$800m rail will ease cargo movement – Lekki Port
[i]27th December 2022
Promoters of Lekki Deep Seaport, Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited, have said that the $800m rail connection is an integral part of port operations.
The Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise, Laurence Smith, in a chat with The PUNCH in Lagos, said that the rail connection would ensure easier and more effective evacuation of cargoes from the port.
He disclosed that the firm was developing plans to fund the $800m rail connection from the seaport to the rail line.
Smith said 30 per cent of cargoes are evacuated in Europe by rail while 70 per cent are evacuated in North America.
According to him, evacuating cargoes through rail is cheaper and reduces congestion on the road.
“It is cheaper because you can get 100 containers onto a railway system as opposed to one truck carrying a maximum of two 20-foot equivalent units out of the port. So, we are really championing that but we have to look at the mechanisms of funding the rail. The rail itself is quite expensive. So, we need to understand how those mechanisms will work,” he explained.
He also said that the first phase of the truck park would be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2023.
The Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise, Mr Daniel Odibe, said the management of Lekki Port has obtained Federal Government’s approval for the railway from the port to the proposed eastern coastal rail line through Ijebu-Ode. https://punchng.com/800m-rail-will-ease-cargo-movement-lekki-port/

December 27, 2022
By John Alechenu, Abuja
Diran Onifade, the Spokesperson for the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has described comments ascribed to Anambra businessman, Chief Arthur Eze, about the LP candidate as unfortunate but not unexpected.
Onifade said this in a telephone interview with Vanguard, in Abuja, on Tuesday.
He was responding to Eze’s call on Obi to jettison his Presidential ambition because Ndigbo had other plans for now and in the future.
Onifade who made it clear that he was expressing his personal opinion on the subject, said, “It is the influence of people like that that we want to take our politics away from.
“He is part of the establishment and structure that young Nigerians what to take our country back from.
“When we take power from the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress, the likes of Arthur Eze will no longer wield the kind of influence they enjoy today.
“You don’t expect them to take this lying down. Our candidate and our campaign remain focused on the take ahead which is to take back our country, rebuild it to make it take its proper place in the comity of nations. “ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2022/12/arthur-eze-afraid-of-losing-influence-obis-spokesman/Diran Onifade, a former NTA News correspondent, is one of the spokesmen for Peter Obi's campaign organisation.

KosiGee: Why are you upset? Why are you being defensive? Your post is in contrast to the title of the thread. Maybe you should stick to Oshoala and women football. He is still hurt by the Oshoala posts of years ago. Wow! Listen, I will post whatever the hell I want to post and there ain't a damn thing that you can do about it except wail online. I couldn't give a damn whether you think that my post is contradictory, because no one cares about your worthless opinion, so you can stick it where the sun don't shine. You can choose to waste your time by replying, but I won't waste my time reading it. |
