This is a wonderful thread. Pls how can I grow my front hair? pls pls pls its urgent. I resolve to fixing always because of my front hair and i dont like it.
Hi dear, fixing will only worsen issues and cause the hairline to recede even further. Try to purchase Hair Trigger Elixir available on sizzelle.com and apply to hairline as directed. Invest in a good wig so you can care for your hair easily.

How I switch up my natural hair coils with bendy rollers.
Products used.
- Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo
- Tresemme Conditioner
- SheaMoisture Purification Masque.
- Pantene Relaxed and Natural wrap and set lotion....you can substitute with LottaBody
- 21 bendy rollers.
- Wide Tooth Comb
- Denman D41 brush

I shampooed first, then D.C with SheaMoisture for 20mins and cowashed it out with Tresseme.

Then I blotted my hair dry.
Made small sections and sprayed on Pantene, detangled with wide tooth and smoothened with Denman then wrapped around the bendies.

Allowed to set overnight, then took down for curls. Here's my results.

rubi96: how i can i make my little niece's hair sidelines grow. it hair just seems to be growing only at the center. she's five.
Hi dear, I have a niece with a similar problem. She's four. We had to cut her hair and start a daily application of Nappygirl Pudding which I make. Now it's growing out evenly. You can substitute with a daily application of castor oil. It should be applied on clean scalp for effectiveness.

ades0la: Hello, i've got two problems which are: Hair breakage and hair loss please how do I stop these and start having healthy hair? cry
Common causes of hairloss and breakage not medically related include
- Dehydration
- Dryness
- Tight braids and weaves
- Use of harsh products such as alcohol based gels and sprays
- Consistent use of wigs and weaves without protection of hair
- Friction from towels, cotton sheets etc
- Use of wrong styling tools such as close toothed combs and brushes
- Wrong washing and detangling methods
- Chemical overprocessing of hair and scalp
- consistent use of heat styling tools
- constant hairstyling without a break.

If you take note of these problems in your routine, your hairloss and breakage can be controlled.
Hallo, its the gentelle one. you can use it for any hair type. i dnt think it was made specifically for unrelaxed hair. i think a lot of the products that we use for our hair can be used for any hair type. you just have to find the one that works for you. and i always feel that looking specifically for one type of hair product for natural or relaxed hair will limit you. because, a time will come when you cannot find some of these 'special' products.

anyways, i've tried all sorts of things to get a clearer picture of my hair i used for the wedding. the album is still not out yet so, i hope you get the general idea from this picture. smiley
This is simple and elegant. Your hair looks really healthy. I'm glad you found products that work for you.

While I agree that some products work both for natural and relaxed African hair....most especially if they have natural ingredients....some products are more suitable for relaxed hair than natural hair and vice versa. Relaxed hair need products with reconstructing ingredients (such as proteins and silicones) since the hair fibre has been compromised which if used on natural hair could weigh it down, lead to protein overload etc. since the natural hair fibre is intact.

One doesn't really need to hunt for products since most of the 'special' hair care products can be substituted with locally sourced ones. For example, sulfate free shampoos can be substituted with liquid black soap. The ready made products just make it easier to care for your hair if you have limited time and patience.

How important is it to know your hair type?
Knowing your hair type is important to
- select suitable products for your hair (a real money saver)
- select the best styling methods and tools for your hair
- grow your hair long and healthy.

Some people can chemically relax their hair and it won't change colour, lose volume or break away. Their hair is as strong and as healthy as the day they first relaxed. Others begin to face stagnant hair growth, discoloration, hair loss and thinning even when they use the same relaxers as the former. This is due to difference in hair types.

Some people can heat style daily with no problems while others face heat damaged tresses.

Some people can do nothing special to their hair and see growth while others need special products to strenghten their hair and retain growth. Just as our faces are different, our hair types are different.

So, how can you tell your hair type?

The most popular hair typing system used is the Andre Walker classification. It groups hair into four types:-

Type 1 (straight hair)
Type 2 (wavy hair)
Type 3 ( curly hair)
Type 4 ( kinky hair)

Most Nigerians have type 4 hair which is kinky hair.
Personally, I only find this classification system useful to give someone who hasn't seen my hair an idea of what it 'looks' like.
This is because my hair might 'look like' someone else's hair but behave in a totally different way in the same conditions.
That's why I try asking several questions to better understand your hair texture when a request is made for a NappyGirl Kit.

Here's a tip to knowing your natural hair curl/coil pattern (if you have natural hair)
- Wash your hair free of products using a mild shampoo or shampoo bar.
- Blot hair until damp, then apply a deep conditioner to your hair and cover with a cap for 5-20mins.
This is to intensely moisturise your hair.
- With the conditioner still in your hair, smooth several strands of hair between your fingers until they clump together and release.
Note your curl/coil pattern and size of each coil.
Are your coils 's' shaped or 'o' shaped like a pen spring?
How big are your coils?

Next thing to know is the porosity of your hair. (Relaxed and natural)
The more porous your hair, the more likely it is to get wet fast, get dry faster and drink in products. Porous hair needs moisturising products that keep the hair moisturised for longer. It also takes up dyes and chemical relaxers fast and is prone to breakage.
The less porous your hair is, the harder it is to relax, moisturise, dye and products take a longer time to sink in. This type of hair is stronger than more porous hair and less susceptible to breakage.
To know your porosity, take a clean strand of hair (no oils, moisturisers etc on it). Place it in a glass of clean water and note how long it takes to sink. If it floats longer than 10 secs, you can roughly conclude you have low porosity hair. If it sinks in less time, you have varying degrees of medium-high porous hair.

These are just a few tests to determine the best products, methods and tools to grow and retain length in your hair.

gianni: NappilyNigerian, apart from oiling your braids, do you also oil your scalp after wiping?
I apply oil to my scalp only if my scalp feels dry. I use those babywipes with cream. If your scalp feels dry after wiping you can apply oil to your scalp and massage in until fully absorbed.

Jade William: Hi peeps.I hope I'm welcomed 2d chat room.Pls o I hav som questions. Is coconut oil d same as palm kernel oil?&whch one is alma oil&mustard oil? Where is it sold?

2ndly,is castor oil d ones sold in supermarkts dat's in cream form?

3rdly,how can I grow my baby girl's hair? Sh's goin to 2.Her hair breaks a lot.I barbed it wen sh was a year but it stil didn't grow 2gether.Now i usually plait it wit wool&want 2giv braids a break 4now&grow her natural hair if I get good hair recipe frm here.Whch hair shampoo, conditioner&products wil help wit hair growth?
Hi, you're always welcome and more. Coconut oil is different from palm kernel oil. Coconut oil comes from coconuts while palm kernel oil comes from the Palm fruit. The palm fruit is the one used to get red palm oil. Palm Kernel Oil is gotten from the seed/nut within the palm fruit and is dark brown (if roasted ) to very light yellow (if cold pressed).
Both oils are similar chemically which is why you can use one or/and the other.
They help strengthen the hair within and are beneficial to hair growth.

The castor oil sold in cream form is not the pure castor oil. It has simply been added. The castor oil (which is viscous and light yellow) you want is the one found in pharmacies usually as a laxative. This is just one of the uses of castor oil. It is also good for encouraging hair growth and for acne.

For your daughter's hair, it seems to be too fragile for the weight of extensions and I'd advise styling her hair as is.
I'll have to know your current products and regimen to know what's causing the problem of breakage. Pls send me a mail on nappilynigeriangirl@gmail. com so we'll discuss further.

How to grow your hairline after damage. This recipe takes a month or two to see results and is my go to recipe if all else fails. I don't use it often so my hair doesn't get used to it and then it stops working and I have to try out another recipe. This particular one took me months to formulate.

1 tbs of Chinese balm + 1 multivitamin capsule contents + 2 tbs each of olive oil, coconut oil and amla oil + 1 tsp of sulfur ointment.
Apply this mixture on freshly washed scalp and everyday to hairline and thinning areas until it grows out.
Once it grows, discontinue and maintain new growth with suitable products.

Egba girl: nice nice!! Thanks for that. Will get the castor and olive oil asap. I have coconut oil already. Going to get braids in but will apply that to my front everyday.
If you want less breakage by the time you take down your braids, deep condition your hair a day or two before. Then the day you want to braid, apply the castor oil mix from root to ends. Also make sure it isn't braided too tight.

NappilyNigerian: NATURAL HAIR STYLING TIPS

BEFORE THE BIG DAY
Styling your natural hair for your wedding day doesn't mean you don't need to pamper your hair as you'll pamper your skin...

Before your big day, make sure your hair is ubermoisturised. When your hair is properly moisturised, it will hold styles well, be more defined and won't frizz up easily. No one wants frizzy hair on their wedding day....

Cleanse your hair and scalp with a moisturising creamy cleanser. Another moisturising option for cleansing your hair is using a cleansing mask such as Bentonite or Rhasshoul clay...

Follow up the cleansing with a deep conditioning mix to hydrate your hair. This is a time to treat whatever hair issues you have with your hair. Incorporate the necessary oils, herbs and natural products into the deep conditioning mix.
It's your wedding, make sure you use the best. Don't skimp on quality.

Follow up the deep conditioning with a hair and scalp massage using stimulating and moisturising oils to trap in moisture within the cortex of the hair.
If properly done, your hair should be soft, silky with well hydrated coils.

fexichi: I have been transitioning for 18 months now. i dont have a regimen as its hard for me to get good products . please what products do you recommend? my hair is thick and not very easy to tame. I do need your help. thanks!
Where do you stay? If it's possible you can order some products online. For transitioning hair, you need products that will hydrate your hair and provide good slip for easy detangling.
Recommended products are
Keracare Cleansing Cream or As I Am Cowash cleanser for shampoo.
For conditioners, I recommend Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Conditioner or Aussie Moist 3 Minute Conditioners. The slip is amazing.
For leave in conditioner, I recommend Cantu Shea Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream. a little goes a long way and when absorbed keeps most Nigerian natural hair soft.
For oil depending on how thick your hair is, I recommend grape seed or jojoba oil if your hair is very fine or castor/coconut oil/ Shea butter if your hair is medium to thick stranded.

Hope this helped. For more info, pls go to www.nappilynigeriangirl..com

I've been thinking about the ultimate protective style that will keep my hair hidden but look fabulous.

While braids and twists with extensions are good protective styles, the problem is that your hair strands are still exposed within the extensions and when the braiders are trying to neaten it with the scissors, they snip off some hair that managed to escape at the sides.
A lot of that and you lose a lot of length. This is in addition to the extensions being heavy and being braided too tight.

So what styles do I think are at least 99% protective?

Yarn wraps,
Crochet weaves
Regular weaves
Marley braids or twists (no snips to smoothen anything and they are chunky enough to hide your hair)
Wigs

These keep your hair completely hidden away from the elements.

Runner ups,

Yarn braids
Box braids
Senegalese twists
Good ole bun
Inverted beehive ( protects the ends beautifully, so little breakage)

No, you mustn't go under a steamer to get the full benefits of your DC. Your body heat is sufficient to let your treatments sink in even though you have to wait for las long as 30mins instead of about 15mins with a steamer.

GentleMimi: Hi,NappilyNigerian, pls i really need to run this by u.I read ur posts and browsed the net and came up wif this hair regimen.Pls i need ur opinion...
1. Pre-shampoo with a warm mixture of olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil and coconut milk, cover with a shower cap overnight.
2. Shampoo wash
3. rinse with ACV dilution,leave for 5mins
4. condition with a mixture of my hair fruits conditioner, honey, coconut oil and olive oil(cover with a shower cap for 30 mins).Rinse off.
5. Seal with a mix of emillymillonaire and oils
6. an occassional deep conditioning which involves a mixture of natural ingredients such as eggs, honey, avocado, oils etc
7. Daily moisturizing with glycerine,water,emilymillonaire...and finally sealing with coconut oil and shea butter. *sighs*! All this for hair! Na wa oooo.
So what do u think? Any additions or corrections? I want to start this week.
You have a good routine going on, the only thing is that Emily Millionaire works best as a rinse off deep conditioner than a leave in conditioner because it causes build up over time.

Also be sure to warm the honey before use as raw honey has the tendency to lighten your hair. That's why it's good as a spot remover on skin.
