Politics / How Tribalism Could Have Been Defeated In Nigeria by Nefort: 8:35pm On Mar 20, 2023 |
Ever since the election season started the matter became a tribal issue between mainly between Yorubas and Igbos as we have seen on Nairaland. The best presidential candidate became all about which tribe you came from. Yorubas feel Tinubu is the best while Igbos feel Peter Obi is the best. The Lagos governorship election eventually became more of a tribal struggle between Yorubas and Igbos. One of the things that should have been done to prevent these tribal issues as soon as Nigeria became a country is to evenly mix up all the ethnicities in Nigeria in such a way that we shouldn't have a particular tribe only occupying a certain part of the country. When we have Yorubas occupying only the western side and Hausas/Fulanis only occupying the northern side and Igbos occupying the east it all made it look like we have 3 countries in Nigeria pretending and deceiving themselves to be united as one country. Having the various tribes in Nigeria living separately made us too conscious of our tribe which breeds tribalism. For us to have true national unity we are supposed to have every tribe evenly spread out in all parts of the country and then completely dismantling the use of state of origins to determine who can govern any state. In Igbo land for instance we are supposed to have about 30% Igbos, 25% Yorubas, 25% Hausas and 20% other tribes. The same ethnic distribution should also apply in other regions between the indigenes and other tribes. Anybody from any tribe should be able to govern any state as long as you are a citizen of the state according to the number of years you have spent living in the state and your deep understanding of the region. If we had all the ethnicities evenly mixed up then tribalism would never have been an issue in Nigeria because the relationship among the tribes will be wider and stronger. Biafra agitation would have made no sense and impracticable if all ethnicities were evenly mixed up. Zoning the presidency would have been meaningless. All these tribal statements saying: "Go back to your land", "You want to claim my land" would have been nonsense because the whole of Nigeria will become a no man's land in a positive sense. To mix up the ethnicities at the early stages of the country's creation there was supposed to be something like incentives that makes living outside your ancestral land more attractive than living in your ancestral land. Examples of the incentives could be things like more employment opportunities for the non indigenes, cheaper land and more affordable housing for non indigenes, lower taxes and more ease of doing business for the non indigenes. Nigeria can work. But there is going to be a HARD RESET by implementing some vital measures, and one of the measures should definitely including mixing up the tribes across the country to mitigate tribalism. |
Politics / Re: Guber Polls: Ezekwesili Blasts Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu Over Attack On Igbos In Lagos by Nefort: 1:35pm On Mar 19, 2023 |
MeineMutter:You keep saying nonsense and sounding very uneducated. So because Christians voted for him that makes him a religious bigot? Did he ever ask only Christians to vote for him? Didn't muslims vote for him as well even though lesser in numbers at the north? Many Muslims voted for Tinubu does that make him a religious bigot as well? You are the one that said Peter Obi is only known in Igbo land. And I asked you what about the votes he got outside Igbo land no matter how small? So you think it's only Igbos that gave him over 6 million votes? |

MeineMutter:It's not about being known. It's about character and competence. Many people in the north are uneducated so I expect them to vote name over competence. But in the South West with more educated people there is no way Rochas will beat Peter Obi if only two of them are on the ballot. |
Politics / Re: Guber Polls: Ezekwesili Blasts Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu Over Attack On Igbos In Lagos by Nefort: 7:44am On Mar 19, 2023 |
MeineMutter:I am sorry to inform you that visiting the north to sit on the floor with emirs and sultans or attending mosque prayers is not enough to make you win the northern votes. Rochas Okorocha and Orji Uzor Kalu have been publicly licking the ass of the north but Peter Obi still has a higher chance of being president than Rochas and Orji Uzor. The major thing that made it possible for Tinubu to become president elect today is because he joined forces with Buhari to build a stronger party to unseat Goodluck Jonathan. After looting Lagos dry Tinubu had enough money to buy his way through APC primaries and then win the presidential elections by winning several northern states which APC already controlled. Tinubu didn't win because he built any bridges in the north by wandering about in the north attending weddings or visiting the emirs or sultans. 1 Like |

bakynes:What makes you think Peter Obi didn't try to build bridges? Didn't he visit the northern leaders while campaigning for election? How exactly do you want him to build bridges then? You mention the Hausas go along with whichever candidate the indigenes go with and that's a lie. What you should say is that Hausas don't make noise about who they intend voting for. Probably because they are not much on social media like the Igbos. 1 Like |

Hundreds or thousands of candidates will apply and then they choose a few number to progress to the next round. From the things you said I should be the one telling you you ain't in tech and not aware of how things work.
