reduced, once poverty is reduced, hunger would follow suit, and the children can learn with 'heavy stomachs' |

This is a nice topic and very also very constructive decisions. Problem is that Nigeria in particular has a very long way to go with regards to formulation and implementation of policies that could remould the country's future for the better. Wε have a lot of old cargos in the helm of affairs who don't know sh*it, and wouldn't employ the services of those that know. TĦey are far behind in issues like this, and would not have great minds as consultants, since tĦey themselves live in the stone age. I have a belief that if only Nigeria has good, vissionary leaders, in little or no time, Nigeria would actually be the 'giant of Africa' in the real sense of the word. I mean, there are huge potentials in that country, but those at the helm of affairs are mainly 'clueless'. Let's even leave out all the huge amounts of capital constantly 'moved' by these politicians, and what use those monies could be put to. Infact let's consider other areas that could help develop this nation, apart from this over reliance on oil. The tourism industry for one seems to be left unattended to. Nigeria doesn't seem to know what iτ̅ can gain from tourism. There are so many things to see all across the country. Each region has its own beauty, which if properly harnessed, developed, maintained and marketed, could lead to a massive influx of capital to the country. The beauty of the rocks and ancient wonders in the west, the greenry and the rainforest in the Niger Delta, the natural beautiful lakes and vegetation in the east and whatever tĦey have in the north , could all spell a lot for Nigeria. Looking at how Dubai transformed to a tourist haven leaves little to imagine what Nigeria would have been like, with all its natural resources. If Dubai can be as beautiful with almost everything there being man-made, how much more Nigeria? This translates to the govt. Being able to invest in its people, to create an enabling environment for people to receive proper education. Individuals cannot do all these alone. Its here that a collective effort is required in order to boost the country to unimaginable heights. Where the youths are willing and desperate for a change, and the old cargos in power are not willing, but more interested in looting, then . . . |

Are u minding those jokers? TĦey have their own hidden agenda and think tĦey are smart. The truth is that tĦey hide under the canopy of 'one Nigeria', but their intentions and thoughts are wicked. Who exactly are tĦey even trying to deceive? Ochu nwa okuko, nwe ada, nwa okuko nwere . . . |
Education / Re: Don’t Name UNN After Ojukwu, Alumni Warn FG by nanidee(f): 11:10am On Dec 14, 2011 |
Obviously, a lot of people are pained that an institution - 'university of Nigeria', happens to be in Nsukka. That exactly is the problem. TĦey would prefer that a University of Nigeria should not be in Nsukka, thats why tĦere's been a desperate need for the name change. Nothing like immortalizing Ojukwu here. |

“Ojukwu as a person came ahead of his time; Ikemba lived ahead of his time and Ikemba died ahead of his time; because his visions, his views are yet to be realized but I believe that surely they will be realized and it is then that Nigerians will appreciate him better. That says iτ̅ all. |

This is nice. I like his determination, despite the fact that he didn't relent despite all the discouragement. All his 'discouragers' should be ashamed of themselves right now. This is the same way that this silly Nigeria has lost lots of brains. All you see is them glorifying empty brains and giving national awards to cretins. Smh! This same Nigeria would in the future look for this technology, and would probably pay heavily, when tĦey could have done a lot for him/invested in him before now. Kudos to the Malaysian school that helped him acheive his dreams. Nigerian government would proudly claim this is one of theirs now, and the most annoying part is that the school where he lectured will start claiming to have foistered this. Good thing he exposed them first. Good ridance to bad rubbish!! |

Politics / Re: Nigerians, Think by nanidee(f): 6:55am On Dec 11, 2011 |
Lol @ reacting to stimuli. If a good number of people react to stimuli, then I dare say part of our problems would be solved. Because most of the problems present in Nigeria now are as a result of complacency. Its still boils down to the 'ee go better' syndrome, because for there to be a 'reaction to stimulus', iτ̅ means that there is an awareness of bad decisions made. In order words, even in a situation where tĦey have not sat down to analyze the effect of their decisions in the long-run, tĦey are already aware of the poor choices made, which brings ♍e back to my original question. - 'after thinking then what next'. I dare say that up untill now, Nigerians have had their leaders imposed on them, which everyone is aware of. For so many years, the Nigerian populace accepted whatever was metted to them. Most people have come to realise that these leaders do not have the interest of the people at heart, but assume power to fulfill their own personal greed. Nigerians are aware of the monies looted by these cronies, and the many problems that would have been solved with these lootings. TĦey are aware of what this means for the future of their own children. TĦey know that the country has been run-down by terrible leaders, tĦey are fully aware of what the OP has mentioned, which is one reason you see people rejoicing and cursing at any misfortune that befalls people in government. TĦey rejoice at the demise of those in the chains of power, because tĦey have taken the time to think/realise evrything the OP talked about. If all Nigerians had been 'reacting to stimuli', then Nigeria wouldn't be in the mess iτ̅ is today, which has been caused by taking a seat and watching, while the situation gets worse. Watching excerpts from the last election, I could see the passion with which Nigerians wanted change, how tĦey craved good governance and trust-worthy leaders. I even watched observed that so many Nigerians spoke towards a better society where their children could have a better life. Why? Because tĦey have thought of previous governments, and are aware of what the future holds if such people were allowed to continue in power. There was a hunger for change because tĦey were just fed-up. Now, as events unfold, Nigerians are more WELL AWARE of the declining rate of the country, tĦey are aware of who gets to reap the consequences of bad governance, tĦey are aware of all these and much more, but then, what are tĦey doing about iτ̅ ? what next? |
