Lol....slowpoke? Atleast I still think and act and definitely cautious but not slowly.
Are you going to take charge of bringing the policemen to justice? Justice would have started when they began to assault civilian. Stop pretending you do not know how things work in your dear nigeria. The "hooligans" are traders who have been pushed to wall by uniform men and their reaction is what you see.
I remember soldiers burning down a BRT bus, where is that case? APO six nko? The pregnant woman beaten recently, etc

If you cannot do something to change your uniform men mentality hold your peace. Who is the slowcoach? Let your conscience answer you.

IPOB Youth
First off, you and your cohorts need to understand that if you are assaulted by any officer of the law, you can file a lawsuit and seek remedies. Yes, that option is available to you. But if in your foolishness you believe that jungle justice is the only option available to you, then I'm sorry, you are ignorant of your rights. Rioting, looting, and bombing police stations are the worst courses of action you could have taken.

Get a good lawyer to represent you in matters such as this, you'd be better off than becoming a criminal in the process of responding to a potential crime perpetrated against you.

Are you a slowpoke? Bombing any building is 'criminality'

The hooligans destroying property in Aba are not law enforcement officials but criminals, by the same token, any policeman who shoots citizens for no just cause should be charged to court for justice.

I think it is time to declare state of emergency in Aba, send military in, and restore law and order. There is no need to allow criminally minded folks to cause unnecessary loss of the life of a single Nigerian. This criminality must be arrested now before it gets out of hand like BH & other criminal/terrorist operations.

It really should not matter whether the DG of DSS is a member of APC or PDP. What is necessary is that the DG is of good character and high integrity.

These PDP goons would rather have a DG who will be sympathetic to their thieving and criminal ways. The good news is that most Nigerians will support any DG who will bring the rouges to justice and recover stolen loot. We don't care whether the DG belongs to APC, PDP, APGA, or any other party as long as he is constitutionally qualified to hold the position.

We will not cater for or have any sympathy for PDP barayi, or APC barayi for that matter.

Duru1:
Were you new to Nigerian historical facts? There wer such incitement of riots in northern region before the pogrom of 1966. The long speeches of hatred directed to a particular ethnic nationality in northern region by Ahmadu Bello and ridicules of certain ethnicity at the floor of northern regional house of assembly by the members of NPC were precursor to pogrom. One example was the Jos riot instigated by the British. I guess the coup was also responsible for riots of 1945 and 1952.
It is intellectually dishonest to ignore the fact that, the outcome of the Jan 15 coup was the trigger for the series of unfortunate events, including the pogroms and civil war. The said outcome includes the cold blooded murder of Sardauna & Balewa. This is the point being made. You can bury your head in the sand and ignore this fact if you wish; you will not succeed in putting the wool over the eyes of gullible readers..

p.s. Soon enough I will post my response to your other ridiculous post.

This is the first sentence of the thread: "After independence, a political alliance made between the leading Hausa and Igbo political parties, which ruled Nigeria from 1960 to 1966 had excluded the mainstream Yoruba parties under Awolowo". Please note that I was not born yesterday. If NPC and NCNC were not inferred in your previous post, can you expatiate the followings: a political alliance made between the leading Hausa and Igbo political parties. Were you referring to APC and PDP in that condescending statement?
I am not going to argue with you about NPC or NCNC as these political parties are irrelevant to the larger point being made - the point I might add, you are well aware of.

The emphasis was on the fact that the power brokers of the day, regardless of their political affiliation, had excluded the mainstream Yoruba parties under Awolowo. To many, Igbo people were considered to be the main beneficiaries of this alliance, taking most of the top jobs and leading business opportunities in the Nigerian federation. Are you disagreeing with this assertion or just nit picking?

This is irrelevant to the thread's topic. No one mentioned NPC or NCNC but you.

Fact: January 15, 1966 coup in Nigeria was not Igbo coup
It appears that early blindness has started to set in o. Did you read this sentence in my post at all: "I do not believe that the coup of January 15, 1966 was meant to be an Igbo coup" ?

Fact: The coup was precipitated by Nigerian army officers led by Igbo and Yoruba descents.
Fact: British, BBC, Gowon, Yusuf and Baba Usman connived to brand the coup an Igbo.
The 2 "facts" of yours above are unsubstantiated and are figments of your imagination and phobia. Stop manufacturing "facts"

There is no question emotions were high, but that right there was the reason not to base any decision on emotions.
Even personal issues and decisions are negatively influenced by emotions, not to talk of nation issues.
More northern officers died in the first coup, but let's not forget the Igbo officer, Unegbu who was killed by the coupists too, because he refused to release arms to them.
Igbos would never have cared if those 5 officer were roasted alive and made suya, but the opportunistic agents in the north saw an opportunity they have been looking since the first riot against Igbos in 1940s.
Despite all you've written up there, I maintain that the pogroms which lead to the civil war would have never happened, if the January 15th coup had not taken place with the effect that of the six plotters, only one (Ademoyega) was not Igbo, and going through a list of their victims, there was only one Igbo man (Lt. Col. A. Unegbe) killed. And more importantly, the North lost the core of its political elite (Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello), and some of their best military officers.

The acceptance of these unfortunate facts is necessary for any meaningful healing to take place. If you continue to hang on to the belief that the pogroms were bound to take place because there were disagreements back in 1940s, then you sir need to stop burying your head in the sand.

You people need to let bygones be bygones, and join hands with the rest of Nigeria to build this great country and move it to the next level.

Politics › Why Islamic Scholars Are Silent On Boko Haram, By Governor Kashim Shettima by nduchucks(op):
The fight against Boko Haram cannot succeed unless leading Islamic scholars with mass followers come out of their silence to preach against the ideology from an intellectual perspective so as to change the narrative to discourage young men from being recruited by the sect.

Governor Kashim Shettima whose state, Borno, has been at the centre of attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents has said.

The governor said that notable Islamic scholars with the capacity to fight the ideology through preaching have maintained silence because they were afraid of being killed like many of their colleagues who were without security details to protect them from the sect.

Shettima made the observation when he delivered a paper entitled, “Democracy and Security in Northeast, Nigeria – The Case Study of Borno” at a fellowship and award dinner organised by the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during which he was awarded Governor ?of the Year, 2014, at Sheraton Hotel in Abuja.

“Changing the ideology of the Boko Haram will require intellectual roles by leading Islamic scholars with mass appeal.

“It is most disturbing to note that today in northern Nigeria, there is no single Islamic scholar that preaches against the Boko Haram ideology and the reason is because everyone is afraid.

“Leading scholars like Sheikh Jaafar Mahmud Adam and Sheikh Albani Zaria who vehemently preached against the ideology have been killed.

“In Maiduguri, scholars like Sheikh Ibrahim Gomari, Malam Bashir Gomari and over 30 different scholars who were opposed to the Boko Haram ideology have all been killed.

“Today, the only group in the north that can speak against the sect are holders of public offices who have security men surrounding them.
shocked shocked

“It is hugely important for us to identify Islamic scholars with the intellectual depth and mass followers to change the Boko Haram narrative so that we can save young souls from listening to the sect.

“We must support these scholars and provide them with maximum security for not only them but their families as much as public office holders are adequately protected.

“These scholars will be performing very important national security assignments that are as important as those of any public office holder, no matter how highly placed,” Shettima said in his prepared paper that was delivered by his Deputy, Zannah Umar Mustapha.

Governor Shettima whose paper went memory lane to discuss the evolution of the sect in Borno blamed democratic institutions for failing to address the problem at the early stage.

He also blamed leaders including himself for not rising up to the occasion. The Governor also blamed journalists for unknowingly helping insurgents.

“We all have roles to play in addressing the insurgency because we all contributed in the making whether by indifference, by directly fueling it, by failing to address it or by standing in the ways of those who make efforts to address the problems. No active group is free from blame, from those of us who are political actors to even journalists,” he said.

“In exercising its freedom of expression and sharing of information, the media has had running battles with those in position of authority; security agencies in particular.

“Oftentimes, security agencies devise strategies aimed at fighting insurgents but these strategies end up being disclosed by the media and as a result, these steps are killed by these media reports despite enormous human and material resources that might have been put in by security agencies over time.

“In some cases, deployments made to haunt insurgents get reported, thus giving insurgents clues about number of boots coming after them, sometimes including telling the world the routes being taken by troops. Insurgents in turn prepare to ambush troops. Apart from these instances, certain avoidable reports give undue superiority to Boko Haram, which boost their confidence. In fact, disorganised commanders of Boko Haram rely on the media to reach their fighters.

“I remember with serious concerns, how a particular media house reported in April, 2015, that leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau was calling on his followers to continue fighting and not to relent in their struggles. A national and otherwise respected media house reported this.

“I also remember how another media house reported someone calling himself a soldier, alleging that Nigerian troops were behind Boko Haram attacks and I was wondering how unreasonable it was for someone to declare that his only eyes with which he sees are rotten, when the alternative to those eyes, is simply blindness. What do we do if we are made to believe that those who are our only hope are those killing us? That would be a hopeless situation.

“These instances however, are not to say that the media hasn’t helped in the fight against Boko Haram. The media has done far more positive things than posing some challenges. Journalists even sacrificed their lives in an attempt to expose activities of insurgents. The media remains a hero in the fight against insurgency.

“Perhaps, even on the challenges posed by the media in exposing security strategies, I think the problem has largely been refusal to take the media into confidence. The worst mistake one in authority can make is to disregard or underrate the capacity of a journalist to know what the man in authority tries to hide. So long as you want to hide, the journalist wants to expose. For me, the best approach is to take a journalist into confidence by treating him or her as a partner rather than an opponent.

“I therefore respectfully suggest that the incoming President and National Executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) consider the need to establish a National Standing Committee on Strategic Media and Security Co-operation under the co-chairmanship of the NUJ President and may be the National Security Adviser or any appropriate official with President of the editors guild to serve as Secretary.”

BTW, why mention Ihejirika, probably one of the best COAS we had? You do know he was SOLELY responsible for the Counter-Insurgency/Assymetric warfare and Counter-Terror programmes implemented in the Nigerian Army, and was the brains behind the rebirth of the Army's Special Forces groups, same teams hunting down BH leadership till date, right?

Seriously, stop yapping.
nwanne m, Boko Haram is currently on the run and will soon be completely disabled once the Joint task force being put in place start full operations. The suicide bombings we are witnessing will soon be a thing of the past as the Boko Haram leaders are eliminated.

This elimination process, unfortunately, has been hitherto thwarted by the unprofessional manner with which previous leadership, particularly under Ihejirika, committed atrocities including gross human rights violations such as beheadings, which are still preventing some of our allies from selling needed Arms to us.

Expectedly, Army barracks can no longer be attacked as routinely done under GEJ and Ihejirika, because competent leadership is in place.

Normalcy will fully return once the suicide bombings are put under control. Very soon the real leaders of Boko Haram, who are Nigerians, by the way, will come out and negotiate a political solution or face annihilation.

The men who were their boyfriends were not labeled. These people should be left alone, in my humble opinion.

Unfortunately, as a personal matter, I can't endorse same sex marriage of any form. This type of marriage is indeed very unAfrican.

At the time of that coup, majority of the senior officers corps of the Nigerian Army were all Igbos. Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu was born and raised in Kaduna. He spoke far better Hausa than he could Igbo. Would it be right to say that this man led a coup to enthrone the Igbos? Everybody knows that it was the political disturbances of 1964 to 65 is what caused Nzeogwu and co to strike. It was not an Igbo coup, it was made to look that way to justify the wholesale slaughter the northern officers would perpetrate 6 months later.
Sir, who intentionally made the coup to look like an Igbo coup to justify wholesale slaughter, as you put it? Are you insinuating that there was a plan for the "pogroms" before the coup and that the pogroms were not reactions to the said coup?
