Same DISCOs are entering into bilateral agreements with GENCOs for more supply of energy. But let’s do a quick analysis of the value chain. Gencos will buy gas for generating energy at the prevailing exchange rate and sell at the same rate plus their margin (profit). No ....

The issue of prepaid meters is another one I don’t even want to go into. Truth is, all the stakeholders including the masses need to have a discussion on the way forward. We all have very important to play to make the sector work.

My question is this. Why didn't does that bought the discos do proper due diligence?

Assuming they did and realized the extent of the rot and the amount of money they needed to fix things, they could have declined to buy it and let the government continue running it. Things may have turned out differently.

Is it possible that these discos were just sold off to government officials, their friends or cronies? Thinking that it's like any other business that would automatically keep making them billions?

Meters aren't the problem cos bypassing is paramount with nigerians.... The load rejection is the main thing, cos if u give meter and reject load, u lose both ways....

Nigerians grin
There are effective solution to bypassing.

I want in Ghana recently. I observed that all customers there were metered. Even in the villages. The meters are even very accessible to anyone but still, no theft or bypassing.

If 'small Ghana' can do it, then big Nigeria can do it as well.

lol at 7000mw. What do you think is the maximum capacity of TCN? There is no available 7000mw anywhere Oga

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/more-news/240258-nigerias-current-electricity-generating-capacity-6803-mw-fashola.html

Remember that Azura came on stream this year with 460MW installed and available.

I would have agreed but I am an insider. The discos are quite poor and have no clue about what they are running.
A disco gets a bill of 8billion monthly from NBET(excluding interest charges) but only collects roughly 4.2billion from customers.
They pay NBET just 2.5billion and keep the rest. Out of 1.5, they have a labour and mtce fee of roughly 1billion. That leaves just 500m for expanding the network. Its not enough.

So we can all agree that no one should expect any significant improvement in power supply in Nigeria as long as we have same set of discos.

You are right. Discos are clueless about the business and I'm guessing you already know why.

Like really? Who buys a disco without knowing what's on ground and what's required to make it run?

Nevee:

How bro? I do not know where you got that 7000MW from but know that actual energy generated differs from generating capacity. Since energy cannot be stored, if the DISCOs distribute far below what they got from the grid as you have suggested, it is their own loss because they have to pay for a service they are not selling. Most of the DISCOs have expressed their willingness to exit the system time and time again, should government be ready to refund a part of their investments in the sector. The government is still the biggest bottleneck of the Power sector. But then again, they seem helpless. The only policies that can palcate the rot in the Energy sector, if enacted, will seem anti-people.

Let me give you an example.

TCN says 'Disco A' should take 700MW and distribute/sell to customers.

'Disco A' says no and takes only 300MW (load rejection), intentionally leaving many other customers without power.

One common ridiculous and unacceptable reason for this load rejection is 'they can't collect the bill for 700MW' from customers. Same discos that intentionally won't give customers prepaid meters.

Discos are not ready to do real electricity business in Nigeria. They are just profiting from a broken system via estimated billing with apparently no intention to improve their network and capacity.

You would have been right except you missed the wheeling capacity of TCN which is roughly 5GW(even that is a doubt now as some section of the grid are not adequately maintained)

TCN is actually trying. They are working on their transmission capacity. I think it should be around 5000 - 6000MW.

Discos haven't done anything significant to increase their distribution capacity. Nothing at all. Nothing!

Lagos is not developing! It's better than most states but things are falling apart in Lagos.

No motorable roads!
Poor waste management!
Still having danfos in 2018!
No public water supply!
Poor electricity supply!
Traffic is getting worse!

Please where is the development

I keep wondering where the billion in IGR and FG allocation is spent

And for facks sake that does not look like a 'modern ferry terminal'. I won't be surprised if billions was spent for building this thing.

Bedc eedc both are scarm and are not worthy to handle any power distribution.

This is partly a result of when you sell such critical publics asset to yourself and your 'friends and cronies' who have no idea of how the electricity industry works.

Their protest should be against the minister of Darkness Fashola, as BEDC and other distribution companies in Nigeria only distribute what has been generated and transmitted to them. What sector is even working under this government of the dullard?

Actually.... Discos are the weakest link in the electricity industry. Their performance is appalling and grossly inadequate.

Available generation capacity is about 7000MW but discos can/will only distribute about 3500MW due to their inadequacies and inefficiencies.

So there's a large generation capacity under-utilisation due to discos.

IVF technology didn't just drop from the sky. It was painstakingly developed by real people. It's not perfect, it's still developing. Several parameters determine the probably of success of IVF. You can read more about it.

There's nothing like God factor.

It's called probability and statistics. You can study a bit of it.

Nigerians will never give credit to where it is due. What you guys only know is to be shouting god up and down while other societies are busy spending money on new research.

Does your god really need your praise?

Give credit to the doctors and scientists that made this possible. You can also donate to research institutes.

Then why didn't she just stick to keep trying the natural way? Or she needed IVF to 'assist' the miracle?

Fellow Nigerians.
It has become obvious that its only God that can deliver this nation from the evil hold of apc.

As for those who in 2015 voted APC and said, "we will vote out Jonathan and PDP and vote in Buhari, if he doesn't perform, we will vote him out", I hope you now see the stupidity and where your foolishness has landed us all. Come and vote them out.

As for me and my household, we have agreed that if Buhari and apc win in 2019, we will leave Nigeria for you all to enjoy the fruits of your stupidity

Solve your goddamn problems and stop putting it all on 'God'. This mentality of "only god can deliver us" sickens me. I believe its a sign of mental laziness.

The country you will run to did not sit back and say 'only god can solve our problems'. They actually came together and solved their problems!. undecided
