AkinDS: You're right. However, the fact that the game is at night might be a benefit to Nigeria. Also, there is the option of training in Jos 4000ft above sea level (compared to JoBurgh (5700ft) might help.
The trick with playing at high altitude is to play the game within 48 hrs of your arrival there., which somewhat mitigates the challenges of breathing at high altitude.
BTW, the SF played very well in Addis, which is at 7700ft.
That's why I said that I hope that the Super Falcons' medical team comes up with a solution.
I remember that the Super Eagles medical team had a similar advice when they played in Ethiopia or Kenya a few years ago. The Eagles did well in the first half but seemed to tire out in the second.
AkinDS: The weather in SA shouldn't be too bad, I think. April is Autumn weather in JoBurg, with moderate temps. The advantage for us is that our ladies play overseas and are very used to the cooling weather, especially at night. The challenge will be playing in the heat in Abuja.
It's not the weather, it's the altitude. The height/elevation means that there is less oxygen (some of those stadiums are on mountains and Desiree Ellis said [in the interview that Deltamani posted] that she specifically chose this stadium because of the altitude).
It's very hard to breathe when there's very little oxygen (imagine having to run in that condition) and she said she plans to capitalise on this in the early stages of the match.
That's one of my fears, the altitude. The NFF has never really prepared well for that. Stephen Keshi said that he was scared when the Eagles played in Johannesburg in 1993. He could barely breathe and it reminded him of Samuel Okwaraji's death.
The BBC interviewed Danny Shittu in 2010 and he also complained about the altitude in South Africa. England prepared their players by giving them sessions in a hyperbaric chamber and the BBC reporter asked why Nigeria did not do the same and Danny Shittu replied, "I don't know".
Sijo01: Wow, thank God no vehicle was on the bridge at the moment.
Watching the video over and over again. Something is not right. Why aim at the bridge support? could it be that the ship was hijacked by terrorist
There's something that I noticed, but not many people are talking about it. If you watch the video again, you'll see that the lights on the ship went off sometime before it hit the bridge and then later, just before it hit, a few of the lights came back on.
It could be that the ship had a mechanical problem that made it impossible to steer it away from the pillar.
TheGift: Where in this entire report was it alleged that Diddy may have fled? The poster just had to insert that “rumour” in the title, to make it more sensational . SMH.
Thank you for letting me know that the moderators removed them (it seems there's a war between Nairaland and Twitter). At least the TMZ article is still there.

This man, who was driving past Diddy's house in a Bentley, shouted to reporters that they should tell Diddy to stop bringing minors to the area late in the night. The man said that he is Diddy's neighbour and that he sees buses bringing minors to Diddy's house almost every night.

DIDDY LOVEAIR PRIVATE JET TRACKED AMID RAIDS Down on Caribbean Island
Diddy's homes were raided in the U.S. to kick off the week -- but the guy's own private jet is miles away in a completely different nation ... although it's unclear if he's aboard himself.
TMZ has tracked Diddy's personal LoveAir LLC jet -- the well-known black Gulfstream 5 that Diddy has flaunted and flown for years now -- and it looks like the aircraft is currently on the ground in Antigua ... which is down in the Caribbean.
Based on the flight activity, viewed by TMZ, Diddy's jet has been up and down California between Sunday and Monday -- taking off from Sacramento Executive Airport Sunday evening around 5:30 PM PT and landing at Palm Springs Int'l Airport about an hour later.
An hour after that, around 7:30 PM PT, Diddy's jet took off from Palm Springs yet again and landed at Van Nuys Airport, which is in the L.A. area, about 30 minutes later around 8:00 PM PT. Around 9 AM PT Monday, the jet took off from Van Nuys airport and landed at some point in Antigua.
The plane is currently grounded there, although the flight data has yet to update and register him as having officially landed. In any case, it's definitely Diddy's jet ... no question.
The only thing that remains unanswered is whether Diddy is on the plane -- we don't have any evidence he is at this point ... and we also don't know what's happening on the scene.
As we reported ... two of Diddy's homes, in L.A. and MIami, were swarmed by federal law enforcement agencies Monday -- and armed officials stormed the properties, taking some people into custody ... including his sons Justin and King. Unclear if any arrests took place.
The raids are believed to have stemmed from accusations hurled at Diddy in multiple lawsuits -- which have touched on alleged human and sex trafficking, among other claims ... all of which he's vehemently denied.
We've reached out to Diddy's rep and lawyers ... so far, no word back.

Searches at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ homes related to an ongoing sex trafficking investigation, law enforcement source says
By Holmes Lybrand and Josh Campbell, CNN Updated 10:46 PM EDT, Mon March 25, 2024
CNN — Search warrant activity at homes belonging to musician and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs on Monday is related to an ongoing sex trafficking investigation, a law enforcement source told CNN. The source would not specify whether Combs himself was the specific target, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation.
Responding to reports of raids at homes belonging to Combs, the Department of Homeland Security Investigations New York confirmed it had “executed law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation.” Law enforcement could be seen Monday at two of Combs’ homes – one in the Miami area and one in Los Angeles, according to CNN journalists on site.
HSI New York said it acted with assistance from HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and local law enforcement. “We will provide further information as it becomes available,” the law enforcement department told CNN.
HSI is the lead investigative arm of the US Department of Homeland Security and is responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, including human trafficking.
An HSI Miami representative told CNN’s Carlos Suarez the law enforcement action was a “search warrant execution.”
It is not yet clear if Combs or other residents are the target of the law enforcement actions. CNN has reached out to representatives for Combs for comment.
Aerial footage over Combs’ home in Los Angeles showed multiple, armed law enforcement officers walking around the grounds of the property. Mobile command post vehicles were visible at the Los Angeles home and at a home of his in the Miami area, where agents were processing paperwork on card tables. It likely will take time to locate and process evidence given the substantial size of the properties.
Combs, 54, founded the music label Bad Boy in 1993, and has gone by stage names Puff Daddy and Diddy. Credited with work that is regarded as instrumental in the growth of the hip-hop genre, Combs has won three Grammys in his career, along with 14 nominations. While he achieved initial success with his music, Combs also became a notable producer as well as entrepreneur.
Though it is not known if Monday’s law enforcement action is related, the event follows months of controversy for Combs.
In November 2023, Combs settled a suit brought by his former girlfriend, singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who alleged she was raped and subjected to years of repeated physical and other abuses by Combs.
“A decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing,” Ben Brafman, an attorney for Combs, told CNN in a statement at the time. “Mr. Combs’ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best.”
Weeks later, at least two other civil lawsuits were filed in New York against Combs with allegations of sexual assault, including one filed in December in federal court that also included allegations of sex trafficking.
“I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy,” Combs said in response to the December suit. “Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”
Combs was accused of sexual assault and harassment in another civil lawsuit filed by a former male employee last month, claims which Combs, through his attorney, denied.
