your car before it was shipped to naija was used in a very cold region , tell your mechanic to remove the thermostat , permanent the fans and also check the polarity of the fan (the temperature gauge will never go beyond that normal position ).

Under no circumstances should vehicle temp exceed the half mark, unless there is a defect in the cooling system which I am assuming there is not, and that takes me back to the first quote about mileage.

In Nigeria 9/10 vehicles have had their mileages rolled back (BCD tins) how this is done in most cases is to take out the instrument cluster do some quick reprogramming and presto 500k miles becomes 25k. Sadly the cows that do the actual work are usually sloppy and don't return dials to the factory rest positions which I turn could result in first quote. There are several quick ways to confirm if it is a defect.

1. Crude method . Start the engine (AC off) Open the bonnet and watch the temp go up, the second the fans start working check the needle, if it is over the half mark, then the temp dial is wrongly placed.

2. Technical way. Plug a scan tool and leave it on live scan, start car with a/c off search for coolant temp in scan tool, when the needle goes above half in vehicle , compare data in scan tool, if over 100deg Celcius, then there is a problem, if it's relaxing between 90-98deg Celcius you are fine and again the temp dial is wrongly placed.


How does this all work.

The cooling system of your car has computer that monitors engine temp (among other things) the mechanical thermostat opens up at about 86degrees Celcius and allows hot coolant flow from the engine to the radiator, the fans don't kick in till about 96degrees (low speed) and stay on till the temp drops to 89degrees then the cycle repeats with the coolant in the radiator dropping to temps lower than the engine coolant temp which shuts the mechanical thermostat up waiting for engine temps to heat up an the cycle continues.

your vehicle is a smart one. there is a module in charge of controlling the AC system. kindly carry out a system scan to see if there is any stored codes.
also a simple visual inspection will really help. check the wiring of the fan and other related systems.
also kindly note not all vehicles act the same way. for some vehicles, the AC fan will never be turned on by the AC module if the whether is cold enough. in some it will. i have a feeling your AC might be working as it should. however get it checked (not scatter scatter o) by a competent technician...

Please I need urgent advise on this. I just bought the Lexus and it is not up to 3 months. Due to my experience with my old Camry muscle, I am very careful not to get the new car into any overheating mess.

When I start the car early in the morning, in an idle state and turn on the AC, the radiation fan does not spin. I think it should spin immediately the AC is turned on.

If I leave the car idle for thirty minutes and the temperature is even above the half guage, the radiator fan will still not spin.

However, when I drive around, the fan picks and works normally. Spins for a while and cut...

At this point, if I put on the AC, the fan spins but never cut until the AC is turned off.

I am afraid to visit my kazeem even though he is a bit learned and uses diagnostic tools. I call him Kazeem because he advised I remove the thermostat of my old muscle and connect the fan direct which I believe it's what killed the muscle.

Kindly advise.

Engine first, no matter the number of cylinders (including viscous fan coupling, except the mechanical locked fan like PAN XN1 engine in 504 & 505).

Electric and Viscous fan would spin 30 minutes later or so depending on the coolant temperature or with A/C on.

Hello Sir. I am curious about the integrity of my Lexus' radiator fan. When I start it early in the morning at idle and put on the AC, the radiator fan does not spin and sometimes I even wait till the temperature guage go beyond half guage but the radiator fan won't come on. It is until I drive the car, that the fan start working. Should this be?

It will certainly not come on in the morning unless you drive. Thats because there is no load on the engine to cause it to heat beyond the set thermostat temp. The only reason the temperature even got that far to the middle is because of the thermostat.

What if you put the AC on without driving in the morning?

This one na long thing. It will cost you a lot of money to get it done properly. Around 130k thereabout to get a new auto compressor.

I just got a Lexus ES350 and all tyres are bad. I am in between buying a new China tyre or Toks cus of financial constraints. I have never used a Tokunbo Tyre but the guy who is going to fix the tyres is persuading me to save money and go for toks cus China tyres are not durable.

By the way a China tyre is 18k, that is
72k for the four while Toks is 10k for what he called commercial tyre which is 40k for all four.

Please advise.
