Who is actually robbing God?.. BOWEN UNIVERSITY N650,000 per semester COVENANT UNIVERSITY N640,000 per semester BENSON IDAHOSA N500,000 per semester BABCOCK UNIVERSITY N450,000 per semester REDEEMERS UNIVERSITY N450,000 per semester AJAYI CROWTHER UNIVERSITY N350,000 per semester MADONNA UNIVERSITY N350,000 per semester. All these UNIVERSITIES were built from TITHES and OFFERINGS of the common people who now can't afford to send their children to these schools today. Where is the morals and responsibilities of the churches as charity in Nigeria? What is the difference between church and political leadership in Nigeria? These schools were all built with the sweats of their church members who kept sowing seeds like: -special offering seeds -first fruit seed, -redemption seed, -thanksgiving seed, -harvest seed, -tithes, -pastor's seed, -church building seed, -evangelism seed, -father's day seed, -mother's day seed, -children' day seed, -Pastor's cake seed, -olive oil seed....etc. These schools are now elite schools, only for the rich politician children. The gainers then use the profits to buy private planes & jets to fly up high in luxury, ride Exotic Cars and live in expensive Mansions, while their members, (who are mostly the least of Jesus people) sleep hungry. The next Sunday, they will read Malachi 3:6-12 to these members again without making reference to Deuteronomy 14:22-29 about their own responsibility to these poor members in their churches. If you think this is unfair, like me, please pass on this message because this is reality and we also need the CHANGE here!!! Thank God for early missionaries who built schools and gave basic education FREE or NEAR FREE to many of us including the CURRENT LEADERSHIP of these churches and universities. The TRUTH is a bitter pill to swallow.

Poems For Review / I Love You More When I Miss You by nelch05(m): 9:50pm On Oct 30, 2016
Where is the way through....when its seem there no way...
In you where is the light ...
As It seems so dark like it night ...
Where is my world...
When its feels everything is gone for good..
But sometimes I hope my stars shall light up the Sky again..

When you are gone its feels that the moon has stop shinning on me.. Oh even when the moon never loses it light..
When you are gone, can your love be found any where on earth? it could be in a place as lonely as mid night...when the gentle breeze could felt...when everything else has laid to rest ...I just can't stop thinking of you.
When you are gone,My hearth may whisper your name but no one is here to answer,oh now I know that I missed you..

When I close my eyes I only see your face which is as beautiful as the Morning Sun, your Smile as bright as the light.. which never let my heart be at rest even when I'm losing my breath..
When I missed you it feels like am six feet under the ground but your love never gone from me, even when you are no more, I can still feel you right from the deepest part of me where I keep your love under Lock and Key...
I love you More Sweetheart, when I missed you

Religion / Christ The Only Way To Salvation by nelch05(m): 9:12pm On Oct 30, 2016
Dear Brethren,
As it may interest you to know, GOD always desire us all to have Salvation for that reason he sent his only be gotten son to come and save us.
Today I will like us to consider some few scripture in-oder to get the true meaning of Salvation."Salvation could be summed up to be deliverance" Deliverance? From what? Ok we will look at the Old Testament meaning and then New Testament, When the Israelites came out of Egypt and reached the Red Sea, Moses told them
to “stand still, and see the salvation of the
LORD” (Exodus 14:13). In this case, God provided a physical deliverance for Israel from the armies of Egypt.
In the New Testament, the term “salvation” is
specially used to refer to the great deliverance from the penalty of sin, which is eternal death (Romans 6:23). That is why the book of Hebrews calls it “so great a salvation” (Hebrews 2:3).
Why do we need salvation?
Why does man need to be saved? First, we go back to the time when man was created by God in the garden. “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man
became a living being "soul", KJV]” (Genesis2:7).
Later, the prophet Ezekiel noted that all souls (living beings) belong to God. “Behold all souls are Mine; the soul of the father, as well as the soul of the son is Mine; the soul who sins shall die” (Ezekiel 18:4).
This is repeated again in verse 20: “The soul who sins shall die.”
Every human being (except for Jesus Christ) has
sinned. Yes through Adamic nature we inherited at birth “For all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The penalty for sin is death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
So man needs to be saved—delivered from eternal death—and to be given the gift of God, which is eternal life. That is why salvation is necessary, and why Jesus came to the earth as a human being. “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). Salvation is only possible by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
Now at this point let us see the story of a Tax collector in (Luke 19) Zacchaeus was a chief Tax collector and in those days tax collectors were seen as great sinners.. But when the people saw that jesus has decided to stayed at his place they condemned Zacchaeus as a great sinner since he was ready to receive salvation he told our lord jesus Immediately "I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have receive anything from any anyone by false I restore it fourfold"after hearing this and seeing the zeal jesus answered and said to him "Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham"
Surely from the story these point are to be noted;
God is willing to receive those who come to regain their freedom from sin anytime.
Salvation is always available for any one who think they are deeply in their sin God will always forgive you. That's why he is a merciful God no matter how people may condemned you he will receive just make up your mind.
You must be ready to give up everything to follow christ the tax collector was ready to give back everything he false fully collect from anyone. Salvation is always there for anybody that is christ died for our sin so it may be forgiven.

Has Jesus done anything yet?

Politics / Ikpeazu Insists After Sack By Court: I’m Still Governor by nelch05(m): 1:17pm On Jun 28, 2016
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu yesterday urged Abia State residents not to panic after a court ordered him to vacate office immediately.
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Enyinnaya Appolos, said Ikpeazu will appeal the judgment
The governor noted that as an appointee of the Abia State Government from 2011 to 2014, when he served as the General Manager, Abia State Passengers Integrated Manifest and Safety Scheme (ASPIMSS), and first Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) Aba and Environs, before his resignation in October 2014 to contest the governorship election, his taxes within the period were deducted at source. When he needed his tax clearance in 2014, he applied to the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue and was issued with his tax receipts for the period in question, he said.
Ikpeazu maintained that he remained the governor, according to the law, and will await the final determination of the matter by the appellate courts.
Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday voided Ikpeazu’s election on the ground that he was not qualified to have contested.
The judge held that the evidence before the court supported the plaintiff’s position that Ikpeazu made a false claim in relation to the information he submitted to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Abang, who upheld arguments by plaintiffs’ lawyers Alex Iziyon (SAN) and Femi Falana (SAN), said having lied about his tax clearance certificates and personal income tax receipts, Ikpeazu failed to meet the requirement under Article 14(a) of the PDP Electoral Guideline for its primary elections.
The judge said as against the requirement under Article 14(a) of the PDP Guideline, requiring a candidate for its primary election to provide evidence of his payment of personal income tax as at when due in the last three years, there was no reliable evidence before the court that Ikpeazu paid his tax regularly three years before he contested the party’s primary on December 8, 2014.
The judge spoke in two separate judgments in the suits by Dr. Samson Uchechukwu Ogah vs. PDP and Obasi Uba Eleagbara and 2 others vs. PDP and two others.
“He lied in his declaration to INEC that he fulfilled all requirements to stand election, whereas he did not. The issue before the court is disqualification to participate in the first defendant (PDP’s) primary election for Abia State. It is not whether he was qualified under Section 177 of the Constitution to contest the governorship election.
“Since there is no provision for independent candidate, it is material that he must first meet the PDP requirement as stipulated in Article 14(a) of the PDP Electoral Guidelines,” the judge said.
The judge said since Ikpeazu was not qualified to contest the PDP primary by making false claim in his tax information submitted to his party, and which his party later submitted to INEC, he breached Section 31 of the Constitution.
Justice Abang ordered the PDP to submit to INEC as its candidate for the last governorship election in Abia, the name of the aspirant with the second highest votes in the party’s last primary because Ikpeazu, who came first, was not qualified to participate in the primary. He said the votes recorded in the primary by Ikpeazu were wasted votes.
The judge, who identified several discrepancies in the tax documents Ikpeazu submitted to his party, noted that the three receipts bore the same date of July 4 for the annual income tax he claimed to have paid in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
He noted that if, as he claimed that his annual income tax was deducted annually by his employer, being a civil servant, he ought to have simply obtained evidence of such payment from his employer and not obtain receipts form the State Tax Board, with similar dates and serial numbers. He noted that one of the receipts carried December 31, 2011 as its issuance date, but pointed out that the date was a Saturday, a no-work day in Abia State. He wondered why the receipt was issued on Saturday

Sports / Euro 2016: England’s Manager Quits by nelch05(m): 12:58pm On Jun 28, 2016
Roy Hodgson has resigned as England manager after his side suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Iceland on Monday to crash out of the 2016 European Championship in France.
The fact that he has won just three of 11 games in major tournament finals was always there to haunt him.
England had suffered their worst humiliation since they were knocked out of the 1950 World Cup by the U.S. in Brazil as Iceland shocked them out of contention.
After Wayne Rooney’s 4th minute penalty kick, Iceland equalised within a minute as England failed to deal with a trademark long throw, before Ragnar Sigurdsson bundled home from close range.
Iceland — with a population of just 330,000 — were among the lowest-ranked teams in France at 34 in the world.

“I’m sorry it will have to end this way but these things happen,’’ Hodgson said while explaining his resignation.
“Now is the time for someone else to oversee the progress of a hungry and extremely talented group of players.
“They have done fantastically and done everything asked of them. I hope you will still be able to see an England team in a final of a major tournament soon.’’
Hodgson, who won 33 of his 56 games as England boss, would have been out of contract at the end of the tournament.
The former Liverpool and West Brom boss was due to discuss a possible contract renewal.
But Football Association (FA) chairman Greg Dyke had said he (Hodgson) would only stay on if England “do well’’ in France.
In a statement issued following Hodgson’s resignation, the FA said: “Like the nation, we are disappointed to lose this evening and that our run in Euro 2016 has come to a premature end.
“We had high hopes of progressing through to the latter stages of the competition and accept that we have not met our own expectations or those of the country.
“We back Roy Hodgson’s decision to step down as England manager and will discuss next steps imminently.’’
England had qualified for Euro 2016 with a 100 per cent record in their group had started the finals with a 1-1 draw against Russia. They had gone on to beat Wales 2-1 and draw 0-0 with Slovakia in their final Group B game.
The results that left them in second place and in a tougher half of the draw.
Hodgson had faced heavy criticism following the Slovakia game for making six changes to the side that had beaten Wales.
Under Hodgson’s guidance, England had reached the quarter-finals of the last European Championship in 2012, losing to Italy on penalty kicks, before a dismal showing at the 2014 World Cup.
They had then in Brazil gone out at the group stages without winning a game.
Hodgson also confirmed that assistants Ray Lewington and Gary Neville would also leave their posts.
In a reaction, former England striker Alan Shearer described the Iceland defeat as the team’s worst performance.
“That was the worst performance I’ve ever seen from an England team. Ever.
“We were out-fought, out-thought, out-battled and totally hopeless for 90 minutes. It looked to me like Roy was making it up as he was going along.’’
Shearer, who revealed he wanted to become England manager before Hodgson was appointed, added: “Our players caved tonight.
They caved and the manager caved.’’
Another former England international, Jermaine Jenas, said Hodgson “didn’t know” what he was doing, adding “He didn’t know his best team or system.

Politics / Bid To Dock Saraki, Ekweremadu: How Buhari Has Turned Into A Dictator – Senate by nelch05(m): 12:29am On Jun 22, 2016
ALLEGED FORGED SENATE RULES: Fury in NASS over bid to dock Saraki, Ekweremadu ABUJA— Outrage overflowed in the two chambers of the National Assembly, yesterday, over bid to arraign the two presiding officers of the Senate for alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Rules 2015, with the Senate pointedly accusing President Muhmmadu Buhari of turning into a dictator. Following a four-hour closed-door session, the Senate in a unanimous resolution, summoned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to appear before its Committee on Judiciary within two days, even as senators across party lines affirmed that the Rule Book, allegedly forged, remains authentic. The Senate resolution also claimed a plot by the Presidency to remove its leadership through what it described as a coup. The indignation in the Senate over the planned arraignment of Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, also spilled over to the House of Representatives, which in a similar resolution, called on the President to keep to the constitution in his decisions in order not to abort the nation’s democracy. Similarly, the PDP caucuses in the Senate and House of Representatives, in separate meetings, also lambasted the Presidency, with the PDP senators resolving, henceforth, to stop all manner of cooperation with the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration. The PDP House caucus at a press conference in the National Assembly building, vowed to resist any plot to remove the presiding officers of the Senate, describing it as an attempt to foist a dictatorship on the country. Meanwhile, the reality of the showdown crystallized, yesterday, evening as judicial officials pasted the summons on Saraki and Ekweremadu to appear before the Federal High Court on June 27. The summons was pasted by way of substituted service, and it became the first time the two men were formally being notified of their prosecution. The Senate resolution followed a four-hour closed door session presided over by Senator Ekweremadu. Senate summons Attorney-General Following the session, Senator Dino Melaye (APC, Kogi West), upon a matter of urgent public importance, raised a motion accusing the Buhari administration of attempting to change the leadership of the Senate by muzzling the legislative arm. The motion, which was adopted unanimously without dissent, warned that the Senate might be compelled to withdraw its support for the administration if it continued to interfere in its domestic affairs. The Senate said the attorney-general must appear to “justify with evidence the basis for his action and why it does not constitute gross misconduct, incompetence, contempt of court and abuse of office.” It insisted that the “Senate Rule 2015 was not forged” and that “it is the authentic rule of the Senate.” The motion, tagged: “Motion on the imminent threat to our democracy as it relates to the alleged invitation of our principal officers by the court in Abuja,” asked the Senate to rise and defend democracy. Melaye’s motion went further: “This Senate notes further that the judiciary had through several rulings in a recent case suit no AFC/ABJ/CS/646/2015 on the same issue, warned the executive arm from treading the path of criminalising or interfering in the running of the internal affairs of the Senate. “This Senate, therefore, acknowledges the grave implications this emerging trend poses to the security, continued existence, unity, and survival of our dear country. “This Senate is aware that the legislature is subject to provisions of the constitution to regulate its procedures as explicitly stated in Section 60 of the Nigerian Constitution, which we have all sworn to uphold.” He said he was disturbed that instead of “applying itself to the myriads of problems confronting the nation, including the escalating cost of living, extremism, worsening insecurity, rising ethnic divisions, skyrocketing unemployment, declining national productivity and an economy nose-diving into recession, the executive continued to be hell-bent on chasing rats while the federation burns.” Upon that and other resolutions, the Senate declared that if its rules were fake, then the treatments the President had received using the same rules were fake.

Crime / ‘jealous Wife Of Native Doctor Bathed Me With Acid’ by nelch05(m): 7:53am On May 22, 2016
And I appeal that the investigation should be accelerated because justice delayed is justice denied. Life has become so frustrating but I thank God for his mercies Sunday Vanguard learnt that the matter is being investigated by the homicide section of the Edo Police. It was said that the wife of the native doctor has been interrogated and some other persons questioned also.
Spokesman for the state Police Command, Abiodun Osifo, who hinted that detectives were investigating the matter, described the attack on the victim as wicked, assuring that the suspects will be arrested in due course.
“We appeal to members of the public to help us with useful information because, without information, the police can do little or nothing. This is a crime against God and humanity and we must not condone it. How can somebody bath a fellow human being with acid? Even if the person is your enemy, does that make sense? Such people must face the law no matter where they are hiding. You cannot run forever. I believe the police will uncover the suspects and bring them to justice”

Politics / APC To Wike: Explain The N700m Poll Bribery Scam by nelch05(m): 9:43pm On May 21, 2016
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers has urged Gov. Nyesom Wike to explain his role in the alleged N700 million poll bribery scam in which his name is mentioned.

This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Chris Finebone, APC Publicity Secretary in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The APC alleged that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) grilled, Mr Johnson Okpoko, the state PDP Secretary, for collecting N700 million from the controversial $115 million lodged with Fidelity Bank.

It alleged that the money was lodged by the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, and used to bribe Independent National Electoral Commission officials in Rivers.

The statement said the aim was to influence INEC officials to change results to favour the PDP during the 2015 general elections across Nigeria.

“It is almost a week since the news came out of the EFCC that the detained PDP Secretary told the anti-graft agency that he collected N700 million from Fidelity Bank on the instruction of Wike.

“However, Gov. Wike has kept sealed lips about the revelation by the PDP State Secretary who is about to be charged to court soon by the anti-graft agency.

“The APC notes that whereas the anti-graft agency might put the invitation of the governor on hold because of constitutional immunity, he is already being investigated,’’ the statement alleged.

The statement said this was because immunity did not prevent the EFCC from investigating the allegation against the governor and keeping vital information for his trial after his tenure.

“The APC wishes to call on Wike to clear the air about this obviously damaging revelation which has painted the image of his office and that of the state in opprobrious light.
“It is the conviction of the APC that the governor owes it as a duty to Rivers people to confirm or deny with facts and figures the accusation,’’ the statement said.

The APC alleged that it observed the sneaky happenings at the 2015 general elections in Rivers and the nation but would like to keep its conclusions about what happened to itself.

“But we urge Wike to tell Rivers people and Nigerians his role in the confessions made against him by the state secretary of his own party, the PDP,’’ the statement stated.

Gunmen at the early hours of Friday, stormed the home of Mr. Denen Igbana, the Senior Special Assistant, SSA, to Benue State Governor on Security, and shot him dead in the presence of his family.
This was just as an Army Corporal attached to the Benue State Joint Security Patrol team code named ‘Operation Zenda’, allegedly shot a year two female student of Primary Education Studies at the College of Education in Oju local government area
of the state.
Saturday Vanguard learned that Igbana,
a retired Police officer, was killed by a
gang who waylaid him in front of his house along Naka road, in the outskirts
of Makurdi town.
Narrating the incident to Governor Samuel Ortom who paid a sympathy
visit to the family of the deceased, an eyewitness and Tax Collector in the
area, Thomas Ayakpam said the assailants struck at about 1:32am
He explained that the SSA had come home only to run into the assailants who were armed with sophisticated weapons.
“They opened fire on his vehicle (a Toyota Hilux) perforating the car on all sides.
“ Igbana ran out of the car, shouting and heading towards my own house but they shot him on his leg. He fell. At that point one of the gunmen came closer to him and he started shouting, ‘Gana so you can kill me, you want to kill me, what did I do to you?”. He was then shot severally and the people fled.”
In his response, Governor Ortom who could not hold back tears said the deceased was one of his trusted aides who played a vital role in ensuring the success of the administration’s amnesty programme. The Governor who charged security operatives to apprehend the masterminds of the killing said, “they have killed part of me but I’m still alive and I will ensure that anyone responsible for this dastardly killing would be made to face justice.”
Meantime, Saturday Vanguard gathered from an eyewitness that the female student of College of Education in Oju was shot while sitting in front of her residence at Lawani hostels, situated outside the school campus.
According to the source, “the problem started when one student of the institution was alleged to have a long standing problem with a female student and supposed girl friend of a soldier.
“For that reason, the soldier, Thursday afternoon stormed the institution to whisk Anthony to the ‘Operation Zenda’ base in Oju, but fellow students resisted the move. He was asked to get an approval from the institution’s management before taking the student away.
“At that point the angry soldier went away, promising to come back. That evening the soldier went back to the institution with some of his colleagues to abduct the said Anthony but were resisted by students in the institution who also aided Anthony to escape.
“Vexed by the action of the students the soldier opened fire with his riffle and the innocent girl who was sitting by the door of her room got hit at the side of her chest.
“She was rushed to Adoga hospital in Oju where she was given two pints of blood because she had lost so much blood and thereafter rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, for further treatment because the bullet could not be extracted and her condition was deteriorating.
“As I speak with you we cannot ascertain the condition of the student but the Army Corporal has been arrested by the Police in Oju and transferred to the Command Headquarters in Makurdi.”
Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Moses Yamu failed but a top Police source who craved anonymity confirmed that the matter was being investigated while the Army Corporal was being interrogated.

Politics / FG To Provide 1bn Eggs For School Feeding Programme by nelch05(m): 8:13am On May 20, 2016
THE federal government has said its decision to partially deregulate the downstream sector of the petroleum sector would enhance its school feeding programme.
Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, stated this yesterday, when a federal government delegation, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,David Babachir Lawal, met with members of the National Working Committee and State Executive Committees of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja.
At the meeting called to discuss the issues thrown up by deregulation, Mohammed listed several impacts the policy would have on Nigerians.
He said, “The first is the employment of 500,000 unemployed graduates, the second is the employment of 100,000 non graduates, technicians and artisans. The third is the one meal a day programme targeting 5.5 million pupils all over Nigeria. This is the most exciting of all our programmes. Even if we are going to give these children one egg a day, it means we will need 5.5 million eggs and in a calendar year of 200 days, we will need over a billion eggs. You can imagine what this will do to agriculture.
“We have the enterprise scheme which is a system of revolving loan. We are targeting one million market women and men, 460,000 artisans and technicians and 200,000 agricultural workers to be given loans through their cooperatives to start their own businesses. We have the N5,000 conditional cash transfers to one million most vulnerable Nigerians as a first phase. Then finally, we have bursaries, scholarships for all students in Nigeria studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”
National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie- Oyegun, said such meetings would be convened on a regular basis so party members would understand government’s policy. He said:
“What this does is to arm everyone of us from the national and state levels so that we can speak with confidence, in addition to whatever passion we can muster about what is going on at the national level and go away with the conviction that things are not just happening capriciously with the conviction that we promised change. Change is a process, it is not an event, not something that happens the day after the government was sworn-in.”

Politics / Nigeria Is Ready For Nuclear Energy- Fashola by nelch05(m): 5:19pm On May 19, 2016
The Federal Government on Wednesday, said Nigeria was ready to commence the production of nuclear energy.
The Minster of Power, Works and Housing, Mr
Babatunde Fashola, who made this known at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja, said Nigeria had secured the necessary certification from the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA).
Fashola said: "`This thing has protocols and standards; we are already in it; we are not venturing into it; we started a nuclear programme 17 years ago.
``We have gone through the training level; we have produced 25 graduates of master’s level under certification by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
``We have found the sites; the sites have been approved, two sites have been approved by International Atomic Energy Agency.
``We have started the design for the financing; that is the stage we are now; once we conclude that, we move to the design for the construction.
``If all things go well, by quarter four of next year - that is the schedule that I met - we should have started construction, so that is what I meet.``
Fashola said it was important for Nigeria to focus on the gains and safety of nuclear energy as obtained in other developed countries.
He said that since the whole world was moving toward a cleaner fuel and the use of more sustainable form of energy, Nigeria could be an exception.
He, however, said that the developed countries could only share the technology with countries ready keep to the standards in the utilisation of the technology.
The minister further said that diversifying the nation’s energy mix would lead to the utilisation of the various forms of renewable energy sources in the country.
This, according to him, will ultimately make electricity cheap in the country.

Politics / More Than 17, 500 Workers To Be Engaged As Road Construction Begins by nelch05(m): 5:20pm On May 18, 2016
The Federal Government says more than 17,500 road construction workers are to be re-engaged as contractors return to project sites across the country.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, made this known when he featured on the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said that the contractors had declared their readiness to re-engage workers, who were laid off due to the huge debt owed by the Federal Government in the past three years.
“We are trying to ensure that everybody (contractors and workers) go back
as quickly as possible to have the most effective impact.
“Just by speaking to 20 of our road contractors yesterday on the number of
people they have laid off who they can move back to work.
“The return that I got was over 17,500 people that they would re-engage.
“So, that is the first step. We have over 200 road projects, so, that is just 20 contractors and we are going to be meeting with more.
Now, that’s change. People who lost their work are coming back to work.
That’s what this budget brings.
“Capital expenditure for the ministry is about N353 (billion). That’s a lot different from what we had in 2015.’’
Fashola criticised the failure of the previous governments to settle debts owed contractors, a situation, which he said, had created enormous challenges even in the face of dwindling oil revenue.
He, however, stressed that the government would not allow current challenges to distract it from doing its best possible to improve the well-being of the people.
“If contractors have not been paid for three years when oil was selling for a lot more, the budget is bigger now but the responsibility is just enormous because the oil resources have reduced.
“So, this is what we should have done three years ago when we had income at close to 100 dollars per barrel.
We are going to run as hard as we can. And everything little thing that we do, we hope would improve the quality of peoples’ lives.
According to him, the biggest impact of the budget so far is the restoration of jobs, beginning with the construction sector.
“Taking one simple step means that we can take about 17,500 and more people to work. That’s more important to me than how much debt was owed.

Politics / PMS Price Hike: Buhari Is Handicapped – Osinbajo by nelch05(m): 8:58pm On May 17, 2016
ABUJA - President Mohammadu Buhari is handicapped over the increase in the price of premium motor spirit, PMS, Vice President, Yemi Osinabjo has said.
Seemingly rising in defence of the president amid the backlash of angry feelings among many Nigerians caused by the all-time drastic increase, Osinabjo said that though the president was opposed to the new price initially, he had no choice than to accept the change.
According to him, the decision was necessary if the country must source for foreign exchange to import fuel.
In any case, the Vice President said that even if the local refineries were resuscitated, the country would still need to import product as they would only run at 40 percent capacity.
Osinbajo spoke Tuesday in Abuja at the public presentation of a book titled "Anatomy of Corruption in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges & Solutions, a collection of essays", edited by a renowned lawyer and Senior. Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Yusuf Ali.
This is not the first time, the office of the Vice President would be exonerating the president from the hike.

Politics / British PM, Cameron Makes U-turn, Praises Nigeria’s Fight Against Corruption by nelch05(m): 8:10am On May 12, 2016
wednesday attempted to reverse his unguarded remark about Nigeria and Afghanistan, two. countries which on Tuesday, he, described as “fantastically corrupt”, when he was briefing Queen Elizabeth II on the ongoing anti-corruption summit being hosted by the United Kingdom.
While briefing Members of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons wednesday, the British PM said Nigeria and Afghanistan had taken “remarkable steps forward” on corruption, reported the BBC.
The PM said the countries’ leaders were “battling hard” to tackle the problem.
His attempt at a mea culpa came after Buhari, who arrived London on Tuesday evening for the summit, said Cameron’s gaffe was not reflective of his administration’s. fight against corruption.
However, when asked yesterday by journalists at the pre-anti-corruption conference in London if Nigeria was
“fantastically corrupt”, Buhari candidly replied, “Yes”,adding that corruption in Nigeria was endemic, but his government was committed to fighting it.
He went on to state that he was not going to demand an apology from Britain or Cameron, making it abundantly clear that he was more interested in the return of Nigeria’s assets held in British banks.
“I am not going to be demanding any apology from anybody. What I will be demanding is the return of assets.
I have already mentioned how Britain led and how disgraceful one of Nigeria’s executives (former Bayelsa Governor, the late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha) was. He had to dress like a woman to leave Britain and left behind his bank account and fixed assets which Britain is not prepared to hand over to us.
“This is what I am asking for. What will I do with an apology? I need something tangible,” he said.
Also in an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour
wednesday, Buhari refused to be defensive over Cameron’s statement, saying: “Well he said what he knows about both countries. He did not say what he said to the press, it was a private conversation.”
In its reaction, the Afghan embassy in London said tackling corruption was one of President Ashraf Ghani’s top priorities and “bold” action had been taken.
“We have made important progress in fighting systematic corruption in major national procurement contracts and are making progress on addressing institutional issues as well as issues related to impunity… therefore calling Afghanistan in that way is unfair,” the embassy said.
According to the BBC, Cameron was asked about his comments on Nigeria and Afghanistan during Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons, where he jokingly checked if his microphone was working, refering to “tips on diplomacy” and said he had made “many unforced errors” in the past 24 hours.
Answering a question from Tory backbencher Philip Davies, who asked why UK aid was being given to countries that the PM sees as corrupt, in his reply, Cameron praised the action taken by Afghanistan and Nigeria and warned that cutting off aid could “come back to haunt us here”.
He also defended the action by his own government, including initiatives on overseas tax havens and measures to make sure “plundered money from African countries can’t be hidden in London”.
In the footage showing Cameron’s comments on Tuesday, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby intervened to say: “But this particular president is not corrupt… he’s trying very hard,” before Speaker John Bercow said: “They are coming at their own expense, one assumes?”
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said the PM had been “merely stating a fact” in his comments, and ex-London mayor Boris Johnson said people would “find it refreshing he was speaking his mind”.
Downing Street said the presidents of Nigeria and Afghanistan had “acknowledged the scale of the corruption challenge they face in their countries”
But Labour MPs said a Tory government “hosting an anti-corruption summit was like putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop”.
“The government is refusing to take meaningful action to close Britain’s constellation of tax havens, which together constitute the largest financial secrecy network in the world,” said Shadow International Development Secretary Diane Abbott.
