What Somze is trying to say is that whichever way you look at it, it is still too early to start making predictions. Although I share your emotions as well. I actually like the fact that their £60m cannot score goals, finds it hard to beat reading at home and draws with portsmouth.

I also like the fact that for once they can be on the side where things can go wrong even though they have potentials in their £60m and the psychology advantage of being champions.

When Chelsea complained of injury last season, they were screaming all over the place. Let's see what happens after the third round of matches. If chelsea wins and Man U loses. To me that is it. Their season is done.

Talking about SWP's crosses, I agree with you totally. I was just amazed that he could ever discover that form. I cannot remember when SWP was man of the match.

Having said that, straight to the analysis.

1st Glenn Johnson. ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmhh. Is there anyway we can play carlo cudicini in that position? Glenn almost caused us the day. Several defensive errors. The guy should be playing golf or something.

Lamps has just an average game. Essien was fine. Nice goal.

Pizzaro showed he would not be a bench warmer. Good goal; nice team player. Liked the way he used SWP.

Malouda great Asset.

RC and Ben nice combination in defense. A few more games together will improve the partnership.

Ashley Cole. very impressive. Great energy.

Overall verdict. Good game. Still first game of the season but a sign of great things to come.

You don't talk about football this way. It really does not make sense to be one-sided because you support one team. Great tacticians you will agree with me have led Milan to the final of the Champions League and in two finals to Juventus and some years later to liverpool. If I remember well, Milan lost three penalties in a row in those two matches. That doesn't make the coaches at those times less tacticians.

Holland lost disgracefully to Italy on penalties in the Euro 2000 on penalties. This same Van der Sar was in goal and could not save a single penalty. That did not make Gus Hiddink less of a tactician.

I really don't agree with cech being applaing with penalties. Cech would have saved the penalties Lamps and SWP took.

It is not that Van der sar was a genius. It was because they took better penalties. Fast balls and far away form the keeper's reach. Simple technic.

I must confess Lamps was pathetic. Razorr did i hear you say yesterday Lamps for sale? I would not have said anything about if I had not been noticing his deminishing performance since the FA cup. Mikel totally out classed him in the midfield. Now I am wondering how come he can always stay out of injury? Maybe this is the time he should get injured. So we see what Mikel can do without him.


Also, We need someone running down the middle to take pressure off the flanks.  If we had somone like SWP in the middle yesterday SWP and Malouda would have had a game of their lives.

Glenn is s**t. We need a right back. He doesn't watch his defense line and plays attackers onside when his whole defense is two yards out. Defenders should have reponsiveness. Ashley Cole, man of the play. Made Ronaldo look ordinary.

They had finished all tactical discussions with JT, Maka, ferreira and Drogba. These guys and the formation came only as a last resort. When he found out all the guys could not play.

I watched an interview after the match and he said if we had a full squad, Malouda, Mikel, SWP and Ashley Cole would not have come in for the second half, because they were all inhured at the end of the 1st half.

With the situation i think we had a good game. I do not balme Jm for anything except leaving Lamps there for 90mins.

I've talked about it so many times on this thread. We would be doing our premiership race a great dent if that guy continues to play every match. I watched the whole pre season and I was not impressed. Mikel completely outshone him in midfield.

I think we are better as well when we don't do a 4-4-2. Glenn is good going forward. Defensively, he is weak. I put him there because he seems to be the most consistent make-shift right back we have.

Apart from SWP, Carlo Cudicini is the most improved player so far.

I do not like playing one striker in front but that the only way we can play with the team we have. Sheva and Pizzaro are out and out strikers. They need a very creative player from the midfield (Ronaldinho, Deco, KaKa, Pablo Aimar, Rodiguez) to enable them score goals. Drog can work magic on his own because of his strength. (liverpool, barcelona, everton) Until we have a creative midfielder from the middle we wont be able to do a 4-4-2. Lamps plays too deeply in the midfield and when he does get the ball he going for the flanks and that is very predictable. I want to Joe Cole and Mikel Obi take this game in their stride, step up and put lamps and ballack to bench.

I like that squad. I have always Imagined it. The onlt thing is that it will remain in our imagination for some time because lamps is an untouchable. I have this strange feeling though that this is the season when lamps will get his first bench and watch in a long time.

I am also looking at the possiblity of playing a 4-5-1 in this manner.

And it is easy to switch to a 4-3-3 when there is need by robben and malouda joning drogba in front. My point is we have four players in the middle that are burst-forward like in the approach to the game. Joe can go more forward and essien can come back when due. I think this will work.

Robben goes no problem, he stays and plays well very good. We need someone like him that runs at defences.

Also we need our midfielders to run in through the center to remove the pressure from the wings. This is our main problem.

Robben's good. He is injured again. I do not know when he is coming back. Lampard does not run at defenses. I watched joe cole play central midfield in the last friendly and he was fabulous.

Pizzaro I think is going to be a good signing. He's not got the drog strength but he's got good foot work and he reminds me of berbatov.

Essien, maka, robben, JT, kalou and lampard are all injured.

The team is a very versatile one and open to a lot of options. The quicker you are to criticize this team the sooner you are to be heart broken.

Malouda good left midfield player. Solid partnership with overlapping Ben haim. On the contrary, SP was all over the place - can he ever stop the ball from bouncing? He had good crosses though. He seems to have picked up the crossing part of his game.

Decent play by Essien. Lamps was absent for most of the half.

Drogba - strong as ever. Kalou missed an opportunity to nail a first team shirt.

Terry, Carvalho, good game. It's normal for them. Ferreira , I don't know.
