On 31st of October 1990 50 years old Pelé celebrated his birthday by playing against the greatest stars of his time — the opposition included Marco van Basten, Hristo Stoichkov, Enzo Francescoli, Gheorghe Hagi, Oscar Ruggeri, Rene Higuita and many more. Originally Diego Maradona himself was supposed to captain the World Stars XI, but unfortunately he had to miss the game due to an injury.
O Rei was in an incredible physical form for his age and produced a decent performance against world's best players at their career peak. By the way, check out young Cafu on the right — the 20 years old was lucky enough to get the chance to play alongside one of his childhood idols.
Venue: San Siro, Milan Attendance: 20,000 Score: 2-1 to Rest of the World
Michel and Hagi scored for the rest of the world and Jose Neto scored for Brazil.
naptu2: I think I've finally found it! I think this is the match that Sir Bobby was referring to. England had great stars like Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore and Gordon Banks, but Pele destroyed them. Afterwards Jimmy Greaves said, "Pele is on another bloody planet".
The Brazilian football confederation hosted a tournament in 1964 to mark its 50th anniversary. The tournament (just like the Tournoi de France in 1997) was also designed to showcase the favourites for the next World Cup (hosted by England in 1966). The participants were Brazil, Argentina, England and Portugal.

Sir Bobby Charlton once told the BBC World Service why he hated Pele (he didn't really hate him, but you'll soon understand what he meant).
He was one on one with Pele during a match and Pele said, "Goal" and then feinted one way, went in the other direction around Sir Bobby and scored.
That is, he said "Goal" before dribbling Sir Bobby.
naptu2: This was fantastic teamwork. What I've always loved about it is that Pele knew that Jairzinho would be right there. There would have been a lot of calls for fouls and even cards if this happened today.

Brazilian football icon Pele has died at the age of 82
Thursday 29 December 2022
Brazilian football star Pele has died at the age of 82, his agent has told the Associated Press.
The former Santos FC star, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, had been at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sao Paulo since 29 November.
A medical report just before Christmas showed that he needed care for cardiac and renal dysfunction, having been battling colon cancer since September 2021.
Pele - originally named Edson Arantes do Nascimento - began playing for Santos at the age of 15 and the Brazilian national team a year later, bursting onto the world football scene as a 17-year-old in the 1958 World Cup.
During his international career, he won three World Cups - in 1958, 1962 and 1970 - the only player to achieve this.
His role in Brazil's third victory, in Mexico in 1970, has gone down in football folklore, as he played a key role in arguably the sport's greatest ever international team.
His glittering 20-year career from 1957 to 1977 saw him score 757 goals in 831 games, although Santos claim his tally was closer to 1,000.

As usual the deception by supporters of terrorists is very easy to dispel. I'm going to explain it here and I'm even going to explain the excuse that they have not yet used.
Now, some people claim that there is something wrong with this news because they say that this is the third time that the police is announcing that it has arrested or killed the killers of Gulak. That kind of trick cannot work on me because I remember quite well what happened on the day that Ahmed Gulak was killed.
Ipob media warriors, eye witnesses and security agents described what happened. In fact, there were videos of the terrorists that were operating on that day. It wasn't a single terrorist that was operating. In fact, I am going to provide a quote from one of the previous arrest announcements.
“Eye witness account, especially the account given by the driver of the vehicle that was conveying Ahmed Gulak to the airport before the attack, gave a vivid description of the assailants and the vehicles they used in carrying out the attack.
“The assailants were said to have used a silver-coloured Toyota Camry, a golden-coloured Toyota Sienna, a white coloured Toyota Hilux, and a Lexus RX 330 vehicle for the attack.
Does this mean that only one person was driving these 4 vehicles, or is it that there were many people in these 4 vehicles and the police has caught various members of the group at different times?
Deserter trained 1,000 IPOB fighters, killed Gulak – Police
29th December 2022 By Chidiebube Okeoma
The Imo State Police Command on Wednesday paraded a wanted army deserter, Chinwendu Nwangwu, aka Onyearmy.
The spokesperson for the command, Michael Abattam, disclosed that Nwaagwu, who deserted the army after eight years of service, had committed many atrocities.
Abattam said after years of surveillance, the suspect was arrested during his father’s funeral in the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.
He said, “The Imo State Police Command has arrested one of the notorious and vicious IPOB/ESN commander, a deserter from the Nigerian Army, Lance Corporal Nwangwu Chiwendu, aka Onyearmy, 34, who has been on the command’s wanted list and was being trailed for a long time.
“The suspect, whose modus operandi was guerrilla-like, that is, he unleashed surprise terror attacks and went into hiding in neighbouring states, was arrested on December 23, 2022, around 10.30am in his home town, Amahohuru Nguru in Aboh Mbaise LGA, after diligent gathering of both credible and technical intelligence, during his late father’s funeral.
“The suspect sat at a vantage position while his members were on surveillance. On sighting police operatives, they took to their heels, engaging the operatives in a shoot-out, using the crowd as a shield. The gallant police operatives retaliated professionally and tactically to avoid bullets hitting innocent persons in the crowd. He was later arrested after a long chase alongside two of his gang members with bullet injuries, while others escaped.
“Amazingly, he did not sustain any bullet injury; this he attributed to the charms worn all over his body he called ‘Odeshi’ meaning native bullet-proof.”
The police said after searching the suspect’s house, they recovered five pump-action guns; two cut-to-size double-barrelled guns; four locally-made pistols; 50 rounds of live cartridges; nine locally-made hand grenades, ESN regalia and charms and rings.
Nwangwu was alleged to have confessed to training over 1,000 ESN members in weaponry and terror attacks.
He was also said to have confessed to have led attacks on security officers, police stations and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The suspect also allegedly narrated how on May 30, 2021, his gang murdered Ahmed Gulak, the former political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“He confessed that he led the operation and they double-crossed and stopped the Toyota Camry taxi car that was taking him and his friend to the airport and ordered them to come down, shot him but the bullet did not penetrate his body, so he went to him removed the rings on his right fingers, shot and killed him along airport road.
“He led his gang members, including one Okechukwu Duru, and others, to kidnap one Jude Nwahiri on November 4, 2021, and collected a ransom of N21m after killing four persons in the residence of the victim at Amaohuru Nguru in Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State,” the police spokesman added.
Nwangwu was also said to have murdered the traditional ruler of Amaohuru Nguru, Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State, Eze Anyanwu; a native doctor in Amaohuru Nguru, Uzodimma Ahaiwe; one Ugochukwu Olewuike, aka Taco; the youth leader of Amaohuru Nguru; one Krubo; a police inspector and a police sergeant, among others.
On December 25, the suspect reportedly led security agents to a camp in Obowo, where the operatives recovered five GPMG guns; four cut-to-size double-barrelled guns; five pump-action guns; three locally-made bombs; 19 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition; 52 live cartridges; 14 tear gas canisters; two police handcuffs; four safety desert boots; among others.
When interviewed, the suspect confessed to the crime and disclosed that some of their sponsors lived abroad and in the country.

Some might ask how many times have the police caught Onye Army.
Onye Army is obviously a nickname and it has been used by many members of the terrorist group including Emeoyiri Uzoma Benjamin (who was arrested last year) and Nwagwu Chiwendu ( who was arrested a few days ago).
Troops arrest IPOB commander who allegedly killed Gulak
Ahmed Gulak was a political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
By Chinagorom Ugwu December 28, 2022
The Nigerian troops have arrested a deputy commander of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who allegedly killed Ahmed Gulak, a political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, according to PRNigeria.
The suspect, Nwagwu Chiwendu, was arrested on Tuesday during the burial of his father at Mbaise in Imo State, Nigeria’s South-east.
Mr Chiwendu was to be the IPOB’s main trainer in weapon handling, who later rose to become the second in command to Temple, who is now the leader of the group in the state.
The suspect, Mr Chiwendu, was said to have deserted the Nigerian Army, and joined IPOB’s militant wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN), since 21 January.
“He served on OPHK and thus has operational experience. He was arrested yesterday during the burial of his father at Mbaise. He is taking us to their camp tonight at Obowo.
“He confessed to killing Gulak and confirmed that his camp is responsible for kidnapping the two expatriates along Owerri-Okigwe Road and the killing of two police inspectors escorting them.
“They are the ones that also killed our soldiers in the same location and the burning of our Hilux last week. They equally participated in the attack on the INEC office in Owerri. He is currently with the police,” PRNigeria quoted a military source as saying.
Background
Mr Gulak, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, was shot dead by gunmen in Owerri, Imo State, on 30 May 2021.
The attack happened while the politician was on his way to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Owerri, en route to Abuja.
The police in the state would later accuse members of the IPOB and its militant wing, ESN, of being responsible for the killing of the former political adviser.
IPOB is a group leading the agitation for an independent state of Biafra which it wants to be carved out from the South-east and some parts of South-south Nigeria.
