Nigerian, Ademola Adegoke, to eight and a half years imprisonment for using stolen credit card numbers to steal more than $400,000 from the US citizens. The convict, who pleaded guilty, to wire fraud and aggravated theft on July 30, 2010, has, however, agreed to pay restitution in the amount of $696,026. According to the US Department of Justice, a District Court Judge, Liam O’Grady, also ordered 43-year-old-Adegoke, who is a Ghanaian resident to serve two years of supervised release following his prison term. According to the Department of Justice, court documents had shown that, “Adegoke is a Nigerian national who was living in Accra. Adegoke used local Internet cafes in Accra to access e-mail accounts and voice over IP services, which made it appear that he was calling from the United States even though he was physically in Ghana. “He used e-mail and VOIP to purchase stolen credit card information online and then used those numbers to purchase airline tickets from travel agencies in the US and Canada as well as directly from airlines. “Adegoke sent e-mail or faxed copies of fraudulent passports and drivers licenses as well as images of credit cards with the stolen credit card number transposed over a blank card to the travel agency or airline. “ If he was able to convince the travel agency or airline to issue a ticket, he would call back, speak to the same agent and purchase additional tickets for customers who would pay him a fraction of the cost of the full fare. “In all, Adegoke purchased more than 5,000 stolen credit card numbers and was responsible for more than $400,000 in losses as a result of this scheme.” https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-539765.0.html |

Nigerian (SW) criminal gangs busted yet again http://naijanet.com/news/source/2009/sep/9/1000.html Naijanet.com Posted Tuesday, September 8, 2009 Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota: 11 Nigerians face federal charges for credit card scam BOB VON STERNBERG Eleven people have been charged in federal court in the Twin Cities with fraud for a counterfeit credit card scam that allegedly netted them more than $650,000. The defendants were charged last week with using the bogus cards to withdraw the cash from more than 170 automatic teller machines in the metro area. According to the criminal complaint filed last week in U.S. District Court, the defendants obtained personal information about customers of Capital One Bank from an online source based in the Ukraine. With the stolen information in hand, the defendants allegedly manufactured the counterfeit cards with that information. They were then able to obtain new personal ID numbers from the bank which allowed them to withdraw $652,205 from the teller machines. According to the complaint, some of the stolen money was converted into cashier checks and used to purchase vehicle parts or vehicles with salvage titles; the vehicles were then shipped to Nigeria, and sold at inflated prices. Some of the defendants allegedly recruited Nigerian residents in Minneapolis to buy vehicles at auto auctions, giving them cash to make the purchases. According to a U.S. Secret Service affidavit, one of the defendants bragged about how he could not "get caught conducting his illegal activity" because he was "very good at covering his tracks." Charged with one count of bank fraud and one count of access device fraud are Adekunle Kayode Ayeni, 27, Yewande Mariam Sholebo, unknown age, Adewale Alba Alli, unknown age, Olayemi Lateef Banjoko, unknown age, Idowu Ayinla Sadiq, unknown age, Abiodun Banjoko, unknown age, and Oyetoyin Oseni Atobatele, unknown age, all of Fridley; along with Bashiru Adelumola Fowoshere, 36, and Titilayo Abidewi Fowoshere, unknown age, both of Ramsey; Oriyomi Enitan Olowosago, unknown age, Brooklyn Park; and Ajibola Alli Fowoshere, 34, address unknown. Eight of the 11 were arrested last Friday, when they also made their initial court appearance. Three remain at large. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-321063.0.html __________________ |
dayokanu:Why do you always want me to punish you? Are you a stubborn goat? |
Onlytruth:Hehehe!! Nothing but weirdness upon weirdness and psycho talk. |
One Tobechi = 20 Yoruba credit card fraudsters. I am the master of pulling up such articles and I can bring up 20 Yoruba cases in place of one Tobechi, as we speak. |
I repeat: Credit card fraud is Yoruba turf. Igbos and Edos are babies here. Use your Nairaland search engine and educate yourself. |
Onlytruth:Who is he ? I hardly ever exchange with him here. He seems weird to me. I think he is Dr Osuji (PhD Psychology)from Mbaise in Imo State who always does not have anything good to say about himself and his own. In the larger realm of things people like that are inconsequential. |
Onlytruth:I know, bro. But they need to be willing to belong with us. No coercion. Got my drift? |
Can anyone enlighten me on the current status of Opobo in relation to their Igboness. I do not mean old history of Jaja; I know all that. How do they view us today? Have they been corrupted by their neighbors or the divisive Nigerian state into having a second thought about their Igboness? To the best of my knowledge, I have met only one Opobo person and he spoke perfect Igbo and told me he was Igbo. He is late now, otherwise I would have asked this of him.

Lasinoh:That is short-sighted BS. I buy African food stuff online all the way in MD (I live in the west coast) and the owner of the shop, whom I have not met before, is an Igbo lady. There are crooks everywhere (including your Edo state) but not everyone is a crook, even among the Yorubas where financial corruption is endemic. |
dem_people:Of course, only a fool will believe this. |
OP What is his name? I have not read this article but I swear with my xxxxxx that person must be a YORUBA. |
Where did this happen and who are these people?
|
Onlytruth:You do not need the world to divide Nigeria for you. Nigerians can do so themselves just like Russia did. That said, I love the idea of diversity. Personally I actually have few Igbo friends in real life compared to other Nigerian/African, or Asian/American/European friends. I have a very broad outlook in life because I have lived in many different continents. But this is about preserving what is left of peace and learning from the experience of Nigeria. We will have long term peace and stability being on our own. There is no guarantee that the issue of domination will not crop up with its devastating consequences. We are better of having them as friendly neighbouring countries with no visa issues between us. |
I just responded to let you know that this thread deserves a place in the garbage bin. |
General GEJ is not from the SS. He is Alj Harem People beware. |
Another Important proposal we need is to plan how to help Igbos in Lagos/SW devise a strategy of convincing their hosts, Yorubas, to be ready to secede and form their own country when other southerners are doing so. After staying this long in their land and hobnobbing with them at all levels, Igbos of SW should be able to accomplish this with minimal effort, hopefully. We do not want any traitors snitching with the North to try to repeat history.. Once they align with the North again, Igbos will have a hard time getting their own country. |
I believe that that Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Ogoni in Rivers can form a country of their own. They have many similarities. Ijaw can be on their own Igbo(SE and SS) can be on their own If you come from a boarder community along the Igbo/Akwa Ibom and Igbo Cross River boarders, you will know how explosive land matters are in those areas. Unlike the above states, as far as I know, there have been no land disputes between Imo and River States (Ohaji versus Ikwerre) (Ngor Okpala versus Etche) Neither between Abia and Rivers (Ukwa versus Etche or Oyigbo). Therefore, the Igbo-speaking people of Rivers State are naturally going to have no problem belonging to an Igbo-only country as long as every one is guaranteed equal representation at the highest levels of governance (read rotational presidency). With Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers and even Ijaw, despite any differences, I bet you that the boarders between them and us will be so porous that you can literally walk across them. We just would do better and respect each other better in different countries. Having them with us will be a regrettable action in the end unless they come to us willingly. My worry will be Opobo because though it is Igbo-speaking, it is completely enclosed by Ijaw and Akwa Ibo lands. Once we get some access to sea via Ikwerre (PH), ONNELGA and/or Ahoada (all Igbo areas), then I guarantee us becoming one the best countries in no distant time. |
Ezeagu, The interest of any Igbo man should be a country comprising only of Igbo-speaking peoples. Such a country will comprise of all the SE states and SS Igbos who are willing to join with their brothers in the SE. Including non-Igbo people in your country will only result to a country similar to Nigeria: babel of voices and dissents. I wager that the entire Igbos in Delta will come with us while Obigbo, Afam, ONNELGA (and perhaps Ahoada) in River Sstate will also come. The Ikwerres and Etches will be divided, some wanting an Igbo country others unsure. But in the end, with an Ijaw hegemony starring them in the face, they will have to make that quick expected decision. Opobo people will also likely be divided between coming with us, their original brothers, and staying with their adopted brothers, Ijaws. With an all Igbo country as specified above, there will be 5 provinces: West (Delta) Central (Anambra/Imo), East (Abia/part of Ebonyi), North (Enugu and part of Anambra) and South (Rivers Igbo) There will be rotational presidency between the provinces of a single 5 year term per province. The capital shall be in a central location (brand new) and there shall be AT LEAST 50% resource control and specified % contribution to the federal purse. There will be no indigeneship. Except for the presidency, you can contest an election in your province provided you have lived in that province for 5 years in a stretch. There is no point even thinking about the Annangs, Ibibios, Northern Cross Riverians and Ijaws. Let them sort themselves out. I will complete this soon. Running along now. |
Koruji: Where is the ethnic slant in this article? The man asked the question of all Nigerians. Why are you defensive? |
It is okay Obiagu. Jodeci and I are now best of friends. Obum ezigbo nwa afo. Please delete your comment. Thanks. |

koruji:I and other Nigerians here have protested (and still protest) BH activities on the the streets. I have already been interviewed by MSNBC to that effect. Don't be fooled that others are not doing something like you. The Hausa man asked a pertinent question. Can you answer it? |

Kano blasts: Northern leader decries nonchalant attitudes of Nigerians By RAZAQ BAMIDELE Monday, January 23, 2012 • Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section The Seriki Hausawa of Lagos State, Alhaji Aminu Idris Yaro has expressed sadness over the nonchalant attitudes of Nigerians towards the activities of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram leading to the death of many people and destruction of property worth billions of naira. The Seriki, who doubles as the Chairman of the Arewa Traditional Council in the state wondered why people refused to hit the street the way they did against fuel subsidy recently. According to him, it was a painful realization that people put their comfort far above the collective comfort of the Nigerian masses as was demonstrated recently by the protesters against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government. “In Nigeria when subsidy was removed on petroleum, people protested and shut down every activity and some patriots even died during the protests. But when hundreds of people were killed by sects using bombs, nobody stages protest or condemned it because it didn't happen in their vicinity, none of their relatives are affected or because they are afraid to speak and get bombed too,” the monarch queried. He asked rhetorically further: “Where is Occupy Nigeria? Where is El-Rufai? Where is Pastor Tunde Bakare? Where are the Celebrities, artistes and musicians? Where are the Opposition Parties? Where are Nigerians? Were they all in the blast that rocked Kano city? Why is everyone keeping mute now? Or is Kano State not part of Nigeria? Is this not a more serious issue for all Nigerians to wear black rags and truly ‘occupy Nigeria’ with peaceful protest against mass killings of innocent ones? Do we have energy and strength only on subsidy removal issues? Everyone seems to be afraid now. What a big shame?” While expressing grief, Yaro could not understand why, “when hundreds of people were killed senselessly in the past few months, all toothless bulldogs can't even bark any more let alone bite because money is not involved for them to fight for,” warning Nigerians to be guided not to be used by self seeking opposition, but join hands together to build a great and united Nigeria. |
