Ordering foreign DNA testing is quite unusual but not unlawful under Nigerian law. Nigerian courts have broad discretion over evidence, especially in sensitive inheritance or paternity disputes involving a deceased person, and courts typically rely on local, accredited forensic and medical laboratories, particularly in Lagos and Abuja. In a few cases I have referred to the list of DNA centers below, relying more on the DNA Testing and Forensic Centre at 48 Broad Street - which by the way is run by LASG. There is no established precedent making foreign DNA testing a standard requirement. Asking for foreign labs may be viewed as excessive, costly, and potentially prejudicial, unless the court is persuaded that local facilities cannot meet evidentiary or chain of custody standards. Which I disagree with. Nigerian appellate decisions emphasize practicality, proportionality, and access to justice. In the Davido paternity matter, DNA testing was handled using Nigerian laboratories, and Nigerian courts generally rely on local accredited facilities for such disputes. There is no well known Nigerian legal precedent that makes foreign DNA testing a standard requirement in domestic paternity cases., is Mohbad's estate worth more than Davido's? Is there something else going on here? Phillip N., (BA Legal Studies, JD Law) - my words are my opinions, not legal advice.

This matter needs calm legal clarity. First, the law: Under the Trade Disputes Act, workers are not allowed to continue a strike once a dispute has been properly referred to the National Industrial Court. That restriction is contained in Section 18(1)(f) of the Act, page 11. On that narrow point, the court has legal backing. However, the same Act binds the government and the minister: Before a dispute can lawfully reach the court in a way that stops a strike, the law requires mediation, formal reporting, and statutory notices. These steps are in Sections 4, 6, and 7 of the Trade Disputes Act, pages 4 to 5. If these steps were skipped or rushed, then using Section 18 becomes legally weak. Also, the Act does not support mass jailing as a first response: Even where strikes are restricted, imprisonment requires prosecution, proof of individual guilt, and proportionality. Contempt proceedings are meant to enforce compliance, not to criminalise unpaid workers as a group. Not all FCT workers are “essential service” workers: The First Schedule of the Act lists essential services narrowly, such as power, water, hospitals, transport, and sanitation. Public service alone does not automatically qualify. Many Nigerians are reacting because this fits a pattern: As Rivers State governor, Wike repeatedly banned protests and responded aggressively to labour and civil actions, including pensioners, workers, and End SARS protesters, rather than prioritising dialogue. This history explains why many see this move as intimidation rather than governance. Examples include: Wike warning and threatening organisers of RevolutionNow protests in Rivers State in 2019 - Premium Times, August 5, 2019, https://www.premiumtimesng.com/regional/south-south/345188-revolutionnow-wike-warns-organisers-of-planned-protest-in-rivers.html Wike announcing a ban on protests and processions in Rivers State in 2019 - PM News, March 29, 2019, https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/03/29/wike-bans-protests-processions-in-rivers/ Wike banning End SARS protests in Rivers State in 2020 - Vanguard, October 14, 2020, https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/10/endsars-wike-bans-protest-in-rivers In summary, yes, courts must be obeyed. But the rule of law also requires government to follow due process, negotiate in good faith, and avoid turning labour disputes over unpaid entitlements into threats of prison. Restraint is allowed. Bullying is not. Phillip N., (BA Legal Studies, JD Law) - my words are my opinions, not legal advice.

A new socio-political group called We the People of Nigeria has sprung up, spearheaded by Dr. Lloyd F. Ukwu (an activist and human rights lawyers) and Ms. Annkio Briggs (well-known Nigerian South-South environmentalist activist). They have been on an international sensitization tour, going to different places like Washington DC, UN in New York, and Westminster in London, just today, to spread the word as how we as Nigerians feel, and our desire for free, fair and violence-free elections, in which Nigerians can choose with fear or favour who will be President. Tomorrow, February 12, is the last stop, in Brussels. For more info: Organization: We the People of Nigeria Twitter: @wtpofnigeria Website: www.wtpon.org Hash Tag: #wethepeopleofnigeria

Calm down and use your head. Say you were making 50k per month at the previous job. With 3 times increase, it means you are now due 150k per month. With the deductions you alluded to of ca. 40%, you are at 90k. That is still nearly double of the previous job. #Read the 40 Rules of Power. Go see HR, tell the person that you would like a printout of your December wages and deductions. Then study it carefully and also review your contract. If you want further advice, blank out your name and the company name, address, blank out any other identifying information and post it here, let's see what exactly they are doing. Let's look to change our MILT outlook on life, but lets also work from a point of knowledge and level headedness... |

bigkahuna704:Not English, it's a Russian Tokarev, or one of the many clones from China, Yugoslavia or Bulgaria. This is a common pistol used by the Nigerian Police, odd that a civilian has it eh? Here are pictures of the original Russian variant, then Chinese close and the Yugoslav one, I think this is the Chinese one, but its also made in Turkey, from whom we buy lots of arms.

Ladies and gentlemen, we should not be naive. Here are the qualities of a good politician: Promising politicians qualities are often backed by skills, experiences, intelligence, integrity, with instincts -all combined together to achieve their goals. First and foremost, the best quality of a politician is honesty, God fearing and loving. A faithful and effective politician is trustworthy and reliable. Do we have such in Nigeria? I doubt it. Now here is the definition of a corrupt politician: Political corruption is the use of powers by government officials for illegitimate private gain. An illegal act by an officeholder constitutes political corruption only if the act is directly related to their official duties, is done under color of law or involves trading in influence. Forms of corruption vary, but include bribery, extortion, cronyism, nepotism, parochialism, patronage, influence peddling, graft, and embezzlement. Misuse of government power for other purposes, such as repression of political opponents and general police brutality, is also considered political corruption. My humble point is that: In Nigeria of today, regardless whoever is in power, we will continue to have corrupt politicians, because truly and truthfully I have uncles, brothers and cousins on both sides of the current equation, and I do not know a single one that is honest or truly God fearing. Wike or Magnus, PDP, APC or the new one they are forming called ADP... it will be the same, at least till some new generation gets in there, and looking at how they train the young politicians in ballot snatching, thuggery and all those other acts, how for sure are we dat improvment will ever come? barika2011: |
Agreed, but we should realise dat de exercise done at govt house was to biometricly verify the staff, and was a technical one, ICT does not have enough knowledge or authority to check teacher credentials and certificates, the cross checking of correct educational qualifications should be done following NCE standard, by education ministry and the boards themselves... that is my understanding... |
emekatex:From my source -- Nothing like that as far as ICT Dept is concerned, it may be the teachers qualifications or some other check, but it canot be biometric, as that has been done. ICT Department is currenly doing LGA workers, and they cannot finish before jan/feb next year.. also the ICT adviser is not aware of any such... my source who works there asked with style.. |
As I said earlier, I would find out from my source, here is the info PHALGA, OBIO/AKPOR. ONELGA and OMUMA Boards have been given thee new cards, the Boardss are supposed to exchange and bring the old cards back to ICT dept.., however the Boards have not returned the old, as required, so apparently ICT department is trying to get the Boards to do there side (hand over the old cards), as ICT continues the printing of the cards, but the issue here is the Boards are not living up to there promise of collecting the old cards and bringing them back..... so these 4 LGAs are holding back ID card distribution for who knows what reason, and since the cards are being printed, ICT feels eventually the Boards will sit up.. and the exchanges can continue. Meanwhile ICT have started Local Govt biometric, and have done 4 LGA;s already so their hands are full again.... this is what my contact who works in ICT told me dencydenky: |
will check my sauce in ICT Dept on Monday, here is the card that ICT Dept is issuing, I know from previous there was problems with electricity blowing the printers, which they have resolved. I think Phalga, Obio Akpor have gotten, because in the call lists they were the first LGA's. The cards are being sent to UBE and SSSB Boards for distribution, my sauce is good, by Monday I should find out more from him.... tekxx:
|
from what we know, the cards are going out in batches, in the order in which the LGAs came for biometric... |
As human being we do show out preference to pray and not follow up with any action. Look at an online anonymous petition started 3 days ago, which if we get common 100 signers, the website will blast it on social media to support us, till now only 5 people have signed, we are doomed, what is the use complaining of NUT and NLC inaction, when we have the time to play on our phones but to comment on a simple anonymous petition, we can not, i dey fear our laziness... anyways lets keep praying and praying, dont worry God will come down from heaven and pay us in dollars... https://www.change.org/p/governor-nyesom-ezenwo-wike-gov-wike-please-pay-teacher-s-six-months-salary-arrears |
Waiting for God is a poor excuse for laziness, God helps those who help themselves, we have started an online petition, since NUT and no body else will talk or appeal for us, let us do it ourselves, and bring this disaster into the public eye. We are tired of dodging people we owe, working without pay and being treated like slaves, enough is enough, sign the petition, spread word about it, we cannot let Christmas be painful, because the way things are going we will never be paid. Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike: Gov. Wike Please Pay Teacher's Six Months Salary Arrears Hello, We just started the petition "Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike: Gov. Wike Please Pay Teacher's Six Months Salary Arrears" and want to see if you could help us by signing the online petition. We also need you to post this petition on twitter, social media, nairaland, news paper sites, email and text your friends, Linda Ikeji, in fact anywhere we can get exposure. Our goal is to reach 10,000 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here: https://www.change.org/p/governor-nyesom-ezenwo-wike-gov-wike-please-pay-teacher-s-six-months-salary-arrears? Thanks! Rivers Teachers

the 30 tasan teashers from UBE and SSB make up about 3bn a month in salary... so u know wher de sarari av been goin? read dis very well.... 90bn spent in 17 months on roads to nowhere... about more than 5bn a month... ndimadu ooo!!! ‘Rivers expends N90bn on roads in 17 months’ By NAN | 26 October 2016 | 10:59 am The Rivers Government has spent over N90 billion on the construction of critical roads in the last 17 months, Governor Nyesom Wike has said. Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, the Special Assistant to Wike on Electronic Media, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the governor made the disclosure while declaring open the West Africa Architects Fair (WAAF 2016) in Port Harcourt. The governor also said that the infrastructure development programme of his administration had been insulated from political consideration for the attainment of positive results. “We have spent over N90 billion on construction, rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, bridges and jetties. “This money has effectively delivered over 80 roads while work is ongoing on the construction of about 35 new roads, spread across the three senatorial districts of the state. ”Most importantly, in order to derive maximum value for money spent, we have insulated our infrastructure development and delivery master plan from political considerations by ensuring that the designing, construction and supervision of all our roads are handled by reputable professionals and construction companies.” According to Wike, his administration has overcome the initial challenges of empty treasury, unpaid salaries, insecurity caused by closed courts and a weak economy. ”When we assumed office, we met a state that was at the lowest rung in all indices of development. “Besides an empty treasury, we inherited months of unpaid salaries to civil servants and a totally broken infrastructure. “The poor security situation was exacerbated by the prolonged closure of the courts for over 12 months, leading to unprecedented capital flight and disinvestments. ”However, 17 months after, we have recorded remarkable achievements in several areas of development.” He said that his administration’s priority was to clear the backlog of salaries, fix broken roads and transport infrastructure and create jobs by reflating the economy. “In all these, we have successfully delivered. ”For instance, apart from clearing the arrears of salaries, we are among the very few states with proven capacity to meet our financial obligations to civil servants, contractors and vendors.” The governor lauded Nigerian Architects for their contributions to the development of the country. He recalled that since his days as council chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area up to becoming the o Minister of State for Education and now governor, he had been collaborating with architects to deliver quality projects. In his remarks, the President, Nigeria Institute of Architects, Mr Tonye Braide, said that members were working towards developing new cities that would help grow the economies of different countries. NAN reports that WAAF 2016 is a gathering of architects and allied professionals from across the West Africa sub-region. |
I used to be quite positive, but what I heard today is shocking... this is a concerted plan, to furstrate people out of job, they never kept the money aside to be able to catch up with arrears, something the had pledged to do when the wage bill was 7billion plus, with the biometric they reduce it to 5bn,,, and the money that they have been holding since, they spent it on other things, like fake 5bn electicity light contract to Peedeepee shaman Obuah, and all the bribes they have been paying and supporting other states in elections, our salaries have been fully spent by the vampires, and they all know they are sucking our blood, yes the biometrics was done really, but it was just another lousy excuse to hold on to the cash, now they are claining they dont know who has not been paid, asking board staff to collect lists, knowing that it will take weeks, and more errors will be introduced, and then months down the line they will announce teacher certificate evaluation, and bring in a company from Lagos to start verifying credentials, all of this is delay, they just dont want to pay, and even if they want to, they have raided the treasury and kobo no dey inside dia... we need to protest, btw NUT is in their pocket and so is judiciary.... either we forget our months of pay, or we have to protest... |
masterchi:eh what i mean is that once you know your batch and number, then you are sure you will be paid (eventually, sorry my bro), or you can then follow up with min of finance... what I heard is that in the next few weeks, wike is trying to pay as much of the back log as possible, but you know how these politicians are, say 1 thing, and do anoda... ndimadu ooo |
masterchi:email rvsg.ict@gmail.com, the biometric people can tell you what batch/number you are, i hope u did the biometric? |
sauce at ICT tells me ICT people, are now halfway competed doing biometric for pensioners, submitted the final list (batch weeks ago (2 or 3 weeks now), Wike approved and it went to Ministry of Finance... ICT is no longer the issue, its with Ministry of Finance, so my sauce has no more useful info since it is now passed them....
