@All W4 Users,
Ghana TV is FTA on TP: 11507 V 30000; PID: 481,482,481. Enjoy before it is locked!! I watched until today 0400Hrs GMT

@Mide2008,
Thanks for confirming that Equinoxe TV has moved to Sirius 4. I look forward to tracking that bird soon. I hope they will 'grow' the number of available FTA channels on that bird so that it may become "economical" to install an extra 60-90cm dish!

@All,
I have a crazy Idea here! , Since Sirius 4 at 4.8E and W3A at 7E are "close" to each other (theoretically speaking, by a 'distance' of 2.2 degrees), let us explore the possibility of installing two seperate LNBs on a 90cm dish!! Something tells me that this experiment will succeed , ! I am already on my way to fix an extra, modified, adjustable LNB arm to my W3A dish!!! Let's organise for a gift for the first Nairaland forum member to succeed in this! Oh, and post your pictures too for all to see, !!

@W3A Users,
Last evening, 'Equinoxe TV' was on air from 1700Hrs GMT at the TP I mentioned earlier. When I checked it this morning at around 0300Hrs - 0400Hrs GMT it was off air!! Anyway, the good news is that while on air, they placed an advert announcing that they are on 'Sirius 4 at 4.8 East; Transponder 12565 / V / 3900". The footprint for this bird is similar to that of the W3A as seen in the following link(s): _http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/sirius4_afr.html_. Although no TP is given for Africa in the lyngsat website (_http://www.lyngsat.com/sirius4.html_), the African beam is 'Active' (as mentioned by a member of nairaland forum recently. Is anyone connected to that bird at present? Let us know if that Equinoxe TV is now on that bird.

@All W3A Users,
New FTA Transponder Added this weekend!!
You may now watch "Equinoxe TV" from Cameroon on 12565 / H / 3890;
PID = 101/131/8190. You will agree with me that a good blind-scan FTA receiver is a great asset to any FTA scientist. Keep Discovering!

@All,
That TP (11507, V, 30000) on W4@36East (with NTV-Uganda) appears scrambled/encrypted as of last evening (20.00Hrs GMT)!! I will check again this evening. Has anyone with tracked it in west Africa using a 1.8m - 2.4m dish?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by NashFTA(m): 1:10pm On Nov 04, 2008
@Captainus,
That frequency for NTV-Uganda is on the Eutelsat Sesat @ 36E and not on the W4@36E. On checking the maps (_http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/sesat_saf.html_), I realise that you need a Ku-Band dish of atleast 150 - 240 cm in size in West Africa (up to Nigeria)!! Otherwise if it was on the W4 you could have easily tracked the TP using a 65-90cm (Check:_http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/ew4_afr.html_). Here at Nairobi (36 Degrees East) I can track both beams using a 65cm dish with a signal level of 75% and quality level of 80%.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by NashFTA(m): 1:48pm On Nov 03, 2008
@Justx24,
Ref: @Hash-FTA, in your post 29. saw the w4 higher in elevation than the w3a. is that correct ? And it seem they are pointing WEST , according to your label or they are not (EUTELSAT W3a and 4?).
justx24

(i) Correct. From my longitude 36East position, W4 is higher in elevation than that of W3A. As a matter of fact, if I were to use a "Prime focus Dish" (I once tried this with a 1.8m dish), it would literally face vertically to track the W4 bird.
(ii) Correct. The W4 dish appears to be slightly tilted to the west. However, from my longitude we can point the LNB arm to any direction (I have tried this and confirmed) and it will work as long as you adjust the LNB skew correctly.
(iii) Correct. The W3A dish is facing west. Although the bird is positioned at 7East, from my longitude of 36East (which is like 29 degrees further to the east of 7E), the bird is located in a westward direction.
(iv) Note also that the IS7/10 @68.5East is like 32.5 degrees further to the east of my location. Hence both the IS7/10 and the W3A appear to have a similar elevation angle when viewed from 36East. But the W3A has a slightly higher elevation since it is 'closer' in terms of 'distance'.

@w4 Users,
For your information, more information on NTV-Uganda may be found at (_http://www.ntvuganda.co.ug_).

Correction:
There are other FTA channels on W4 but not located in the African beam (check _http://www.lyngsat.com/sesat.html_).

@All Eutelsat-W4-36East Users,
Weekend Discoveries!!
Please save and scan the following TP: Frequency 11507, V, Symbol-rate 30000, FEC 3/4; to watch the ONLY FTA channel on that Bird - I.e. NTV-Uganda. The programmes are mainly in English. Plenty of Soap Operas, Movies, etc.
If you succeed let us know. Note: you can also input the TP on your Pay-TV decoder and it will work too (if you subscription decoder can allow reception of FTA)!! You wont find this TP in the 'book' (i.e. lyngsat, etc). I came across it using a blindscan receiver.
Kind regards.

@All FTA Friends,
I am back to the forum after a short 'vacation'. I have attached below my setup for four 65cm Eurostar dishes which I use at Nairobi City (Located at Latitude 1.28East, Longitude 36.82East). I have installed the dishes on the roof of my landlord 5 storey building. Not allowed to install 6ft or 8ft dishes!! As you will note, due to my location (longitude), the W4 dish is facing almost vertically. I am using a 'perfect' blind-scan receiver model "Astrovox VSR-290FTA Super". It will track any channel and feed for you! (Check: _hxxp://www.astrovox.biz).

NTV channel on Intelsat 902 (C-Band) originates from Nairobi, Kenya and is owned by the "Nation Media Group" (Visit: http://www.nation.co.ke ). It can also be viewed on You-Tube at ( http://www.youtube.com/ntvkenya ). There is also another FTA channel from Nairobi on that same satellite (Intelsat 902), "Citizen TV", at 3837 V 2466. If you are able to track Atlantic Bird 3 at 5 West, you may also tune to another FTA Kenyan Channel, "KTN" at 3656 H 2893. Owned by the "Standard media group" ( http://www.standardmediagroup.net/corp/ ). You may visit the KTN website ( http://www.ktnkenya.tv ) for a daily schedule of their programmes. Incase you are interested, I may compile for you a weekly NTV programme schedule from their 'DAILY NATION" newspapers. Both NTV and KTN are also available on DSTV channel 138 & 139 respectively. As you correctly noted, NTV has some agreement with both DSTV and ETv to broadcast champion League matches, and also retransmits cartoon network daily (monday - friday) from 1300Hrs GMT; TCM Movies from 2100HRs GMT to 3.00Hrs GMT; and many others.

Is anyone able to receive Ariane TV on 11063 V 1150 ? I use a 65cm dish. The channel has been off-air for the last 7 days. To those using a 90cm dish or larger, are you able to receive the channel? The transponder used to be weak.

I do not fully agree with urfriend that ALL feeds are encrypted. For example, last night between 1700Hrs - 2100Hrs GMT the feed frequency 11185 V 5696 on W3A was FTA and showing a live match: South African Premier League, Mamelodi Sundowns Vs Kaizer Chiefs !! And I watched up to the last minute of the game.
On monday evenings (1700Hrs - 1900Hrs GMT), the feed frequency 10999 V 3209 on W3A is usually FTA and broadcasts some christian programme from Nigeria. There is also this transponder 12605 V 27500 on W3A I mentioned before which is still 'active' but carries no audio or video. I found out on another forum that it used to broadcast 'National Geographic Channel Deutchland'. Who knows? One of these days pictures and sound may pop up on it!

@Enitan2002,
I am back to the forum after a short break. However, I visit this forum on daily basis and I have been amused by the recent postings on DVB-C, DVB-T and DVB-S topics. Well, Let me not post anything on that since I am not a guru in DVB-C and DVB-T. I am Just busy trying to discover if there are some useful 'extra' FTA frequencies and feeds on PAS7/10 within the following frequency ranges: (i) between 11170 - 11472 MHz (a 'space' of 302 MHz) and, (ii) between 11674 - 12522 MHz (a 'space of 848 MHz). I am fully convinced that there must be some good stuff in these 'spaces'!! Does anyone know what feed frequency eTV uses to transmit UEFA matches and other sports to broadcasting stations in Africa? (note that I do not mean the 12722 V 26657 on PAS 10). To all gurus in the house, if you come across something in these frequency ranges let us know. I promise that as soon as I get something I will shout "I have found it!!" on this forum, for the benefit of all to rescan their FTA decoders.
Kind regards.

@Obnelly,
I also experience a weak MBC signal on W3A around that time almost daily. My guess is that since the signal comes from mauritius - a tiny Island in the Indian ocean - there is likelihood of heavy rainfall / storm around that area daily hence weakening the Ku-Band uplink signal. Just trying to use the little geography I learnt in school years ago!

There is an extra active FTA transponder on 12605 / H / 27500.
If you are unable to track it using "Horizontal" Poralisation, try "Vertical". There were no pictures on it by the time I tracked it last evening (2015Hrs GMT). I suspect it is a 'feed'. Just save the transponder. You never know, next time you scan some live action may pop up!

To All FTA Hobbyists in da House: Discoveries Unlimited!!
Last night I discovered that on Intelsat 7/10 at 68.5 East there is an extra active transponder at:

Frequency: 11712
Horizontal
Symborate: 26657

This info is not on the lyngsat website ( http://www.lyngsat.com/intel68.html ), or any other website. However, the ten channels on this "new" transponder are the same as those on the 12562 / H / 26657 transponder. It is wise to save and scan this new transponder - You never know, maybe one of these days new channels (or feeds) will show up on it !!
Keep on discovering more.

@biggjoe,
I don't think Channel O is completely out. It keeps coming on and off. However, its no longer on the frequency it came on. Whenever it comes back, it replaces Magic World until it goes again.

Channel 'O' is usually available on the Magic World channel daily from around 21Hrs GMT to the following day at 9Hrs GMT. And this is usually a 'live feed' into the Magic World channel from the actual Channel O.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by NashFTA(m): 7:03am On Aug 22, 2008
@Okomogo, Mr.Gem and all FTA Gurus,
I confirm that the 11 channels you have mentioned are FTA on 12284/H/26480 at W4-36East !!
What I found interesting after re-scaning my FTA decoder last night is that these channels (apart from channel O) are "replicas" of the coded "Irdeto" channels which still retain their 'dollar-sign' status. In other words, they appear as additional 10 channels on that transponder but without 'official' names. It appears like the 'encrypting machines' just went crazy and created FTA versions of the Irdeto channels!!
Anyhow, lets enjoy the show while it lasts, and hoping that these 'clone' versions of the real animals are here to stay!
Thanks to all the FTA gurus for your superb FTA research skills.

@All,
Anyone with ideas on what FTA "Feeds" can be tracked on Intelsat 7-10 (Ku-Band) and what their parameters are?

Have a great friday.

Gangsta101:

Mecussey,

i think Nash mentioned dry cell, maintenance free batteries because of these problems u outlined, they are similar to the ones already in the ups but have a bigger capacity, so the issue of acid spillage or accidental fires are pretty much negligible, but still it is a valid advice. when i was in 2/300 levels, i had a wet cell which i used to power my deck and the lights in my room, so i have first hand knowledge of the problems of such wet cells, and getting the right charger took me months of experimenting. anyways, dry cells it will be when the time comes.
PS: what exactly is this 3-step charging system you're talking about and how does one recognise it?

Gangsta101,
Thanks for that accurate clarification to Mecussey.
With regard to the beeper, I had a similar problem and this is how I solved the problem:
Using my basic knowledge of electronics, I located where the beeper is on the "Printed Circuit Board" in the UPS. Then I cut the 'positive' wire of the beeper and inserted an external switch in-between so that I can control the beeper. The UPS now has an external "Beeper ON" / "Beeper OFF" switch, and I have peace of mind!! The external battery - which weights about 7 Kg - is housed seperately in a small wooden box. No issues of acid spilling or flamable gases - the battery is sealed. Note that you have to purchase ordinary battery clips (similar to those used in cars) to firmly fasten the cables from the battery to the UPS. As I said before, I have used this sytem for the last 18 months without a problem. In addition to the FTA receiver and TV, I even connect a 10 watt energy saving light in the event of a power blackout at night.

Incase you would like to know the type of FTA receiver I am using (an excellent Blind-scan decoder), please visit the following website: [ http://www.eurostar-digital.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=132&Itemid=184 ].

To all FTA gurus:
Pardon me for this UPS discussion. Well, didn't intend to convert the forum into a science forum. It's just that someone (enitan2002) wanted to know how to operate FTA receiver for longer duration.
Kind regards.
