Politics / Important Message For All Voters And Interested Parties In The Anambra Election by Nchara: 8:19pm On Nov 15, 2013
I just thought I should reemphasize that no Nigerian politician, not even GEJ is worth dying for. So as you head out to vote, or rig, or observe, keep in mind that a restriction of movement within the boundaries of Anambra State will be enforced from 6.00pm on Friday, 15 November, to 6.00am on Sunday, 17 November, 2013.

This simply implies that all states contiguous with Anambra, namely Delta, Enugu, Imo and Abia, will be heavily policed. Therefore, if you've been contracted by politicians of the APC, APGA, LP or PDP (yes, all will of e'm try to rig, it is a matter of who rigs better) hue determined to obstruct a transparent election, think twice so you don't get shot at like a chicken by the ever trigger-happy Nigerian police and killed in the process. No Politician is worth dying for.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Economy Is Growing Hot!! Watch Mckinsey's CEO Speech At Stanford Univ. by Nchara: 7:13pm On Jun 03, 2013
PapaBrowne:

Great things are happening truly and the wise would seek to take advantage.

Harvard is an Ivy League. Stanford isnt but its better than many of the Ivy Leagues. But for better understanding and for the benefit of those that unknowingly assume Ivy league signifies the best Universities in the US, I referred to Stanford as Ivy League. Many people do use the same classification also especially for MIT and Stanford.

Hear Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivy_League

My bad! I wanted to write Stanford but ended up with Harvard. Harvard is of course an ivy league.

These projections are based on Nigeria's huge and growing population. For those who are interested in balkanizing the country, the respective countries that will emanate will lose the edge as investors move to the next big countries. Now profit from investments is becoming a matter of population.
Politics / Re: Nigeria's Economy Is Growing Hot!! Watch Mckinsey's CEO Speech At Stanford Univ. by Nchara: 3:32pm On Jun 03, 2013
PapaBrowne:
Totally agree. Except maybe for Harvard.
Stanford's location as in Bay area and Silicon valley helps make it the leading institution for entrepreneurship and start up companies.

Topic:
The Mckinsey CEO says, : If you want to succeed in tommorow's business world, you must know a Chinese , A brazilian, an Indonesian and a Nigeria Business Executive. He puts Nigeria at the top of the league.

Some of the highlights of the speech:
There is a tectonic shift in global economics with power shifting from the traditional west to the global south.
3 Billion new middle class would be created from Emerging markets.

Nigeria would have more newborns this year than all of Europe combined.
Implication:
Make toys, Start a baby clothing line, Ecommerce in baby products, Open a creche,Make Napkin, Wipes and Diapers and you'll make a hell of money.

Nigerians are starting some of the most amazing companies in the globe.
Implications:
Serve as a consultant. Provide services for companies in accounting, logistics& distribution, Human Resource, Digital arts, Media/Communications, Outsourcing. IT. And a whole lot more.
One Example: E commerce is gaining tremendous grounds in Nigeria. But there is no organized distribution channel to get products across the country. Huge opportunity for a company that would engage in nationwide door to door delivery..

I tell my new executive directors, in the first 2 months of operations, they must have either met a Chinese, Brazilian or Nigerian executive.
Implication:
Companies are seeking to come to Nigeria in droves. Those Stanford students are going to leave that hall thinking, I got to do some more research about Nigeria. The opportunities there must be crazy! They are gonna want to start up new companies here. Its already happening. Procter and Gamble is opening a new manufacturing plant in Nigeria focusing on Diaper production. 350 million dollars investment. And it is happening on the strength of the number of middle class newborns that would enter the market.
Opportunities would exist for individuals who can partner with all these companies looking to set foot in Nigeria.

Immense opportunities. A positive outlook is the first step to taking advantage of these opportunities. In the next 15 years, the world is going to need 76 new Procter and Gambles to cater for the 3 billion new middle class. Procter and gamble sold $84 Billion in 2012. You could actually be the owner of one of them instead of one of those Stanford grads! Lets take advantage!

Good things are happening in Nigeria that every sane person should appreciate. Thanks for the video. But Stanford- one of the best- is not a member of the ivy league.

^^^And how exactly does the poster expect us to answer questions on Orji Kalus' purported stupendous wealth without access to his numerous bank accounts?

Where exactly are the companies he owns that would make him a 'liquid' billionaire in dollars?; then again, it may just be a possibility considering the fact he did fuc/kall in Abia for the full 8 years he was Governor, and he had billions of dollars at his disposal all during this time!

There are more questions posed up there than merely referring to his wealth. Plus, remember that anything you proffer here as an answer is just an opinion (yours) that may have no bearing on reality.

Saw this about Orji Kalu on facebook and could not helping wondering and asking:

Is this politically motivated? meaning is he playing to the camera?
Is it humility?
Does he indeed feel safe among commoners?
Is Kalu the richest Igbo man as claimed in the scoop?
Is he the fourth richest Nigerian as also claimed?
Is this all a ruse to flummox the unwary?

Igbere Television (IGTV) with Onwuchekwa Ochu and 49 others

LESSON IN HUMILITY: ORJI UZOR KALU STOPS HIS CONVOY TO BUY AKARA AND CORN ON THE STREETS!

One of the greatest lessons of Jesus Christ on earth was humility. Former governor of Abia state and the international co-ordinator of the Apex Igbo Socio-political organization NJIKO IGBO Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu is the 4th richest billionaire in Nigeria and the richest Igbo man in the world; yet like christ, he's a very humble personality, no wonder the people love him so much. On 22nd and 25th May, while on a condolence visit to Arochukwu and Nneato Umunneochi Abia state respectively, Kalu did the unimaginable. He stopped his massive 19 vehicles convoy and walked freely without his security details to buy Akara and roasted corn on the streets like every other common Nigerian. It was a rude shock to all bye standers who were astonished at the humility of the IROKO of Africa. They erupted in shouts of OUK mmiri riri enyi, Action governor, Okosisi, kpakpando Igbo, Aha eji eje mba etc as the very cheerful Kalu acknowledges cheers from all and sundry. The woman selling Akara danced ceaselessly at the good omen and was eventually overwhelmed by tears of joy when Kalu paid her 500 dollars for few balls of Akara.

How many of your leaders can do this?

Dear Mr. xxxxx Rrrrrrr:

I am writing to inquire if you (FDA, I mean) do provide information on individuals involved in drug discovery submitted for FDA approval. If so, I would love to know whether a certain Professor Maurice Iwu was involved in the discovery of the newly-FDA approved anti-diarrheal drug for HIV/AIDS patients known as fulyzaq (crofelemer).

I am asking this to clarify myself on some arguments presently going on about his involvement with this new drug.

Politics / Wife Of Ajimobi, ACN Governor Of Oyo, Arrested In London For Money Laundering by Nchara: 5:04pm On Oct 30, 2012
This News story has been culled verbatim from this evening's edition of PM News.

altLondon Metropolitan Police has confirmed the arrest of Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, wife of Oyo state Governor, over money laundering.

The Met confirmation came this afternoon following an enquiry by P.M.NEWS on the story making the rounds that Mrs. Ajimobi was arrested in London, with the sum of 400,000 pounds and thousands of US dollars, valued at N500million.

The Met simply said ‘Yes’ to our question, seeking confirmation about the arrest.

However, the organization declined to give further information about the matter, citing a UK law.

“I am sorry, we are unable to disclose any information to you under the Data Protection Act,” an officer in the MET Lambeth Office responded.

There was anxiety in the government circles of Nigeria’s Oyo State this morning over the arrest of Mrs. Ajimobi.

Reports on the web and some blogs claimed that the woman was arrested two weeks ago by the London Metropolitan Police on her 52nd trip to the UK since her husband became governor 17 months ago.

London Met Police has not issued any statement about her alleged arrest. And her name drew blank in a search of the Met Police website by P.M.NEWS.

The unconfirmed reports claimed that Governor Abiola Ajimobi has had to fly to the UK to get her bailed. Mrs. Ajimobi has a North London address in Golders Green and ordinarily visits the UK.

So far, the Oyo state government has kept mute over this story. And the disappearance of Governor Ajimobi from Ibadan, the capital for some two days has further given some ammunition to the purveyors of the news about his wife, styled The First Lady of Oyo state.

Governor Ajimobi was in office today, but bearers of the tale about the wife, have been unrelenting.

Mrs. Ajimobi’s personal staff at Agodi have also not issued denials of any sort.

Miss Yemisi Dada, Special Assistant on Media to Chief Mrs. Ajimobi on a phone interaction at exactly 8:11am claimed that she was not in Ibadan at the time of the telephone conversation adding that she was not aware of such development.

“I cannot talk about that. I am not aware of what you are talking about and besides, I am not in Ibadan right now. Meanwhile, I will find out the correct situation and get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks”.

sleek29: Ibos, supremacist tendencies, they want to secede yet they don't stay at home and develop their home, If the north refuses them food, they'll die of kwarshiorkor (they grow only yams), as long as biafra can't get yorubas to back them, till Jesus comes, biafra would keep deceiving itself, if they want another secession, I would propose another blockade, block all food supplies!, Achebe ought to make yorubas biafra's friend not create more animosity. Why do I need to throw a punch when I hold the ace? The only tribe that accommodates this ibos remains the same yoruba they so much castigate, an ibo man is fashola's commissioner, they enjoy free health care where I live in lagos!, I'm really angry, if they want to go, let them go!

Seems you enjoy the current state of Nigeria? I hear some Oduduwa people asking for secession or is it just a ruse? I have also read some Northerners asking to secede.

There is a saying that he who holds another to the ground must be doing so while on the ground themself. If you get up, the one you are holding to the ground is bound to get up as well. So, keep feeling you are holding Biafra to the ground; at the same time you are on the ground. Little wonder Nigeria is on the ground and will remain so until Biafra is free.

Politics / Re: Reconstructing Nigeria For Prosperity By Charles Soludo by Nchara: 12:44am On Sep 04, 2012
Soludo and his pan Africanism balderdash sef. This is exactly what Zik did that, in part, landed us where we are today. The question to all Nigerian pan Africanists of the 21st century is what other African countries care about pan Africanism? Virtually every other African country, including those we helped in the past - e.g., South Africa - pokes their hands in our face and we are still talking about pan Africanism. Deep in my mind, I root for one Nigeria because of the reasons stated by Soludo: my father has a building in Lagos and two of my siblings have now become Landlords in the same Lagos. However, it has not worked well after 50 years and will likely not work, in the foreseeable future. How Igbos continue to build and help in developing other regions at the expense of their own land beats me. But who am I to complain about Igbo love for pan (pan Africanism, pan Nigerianism)?

Okay! So I am not an economist, hence I will not argue much about the importance of a large country (population) in relation to the economy. But while I agree there is evidence that a large population directly translates to a large economy (China, India, USA), it has to be a productive population. Largeness without commensurate productivity as is the case with Nigeria is economically meaningless. Also, I will ask whether a large economy directly means a better economy? Many of the small European countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, etc) don't have large economies (in the context of Soludo's article) likely because they do not have large populations. But those same countries have stronger and better economies and certainly better human development indices than those of many of the large countries. Their citizens have better and improved live standards in many cases than even the USA, let alone China and India where poverty still reigns supreme despite the growth they are recording. Same goes for Singapore, a small Asian Tiger which is now the only developed country outside Europe and North America. So a Yoruba, Igbo or Ijaw-only country may not have a large economy, but will they also not have a better economy and much more improved living standards for the citizens? The large size of Nigeria has not provided the hoped-for goodies after 50 years.

The North of Nigeria, with its bloated population (inflated or real), has been a drag rather than a catalyst. A large population of beggars and destitutes amounts to nothing per strengthening the economy.

Soludo mentioned that about 17 million Nigerians live abroad, out of which number about 10 million is likely Igbo. I thought Soludo should be building on that to ask that diaspora voting be instituted in the constitution so that the more progressive Igbos and Yorubas and to a lesser extent Edos, abroad will have a say in who leads the country. I believe that if Nigerians abroad vote, Igbos and Yoruba will be more in a position to dictate or co-dictate how the politics play. By dictating the politics, you can then dictate the economy. As long as the North remains the majority in Nigeria because they travel less than other groups and dictate the politics, they will likely dictate the economy and we know what it means when Hausa-Fulani dictate the economy.

At least 18 bodies were seen lying bloody and motionless on the ground after local police opened fire on striking miners, a South African news agency reports. Some of the protesters were allegedly armed with machetes and spears.

The incident is believed to have occurred after police, in the process of laying down barricades of barbed wire, were outflanked by a crowd of 3,000 demonstrators.

Nine people had been killed prior to Thursday’s clashes in a spate of protest in the mining town, located northwest of Johannesburg. The platinum mine, owned by Lonmin PLC, has been the focal point of protests over wage disputes since last Friday.

Fighting intensified over the weekend when two police officers were killed. Striking workers and local security guards have also been caught up in the violence.

Some 3,000 police massed in the area on Wednesday, some wearing riot gear and supported by helicopters. Demonstrators were reinforced on Thursday by a group of women pledging to stand by their husbands in their demand for increased wages.

Lonmin announced that the disruption means the company is unlikely to meet its 2012 production targets. Shares in the company have tumbled 6 percent following Thursday’s violence, bringing total losses since the outset of the strike to 13 percent.

Partnership combines regionally relevant scholarly literature with powerful tools to search, track, measure, and collaborate in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities

Philadelphia, PA, July 25, 2012 - The Intellectual Property & Science division of Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, today announced it has partnered with Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) to host the SciELO database on Web of KnowledgeSM, the world's most powerful search and discovery platform.

This partnership will help bring greater visibility and improved access to research from emerging economies, particularly Latin America, the Caribbean, South Africa, and developed Latin-language areas including Spain and Portugal. The SciELO database will be integrated into Web of Knowledge, enabling researchers to review and analyze relevant regional content alongside top-tier international literature.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with SciELO. This will not only enhance the reach of the important research taking place in Spanish-speaking developing countries, but it will also bring new depth to our own data," said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president at Thomson Reuters. "Researchers around the world will gain new insights into the impact of the works emanating from these regions."

Currently, SciELO publishes about 40 thousand new articles every year from over 900 open access journals from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Venezuela. The addition of SciELO to Web of Knowledge will follow a similar model to that of the Chinese Science Citation Database, which has been hosted on Web of Knowledge since 2008. Both databases are part of Thomson Reuters, to spotlight regionally relevant scholarly literature and identify influential authors and research within rapidly developing research centers.

"Supported by the Brazilian fund agency São Paulo Research Foundation, (FAPESP) since its inception in 1998, SciELO is one of the earliest initiatives to provide open access to the scientific literature. The agreement with Web of Knowledge opens new horizons in SCIELO's mission to enhance the visibility of the science done in Latin America, Spain and Portugal," said Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, scientific director of FAPESP.

"It's our mission to overcome the distribution and dissemination barriers that scientific journals from developing countries face by increasing the accessibility of locally generated scientific information," said Abel Packer, SciELO Coordinator. "Giving research in Latin America and other developing areas increased prominence within Web of Knowledge means that the contributions of our researchers will be a more visible part of the global scientific discourse."

Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge provides access to the world's largest citation databases, covering over 100 years of research in more than 24,000 of the highest impact journals from around the world, as well as thousands of academic conference proceedings and scholarly books.
