WebmastersRe: I Redesigned My Site! Wacha Think? by Neptune(op): 7:35pm On Mar 16, 2009
thanks webmonk. the whole filp thing is kinda part of the whole creative look. but since the pages load differently i could add another nav bar, somewhere.

@ yawa-ti-de

thing is, the innitial plan was to have everything on a page. like it's normally done (which i do). let me just answer you question. there are mostly different flash movies on a page. and yes, its more efficient to have everything into one movie. but taking into consideration th people who view the site (or most of them), with dail ups and what have you. i think its more efficient to have different movies on different pages (in that case). rather than a percentage preloader that takes forever to get to 100. the good thing about it is you get to see somthing. lol.
i totally get you though. maybe i'll just have one for high bandwith and one for low bandwith.
WebmastersRe: I Redesigned My Site! Wacha Think? by Neptune(op): 4:41pm On Mar 16, 2009
yeah, i thought of that. thing is if i put it all in one flash file it might take much longer to load

ominipotens, the site is very accessible. have u tired opening it?

WebmastersRe: What Makes A Good Web Developer? by Neptune(op): 4:50pm On Mar 06, 2009
hmmm, well said.

taking your jamb senerio for example i want to believe thats a totally different case. why? i was part of a project late last year for a software company here. they wanted something far more complex than what the jamb site does. before the interview, the guy that was suppose to head the project came and was like hope you guys know this thing'll take about 6months? i was like no? why? he said the work itself would take 2months and the other 4months would be for testing. even though we had to test the whole thing and demo it to the board at the end of the second month. my point? its jamb's fault their website doesnt function properly not the developers fault. funny thing is they (the developers) might have done testing and quality control after development. but jamb its self should have sudgested realtime testing where people do whatever they do and they checked for errors and son on

the others, i also agree with.
WebmastersRe: What Makes A Good Web Developer? by Neptune(op): 2:27pm On Mar 06, 2009
well, so we dont get confused, a webdevloper is a 'well equiped' web designer. to further explain/'job description':

Web designers are responsible for the layout, visual appearance and usability of a website. This role may overlap with that of a programmer but shuldnt be confused. Using a combination of graphic design skills and technical knowledge of how web pages are created, the work involves:

liaising closely with a customer or client at the design stage and finding the answers to questions about why the site is needed, who the target audience will be, who the leading competitors are, etc;
producing a design that will be attractive to the target user, has a logical navigation system and has all the features required;
writing web pages in a combination of codes, such as HTML and XHTML, CSS, Javascript, Actionscript, ColdFusion, .Net, Flash, or using code-generating programs, such as Dreamweaver and Visual Studio;
deciding on how images and other material will be digitally optimised and presented for the web;
ensuring that material on the web site is accessible to all groups including those with disabilities;
testing the site for functionality in different browsers and at different resolutions;
fixing errors.
Web designers will have knowledge of graphic design packages such as Fireworks or Photoshop in order to produce basic layout and manipulate images. Skills in e-commerce and server side technologies, such as PHP and .Net, and internet security are also important.

is anyone confused?
WebmastersRe: What Makes A Good Web Developer? by Neptune(op): 1:26pm On Mar 06, 2009
yeah, but dont "their thought process" show in their work? i mean, i stumble on a site? see his/her demo online, look well organized, works well etc. and new web dev trends? please. what have they done with the old ones. something i have noticed about programmers is the way they approach their work really matters.
I mean, I can have 1,000 comments but use 1,000 embedded tables on each of those clients websites. Does that make me a good web developer?
if it works? i think so. alot of people still use old methods to tackle new problems and it works fine. i'll like to think that a good web developer is the one that gets the job done. not necessarilly through new methods/trends. for example people are so in love with dreamweaver for designing websites, but there are some that use frontpage, microsoft web designer e.t.c and still get the job done. sometimes even better that those who use dreamweaver.

The other stuff you have mentioned, IMHO, are by-products of being a good web developer.
did you mean portfolio & clients? then u must be kiddin. i should show u some web developers sites and their clients. lol

WebmastersWhat Makes A Good Web Developer? by Neptune(op): 11:32am On Mar 06, 2009
lets say i've been in nairaland for a year. if i was going to make a write up about the web designers/devlopers/masters/whatever other words. i'll have to say since that time (last year) to now. there has been just a little change. it just like reviewing the same old sites and correcting the same old mistakes. growth has been like 7% (for web developers). back to the main issue. what makes a good web developer? portfolio? clients? how could u tell?
WebmastersRe: How To Make Pics Uncopyable by Neptune(m): 11:14am On Mar 06, 2009
yeaah, that's it! cheesy but then u can still print screen huh. this is one hard puzzle to solve.

WebmastersRe: Pls Help Review Site Http://www.faithacademyportal.com by Neptune(m): 1:47pm On Mar 05, 2009
you programmers should try getting web designers for things like this men. for me, there's nothing to review. oh, it's a portal! (so? undecided)
WebmastersRe: How To Make Pics Uncopyable by Neptune(m): 10:52am On Mar 05, 2009
one way is to disable righ clicking on your entire site. (depending on what the site is about, it might be an issue)

to do this add this script to the body of ur page

<!--
var message="";
///////////////////////////////////
function clickIE() {if (document.all) {(message);return false;}}
function clickNS(e) {if
(document.layers||(document.getElementById&&!document.all)) {
if (e.which==2||e.which==3) {(message);return false;}}}
if (document.layers)
{document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);document.onmousedown=clickNS;}
else{document.onmouseup=clickNS;document.oncontextmenu=clickIE;}

document.oncontextmenu=new Function("return false"wink
// -->
</script>

thats just one way. and of course people that know 'their ways' (like me grin) can still copy. anyways it works and it'll help.

if i might add i viewed the site on internet explorer. there was no problem with css or anything. it loaded smoothly (with in 2mins).

ebot tabi WTF are you talking about. if you agree, lets start a poll asking people to choose their favourite between urs and his. you might end up deleting your site. your site looks like a boring blog(looks like one of those wordpress template) dont take that harshly. its true. ok thats all (b4 i over do it. lol).
WebmastersRe: Pls Check My Website Out by Neptune(m): 8:23pm On Mar 03, 2009
kaspa, i am web designer not a programmer. others should forgive me if i don't see everything from their point of view. by the way ur site is nice. colour combination is very cool. the size of the font is just right. for the "To download any of my Portfolio - right click one of the topics and "save target as"." either make the whole text bold or make the word download red and bold to draw attention to it. for your level, you have done a good and comendable job. i\m not saying any of this to make you feel happy, it's the truth. i understand the fact that its easier for you to check ur yahoo mail plus that's where the whole bunch of emails you get is, thats why u prefer it as your default email so where you have 'Site designed and maintained by Ukaegbu I. Justin for JBOXX CREATIONZ' move it to the right and on the left add your contact details again this time inculde your "info@jboxcreations.com" or "services@jboxcreations.com" if you dont have one, create it. it doesnt take time and forward all the mails ur get their to your yahoo mail address. good work, i am impressed. also, where you have the brown paper on the far right(next to the logo) you could move your email and phone number there instead of leaving it empty.

Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by Neptune(m): 4:27pm On Feb 26, 2009
soji, you really need to explain this 'attitude' you are talking about. it gettin a little confusing here. is it the way in which people approach jobs and interact with other people. then i'll have to say it goes a long way. there are various factors that determine attitdue. but i'll still like you to enlighten me on this 'attitude'. give me an example or something.

nice one annekix. sorry for the wahala ehn. but the thing is people have seen what you can do and you'll soon chop the fruit of ur labour. keep up the good work. same to everyone else.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by Neptune(m): 9:39pm On Feb 25, 2009
that's one big fat question. i think we need real big fat design schools here . lol. you know, like the full sails and expression colleges. so when u graduate from there and after spending so much money plus there's no where else to go, u'll buckle up. plus you dont need to go through the protege process smiley
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by Neptune(m): 8:20pm On Feb 25, 2009
my point when i say 'narrow minded' is that there's a bigger picture. alot of these upcomming people have been taken advantage of. you know now. i dont need to start counting clients that i've worked for and they'll pay half and cook up some sh*tty excuse or those that wouldnt even pay. these factors count in greater ways than you think. this is why some upcomming people have this carefree attitude sometimes (and to be honest i 'was' one of them.lol.) there were times when i go do i want to make a career out of this cos of the way i've been treated.[e.g] when Oga collects the millions for the work i/we did, he travells out of the country and pays me last months salary later this month. not one not twice. or when that company kept saying come back next week oga is not arround, or he's in a meeting we'll call you back and they are using my work. how much can one take. there are a lot of reasons you might say the industry is dying but its not totally the fault of the upcomming guy. i wont agree to that. now count all these factors and more, how do i want to send people to training, how do i want to pay my rent e.t.c. dont forget that not all upcomming guys setup a million naira company, some come in struggling.
  On the other hand,those that come in with the huge bucks mostly are the business men 'ah, we here say money dey IT oh, make we chop small' these are mostly the ones that come in sky high and later fall hell low.
at the same time there are those who are chopping silently (i dont know them oh. but they are there)
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by Neptune(m): 5:49pm On Feb 25, 2009
hey wilsonhaze long time oh. lol.

soji, i understand u o. but i think u are seeing this from a narrow point of view.
I remember when I just came into the industry, there was a lot of encouragement, seeing people of like minds trying to make their mark.
there are still people like that every where, lots of them. but the thing is where's the focus (like wilsonhaze said), where's the passion. when i was in NIIT, 70% of the class wanted the certiificate to get better jobs, 20% wanted to learn just for the sake of it and the remaining actually had a passion for what they were learning and wanted to make names for themselves from that field. but i'm telling you when you start making millions (say for a year) the only way you would still make that kind of money is if you put in more effort (not the same effort. MORE). putting the passion for the job aside. the focus is very important. i dont want to mention foreign names so it wouldnt enter (its the economy). the MD of superbrands (fanen) was my neighbour. i knew him long before he started superbrands. and i can tell you that guy is one focused SOB. plus he has a strong belief in what he does, though he's not a graphic artist or a web designer. now he commands companies like guiness's respect. that's that.

for
Now I ask the newcomers, "WHERE ARE YOUR PEERS? GOD FORBID BUT IF YOU FALL SICK TO DAY AND HAVE A JOB AT HAND, WILL THE FINISHED JOB EVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY?"
TRAIN AT LEAST ONE PERSON!!!!!!!!!
i'll come back to that.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Our Industry Is Dying And Needs A Boost! by Neptune(m): 1:24pm On Feb 25, 2009
bros, you have asked the question and u have answered it yourself. the only thing i dont seem to agree on is that "our industry is dying". i'll like to rephrase the statement if you don't mind as "our industry is growing". the point you made which i love so much was
TRAIN AT LEAST ONE PERSON!!!!!!
there was this job i got last year in the north. the owner of the company said he could not give me the job because i was'nt older than 40. i thought it was funny but he was damned serious. then i asked why. he said all these young boys of now adays calling themselves ceo's and md's are just 'selfish crooks'. and i think thats what's happening to those industries that start very well and later they fall, for reasons nobody seems to understand. these young 'ceo's/md's' noadays are not ready to train anybody oh.lol. when you start working for them they want the best which they usually get (that's when all is going well with the company). but they seem to forget that the industry is GROWING. new sofware come up, new ideas, new talent, new concepts, new strategies and a whole bunch on other new things. but no, they like the postion they are in. afterall they can comfortably pay the rent(s) and the workers plus get a new car. whatever happened to PASSION, FOCUS & BEING ON TOP? that's what is kill them. i wont say us. it's them it killing. there are a few companies that would spring up soon and they would be there for a long time. my advice to y'all be one of them.

its only normal for a good programmer and a good graphic/web designer to come together to form a company and deliver the best software and website ever. but nooo o. not here. the money no go reach. so after2years they break up and go back to square 1. thats whats killing them. hope to hear fom others too.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Design A Logo For My Company And I Will Pay 10,000 naira. by Neptune(m): 12:59pm On Feb 25, 2009
i thought this would go this way when i saw the first 2 post on this thread which was why my first reply was
WTF ?!lol
then people started posting logos. if u read the first two posts, it was very clear the poster had already told kemji to design him a logo (through email). when i saw that this this was gettin to two pages i wanted to ask when the whole thing would be over cos the poster did'nt seen to make up his mind on anything until i saw the complaints. if we talk now dem go talk say we too talk. it's simply unfair. people were posting stuffs here daily. one of u two should have said somthing. if some people did'nt speak up, im sure this thing would continue till december. the guys working on the logo's are no t10k hungry it's the positive comments that matter. the fact that they are appreciated. and now you have yanked the rug from under 'em. hope you are happy. and when other serious people come to ask for a logo and peolpe dont show interest una go complain.

totally agree. just do what u do men, but keep us in mind. thats the whole point (quarell or no quarell). funny thing is those "quarells" make this section tick. lol. though some unecessary atimes but like u said
You can always counter in a more mature way
so thanks.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Feature More Posts From Graphics Section On Nairaland's Featured Forum Links by Neptune(op): 12:55am On Feb 24, 2009
thanks seun that's the only thread going smoothly for now.
OmniPotens, lol. i understand, but i think if people from other sections participate more would be achieved quarrel or no quarrel. plus things can be seen from a different perspective which really helps graphic designers. if only graphic designers were to comment or criticise other graphic designers works, there'll definitly be issues because graphic artists have their own different style of work so some things that might appeal to normal people might really piss them off (lol). but if things are seen by "outsiders" every once in a while things will change.
Art, Graphics & VideoRe: Feature More Posts From Graphics Section On Nairaland's Featured Forum Links by Neptune(op): 7:30pm On Feb 23, 2009
