spyder880: Depends on which type of door you are fitting on the house. You first fix;
Doors, if the doors are China, Turkish or Nigerian welded metal doors. So you can do your tiles to match the already fixed door gap and get the desired gap underneath.
Tiles, if it's local wooden doors. You can always adjust the height of local wooden doors to match the clearance you want with the floor and keep the gap as little as possible. what of American steel door Sir? |

alstacs: I actually wanted to ask if anyone has dealt with @money121 before but with this evidence posted here, seems someone was happy with his work. Now, how would you rate Korean stoned coated step tiles compared with Metrotiles? While everybody talks about 50 years, I went to an estate that was completed about 3 years ago just to assess how Korea and Metrotiles perform after a few years. I noticed the Korean stone coated with such warantee of 50 years have all changed colour within 3 years while Metrotiles were all shining, in fact glowing with pride! . These Korean tiles were definitely not China cos those folks were very sure what they got.
The question then is, if I have 50 years warantee on Korean tiles and they fade in 3 years, what does the warantee mean? That I remove the roof and return them? Or I get a portion of my money back? Or I can retain a lawyer to fight?
While I complain the country is hard and Metrotiles is out of the affordability range of an average Nigerian, within the estate I went to told me something I still laugh about till today. He asked me if after I water an expensive lace with good embroidery and matching shoes, I would then look for face cap or beret like the sports minister and say I am going for an o wa nbẹ. In his view, using an "inferior roof is like wearing face cap.
While I got the message, that doesn't change the fact that Metrotiles is unnecessarily (I hope I am right) expensive please i need more clarification the two types of roofing sheet you discussed Sir, if possible with pictures, thank you sir. |

micgray100: thanks for your professional advice
From experience as a Practicing Engineer, Lintel is called "In-built beams" wish are normally constructed on windows, doors and other open partitions.. To the issue at hand,,,
Your choice of doing lintel round or not depend on the Structural Design Calculation prepared by the Structural Engineer in charge of the project (Storey building).. You must have experience some completed buildings having cracks at some portion of the building.... what is the cause of this?
1, Poor workmanship 2, Differential settlement..
Poor workmanship can be taken care off with adequate supervision.. but Differential settlement has to be handled by the Structural Engineer when designing at the initial stage especially if it is a water logged area... in-built beams calculation will specify if there is need for it to go round or not.. taking account the Soil bearing Capacity of the build.. |

To cut the long story short.. Dont want to go into Technical details.. cos i know how boring it is for other proffession
There is a rule of thumb i gave my pupil engineers or my bricklayers as the case may be,,
At interval of block wall not more than 6 meters, in built beams /lintel/ ring beams of standing column must be constructed to serve as link or chain to the block wall..
ask your self... can crack due to little differential settlement penetrate through lintel? No..
because reinforced Concrete resist Shear more than ordinary block wall.. this is to hold the block wall tight in place in case of any deferential settlement or poor workmanship on the foundation...
Oga Mufftau have always been lucky with his structural designers... he avoids water logged lands and have taste for good workmanship.. but still ... experience structural engineers are needed in a building Construction..
The building collapsing today are building built many years back... The failure keep accumulating till it eventually give way.. i have been called to come remedial more than 1000 structural corrections on buildings, i just smile at the level of ignorant of the owners saying... "Mr A and Mr B did it like this, that is why me Mr C did it too.."
the money they use for correction will now triple what they would use to hire an experienced Structural Engineers..
IT IS WELL..

mufutau55: Pesonally and economical to me... wasteless. The decking beam should tie everything together at the top. But for bungalow, I must have it. Just my unqualified opinion, since I am not a COREN certified yet.
