I feel you my brother. That is just sheer greed. He has unconciously put pressure on his seaon. In my opinion he must have his best season ever. What he is asking for must not be pay for past contributions.

This is not gratuity, it is income and he must merit every pound spent. ChelseaFC beginning to run as a business must start with this.

and it looks like we might not have any of those right backs afterall. I just listened to a live interview with PK. He said we hope to sign Malouda by the weekend and will be chelsea's final summer signing.

So glenn and paulo's prayers will be answered. I hope we don't have to relegate essien to right back for the most of the season.

I like this article on Micheal Essien

http://www.squarefootball.net/article/article.asp?aid=4591

My favourite part is

The Ghanaian star at least won the BBC African Footballer of the Year accolade for a season of astonishing adaptability. In an age where top players have become increasingly specialised in their positions Essien brought back an epithet so beloved in the 1960 and 70s- the ‘utility man’.

There are- or were- two types of utility man. Ones who could fill in most positions but weren’t quite good enough to make a single position their own and a second rarer type who took over any position and did it better than most of the specialists- Michael Essien is one of these.
I am still not impressed. ''Supply man'' no dey the team. We need long passes. I really can't stop complaining
To a considerable extent i agree. I think they lack technique, short passes and movement off the ball. Lets see aw they pick up as the tournament unfolds.

I know goals win matches but you can only hope to win with goals when you do not concede some.

A large part of last season's success must be credited to the tremendous, ever-increasing form of micheal essien

not only the goals scored by fading lampard. Players only have such greed when they begin to think they are indispensable.

I still haven't heard essien grumble about an outrageous wage increase.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here (Old) by nateevs(m): 11:22am On Jul 04, 2007
somze,

I do know that lampard scores a lot of goals for the team, one thing we must realize is that he is not getting better in performance. His form is dropping drastically, so much he was even booed by england fans.

I have never thought we can't play without lampard, infact the sooner we start learning we can the better.

He knows his form is dropping and he is only trying to secure his future. How can lamps reject a 121k a week wage?

I will not even ask kaka to be paid that if ever he finds his way to the bridge.

I believe and JM know lamps has passed his prime.

wormedup:
IMO, sheva deserves to earn more than lamps by all standards !
a bad season would be the cause of all these.
let's assume sheva starts off next season and keep banging gaols, what would u guys say then ? shevy's pay should be raised or lamps pay should be cut huh.
Very, very very well put my brother.

Concept:
@nateevs

The kind of tournament will determine the kind of players that will be used.
You don't expect Mikel, Sidwell, Kalou and diarra to be on the bench when playing carling cup
Ballack,Lampard and other senior players will be a sure bet for a tournament such as Champion's league
During the course of the season, things turn out to be different from the way we see it at the beginning. If I remember very well, there several were times when JM had to sacrifice MAKA for mikel even though he (maka) was a senior player.

Even though we see these guys as senior players, the season might turn out to be different. One thing about JM is that he will give you a second consecutive match if your performance seems to be better than a senior player. champions league or not.

The issue of senior player usually comes in the midfield. In the attack the is perhaps no junior player. Maybe SWP and Malou

What do you think?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here (Old) by nateevs(m): 2:11pm On Jul 03, 2007
the bigger a team becomes, u start  to ask about where this person plays and that person plays.

For instance,   when we play a 4-3-3.

how do you succesfully choose 3 midfielders in a 4-3-3 from

lamps, ballack, essien, mikel, maka, diarra, sidwell, and possibly pato?

and aw then do you successfully choose 3 attackers in a 4-3-3 from

drogba, sheva, pizzaro, salomon malou, joe cole, robben, swp,  and possibly malouda?

You'll find out at some point that someone very vital is not going kick a ball.  The kind of system I described is not to ensure that every player gets to play. Its to ensure that the we score goals while being defensive. The rotational policy will continue and big players will get to play alternate games.

Let's see what kind of combo we'll get from JM in the pre seasons. It'll give better insight as what to expect in the season.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Chelsea Fans: Identify Yourselves Here (Old) by nateevs(m): 12:59pm On Jul 03, 2007
Somze

I do understand aw u feel about the overlap but i think JM has his ways of balancing the squad out at every point in time. One of his favourite is to play like this

CECH

ALVES RC JT COLE

MAKA ESSIEN

This way there are always four defense minded players at any point in time. This way u can push players forwards hoping to score more goals while covering ur back at the same time plus it complements the 3-3 in our 4-3-3.

There is a demand for immense defensive discipline when you play like this.
